Jorkahn didn't know much about the Skaldi, only that they were fighting for their race's freedom. Frankly, it was a cause he could get behind. He respected the massive bipedal reptiles. They knew how to fight and to work, they rarely complained about anything. Exactly the opposite of how he used to be. The half-breed had plenty of reason to be there, but his main concern was the reports of SKC and bandits in the area. From what he heard they weren't particularly friendly to anyone that passed by the roads. The SRF had been reaching out for support it seemed, and because their goals met up in one way or another the Champion of Jewels decided he wanted to help.
The young man was coming up the road to the border of New Skaldira horse Libby in tow. He wasn't riding her at the moment in order to conserve her stamina in case a chase or, gods forbid, an escape was on the agenda. His sources told him the meeting point was on the border roads somewhere. Hopefully, after walking down them long enough he would run into someone who could point him in the right direction.

He would run into an aquatic Skaldi that was heading towards New Skaldira themselves. This Skaldi was uninterested in talking to Jorkahn at all. Instead this Skaldi kept an eye on Jorkahn and made every effort to keep Jorkahn in front of them until they reached New Skaldira. Then the Skaldi would go into the city. Jorkahn would be stopped by several Saurian berserkers milling around the gate. They would not let him in. Nor would they speak to him unless he spoke to them first. They were being objectively difficult on purpose.

After a while of nothing, Jorkahn thought he would head towards New Skaldira. After all, someone was bound to know what was going on there, he thought. On his way, the half-breed ran into an aquatic Skaldi. He nodded a greeting but all the Skaldi seemed to do was keep a wary on him. He hoped the rest of them wouldn't be this unfriendly. It could make things very difficult. Eventually, they reached New Skaldira and his travelling 'companion' walked right passed him through some guards into the city. When the Saurians saw him they barred his path, unspeaking. It unnerved him a little bit, but the Champion would not let himself be stonewalled so easily. The young warrior raised his hands so as to look non-threatening. Though that may be difficult considering the sheer size of the armor he wore and the great axe on his back.
"Greetings, noble Skaldi. I am not here to cause trouble. I was informed that a patrol was going out to secure the roads out of this place and I wish to offer my services. Could you please point me in the right direction?"

"Why do you feel the need to help the lizards? They killed many and took that city by force. No better than the king, how they were let into the alliance I'll never know."
"That may be but before that they were heavily oppressed if I recall, not that it justifies the slaughter but they probably see you the same as you do them. Plus they're a major power and not all that far from us, it's a simple favour they're asking of a quick patrol around the borders. They'll supply some of their men as well and I can't imagine there will be much about anyway. If we do this it'll at least give us some sort of inroad to talk to them some more. It's simple enough."
"I don't like it. The lizards took one city how do we know they won't take another. How do we know it won't be us next."
"Because why would they have any interest in this little patch. Plus the minute they did that the alliance would turn on them and they would be back where they began being hated by everyone."
"Fine. But keep an eye on them we have only just got you let's not lose you so quickly."
So it was that Kell ended up approaching the gates of New Skaldira, with bow on back and sword at his side ready to lend a hand and possiby open diplomacy with the Skaldi, Kevin's warning was in his mind but until he was given reason otherwise he would try to be friendly and diplomatic. As he looked ahead however he could already see one person who was being barred at the gate, if things were becoming problematic already then it was going to be a long few days. As he approached he could see the person in front of the gate was quite heavily armed, he presumed this person was here for the same reason as he.

The Skaldi looked around at each other slightly confused until another one came out from the gates and greeted the half-elkagr and half-drokagr. This Skaldi was a viper type, and had a long slender body and long slender limbs. It appeared to be female, but unless one was familiar with Skaldi physiology it would remain a mystery. The Skaldi hissed at them, and began to speak.
"You must both be from the alliance. Patrol the highway from here to the border of Hillsfar province. You will receive your reward when it's done. Not before. Should take you a few days to get to the border and back. These three warriors will accompany you."
And with that, they had received their orders.
The Saurian berserkers are not controllable by players.

Confusion was better than outright aggression, but it also caused the Ritgr to worry about being in the right place. This was New Skaldira, right? He hadn't really been in the area before, but he was pretty decent at reading maps and navigating his way around. Fortunately, a Viper Skaldi came out of the gates with what seemed to be a rather harsh greeting. When she addressed them as two, the Champion turned around to see who else was there. It seemed a half-drokagr had snuck up on them. The young man gave him a quick nod before listening to the rest of what the Viper had to say.
"Thank you." The half-breed turned to his companions. "Shall we get going then?" Jorkahn smiled slightly and barely waited for a response before heading down the road to Hillsfar. If he was followed he would continue for a while before speaking again. If he wasn't followed he would stop and wait for his companions.
"My name is Jorkahn Wealddir. I hail from Viktoria. What are your names?" He was speaking to whoever would listen, Skaldi or otherwise.

these were the first Skaldi Kell had seen and so far they definitely looked quite fearsome. They were huge, he'd be little more than a toothpick if one of them got it in their minds that he looked tasty. His companion didn't really look much less fearsome, he was in a suit of strong looking armour and armed to the teeth, Kell felt quite ill-equipped by comparison but at least reasoned that hopefully his teammate's skill would match up to his appearance.
It was quickly revealed he'd been right and the other person was in fact now his companion for the duration of this when the Skaldi began talking to them both, the instructions were pretty simple and the warriors were assigned to them and then they set off. Kell had began to wonder if the pace set by the Skaldi would be to severe for them to match and had hoped there'd be no issues, it seemed not however as his more human companion set off with Kell following shortly behind. He supposed the Saurians would just follow them really, it would be a lot easier if they did.
When his companion did begin to speak he would answer, them being able to at least be half friendly towards each other would make things all the easier, that and it didn't exactly look like the Skaldi were going to be capable of much in the way of conversation. "Kell Lo'Tharan." Omitting his own home was probably for the best, it wasn't something he was really up to publicise currently. "Hopefully between us and these big guys we shouldn't have too much trouble right?" Hopefully they wouldn't run into anything too strong, it was just a quick patrol after all.

The highway was quite long, and by foot it would take several days to make both the outbound trip to the border, and the return trip. The three saurians were not very talkative to the two outsiders with them they did not trust anyone with Elkagr-Blood in them, and the Drokagr seemed too alien and strange to converse with. They spoke some of Cruic, but not enough to make pleasant conversation. Instead to the Sissak trained ear they'd be babbling on about nothing. They did, however, introduce themselves in cruic.
"Crask."
"Asork."
"Tamal."

The Champion listened as each person introduced themselves making a mental note to remember all of their names. It was a rather diverse party he would be travelling with for the next few days. In fact, it just occurred to Jorkahn this was the first time he had ever travelled with a group where the Skaldi outnumbered the rest. The young man didn't understand a word of Sissak. He found himself wishing he had asked Tyr to write him up a copy of the compendium they had earned from Nak'mantul. It would give the half-breed a way to hopefully earn the trust of the majority of his party. Oh well, he would just have to show his competence on the patrol.
"A pleasure meeting all of you."
Before answering Kell's question Jorkahn turned to his horse and stroked her mane gently. "Oh, before I forget. This is my horse, Libby. Don't worry, she won't bite." As was common with horses Libby had a rather neutral look on her face and barely acknowledged the rest of the group. The warrior then turned back to Kell, a slightly more serious look on his face. "I hope so. But I find it best to always prepare for the worst."
Jorkahn turned his eyes back to the road, ears perked up and head held tall. He was determined not to miss anything that may sneak up on them all.

THe Skaldi as he expected weren't overly talkative, assuming of course that they could even speak Cruic, if not then that could spell trouble later, Kell wasn't all that sure what language Skaldi actually spoke amongst themselves but kept a note to look into it later, communicating with them would be very useful. At least now however he knew their names which if nothing else was useful for catching their attention should he need to do so, although still his other companion seemed the better bet for conversation.
His companion seemed quite civil, having then gone on to introduce his horse, again sparking another point in Kells mind. He needed a mount of some sort, it took far too long to go walking everywhere and a horse could cut down the amount of time it took him to get from A to B by a huge amount which would save a lot of wasted time. Jorkahn's horse seemed a rather fine specimen at first glance, although he knew nothing about horses it seemed to be in good shape at least, and quite aesthetically pleasing also. He'd have to get himself a horse at some point, if he had this entire patrol would probably currently be going a lot quicker, but no point thinking of coulds and woulds, for now he'd have to deal with it and after find himself a mount.
Back to the task at hand, Jorkahn made a good point, "That seems a solid idea, well you definitely look prepared for the worst as do our three escorts" He said, eyeing the impressive armour Jorkahn wore and the weapons he and the Skaldi carried, his own looked quite plain in comparison, hopefully he could keep up with them should they come to fighting.

Day 1: -Distance Traveled: 1D20 => 17 Miles -17 Miles to go until border. -Nightfall.
The Skaldi stopped and started to make camp for themselves by the side of the road. It was apparent by the manner and amount of supplies that they had brought that they only intended to make camp for themselves. Sharing a fire however was not out of the question depending on who got the fire started first. They had cleared an area, and started setting up sleeping spaces for themselves first.

Jorkahn nodded without looking at Kell, a small smile on his face. "Even the hardiest and most versatile of tools are useless in untrained hands." The half-breed continued to scan the horizon. "Most of my arsenal is brand new, so I am still breaking it all in. Let's hope my skills live up to my appearance, eh?" The young man chuckled under his breath. The rest of the hike would prove uneventful. Whether it was travelled in silence or not was up to his companions.
Seventeen miles. It made Jorkahn whistle under his breath. They had made great headway, travelling nearly half the distance on foot on the first day. Boring as it was the Champion hoped that things would go this smoothly for the rest of the trip. Eventually, his Skaldi companions broke off to set up camp. A quick look at their supplies and Jorkahn's somewhat trained eye determined they did not intend to set up camp for their non-Skaldi companions, so the lad got to work on his own. He would set up his own. Jorkhan started by finding a suitable area and clearing any debris that would get in the way of a good night's sleep. After that, he would attempt to set up his tent and clear an area for his horse to graze and be sheltered from the elements. And last but not least he would collect enough kindling and tinder for his own campfire just in case.
Making camp: Easy (30)+ K(35)+ Camping I (5)= 70 Threshold. 6u62i1gy Success! Camping II earned!
It all came together rather nicely and didn't take very long to boot! They had enough time to perhaps cook up a meal if they wanted to or talk. Jorkahn lit his fire and invited Kell and the Skaldi to join him. "Sir Lo'Tharan, you can sleep in my tent tonight if you want. It's big enough for a few people. Unfortunately, I do not have an extra sleeping bag." He poked at the fire and added a few bits of wood here and there. "Would anyone care for some Salamander meat or some dragonfruit?" Jorkahn held up each item as he spoke of it. "I am not much of a cook but I will try my best!" He only had enough Salamander meat for three people. It was first come first serve. He did have enough Dragonfruit for everyone, however.
"I am also willing to take first watch."

Jorkahn seemed to have a solid head on his shoulders, by all evidence so far he seemed like someone that Kell would be able to get on with really well. If not then he was someone that Kell could at least be with during this trip, the Skaldi seemed overall quite unfriendly, although there was a language barrier between them which of course would make things far more difficult.
Either way when they eventually did stop and start setting up camp it was quite sudden and not communicated, they just got on with it. It took him a few more moments for him to realise also that they were setting up camp for themselves only, the two half human companions were not to be made part of their camp. It was then of course that he realised he'd not bought a tent or sleeping bag or anything of the sort, it having slipped his mind to request some from Kevin after his training in Innorsford, a stupid mistake on his part and one that he couldn't very well fix now.
And so it was that when Jorkahn's offer came he was immediately greatful, he could survive without a sleeping bag but without a tent would be far more uncomfortable. The sir was a bit of a shock, he'd never really been addressed by a title before, he was simply Kell to himself, it was definitely an odd feeling. "I appreciate the offer of shared shelter, I was just going to be camping on the ground but a shared tent sounds much cosier. For the sleeping bag I can make do, my own fault for being so vastly unprepared I'd say."
It was then his companion began bringing out meat and fruit to be shared around the fire, it was a nice gesture but Kell would shake his head, not wanting to impose upon Jorkahn anymore than he already was, although he was sure that Jorkahn's meat would be nice he wouldn't take it. "I'll take the second then if you're doing the first, the dark is no issue for my vision."

The Skaldi Crask, Asork, and Tamal, were all busy setting up their own camp. They ignored the offer of food, they had their own. They did not need to share a tent, they had their own sleeping bags. So far, the night had been quiet.
