Arthurius plodded along in silence through the forest, completely absorbed in thoughts, unable to notice the natural beauty that surrounded him due to his deep thinking, unable to notice the birds chirping or the leaves squishing under his feet from the recent rainfall, all of this he did not notice so absorbed in his thoughts he was.
Arthurius considered where he should go from here, now he was out in the world alone he had no limitations, apart from having to find his resources himself. That was going to be his main issue until he could figure something out, up until noshed had most of his more basic ingredients basically handed to him on a plate, only having to worry about the harder to obtain ones.
The thought of actually having to gather his own materials snapped him out of it and brought him back to reality, he began to panic slightly at this, he needed materials fast as he could get them or how on earth would he ever get anything done.
Furious with himself for having overlooked such a basic thing his eyes immediately began scanning around him, he was moving rocks, looking around trees and bushes trying desperately to find anything he was familiar with that he could use, how had he overlooked something so simple.

Straw....straw....scrabbling around in the grass and ravaging the land around him had given him only a piece of straw, what could yo u make with a piece of straw. The short answer to that was nothing, nothing practical at least, sure it was used as an ingredient in some forms of herbalism but alone it was practically useless, time wasted as far as he was concerned.
if he wanted to get his plans in motion he'd surely need to consider finding himself an alchemists base, preferably somewhere secluded as he wasnt a registered Mage, no one had thought it to be worth the time or expense as he had only used very small magics and those he had used in his imprisonment so no one could see it anywhere. This meant unfortunately that if he used magic in public he'd most likely be dragged in front of the king for some crime or the other, but that didnt particularly bother him as for now he was more interested in his craftsmanship. He needed more resources if he was going to produce anything of even the lowest calibre.
Until he could find so,where to set up base this was what he would be limited to, basic crafts, he needed equipment and a stable work surface to create any of his more advanced poultices or potions, and a stable supply route for ingredients. For now he would be reduced to scrabbling about in the wilds trying to snag the best ingredients he could of the low quality range presented to him and hope that by using them he could convince someone that he was worth taking on as a craftsman so he could somehow find himself somewhere to work properly.

So he'd found some more from his scrabbling, the fruits of his labour sat before him on a fallen tree's trunk, some straw, leaves and a Dragonfruit. He could recognise the revitalising fruit from long nights of no sleep, they were useful to keep a man awake or to replenish them if they had expended all of their energy. There was also a rumour that mages used them to restore magical energy, he was sure he'd read that somewhere but couldn't quite remember, but he did know that they were fairly useful things to have.
Although his haul for now was rather pathetic he was sure that this was only the start, everyone had to start somewhere and he was no exception, starting small to eventually walk tall. Arthurius considered his options, he could carry on plundering the nature around him for more resources, he could try something with what he could or he could carry on walking. Considering he had practically no idea where he was walking now or later would make so difference so he should probably spend some more time gathering materials now.
His rational side told him he should anyway, gather some more materials before he carried on or tried to work, but he had a hunch, if he could combine what he had in a certain way then he had a feeling something would come out the other side, what exactly he did not know but it must be something. At that point his scientific side took over, he was in an area with an abundance of natural resources meaning even if his hunch was wrong there was surely other plants around that he could try and work with.
Arthurius began delicately taking parts of the Dragonfruit off, his fingers moving in a highly dexterous way as he took apart the fruit with the precision if a scalpel, picking up a large green stick he stripped off the bark to keep it as clean as he could he set to work trying to get something out of what he had.

Ethan did not like the cold.
Ethan did not like the wet.
Ethan did like the birds, though, they sung such happy little songs.
Perhaps Ethan should be happy, too?
Clinging to his cloak just a little tighter, he trudged slowly forward. Not on the hunt for anything particularly he glanced about, and checked around for anything berry like. If any anything was to be specifically noted. Food, or poison he could go for both. Both worked for what he wanted, poisons to feed others bellies, and food to feed his belly so he could poison others. Such a simple life, though something to make his life more complicated would be nice. Missives, missives, and pointless hunting about for mages was all he had to do lately. Hence why his supply was now gone, he had ran out of luck lately. Didn't mean well for the poor Ethan Atherton.
At least he wasn't the only poor sap out adventuring that day. Or better, he wasn't the poor sap peeling a Dragonfuit and prodding it with a stick. Now that was a little strange. Probably best to speak to this one.
"Ho, there!" Making his presence known before walking passed the man, eying what Arthurius was up to.

Arthurius growled quietly at the mess he had made, as if growling at it would give him back the precious supplies he had found and then used all to soon without a concrete idea of what he was making, only a hope that it'd turn out ok which was crushed rather swiftly. Muttering obscenities under his breath at the failed experiment he dashed it all away with a large swipe of his arm, knocking the useless mess off into the forest floor to probably be eaten by a squirrel or some other similarly useless creature.
The stick next to him he lifted, intent on snapping it in two over his knee just as he heard a voice. "Ho there" he heard, looking for the source of the sund he quite easily found it, it being a man who appeared to have stumbled across him working, if that was what you could call this monstrosity of a creation strewn about the forest floor several metres away.
dusting himself off Arthurius stood, eying the newcomer warily, holding the stick in a firm grip, as if it would actually be of any use in a fight, as if he actually knew how to fight. He'd spent so much time dedicated to work he'd never been able to learn something such as fighting, he saw fist fights as barbaric and inelegant anyway, a battle of the minds, or of magic and other more intelligent battle types that didnt involve rolling around in the mud was the kind he preferred.
"Hello" he said, uncaring that this mans first impression of him was of a man holding a stick covered in dirt with broken fruitaround him

This wasn't at all getting stranger by the moment. Not one bit. Even as the strange dual colored eyes met his own, quite average, brown eyes. Ethan was not yet reacting, more than giving the man a curious look. His focus shifting to the stick pointed in his direction. At least he could break it if it came to fighting the man. Though being forced to fight the man in the mud would make him even colder. Ethan didn't want to clean his only pair of clothes, in this cold.
"Are you okay?" More a little perplexed by this situation. Was it okay to leave the crazy man by himself? Without making sure he was not followed, or a violent person. He was also slightly curious. Though saddened by seeimg that he did not have a warm fire. That was a bummer. Ethan wasn't terribly great at fire building himself.

Arthurius looked at the stranger carefully, he did not look overly threatening nor was he acting in an overly intimidating manner so Arthurius let his guard drop, ramming the stick into the ground so that it stood out as if it were a flag pole with no flag. "I'm fine, just my work went wrong, poxy plants don't want to do what I say and become what I wanted, I was trying to make something out of some things, I don't even know what but it was something." At this point his eyes wandered back to the mess on the floor, his anger simmering still.
Next time it would be better, next time he would make something cool, something useful at the very least, but he'd need the right ingredients for that to work so he set out looking for stuff once again, not caring about the mud and leafy debris that was beginning to cover his lower half and the ends of his arms, it was work, if you worked hard then you got messy, that was how it was to him.
Realising though that he was being incredibly rude to the man who had taken time out of his woodland stroll ( or Arthurius presumed that's what he'd been doing) to ask if he was ok, he could at least be polite. "Are you okay?, I'm Arthurius Vallance, pleased to meet you" he said whilst still rummaging, sure he was polite but he didnt feel like he actually had to look at the man whilst talking. "I'm Ehtan." Feeling better that the man had decided to put the stick down. That was nice, a little less to worry about. He listened, then watched the man begin to take off again into the woods. So while gathering in Cruinthe, do as all the other do and gather with the strange man. Such a thing was friendly after all. No matter.
"I'm not trying to pry, but wouldn't it be best to study what the plants do first before you mix them together?" Speaking with a little experience after all, he had worked for a few years in an apothecary shop, though his wife was always much better at it then he was. "I used to run a shop a few years ago myself." Clarifying why he was even making a suggestion in the first place. He just thought he would try to help the man. After all, he was interested in what he may know of the craft. He did need somewhere to craft himself after all. Perhaps this man had somewhere, or they could just discuss the craft altogether. It was one of the few things that kept Ethan's attention.
Flower picking of all things. He waited for Arthurius to respond, while looking for plants of use as well.

Seemingly the man who had just introduced himself as Ethan was also joining him, he seemed to know what he was doing fairly well and was confident in his ways by the fact that he starting giving advice to Arthurius. The fact that he did seem to know what he was talking about boosted him in Arthurius' eyes to the point where he was someone worth having a conversation with that went beyond mere politeness. The fact that this man seemed learned, to an extent, meant Arthurius could quite happily talk to him and listen to what he had to say.
Taking a few moments to digest what Ethan had said, he then replied "Yes....examining their properties before he tried doing something with them would probably have been a much better idea....I think I just let myself get far to excited which is what prompted me to try making something with the plants that I had available at that time instead of waiting and gathering more samples and such."
Arthurius considered this for a few seconds, so as he'd thought Ethan was a fellow alchemist from the sounds of things, having run a shop before and most likely more experienced than Arthurius was. It was nice to meet a fellow alchemist, there weren't many of them and most of those that he'd met so far he'd found woefully inadequate. The standards were appalling nowadays and he intended to change that as quick as he could, but whilst bad alchemists were a problem bad ingredients were also a very important problem as without a decent supply you can't do anything.
"Do you do much in this field of work anymore?" Arthurius said, sitting down on the log and beginning to peel apart a dragonfruit, this time a lot more carefully than before, using several different methods to try and theorise about it's properties, if he could figure out more about his ingredients then it'd be much easier to know what he would theoretically need to use to get a result.

Ethan listened, but gave him a strange look when he started to speak in the third person. That was always a bit different to hear, but Ethan was glad that Arthurius decided to take his advice seriously. He liked it when his words were taken seriously, the corner of his mouth turned in a slight smile.
"I use poisons once in a while. Though lately my job is just hunting anymore." Introducing himself as a mage hunter wasn't always the best move he could make. After all, his profession was a little frightening. He just happened to have his arm band covered by his overcoat.
"How did you get into this business?" Returning the favor, before he would settle down and start playing with the sample of catpad that he had picked. It was weird to get back to doing tasks like this. Usually his wife would just be asked, he had forgotten that now.
