The Skaldi barely so much as acknowledged them and Kell refused the food. Jorkahn shrugged and stashed his provisions. At Kell's comment about being unprepared Jorkahn responded with a smile. "Consider it a learning experience. You can sleep for a few hours, I will come get you when it's your turn." He waved goodnight to both the half-drokagr and the Skaldi before taking up his post. He would stand vigilant until it was Kell's turn to take over or until he spotted something.
Libby walked around the grass and grazed. She was content where she was and would fall asleep when she was ready.

And a learning experience he was sure it would be. It seemed that the Skaldi were actively ignoring the two of them, it made sense considering the Skaldi seemed to have only recently stopped being essentially on their own against anyone, but still he had hoped they could at least be courteous towards each other. Maybe that was a foreign concept to the Skaldi, he had no idea about their culture or anything about them really other than now what they looked like, even that before had been something he'd only read and heard, never seen first hand.
Once he'd said his goodnights to Jorkahn Kell would climb into the tent and try to make himself as comfortable as possible, using his softer garments as a pillow and keeping his clothes on to lessen the need for a blanket of some sorts, he really should have rememberd some sort of sleeping roll. It wasn't the most comfortable of arrangements but he was at least able to sleep while Jorkahn stood watch outside for them all, that assuming of course the Skaldi didn't set their own watch, once again he was far to unfamiliar with their kind. Either way he would sleep until he was woken, be that by Jorkahn or crows something else.

The Champion of Jewels stood vigil over the dark. For six hours he rarely took his attention off their surroundings, his ears attempting to pick up any little sound different from the norm he had come to learn in the night. Every so often the half-breed would look down at his Sissak codex. He read a small amount of the tome when Tyr originally gave it to him. This time he planned to read through the whole thing, maybe it would help him communicate with the Skaldi better. Alas, the warrior had been a little too focused on doing his duty and learning a new language. This caused him to be on watch for two hours longer than he planned. It wasn't until he realized how tired he was that Jorkahn moved towards his tent to wake up Kell. If the half-drokagr was asleep Jorkahn would gently shake him awake attempting not to alarm him.
"Second watch is yours. Wake me if you need me or when it is time to leave, please. Good luck." When Kell was eventually wakened, and if he didn't need anything from the Half-Elkagr, the young Ritgr would climb into his sleeping bag and fall asleep.

Kell slept fitfully, it was a trait of his race and an unfortunate curse that made it rare for him to get anything approaching a decent nights sleep. He'd slept long enough however that he'd be able to function when Jorkahn came to wake him, and was quick to strap on his armour and buckle on his sword belt as he left the warmth of the tent to sit his turn at watch. His would be the worse of the two as he'd have no time to rest between it ending and their journey resuming, but Kell didn't mind overly as he'd only get a few more hours of restless sleep anyway if he didn't stand a watch.
For the majority of Kell's watch he could be found peering into the darkness, his eyes allowed him clear vision of the area around him and made the dark not quite so difficult as it could for others. He'd know if anything came at them hopefully because he'd be able to see them coming, it was the trade off for his own inability to sleep properly he guessed. It seemed that they were taking their lead from the Skaldi so Kell would stand watch until they decided it was time to leave or he reasoned it was the end of his shift, hopefully it would be a peaceful watch.

Time Progression Time: Dawn 1D8 => 2 Hours passed
The Skaldi began to wake from their slumber as soon as the first lights of day began to break through. They were packing up their camp and getting their equipment ready for the day ahead. They were not expecting any issues of course. They seemed to be moving about confidently, like they had done the route a hundred times. They may have in fact. Once they were ready, Crask approached Kell and Jorkahn's camp and announced that they were ready to move on, and that if they did not want to be left behind, they would have to be ready at that very moment as well.
"Crask. Ready, go now. No wait."

Jorkahn woke to the sound of packing and movement outside his tent. With a start, the half-breed rubbed the sleep from his eyes and poked his head outside the tent. To his relief, the Skaldi were simply packing up to continue with their patrol. "Wait a minute..." The Champion said to himself and hurriedly began to get dressed and pack up himself. When Crask came over Jorkahn was nearly finished. He decided to attempt some of the Skaldi he had learned last night.
"One moment, please. Almost done."
Attempting to speak Sissak: Sissak I (5)+ K (35)+ Normal (15)= 55 oSlflX55 Success!
If they waited he would be all the happier, if not he could easily catch up on his horse. Jorkahn was just happy that the Sissak seemed to come out just fine. It wouldn't take long for the rest of the camp to be packed up and ready to go. When the lad was ready he would go along with the rest of the patrol or quickly catch up. The warrior would walk beside Kell as he was easier to talk to.
"How'd the watch go?" The Half-Elkagr kept his eyes forward, ever scanning the horizon.

Kell's watch was uneventful, nothing cmae up upon them and tried to kill them in the night luckily. Then again whatever party wanted to attack two hulking saurians and two military looking types would need some good firepower, that or a lot of luck. Although if someone were to try and attack the party they'd probably just lost their best chance of the day, at night they were far more vulnerable. Either way it had been uneventful and for that he was glad, if all went well then hopefully they wouldn't have to fight at all and it'd be an easy bit of money for him to bring home.
It didn't seem all that long before the Skaldi began to pack up their equipment, Kell set about gathering up his own meagre belongings and properly taking care of their fire, and by the time he'd done so the Skaldi were nearly ready to go and Jorkahn was out of the tent and hurriedly breaking camp.
It was then that he began some sort of strange half dancing maneuvre accompanied by some odd noises, he seemed t obe aiming it at the Skaldi but Kell had no idea what was happening. It would seem that potentially his companion had gone mad overnight...That was going to make things substantially harder. Seemingly he snapped out of it very quickly however, and whether the Skaldi chose to leave without them or not Kell would wait and help Jorkahn pack up.
When Jorkahn questionned Kell about the watch he would reply, "It was uneventful, that however is a good thing in my books."

A look of surprise came over Crask. Then his face stiffened and he nodded. He went over to the others and exchanged some words. The group waited for a moment, until the others were ready to move on. The three Skaldi would move in front, heading back towards the city of New Skaldira. The road, a long and wide dirt highway, was well traveled normally. Through this trip it had been eerily quiet. Currently they had managed two miles in the course of an hour. Morning moved on and would soon give way to mid morning and rising temperatures.

The Skaldi waited for him to finish, it only took a few minutes. He seemed to have taken Crask off guard. It was a bit comical of a sight to see, but the young man appreciated the Skaldis' cooperation. Jorkahn nodded his thanks in the berserkers' direction. Libby bayed almost as if she was thanking them in turn. The Champion brushed her mane and listened to Kell, nodding as he spoke.
"Good to hear. My watch was also uneventful, it has me a tad uncomfortable, however. From my experience in bandit ridden lands too much quiet often means an ambush. I haven't noticed anything, however." The half-elkagr kept his eyes fixed on their surroundings and his ears open. Perhaps he was just being paranoid? "I don't mean to scare you, however. I have been wrong before. This goes without saying, but just keep your guard up."
As time went on the silence remained pervasive and the temperatures rose. If it got much hotter it would likely prove difficult to keep his mind sharp while walking down an open highway. The warrior couldn't shake the feeling of paranoia he was feeling, he wondered if the Skaldi or Kell had the same feelings.

It was fair advice, Jorkahn likely had far more experience in this kind of situation than he did, he'd not been much for border patrols or the like, that having been an exercise for his men that he'd not partaken in. He had no intention of dropping his guard in foreign lands, but Jorkahn's reminder served to help him remember the importance of doing so. Still so far things had been pretty much uneventful, bar Jorkahn's odd dancing and noises which seemed to have been some sort of communication to their Skaldi companions, and no one would judge him for wanting it to stay that way right?
For now he'd continue onwards with the party, the rising temperature caused him some discomfort because of the layers of leather he wore, he couldn't imagine how Jorkahn was dealing with it in his solid plate armour. Still he didn't currently seem much worse for wear, nor did their Skaldi companions. The waiting was what seemed to be getting on everyone, waiting for something to happen while simultaneously hoping that nothing would. It was to the point where Kell almost wished that were they going to be attacked at all during this patrol it would happen now, just so he could stop worrying and wondering over what was going to happen. It wasn't that he wanted action, it was just that he found the constant paranoia and vigilance taxing and this was one of two ways to remove that, the other being to complete the patrol which was still a ways off.

The team didn't notice that they had been surrounded until the arrows were already in flight. Jorkahn took three hits, one in the shoulder, one in his left upper arm, and a third in his groin. Each arrow bounced harmlessly off his more than sturdy armor. Some of the shafts snapped in half from the impact. The three archers that fired tried to duck out of view. Kell was the victim of a similar attack, arrows bouncing off his back, right side, and chest. They had fired at him from all angles. Their shots were to no avail. The assassins had also tried to duck out of view after the attack. Each of the skaldi were fired upon once. Apparently stories of the Skaldi's natural armor were enough to only be worth one arrow each to test for a weak point. Their weapons could not penetrate their scales.

The barrage of arrows surprised him. The half-breed brought up his shield in response but was too little too late. Fortunately for him, and seemingly the rest of his party, they bounced harmlessly off his armor. Jorkahn looked a little angry as he lowered his shield, unsure of whether or not he saw a few archers duck out of view. He was impressed with them, he had been on guard the entire time and they still caught them all by surprise.
The Champion bounded off in the direction he thought some of the arrows had been fired. When he reached where he thought the enemies were he would unleash a swath of fire from his hands. Perhaps this would flush them out of hiding or at the very least give them less area to hide.

And of course his wish was granted, with a series of sudden impacts, one in the back, one in the chest and one on his right side, each bouncing harmlessly off of his leather with the impact having been the only effect of them. Kell's hammer flew from his belt as he peered around, from the arrows around both the Skaldi and Jorkahn he concluded they'd faced similar attacks, although similarly they also seemed to have been uneffected by it. Jorkahn bounded off, likely after one of the assailants, and much to Kell's shock released a stream of fire from his hand, he'd had no idea that Jorkahn was a mage and wouldn't have believed it if he'd not seen it himself. It did however make it easy for himself as it was unlikely that Jorkahn would mind much about the fact that he was also.
Turning himself from Jorkahn Kell hefted his hammer and began in the direction that he'd been assaulted from, hoping to find his assailants, they'd hidden themselves after attacking him but from the direction the arrows had come and positions they'd hit him he was confident he could make a semi reasonable guess on where they'd be.
As he ran he'd cloak himself in arcane energies, while he may have been able to defend against the first attack with no issue he had no idea of what he'd face, and so better to be safe than sorry. Assuming he found an attacker, and once he got in range Kell would lead with his hammer, swinging it straight at an attacker's head.

The Wildfire
These three berserkers rushed forward alongside Jorkahn and Kell, expecting to find enemies in the brush just beyond them. Jorkahn cast his spell, spreading flames into the brush. The dryness of the air, coupled with the lack of rain heat were enough for the brush around them to catch fire immediately, which then spread to the trees, and continued to spread. Smoke filled the air completely, and an unrelenting inferno spread before them.
"Go... fire will consume us here."
One of the Skaldi said, and the three began to pull back to the highway to get out of the smoke. As they cleared the trees they coughed to clear their lungs, gasping for precious air. Meanwhile the fire continued to spread. It did not relent. The bandits were gone from sight. There was no pursuing them further through the flames.
-Inferno: Metal is melting, clothing is bursting into flames, and gear is being destroyed. This is the absolute worst kind of heat and fire you can run into. If it's an inferno, it's burning and sweltering too. Vitality Penalty: 30%, all characters must roll under their adjusted vitality to fight this or take 1d100 in damage. Burning: 1d100 Dmg per turn.
-Smoke Inhalation: This effect will increase the chances of your character passing out. All characters must roll under their vitality to fight this or take 1d100 in damage.
1D100 => 42 Jorkahn takes 42 Burning damage across all zones. (non magical) 1D100 => 62 Kell takes 62 Burning damage across all zones. (non magical)
