I took some moments to breathe on the shore then. I was beside myself with anger. "Fuck!" I exclaimed savagely through coughing. Not much fluid made its way down my throat, but enough to make me cough. "Shit!" I shouted impotently to the air. I may have been a novice swimmer, but these kinds of antics were above me certainly.
I came to my feet hoping beyond hope that something worth impaling or beating beyond recognition would make itself known. Something that would make me stop being so angry at myself. I wheeled on my wife who had been my rescuer. I didn't need help! I thought bitterly. "What are we going to do now?!" I shouted. "Well?! Can your magicks make something of this?"
I felt—above all, useless.

Astris blinked, taken aback. She'd never seen Ikram so angry, at least not at her. But rather than react in fear, responsive anger was the knee-jerk reaction. She had been worried about his state of being and was going to ask if he was alright, but apparently he was just fine. "First of all, You. Are. Welcome." She said in a clipped tone. "Secondly, give me a moment to think, I'm not your magic puppet to trot out anytime you have a problem!"
She turns on her heel and goes back to look at the pipeline in the water that is tantalizingly out of reach. Perhaps something similar could be achieved, so he could walk along the ground, weighted, rather than swim. If he had time where he didn't have to worry about breathing, it might be helpful. Maybe he has rope...
She turns and looks at him. "Did the horse come with a rope by chance?" Her tone is much less angry than it was a moment ago.

"I did not need your help" My tone is severe. "Not like that." I look at the horse. "No. He didn't. What would a rope do at any rate?" I ask. Magic puppet. Outrageous! She acts like I ask her to use her magic for anything. Does she not care that I jumped into the river rather than ask her to use magic? I fume quietly in my mind as I am used to doing.
I stand to the side, on the shore of the cursed river and silently damn its very existence. We turned the damn pump on, did we not? That should be enough. They ought to pay us and let us be on our way.

She gave him a longsuffering look, spreading her hands in a placating gesture. "Look, Ikram we can argue later. I was thinking that if we had a rope we could at least tie you to something so you didn't get drug off downriver again." She looks at the pipe and back again. I just found him...maybe it's not worth any reward to potentially lose him over this.
"Do you think you could walk along the bottom if you didn't have to worry about breathing? At least for a little while. I could perhaps recreate what I'd done and allow you to focus on getting there and finding out what the issue is."

"Tie me to something?" I'm incredulous. The idea is beyond an insult. I shake my head. "No. I couldn't just 'walk along the bottom' I would float. Have you never swam before in your life?" I spit. She clearly didn't know the logistics of what she'd asked. I'd need to also be carrying something quite heavy. And then there's the fish.
"And there were fish biting me!" I point out. "Do you know if there are piranhas in the Tesiak?" I ask, incensed. "Because I don't!"

She narrowed her eyes slightly, looking at him. Of course she's never swam before. Why on earth would she swim? That is an idiotic question, but he was obviously incensed so she decided to let it slide and decided to focus on ravenous fish instead.
"Biting you..?" Her tone is skeptical as she steps up to the water's edge, peering in the water to try to see the fauna that inhabits it. "Surely there's nothing in there large enough to be a threat to a fully grown man. Perhaps it was flotsam pressing against you, you felt?" She helpfully suggests. "Really dear, if there were piranhas in the Tesiak, you would be eaten by now."

"We could tie you to a rope and find out." I mutter, checking over my person for any marks the fish may have left. This is stupid. I think for a moment, and pause.
"Could you divert the water?" I ask. "Like you did to give me an air bubble. Could you make a larger one?" Maybe there was something to the idea of walking on the bottom afterall. "Say a bubble that surrounds me, and follows me but is open on the ground so that I wouldn't float off?"

She looked back at him. "Not easily, but I can absolutely try." She nodded a bit and smiled. It'll have to cover over his head, giving him some space to work in if he manages to get to the pipe. She tilted her head and considered him. It will have to be open to the ground so he can walk. So a dome of sorts. Well, nothing ventured...She focused on creating a dome over Ikram, one strong enough to trap air and keep water out, pouring her energy into the endeavor.

She couldn't seem to get the focus right. The whole thing should be stable, not pop like wisp the moment she let it go. ··

She sighed a bit and stepped away from the water's edge, walking towards Ikram. "This...may take a minute." Really, it shouldn't be that hard. Maybe if she focused on the outline it should take first...
She wiped the sweat off her hands and renewed her focus, outlining the curve the shield should take.
Bubble 2.0! Mana: 139/179 Knowledge(+10)+Thaum II(+10)+Shielding I(+5)=25! vV1caoBY F Success?
She breathed a bit of relief as the outline started to take hold and become a malleable substance that may potentially keep water out. She checked to make sure his feet were firmly on the ground and that the 'bubble' stayed secure to the ground as he moved.
Admin Edit: Success indeed. See your pm's·

This... might actually work. More likely I'll die, but it might work before then. I nod my head. "I think this will work." I say. I look back to the river. I'm going to die now. I took a deep breath—like to be one of my last and started to step towards the edge of the river. If all went well, I'd stick to the bottom... somehow? Maybe the shield would just push the water. That was the goal. I take a step into the water hoping for anything other than a quick death.
When I find that I'm stepping once more on dry-ish land even while the river comes up to the edge of the shield I almost give a jump of joy. That would probably end all of this. I shake my head to concentrate, and begin heading to the pipe.
I attempt to discern the nature of the blockage.

Astris watches with some apprehension, watching the shield like a cat, ready to intervene if something happens. Well, at least it appears to be working. Small favors. Hopefully he can figure out what's wrong with the drain this way.
She stands at the edge of the water, watching.

And the block observed him back. It observed him with two snake-like eyes no less. Out of the tube lunged a beast that was a staple of many cruinthian meals, but not at that size. At this size the tables were turned, flipped, and on fire at the same time. It was bigger than the man that had haphazardly come towards it, looking to be dinner. It swam out of the pipe. It would be back. But the murky depths of the river hid it perfectly.

I fled, pushing as hard on the walls of the field as I could while trying to stay out of the reach of what could be easily construed as death with scales. It was coming for me, and I did not particularly feel delicious this day. I work a mad scramble up the side of the riverbed in a lunatic ascent towards the shore. Fuck this snake. I think emphatically. Fuck Sorath. I think angrily. Fuck the Tesiak I think, full of fear.

What in the world is he doing? Astris wondered as she watched him make a hasty retreat back toward shore. Maybe he found out what's causing the block. She couldn't see anything else beyond Ikram in the water.
"What is it? What did you find?" She called out as she strayed near the water's edge, her boots sinking into the sucking mud slightly.

Battle Data*River serpent's final stats are subject to change, this monster is a placeholder. Initiative Ikram River Serpent Astris
Ikram -Move -Dodge -Move
River Serpent -Move -Attack: 1D100 => 83 MISS! -Attack: 1D100 => 56 MISS!
Astris -No actions taken
The Serpent burst out from the water and lunged towards the man that dare wade into its territory, then stare it in the face, then splash around like prey. It lunged once, clamping its jaws around nothing but air. The second time it dove and lunged again, and again was met with only disappointment. Though it missed, it once again was under the cover of the fertile waters of the Tesiak. The only thing that betrayed its position from above water was a shadow that moved away from shore momentarily.
