Shrrk moved quietly through the forest. His bow slung across his back as he slipped through the brush. He could see through the foliage that he was approaching the edge of the forest, beyond which should lay the city of Innorsford. He had comes this far to assist the Alliance and had bolstered his own courage to face the town. Standing in the shade of the last of the forest's canopy, the skaldi watched the roads of Innorsford. Gone was his confidence and with it the courage to face the people of the town. Shrrk's tail flicked with anxiety as he tried to remind himself why he came. "I can do this." he reminded himself aloud. Finally resigning to his inner voice, Shrrk stepped clear of the forest and started toward the town. He shifted his bow as he walked and checked his dagger 3 times.

Walking till he found a better path towards the town, Shrrk had to mentally tell himself to stop checking for his dagger. He glanced back at the forest after a bit and sighed as he got further and further away. He much preferred the cover of the brush to this open field.

The thunder of hooves approaching would reach Shrrk's ears easily. Perhaps he'd panic? Perhaps he'd hide and run. A cadre of Guardian corps. on patrol were heading towards him from the town of Innorsford. They would be upon him in seconds. How he'd react, was up to him. In total there were ten mounted troopers. Their horses seemed fresh, their armor gleamed in the sunlight. A burst of wind would buffet Shrrk shortly before they would arrive. Winter cold was here. It cut straight to the bone.

The sudden gust of wind first carried the scent of men in armor and the beasts they rode, then it carried the sound of hooves. Shrrk stepped sideways and froze in place. His left hand instinctively slipping behind his back and gripping his bow while the other drew an arrow. Both movements were choreographed to put and arrow on the bow as it came around, knock and fire with fluid motions bred of years of practice. Shrrk was able to override his instinct and stood with one hand gripping the bow behind his back, and the other let the arrow fall back into the quiver. He scratched his head with his free right hand as the glare from the rider's armor reached him. He stared into the flash of light, he would not flinch from these men as they approached. Straightening to his full height, he waited as they approached, standing aside the road more out of curiosity then respect. As the breeze continued, Shrrk did his best to suppress a shiver that threatened to crawl across his skin.

The riders for the most part passed him by, one of the soldiers slowed to a halt near Shrrk. He looked the Skaldi up and down. His armor gleaming, his weapon resting in his hands gently. The blue paint that had adorned some pieces of his armor was faded and flaking in some places. The faintest bit of beard could be seen coming from under the helm. Otherwise, his eyes were the only thing vaguely discernible in the daylight, as the pools of dark reflected it.
"Good day, citizen. Heading into town?"

Shrrk slowly let go of the bow and feigned an itch before bringing his hand around. he tilted his head at the rider and measured the man's word. With a bob of his head he was sure he understood. He jerked a thumb at Innorsford. "Yesss, Town." Shrrk drug out the sss. He was nervous and common was difficult enough to read let alone speak. "Looking for work." Shrrk indicated his bow over his shoulder and hoped the man understood. The big skaldi leaned away from the horse and tried not to frighten the creature. Sparing it a glance, he returned his attention to the rider. "Isss thisss a patrol?"

"Yes.. this is a patrol. Keep to the road. It's safer. They're looking for strong warriors to join the fight against tyranny in town. If you're up for that, you can join up. Was there anything else?"
The rider appeared to be wishing to continue on. His comrades were getting farther away. The horse did not seem to mind the break.

"No sssir. Thank you." Shrrk shrugs impassively and looks further down the road. He'd come for the chance to prove himself a warrior and here he was close to that realization. With a bob of his head he dismissed the conversation and moved closer to the town. He watches his surroundings closely and barely glances back at the rider who continued on to his fellows. Shrrk snuffed a few times to get the smell of horse and man from his nose.
