Kell's attempts at gathering resources were moderately successful. He'd acquire four units of lumber from various trees throughout the forest for his efforts.

He hadn't diminished the forest by much, but he had a fair amount of lumber to show for it. In his mind he'd already divided up the wood into rough amounts to get the mines mills and farms going once again, those buildings already taking most of what he had gathered. That was his main goal currently so for him it wasn't at all a waste, it was slightly disheartening though to see that so much of his hard work had basically disappeared already into his projects.
the next problem unfortunately was carrying, he didn't have any sort of pack, just a simple belt that could only carry smaller objects anyway so was basically useless for carrying logs such as he had. It would be useful if he could build a cart or something but he had no animal with which to draw the cart nor really enough coin for a horse to be viable, buying one would wipe him out for coin for a while and even then the cart wouldn't be able to hold a huge amount.
There was another solution to his problem though, it would require another usage of his magic though, so there was no guarantee of his success given the fact that he had not had much practical experience beyond enchanting a few tools. This would require much more than the minor amounts of mana he had used to enchant those tools before, he wasn't sure even if his mana reserves were large enough for the task that he had in mind. The theory was quite simple it was just the practice that he was slightly dubious about, and there were other possible problems, dimensional magic was always a risk.
For now though he couldn't do it, he had been stupid last time in using magic in public, it was something he should keep to himself, his race wasn't barred from practising by the crown but instead condemned altogether. The secret of his power could be the difference between life and death so he would play his cards close to his chest and get to work on this later on in the manor where he would have some privacy.
Hauling a log on to each shoulder Kell started towards the warehouse, intent on delivering the logs there while he thought through his idea in more detail, if he could get this to work his carrying problems would be quite minor, and physically he'd be better as well for not having to haul around all sorts of raw materials and produce.

The last lot of wood made it to the shelves, neatly stacked up next to the other iron and materials that they'd gathered so far, the warehouse was largely empty but to Kell's mind that just meant that there was more space for the material that would hopefully be flowing in soon. They just had to get things running smoothly and all of the industry up and running again, once that was sorted they would have more material as well as providing jobs to the people within the county, from his count there couldn't be many jobs available in the county and so most of his people would be idle.
Next stop was to head back to Kevin, knocking before opening the door and entering the smithery. Kevin was sat, as usual, by his bench, working on whatever had gotten into his head now, muttering under his breath too low for Kell to really hear what he was saying. "I think we have got what we need, I assume there's enough builders within the county in to build? If we can get the old labourers to help in the building that would help, they know what needs to go in each. The basics only for now, farms, mills, you know right?" Kevin turned and sat up straighter in his seat, back to the workbench and arms resting on the side of it. "Did you put everything in the warehouse then?" Kell nodded in the affirmative, resting his hands on the sash that was tied around his waist and leaning on the doorframe.
Discussing the the logistics and positioning of the buildings took longer than the half-drokagr expected, several concerns that he hadn't anticipated having to deal with taking up quite a lot of time. Once all was said and done they seemed to have entered early evening and the buildings fully planned out and Kevin readying to go out and pass it on to the builders. "I'll be heading to the manor then, got some tidying up to do before I sleep tonight, make the place a bit more homely." The only response from Kevin was a quick good night before he turned back to his work and Kell walked out the door, not bothered by Kevin's terse response, it seemed to simply be how the blacksmith was more than intentional rudeness.

It was a pleasant walk to the Manor House, the evening air was cool on his skin, a welcome friend after the hard worker the day and then the cramped heat of the forge he'd just spent several hours in. Kell made the walk in good time, it wasn't hard for him to find the house despite having only been there a few times, it was a straight line from the hut with no obstacles in the way other than trees, that and once you got near to it you could see it through and above the trees.
Up close from the outside it was in a bit of a state, multiple times now he'd said he was going to have to do some cleaning up around in order to get it in fully working order once again, yet he hadn't had the drive to do so yet. There were other projects that more urgently required his attention before he had much of a need to renovate his house. A small sigh escaped his lips before he entered the house, not stopping this time at the entrance hall and instead proceeding further into the manor house. Upon reaching what appeared to be the remains of a sitting room covered the few windows with what little fabric he could find, closing the door to the room and lighting several candles around the room for light, although light wasn't really necessary it was more for comfort.
This time he chose a chair instead of the floor, another reason why this was probably much better to do in the confines of his own home, the aged chair might not be all that comfortable but it was certainly better than dry ground covered in roots and animal droppings of all kinds. Leaning back in the chair slightly Kell stared up at the ceiling, his mind already trying to figure out how he'd work this, it was a branch of magic with which he had no practical experience with at all, and the theory of it as with all others had been rather sparse.
After some time Kell pulled himself upright in the chair, an air of determination around him as he closed his eyes. Anyone with the ability would be able to detect the gathering of mana, Kell pulling as much of it as he could together surrounding his left arm from fingertip to shoulder. Kell's arm was wreathed in silver, almost like his arm had been covered in silver flame, the whole of it thrumming with power, his eyes opening and revealing them also being flooded with silver. With no idea what to do next he acted on pure instinct, doing what felt right and reaching out with his arm, touching the fabric of reality itself, drawing the arm in a slow vertical line. The air seemed to part behind the arm, and a tear formed in that parting, an opening into grey nothingness.
Kell saw it, examined it with eyes of pure silver, it was empty. He needed to fill it before he could do what he needed. With a flex of his mind the silver flames leaped off of his arm and into the void, only a small amount remaining still on Kell's forearm, the rest was pulsating in the beyond, moulding and shaping and creating. Unfortunately with the loss of so much power he could feel the tear closing, but he had a feeling that things had worked out right. A small channel still remained, he could feel the link still, all that remained now was some testing.

It hadn't taken long after the rift was closed before the silver left his eyes, fading out slowly, closely followed by the remains of the silver flames seemingly being pulled into his skin, the skin in his forearms glowing briefly before returning to their normal shade. The only bit to which this didnt apply was to the underside of his wrist, where a silver diamond had appeared, about two inches across and double that in length, pointing length-ways towards his palm. It burned with the unused power he'd absorbed before it dispersed into the rest of him, the diamond remaining at a muted silver. How it had gotten there was a mystery to him, he'd heart tell of power markings, but not of how a mage came to posess such a thing, could it be something to do with the large amount of magic he'd worked, he'd have to look into it later, for now he needed to test the thing he'd put so much power into.
The novice mage pulled his shortsword slowly from it's sash, holding the blade outstretched in front of him with both hands, it was all he had to hand that wasn't farming tools and was now easily replacable. In fact he was fairly sure that Kevin could make better given the right materials, so the blade was fully expendable for his testing purposes. Kell felt the item in his hands, sheathing it in mana and opening the link that he'd retained, using his own power to send it through the link. Before his eyes the sword vanished, seemingly dissapearing along with the mana that he'd put around it.
He could still feel it though, in the space he'd created he could feel it, it was there, and with a mental flex and a slight delay it appeared back in his hands, the mana that disappeared with it also returning, minus a small bit that he assumed must have been used up in order for it to travel as it had. It had worked near enough perfectly for him, maybe the time it took for him to activate it and put items away or retrieve them was too slow, but that was something he could improve upon with practice. The capacity was rather small currently, but as his control and understanding of his magic grew he assumed it would, if not he'd just have to create more of them to hold things in.

It was still fairly early evening, and although he felt drained from working magics much more powerful than he had ever before he still didn't feel as though he could sleep. He'd had quite an active day no doubt, chopping logs and carrying them to the warehouse, a job that would now be significantly easier now that he had his pocket, he could carry far more with him now than he was able to before. The power mark wouldn't need any more research particularly, it wasn't going to be harmful towards him, and if what he had read before was correct it would in fact serve as a focal point that'd more easily allow him to use magic.
All in all he'd gotten quite a lot done today, on top of that by now Kevin would probably be talking to the builders about beginning work soon, the faster everything was up and running the quicker they could make use of the employment and results. Things were starting to get into place, it was interesting to think that he'd actually managed to get it all together so quickly, the buildings might take a while to build but it hadn't taken him long to take some initiative and gather the materials and such, it was difficult to see why no one had before.
The next aim was to get some sort of defensive magic for himself, or offensive, preferably one of each. It was all good having magic as his trump card, but that was in fact useless if he didn't have anything he could do with it beyond storage. some sort of shield would be useful to him, as well as an attack of some kind should his sword fail him, even just a simple bolt of mana he could fire out would probably be useful. A simpple ball of mana couldn't be that difficult could it, if he gave it physical form but left it as unshaped pure power it would be able to do damage surely?
Kell raised his arm, pointing at the first of the three candles he'd scattered about the room for light, he was done in here and had no need for them, yet why put them out by hand, where was the fun in that. He did need to practice his magic more, he'd let it get rusty in his time since leaving the enclave, not that he'd had much chance to practice there either, but it was a useful talent to have and one he should nurture. Kell sent a ball of mana at each light, aiming to engulf the wicks and smother the flames.

All three of the candles guttered out as the mana projectiles hit and Kell was left in darkness with a small smile on his face, it only lasted for mere moments though as he got up and removed himself to the front room where he slept, laying himself down on his pallet purely because there was naught else he could do at the time it was.

There was nothing left to do of the day and yet Kell couldn't sleep, he'd done a fair amount, it had been both a physically and mentally draining day and he could still feel the fatigue from the magic he'd wrought, but he couldn't seem to sleep, he was quite restless if anything. It took him but a moment to stand from his pallet once again, ensuring that all of his equipment was securely in place before stepping away and examining the room around him.
It wasn't a particularly nice room to be in, it was still quite dusty and uncared for, he'd have to talk to Kevin about sorting the renovations, he'd start on it as soon as the mills and miles and that were up, they took precedence. But still, standing here starting at dust caked walls, floors and everything inbetween wasn't helping with his restlessness, he needed to go for a walk. That would do, a nice walk outside in the cool night air would do him a world of good, and help him to use up some of the near limitless energy he seemed to have.
Stepping out and closing the doors behind him Kell immediately felt the forest, it was so different to be out in it eventhough before he'd been seperated from it only by walls. Night predators called and swooped while prey hid, trees rustled and leaves fell, it all was quite picturesque. If he'd been much better at art he may have attempted to paint it, but unfortunately it hadn't been a strong suit for him. Still it was a nice scene, and he could keep it in his head at least for sure, even if he couldn't look at it or share it in the same way that he could a painting he could at least keep it in his own mind.
It was then that he spotted a rather opportune thing, a dragonfruit lying on the floor, must have been part of some animals winter stash, abandoned on the way. It was a good find for him, he needed to stock up on food as it was really. He had the time, and he wasn't doing anything at this moment other than going for a walk, he might as well gather what he could, make the walk useful and burn off more energy while he did it, he'd sleep well after that, yes it sounded like a solid idea.

There was quite the bounty hidden amongst the forest, it wasn't hard to find many and soon he had far more than he could actually carry, luckily he had several pockets that he could put the gathered dragonfruit into. Once he'd filled them as well the dragonfruit went into his new storage, still filling that up rapidly. By the time he'd gotten to the sixth one he'd already filled up every method of storage that he had, proof that he'd definitely need to find some sort of other way of storing things. A pack or bag of some sort would probably be quite a good idea at this point, for more mundane things that he didn't want to waste the space in his planar pocket to hold with him. For that he'd have to talk to Kevin though, and get some leather, although it wasn't of major concern at this moment in time.
By the time he'd ran out of steam for gathering four of the fruits had already fell to his jaws, the flesh sating his minor appetite, reinvigorating him infact, he could feel his weariness fading. If he was right even, he could feel his mana replenishing that had slowly been trickling out of him to maintain the link. He'd need to find some sort of cure for that later on, maybe find a way to enhance his own mana regeneration to negate the cost of keeping up this link, but for now at least he seemed to have found out that dragonfruit would help, albeit in a highly inefficient way.
The remaining dragonfruit that couldn't find a space on his person were carried back to the manor house, placed on a clean cloth and tied in a bundle to sit in the middle of the room, the theory being that they shouldn't mold too quickly inside and so he could keep them around for a small supply of on hand food should the need arise. Kell knew that he already had the rations he'd picked up from Kable but there was no harm in preparing extras, plus the taste of the rations just didn't compare to the real thing.
Despite feeling back up to full strength his mental weariness definitely hadn't been erased by the fruit, and now he was starting to feel it much more even for such a small and simple task as having to find the dragonfruit. It seemed the best plan for him to just get in bed and sleep now, and it was a plan he very quickly put into action.

Sun rose in the morning to find Kell already hard at work, he'd readied himself and gathered his usual gear in fairly good time, pausing only to wash himself briefly in a bowl of water and strap on his sword and tools. It was the scroll that still sometimes gave him pause, he still had no real idea what exactly it was used for, he'd read nothing on scrolls before, scrolls mostly being used either by those with the inability to harness mana themselves, or mages who required pre-constructed spells they could just unleash much quicker. It would have to be an area he studied himself, he assumed it would be similar to enchanting except with the addition of writing down something on the scroll also, presumably some sort of incantation or similar. That would be a difficult part for him as he didn't use any sort of incantation usually, he'd have to come up with one by himself.
Once again that was something that could be addressed at another time, for now he figured that he needed a new weapon, the shortsword was good but it was far to up close and personal for his liking, he'd prefer something that kept him solidly out of the fight and therefore hopefully more out of danger. A bow would probably satisfy this, but for that he'd need wood, something they were of course in short supply of, just like most other things.
Resting a hand on the head of the axe he carried Kell left the manor, taking the short walk from his own home to Kevin's at a slower pace as he admired the scenery. It really was a beautiful little county, seemingly untouched by the wars and power struggles going on around it, just how he liked it and how he'd like to keep it. For now it wasn't much of a concern but at some point war would come to them, it was just a case of them being ready at the time when the threat reared it's head.
But for now, things were fine, before he knew it he was outside Kevin's hut, although he quickly realised there was no reason for him to be, he might as well just go and gather the wood now, let the smith have some time to tinker away at what he desired rather than coming in and disrupting him as seemed to have become habit. For now he'd let the man tinker, when he came back with what he wanted then he would become a disruption and distraction.
On the way past he dropped off all of his dragonfruit into the warehouse, freeing up space in his interplanar pocket so that he could carry his gains back easier, assuming he had any, he kept one in a pocket incase he became hungry but other than that they were all left in the warehouse, it was fairly dry and secure in there so they shouldn't mold or be eaten by animals.
Once he'd sorted everything else out he wandered around the forest, it took him a while to find an area of trees that he liked the look of, but once he had he set to work quickly, drawing his axe and attempting to fell as much as he could without too much waste.

Sweat dripped, axe hit wood, Kell was working hard, each hit containing as much power as he could muster, it was oddly satisfying to hear the thunk of metal on wood and see the tree fall. The only downside was that sometimes he misjudged it and had to dive out of the way of said falling tree, it took him a while to learn how to properly judge where the tree would fall and how quickly it would, but he managed it so that by the time the last tree fell he could tell with a fair degree of accuracy and be out of the way well in advance.
And so it was that when all was done he was near full to the brim with wood, enough that he was sure that Kevin could make him a good enough bow, it would be finding the time to actually train with a bow that would be the more difficult part. If he couldn't shoot with the bow then there was no point in having it really was there, and he'd never held one before so as far as he was concerned he couldn't shoot with one.
A thought had come to him though while he was chopping wood, the new laws basically forbid the initiative from operating, all Drokagr were slaves or outlaws now and so the initiative would either be disbanded or have obtained some sort of rebel status, either way they couldn't be doing all that well now. They'd helped him through for a time, giving him safety in numbers as he travelled as well as some pay for the work that he did, allowing him to purchase the materials he'd needed to begin work down here. All in all he owed them really, that and the work they did was important, it needed to be continued.
Kell kept this in mind as he returned to the warehouse, putting away all of the wood and taking up his cache of dragonfruit to replace it. From there he went and asked Kevin for paper and writing supplies before heading back to the manor, figuring that writing a letter as an explanation as well as something to send it along with would be best.

The message was written on a piece of paper and as soon as the ink was dry rolled up and in Kell's hands as he made it to Kevin's. Once there it was given over to the blacksmith to send it with the first runner that he could, someone in the county would be able to deliver it for him, although it could take a relay due to the distance between here and Korasus. Still, the letter would get there and that was what mattered really.
Now that the county had the basics going he was almost at a lost end, the buildings were going up and even starting to pump out some goods for him, the borders were slightly more secure with the minor military presence that he had, he'd gotten all the tools and such that they'd need and sorted out the first step towards befriending the initiative. He had some plans for in the future, but for now it seemed that all of the foundations were in place there wasn't much to be done, there were time constraints on some ideas, and for others he just simply wasn't strong enough to carry them out, he couldn't seem however to increase his own strength currently, he was beginning to reach a point where his lack of training was a huge constraint. If he had someone else who could teach him he was sure he could increase in leaps and bounds, the problem was the fact that there was no one that could actually teach him, no one that he knew of anyway, mages not controlled by the crown were a rare occurance. Elkagr would never deign to teach him, the empire of the high born had a strong dislike of the Drokagr, and his own people simply didn't think it was worthwhile for him to learn. It was a predicament, but not one that he could currently solve.
"Kell, go get some fresh meat, i'm tired of the bread and dragonfruit we have. I need meat." Kevin suddenly started, putting his slice of rhotbrot back on the table, having stared at it for the past couple of minutes. Kell looked up from his thoughts, placing that it was Kevin who talked, "Where from? It's not as if I can just conjure it out of thin air." At this Kevin turned to face the half-Drokagr, seeming to think for a moment before responding. "You've got that fancy sword on your belt and enough tools for a small group of labourers, i'm sure you can get something by yourself?" It was quite clear that Kevin just wanted meat and didn't really care how he got it so long as he did, but Kell had never hunted before so even with proper gear and preparation it'd be difficult for him, but with just a sword and some tools it'd be even harder. Being how he was though, he couldn't say no to the Blacksmith's request, seeing as Kevin had done a lot for him without asking for much in return.
"Fine I'll go now, no promises though, I've never really hunted before so it'll be whatever I by chance can grab." He said as he exited the hut and walked into the woods, trying to find a space where he thought he'd have a chance.

The main problem with this idea was the fact that he'd never hunted before in his life, or even read a book on how to hunt, or had any sort of training. Put simply he had pretty much no idea what to do, should he climb a tree adn jump down on things or should he just run around looking for things to kill? He immediately crushed both of those ideas, the first would be far to inaccurate and unlikely to work, plus he'd likely injure himself somehow or other. The secound he discounted purely because the amount of sound he'd make running about was likely to drive away any potential prey rather than enable him to kill it.
The best plan was likely to conceal himself, if he could do such then he'd be less likely to scare away all the prey in the area, and he didn't have the possibility of falling out of a tree and hurting himself. It seemed the best plan to him, he just had to be as quiet as he could while he hid and at the last possible moment strike, it'd be slow going of course but to his mind it seemed really to be the only viable way he could hunt.
So saying he scouted around for a while, eventually finding himself a rather large bush within which he concealed himself. It seemed as if it would be sufficient, so long as he stayed still and stopped himself from making any more noise than was necessary. Slipping his sword from it's holder Kell settled in for the wait, blade in front of him ready for a quick thrust out when the moment came. It was only once he was already in position that he realised animals had no reason to come to him, he was just a random bush amongst a forest of them. Animals liked dragonfruit right? He assumed they did at least, so cut open the dragonfruit he'd brought with him and placed it open in front of the bush, hoping that the smell would waft and attract some prey to the food, and their own death.
