"I know." I say, sizing up the older man. "I am here to pay a debt. I am... ah, Ikram Wylmont? I might have an account. I do not know." I do not sit.
I set the coin on the counter, gingerly. It makes a brittle and quiet sort of thud. I do not, however, take my hand off of it. "And I work for the Countess as well. I think that she will be paying my wife and I?" In truth, I had no idea how the arrangement was going to work. It had been some days, and my mind was elsewhere since the giant snake had assailed me. The entirety of Sorath, for that matter. I was thinking more about my fledgeling family.
Perhaps Astris would like a nice bottle of wine, on the way home? I thought. Then I recalled our financial situation. What could it hurt? I was distracted and it was obvious.

"Oh of course. I was to expect you. Remy Jean Marshall. The countess is something else huh? Didn't expect my liege lady to be a half-breed dark elf. We get a letter, right? Oh, my dad is our towns mayor on her land. So we get the letters and then do whatever it says. So we get this letter, and it says 'send someone that can read and write to Sorath, plus some men for guards'. So dear old dad sends me, two of my brothers, and a bunch of other guys up here. I get to run this when the countess isn't around."
Remy shrugged and pulled a piece of paper out of his pocket and held it out for Ikram. He sat down, more comfortable now that he wasn't dealing with a customer.
"Those are your cheques, forty each. Plus she wants you to keep an eye out for a Kalimbra that is supposed to be hanging around town. A Fyrra Na'Limndra person. Supposedly you can't mistake her for someone else because she has blue skin. These dark elf types are weird. She wants to contract her for some work in a private club she is setting up in Sorath. Something about getting the Kalimbra's approval as well. I don't get it myself."

I listen to the goings-on of Remy's family. It reminded me vaguely of my cousins for a moment. Regardless, to me it was rambling. I stared, and nodded when I thought polite to Remy as... as these things required. Being so attentive, one would think it easy to notice Remy's mention of the word "Kalimbra". I nodded at her mention, then furrowed my brow. Wasn't that the name of that woman we housed? I thought.
"Your Drokagr is, uh—very good... but this Kalimbra. That's... that's not her name, is it?" I ask.

"I guess the countess is alright. She doesn't belong to me though. I mean she's cute. But she's probably a thousand or something. After the prior count died with no heirs we didn't have much to go off of other than our own ambitions which weren't much. Anyway, no, Kalimbra from my understanding is a title or occupation sort of thing. A revered sort of person I think. I guess if you put it all together it's Kalimbra Fyrra Na'Limndra."
Remy said, lounging in his chair. He'd have only looked more comfortable if he had a glass of wine or liquor in his hand. He didn't really have anything else to add. Unless Ikram had more questions. He was, obviously, loquacious.

"Ah." I say. I push the coins forward. "Yes. I met Fyrra, and her companion. There was a fight, bandits in the night. I was able to kill one, while her companion killed the other. I was injured, and it was something of a long night." I scratch the back of my head. "In fact, they stayed with us overnight in our home. But they left without saying goodbye on that next morning. I haven't seen them since." I shrug my shoulders.
"I'd best be going." I say, turning around and heading towards the door.

"You have a good day."
Remy would make sure the payment got where it needed to go. The Countess' coffers. Of course he could use the funds himself, but something about the half-breed scared him a little. Maybe it was her way of knowing things before they happened. It made shivers run up and down his spine. At the same time, he was intrigued. What else could she know, could she do? Was she an extremely powerful sorceress and he didn't even know it?
So many mysteries.
Remy watched the other man depart, and entered the payment on the log.

It was not very difficult for Thrawn to find the building that the Half-Drokgar mentioned to him when he first arrived in Sorath. He made a note that night to investigate and see if they have anything that would benefit him, and after some much needed rest and relaxation, Thrawn tracked down the place.
Thrawn entered the store and took a look around, there was not much to see but he did admire the table. The Darthaki waited patiently until someone addressed him.

A young man walked in. He could have been in his late twenties or early thirties. He was obviously Cruinthian. He was well dressed in long cloth pants, black, and a lightweight cloth shirt, green. He had leather boots on with a slight heel, better for gripping stirrups as he rode about town and to other A&F Locations. It was hot that day, like every other day during the Cruinthian summer. The building was just as poorly ventilated, it was stuffy and muggy in there.
He had come through the door on the other side of the room from the entrance.
"Good day, sir. Could I assist you with something? The proprietress is not in town today."
His name was Remy, and he was more or less in charge of whatever Allyria put him in charge of. He had grown fond of his employer in the sort of way someone looks up to someone that takes care of them and builds them up. Working for a countess had its perks.

"Good day," Thrawn replied in kind. "I'm planning an expedition through old ruins and I was told this was the place to go to get the necessary gear and funding for these sorts of things."
Thrawn had heard about the old ruins near Sorath during his travels and that beneath them there were catacombs filled with monsters and riches. Thrawn felt confident that he can take the monsters, but he preffred to go into it prepared instead of swinging his axe around aimlessly in the dark,

"Oh, of course. I'm Remy Marshall. Sounds like you are looking for an Adventurers Grant. Please have a seat. I have a few questions."
Remy sat down at the table near the back of the room. He had some paper in front of him. He was able to sign over money and authorize grants within the limits the countess set for him while she was away. He straightened his shirt out and sat upright.
"Where were you going to go? And do you have any experience, Mister...?"

"Thrawn Demer," he introduced himself as he took a seat opposite of Remy.
If Thrawn could get a good amount of money he could set off to the catacombs pretty quickly. He was excited to find what hidden secrets and knowledge is buried under there.
"The catacombs beneath the old Sorath Graveyard, I've seen some action in Darthak but I've never mounted a full expedition by myself before."

"Thrawn Demer. Alright. The grant comes with a few terms. The first of those is that if any old writings or books are acquired that they turned over for study and archiving. Books are a rarity. If you are literate and interested you'll of course be given the opportunity to read its contents yourself. The second term is that if you succeed and return alive you allow us to contact you for further expeditions. If you can agree to these terms I can give you a grant up to three hundred Ritz."
Remy wrote out the terms on a piece of paper as he spoke. Then he passed it across the table to Thrawn to look at. He wasn't sure if the large man could read, but it was a formality that had to be observed. Making one's mark, agreeing to the terms. It wasn't a lot to ask for. If he found a book he could read it, but he'd have to hand it over to A & F eventually. He was prepared to write a bank cheque for three hundred ritz.

Thrawn could hardly contain his disappointment in having to return any writings he came across, although being able to read it before handing it over Thrawn would try to transcribe any important information before handing it over. The three hundred Ritz did however sooth his annoyance, with that sort of money he would be very well equipped for what lay ahead, and he did not mind being contacted for more work that suited him just fine.
The Darthaki read the paper carefully, making sure there was no hidden clause that would get him into trouble, he could not find any.
"Sounds good, how much time would I be given to study the book before handing it back over?" he asked as he signed the contract.

"The way it was explained to me, you turn the books over immediately, and you can return at any time and spend any amount of time you wish with them. That way they are safe and available for study by everyone. Sharing knowledge and education is something the countess is passionate about."
As soon as the man had signed the contract Remy filled out a cheque for 300 Ritz to be paid to this man. With that the grant was provided and Remy was only obligated to take care of any books that were returned.

Thrawn nodded in approval of the store's policy on books, that was much better than letting adventurers pawn them off to merchants or horde them.
"Thank you very much sir," Thrawn said upon receiving the cheque, he tried to remain calm even though he was excited to get going, he placed the cheque carefully in his pocket and would shake the other man's hand.
As he stood up to leave something dawned on Thrawn; he had no idea where to go to get supplies, he had only been in the city a few days and still did not know much about the local establishments.
"Do you have any recommendations on where I can buy supplies, lanterns, rations, potions, those sorts of things?"
