She looked at the massive quantity of cloth she had just purchased, it was highly unlikely that she would be able to carry it by herself. The merchants sort of looked at her and chuckled, waving their heads towards the skaldi. It took a moment for her to realize they were hinting that the skaldi could carry the goods for her. A slight sigh as more coin was to leave her purse. "I don't suppose I could get your skaldi to deliver these to the A&F warehouse, could I?"
Her coin purse wasn't necessarily light, but at the rate she was spending, it was going to be a long time before she was what one might call wealthy. Regardless, she paid her dues and watched as the skaldi began hauling her goods back into the nearby city.

He had realized the night before how dangerous it was to be a guard without any equipment. He had asked his acquaintance to let them know he would be returning on the following night. The hillsfar market did not offer any blades, and blades were his preference. After sleeping that day, he headed out into the evening hoping to run into the trade caravan his acquaintance had mentioned to him.
They were set up for the night near the city, most had stopped offering their wares by the time he arrived, luckily with all the traveling the caravan had done, they had picked up enough drokagr and knew enough about his kind to understand what he was looking for, and why he was looking for it so late. He picked up two blades, they weren't the best make, but they would do until he came across something better. Armor and a sash would also serve him well, they fitted him, he paid his gold and he was on his way back to hillsfar.

Roald slowly plodded into the circle of caravans and stalls that marked out the current place where Kable's trade caravan was based, luckily all he'd had to do was get on the highway leading away from Helkorth and within a few hours he'd caught sight of Kable's along the road. It had been fairly close today, he was lucky enough in that respect at least he would have disliked the idea of having to walk for more than a few hours, he would have done it but he wouldn't much have liked the idea.
He was wary of the idea of going to this market as a market always meant a chance of being discovered, anywhere meant a chance of being discovered, there was no way that he could ever be completely safe anyway, but upon looking at the market he realised he'd be as safe as he was going to be anywhere else. It wasn't particularly large and it was unlikely any SKC would use anything like this at all, so he dropped his fears and got on with the task at hand.
Upon entering the circle of stalls he didn't go directly towards the one that quite obviously sold the ingredients that he would have liked, he enjoyed looking around at other blacksmith's craftsmanship and seeing how his own fared up, it was almost a small game to him to look at something another has made and see if he could make it himself or make anything better. Usually he didn't see much of any decent calibre at markets, good gear was usually custom made, but still was worth a look at usually.
The first he visited was a store seemingly full of weapons, they weren't particularly well stocked having only three different weapons that you could buy from them, but what they did sell they had lots of stock for. In fact they sold four if he counted the two different types of bow, but bows weren't exactly his speciality. The blades seemed well enough made, eventhough he was fairly sure that he could make a much sharper dagger if he tried, he didn't exactly think of himself as anything approaching a master but the blade was quite crudely forged and almost any sort of armour or tough hide would easily block it. The shortsword was a similar case, and if he was honest the arrows actually looked as if they'd snap before they actually managed to convey much damage, but then again bows were not at all his area of expertise nor was anything made from wood.
He was similarly unimpressed at the stall selling armour, the leather armour they sold would be hard pressed to even turn aside a sharp stick and he feared he could cut the sash with the nail on his thumb, the goods here were not good at all. Luckily metal was metal, there was no craftsmanship involved in simply making metal bars, and even if the ingots were made badly he could always just reforge them himself into something better.
Randomly selecting seven iron ingots from the stacks he looked each over, apart from a few sratches they looked fine so he bought them, dropping the coins on the counter in front of the merchant and beginning the trek home, his hands full from the small ingots that he'd bought.

The Duke hadn't gone out to meet the caravan in a while, the last few supply runs being coordinated by letter. It was about time he got back out there and saw his friends. Also replenish some of his dwindling material stock, but the people were equally as important. Tyr rode up to the caravan, hitched his horse, then strolled around for some chatter. Mainly his friends. "Cera, a pleasure to see you again. You have such wonderful leather, sews easy and holds like iron." He'd be back here, he needed some of that stuff. "Baila, good to see you. Fine armor yet again. You do have quite the eye." He didn't know where Kaela would be in the caravan, she'd only come around his duchy to make the contract for the bow design. Brief polite conversation out of the way, Tyr set out to find Kable. It wasn't hard, the man had a tendency of being where you needed him to be. "Kable, my good man, it's wonderful to see the caravan again. I hope it's been doing well apart from that business in the southeast." The Duke extended an arm for a handshake, forearm clasp, whatever polite greeting Kable was used to or comfortable with. "I have a few business matters I would like to discuss with you. I know you deliver, but I find myself in need of a retrieval. Nothing dangerous of course, simply supplies from somewhere I lack the time to go. Specifically a stock of wood, and case of gems, from Fordeth." Well it wasn't entirely that he lacked the time, he just really didn't want to go there. Tyr wasn't a fan of the Kingdom's ruling government. "I would of course provide the coin for the materials, and suitable compensation for the effort. There's no rush for it however, and that leads me to the second matter." The indirect route didn't work before, time to not repeat a past mistake. "I wish to repay one of yours with a gift. Na'ka cleared some...men," there was a near poisonous emphasis on the word. Bandits and highwaymen were not men, they were wasted life. "Off of the roads in my duchy, and I appreciate the extra work. I lacked an idea of what to make though. The kind of weapon, how heavy, those types of things. I was a bit...awkward in asking during the last delivery, tried to keep it somewhat of a surprise you see, and it backfired. So instead I'm taking the direct route."Tyr pulled a folded letter from his belt and handed it to Kable. It opened freely, the wax and seal being imprinted on the inside. "I didn't see Na'ka or I would present this to her myself. This is a signed and sealed Commission Order, lacking the commission itself. Weapon, armor, anything, the only limit is the materials. As it is I can handle any metal up to steel, and any fabric. I lack hydrillium or I would offer it, and I would need to acquire anything outside the normal metals and fabrics. That's not a problem, all I need is the details and the time."Commission Order.docx (10.56 KB)

Oh it was the duke! He was coming to peruse the goods. And of course to talk to the merchants. Cera inclined her head of course. When he spoke to her. She knew that he meant it, compliments were very welcome. Though she wished she could expand the list of items she had to include a full set of supplies. Baila was quite happy as to gain the Duke's attentions, and wondered loudly and often just within his earshot if he had a family or children to those that were also part of the caravan.
"Good to see you too, my lord." Kable would take the young man's hand and shake it as was the occasional custom. At least with good acquaintances. "That business in the southeast was unpleasant. But we're all fine. It could have been worse though. Had the Karligers any sort of violent tendencies there would probably be fewer of us here today, if any, I'm afraid."
Kable appeared to be visibly shaken by the incident. He had never been held hostage before, and he was afraid for both his enterprise and his people. If he felt it would be safer, he'd disband the caravan. But many of the merchants that were a part of it depended on it for a living.
When Tyr began to propose business his ears perked up. Retrieval was easy. They were heading to Fordeth next anyway. Gems and lumber were easily acquired with enough coin. He was glad it was something that wasn't rarer, or harder. He did not like to use the contact he had recently gained from those smugglers. The ones that brave death and demand the coin for it.
"I can get you those. Just tell me what and how much of."
Then he began to tell a story about his very own Na'ka. She had done her part and cleared some filth from the roads. He was proud of her, and apparently the Duke was happy about that.
"Thanks for the praise about Na'ka. We all do our part to protect the roads and the caravan. Regular people use the roads, and the roads are the lifeblood of the cities and towns. If the roads are ever ruled by brigands then we're all in a dire way. I'll give this to her. I'm sure she could think of something she needs. Which... reminds me. Do you mind raising awareness of this problem and of the problem that occurred in the southeast at the next Council of Dukes? I don't mean to impose, sir, and if it is too much to ask then I understand. It hurts all of us though."

The ordeal with Karliger hadn't personally affected Tyr and yet it still bothered him. Seeing the effects of it on Kable only served to make that worse. With everything agreed on there was little to do but get down to the finer details of it all.
"If it's agreeable I'll leave the retrieval order with Cera as well. Perhaps such business might allow for a deal to be brokered. Your caravan allows for suppliers to have their goods peddled everywhere after all, and I'm sure she wouldn't mind the expanded inventory." There was a knowing wink at the end there. Tyr knew the advantage of being able to stock a better variety of things. Wood was needed everywhere for plenty of reasons, from construction to general firewood. Gems would be a harder sell, but you never knew.
"I do my best to keep the Mardok roads clear, but I appreciate the help. If ever you find the roads unsafe you have only to let me know. It will be fixed. Quickly." The hard look in his eye returned, all of this at once was setting his mind to a course of action. Guard shacks, armed patrols and the like. Perhaps an excursion to root out a bandit camp. Perfect live training for his army. Kable's last request snapped him back to reality. He couldn't send troops out to fix this one, the Kingdom would take just a little offense to his blatant marching of an army across open land.
"I've been inspired by the Tournament of Jewels in Sorath to hold my own festival of sorts. An open feast for the people, maybe a small tournament. A good number of people would turn up for such a thing, don't you think? You should be there, I'd be glad to host you in my manor." There was that knowing grin again. "And if there happened to be a rather important gathering of nobles, well, that'd be a fantastic place for some hobnobbing." He couldn't bring Kable into the meeting directly, but once he'd raised the issue himself who better to have around than the one who'd essentially been held prisoner for ransom?
"As you said, open roads are the lifeblood of a country. Well, nobility can be gained in several ways and I hear some brigands have very sharp swords."

So they did come this far North. It had taken half a day's wanderings once he'd left the city to find where the caravan had settled to sell their wares but once he did he was happy once again. Amongst travelling merchants and the like wsa quite possibly where he was safest, them wanting to keep clear of law enforcement themselves most likely meaning that there'd be none around, and it'd be even less likely for there to be someone who'd know or be able to find out his identity. If he could just pack up and live on a trade caravan he would, but how he'd make a living he didn't know, you could only make so much from a caravan and they already seemed to have an armourer so trying to get in himself would surely cause offence.
So instead he'd settle for some iron, well it wouldn't really be settle considering that's what he'd come here to get. On his way to the supplier he'd visited last time however he passed a stall that seemed to be selling armour, not amazing armour mind you but armour all the same, and as much as he loathed the idea some part of him knew that it could well be necessary for him to have some as well as maybe a weapon he could use. It was quite the internal struggle for him, his desire to remain a non combatant fighting with his desire to not end up in the same state as he'd only very recently been in struggling against each other before eventually his thoughts of self preservation won out. The armour that was being sold however was only hardened leather, and made by an unknown smith, if he was going to have armour he'd rather have armour that he made himself and could trust in, preferably made of something stronger than leather. What did catch his eye however was the leather sash also being sold, he hadn't worn a belt in years, but they were useful, and chances were he was never going to get his old one back, not that he was entirely sure he'd want to considering the memories it held. In comparison, the sash would do, so he deposited the Ritz and took the sash, tightening it around his waist to a comfortable degree before continuing on to the iron supplier.
Roald felt so much more at ease here than he did in the city, despite everything, in the city there was always that chance that he'd be found out no matter how miniscule, whereas out here the chances decreased to the point where he barely had to worry about them. He needed access to the city unfortunately for the supplies it had and the facilities, but he still disliked the idea of having to stay there for any extended period of time. This was all going through his head however as he stood next to the shop, with him staring off into the distance as he thought and surely looking like an idiot to it's owner.
Shaking himself out of his daydreams he looked around at the wares, there was the iron he needed. There was also some leather which he made a mental note of, he may well have to come back for that later as leather was useful for almost anything as far as he was concerned. Another thing caught his eye, a small vial with some liquid in, upon looking closer he almost had a panic attack. A healing potion, he'd chugged many a potion over the years, so many that he'd almost come to associate them with the bad deeds he'd done. Unfortunately now, he saw the merit in going to them once again, better to be prepared than dead, even if it meant putting aside the associated thoughts.
Now he was definitely glad for the pack, he couldn't have brought all of this back without it, although maybe he'd need to invest in the materials for a bigger one, he could only fit three ingots in this one. He couldn't even have the ingots delivered to him as he had no permanent address that they could be delivered to.

Fyrra And Merrake had returned to Sorath from the Wylmonts in the early morning. They passed into the heart of the city through where Kable's Trade Caravan had been camped out. There they purchased some weapons and armor to make up for their missing equipment.
The Kalimbra selected the two potions. Merrake picked out a piece of Hard Leather Armor, a Shortbow, small quiver, and fifty wooden arrows for herself. Then she picked out a Dagger for Fyrra.
Fyrra only accepted if Merrake would take the axe back, which the bodyguard agreed to.

Tyr rode his horse up to the caravan and dismounted several dozen yards away, leading his mount the remainder of the way in. No need to show up on a high horse like he was above these people, they were his friends and he would treat them as such. After hitching the steed he made his usual rounds to the various shop keepers for some polite conversation and left two orders with Cera, one for delivery and one for retrieval. He'd cleared it with the boss during his last trip, this time he actually had a set list in mind. Along with the list came a cheque for the full amount plus a hefty tip. Something to help the caravan get back on track after their hold-up.
After delivery he went out in search of Kable himself. When the caravan leader was found Tyr would patiently wait outside of earshot for any immediate business to be concluded then approach, smile wide on his face and hand out for a hearty handshake. "Kable my good man, how are things here?" He'd wait for the answer then continue. "My three-fold business today is again of an interesting nature. I've left my delivery and retrieval orders with Cera, but I have a side request to make of Na'ka. When the goods are delivered I would like to ask her to detour slightly within my lands. There's an old Saurian she pointed me to that has requested her presence. I will ask her all the same, but I wished to let you know ahead of time." He didn't want Na'ka to get in trouble for being late on her way back just because he asked her to get a book for him.
"Third and finally, after a recent trip to Kel'Alee I realized I have a good bit of space going to waste in my Duchy. If it would benefit you there's a warehouse I could designate for your company's usage, at a reduced fee. And if you happen to purchase some of the goods from our local mine or sawmill and sell them elsewhere, well, then all the better." Tyr was crap at selling the things his duchy produced. It was a skill he intended to pick up at some point but never really found time for. It might not be as profitable having Kable as the middleman, but it could at least be done that way. Plus it wasn't like he really needed that income, but it would be nice to have all the same.
Order: 40 Iron (280 Ritz) 10 Ritz Delivery fee.
Retrieval Order: 2 moonstone(675) 5 obsidian (1250) 2 garnet (1250) 3 aquamarine (1350) 1 diamond (2000) 10 Silk (250) 50 Oak (500) 10 Ebony (400) 10 Ritz delivery fee 100 Ritz Retrieval fee 500 Ritz tip.
Grand total of 8,475 Ritz.

As always, Kable's people were appreciative of the business he gave them.
"Good day, Duke Mardok. Pleasant to see you again." Kable looked up from his papers to see Duke Mardok speaking to him. He smiled and nodded at the lord, and listened to him speak before replying. "I appreciate letting me know, Na'ka will handle whatever you need, so long as you're not trying to get her killed. Just joking. A warehouse huh? I could think of a reason or two to use that. Where is it located?"

"Your support is much appreciated. As for the warehouse, it's located in the northern part of my lands. A short distance down the road from my own workshop, which admittedly leaves me in a very advantageous position when it comes to restocking supplies. It will be near the heart of my Duchy, inside the walls of the city." Describing the town was getting interesting. As his territory expanded so did the citizenry, and with the amount of people he was close to calling it a 'capital' in its' own right.

"Very well, what do I owe you then?"
The merchant leans forward, steepling his fingers over the pages of his ledger. He was anticipating what it would cost him on a monthly basis. Not as many customers visited him anymore. Not since the rebellions had changed things and he got cut off from some of his suppliers. War did some good things for the economy, but so far those benefits hadn't reached him yet. Perhaps now he'd be able to stockpile some goods and sell them when things got better.

It was hard to put a price to a business relationship, especially one that didn't make people want to walk all over you. Tyr wanted Kable's caravan to have a solid location in his duchy for a few reasons, one of them being that he figured it would be useful to them. How do you factor wanting to be nice into an economic equation?
"200 Ritz up front, and the maintenance cost each month. When my mines produce some more stone I can see to it the foundations are improved to help reduce the monthly cost a small bit." As far as he knew that was a damn good deal on the down payment, and if it turned out Kable didn't need the space for anything he wouldn't be out too much in the end.
