"So first of all you go and get yourself roasted looking for some crows, with nothing to show for it anyway like these mystical artifacts you say you're chasing. Then you go to the spectral realm, I don't even know what that is and I know it soudns more dangerous than it's worth and like a place maybe you should avoid. This time you don't come back physically hurt so much, just weakened by some screwed up shadow that took away half your physical power and potentially made you even dumber than you were before. And to boot you didn't tell me about either of these things in advance, what's going to happen if you die in one of these adventures of yours? Who's going to run this place? I'm sure as hell not doing it again. Is there anything else you'd like to tell me about before you go off and do some new stupid thing." Kevin's voice had been continually rising the whole time till eventually he'd been shouting straight into Kell's face.
"I can do magic.." Kell sheepishly said in the face of Kevin's rage, there might have been a better time maybe to bring it up but there it was on the table.
"Oh of course you can, so can I can't you see" Kevin countered, waving his hands about in a poor imitation of casting spells. It wasn't till he looked back and saw Kell still watching him that his face dropped even further. "You're not joking? Of course you're not that's the cherry on the cake really isn't it. You're a mage, you can shoot fireballs and call down lightning right? Why didn't you do it when that crow was chasing us halfway across the county? And why are you getting beaten so badly by everything seemingly?"
"Unlucky I guess? Not so much fireballs and lightning, more balls of arcane energy and protecting myself. To be honest I thought you'd figure it out when you heard about the spectral realm, you can't really get there on horseback exactly." Maybe responding how he was wasn't the best idea exactly but he'd near run out of patience, Kevin's points were valid but with the amount of crap he'd been through recently he wasn't in much of a mood for it.
"I was more listening to how you lost all of that perfectly good gear that I gave you, what does a shade need with the kind of arms and armour you were carrying? That stuff wasn't cheap nor easy to make, it's going to take time for us to replace it." Kevin seemed equally as hurt by the loss of the equipment as he was by any damage Kell had sustained from his excursions, at least it was distracting Kevin from his ire a bit.
"Well I mean we could go do that now?" Kevin was happiest when he was crafting so it was a bit of a chance to stop the lecture, hopefully it'd work. "I will be needing new armour and there's no time like the present? Maybe even this set we could make even better with what we've got around." He wasn't quite on clear ground yet but the idea had set Kevin's wheels moving a bit more.

"Maybe it's time we got this place sorted? We have the resources now to build you a proper forge in here, could be better than the makeshift set up you have." Kell quickly readjusted his line of reasoning at a slight glare from Kevin, "Not that i'm saying what you've got isn't useful, just an upgrade could be helpful is all." Kell placed his hand on the floor and drew it up, as he did so pulling a sizeable chunk of stone from his arcane pocket and having it appear in the spot, followed closely by the second. " I took the liberty of arranging material for the upgrade, all we need is your expertise now and we can make this.
Kevin spent several minutes examining the chunks of sandstone Kell had picked out from the warehouse, hopefully he'd be able to do something with it, he'd just picked out some stone because apparently forges were made of stone. Beyond that he had absolutely no clue what he was doing beyond what he was told to, and if that meant he sat there and watched the whole time then that was what he would do.
After what seemed like an age Kevin lifted the first chunk and moved it towards the forge, Kell lifted the second and followed suit, placing it next to the first. "Pass me the chisel." were the first words he'd heard in a few minutes, Kell dutifully complied and the two got on with trying to make the two chunks of raw sandstone that had been harvested in Nelara into a proper forge for Kevin to use. Why it had taken him this long to do this was a complete mystery, but at least he finally was.

The forge seemed to be working properly, it had taken most of a day but they'd managed to get it all working to Kevin's satisfaction. He had a gleam in his eye like a child with a new toy he couldn't wait to play with, and Kell was all to happy to provide materials to that end. The remainder of their wing leather was produced, as was some regular leather to bulk things up, and a few ingots of iron so that the armour could hold enchantments.
"At least now you know why I make you add iron to everything even when it's not needed" Kell chuckled.
"Huh?"
"Iron holds enchantments, I can improve the armour further by making it tougher or less cumbersome or whatever other effects are within my power."
"Ah, alright." Kevin was only half listening, he was still nearly completely taken by his new forge, it registered to him somewhere but it wasn't a large concern for him currently. He was instead ensuring the forge was at the right temperature and his tools were ready, he was probably looking forward to this far more than Kell and he was the one that would actually be getting the finished result. Kell shook his head before rolling up his sleeves and passing the first ingot to Kevin, there was a lot of work to be done.

The armour all came out perfectly the first time. For the most part Kevin had done it but he'd helped out where he could in handing tools and doing a small bit of sewing. THe armour had come out as intended, primarily leather but with some iron to reinforce weak points. It would hopefully give him enough freedom to move easily yet not die. It seemed stronger even than what he'd previously worn, maybe that was something good to have come from the ordeal. Now at least he was better equipped than he had been, although his lack of magical defence still left a glaring hole in his armour. He could deal with that later with a few enchantments though hopefully, for now he was just going to have to stay away from mages, and crows capable of throwing fireballs at him.
For now however they still had a few bits to focus on, namely he needed another ring. That and an actual weapon, as potent as his magic seemed to be it would be much better to have a proper weapon in hand, something reliable, his wellspring energy could run out and then he'd be dead in under a minute without a weapon. Unfortunately weapons were not his forte, that was to say he had no idea how to use any weapon really beyond the basics of aim it at someone and swing or stab. A sword seemed the most basic option that he wouldn't be able to screw up so badly, but surer a blunt weapon would be even simpler as then he wouldn't have to worry about cutting angles and the like. "Could I maybe have a warhammer of some sort as well as a sword this time? Something to turn to if times get rough and a bit more strength is needed." Kevin considered the request before nodding and placing the first pieces of metal into the fire.

"A bow? The last one was a beautiful piece of equipment but I never got to fire it, this one hopefully I'll get a chance to use." Kevin looked a bit upset at the idea that they move onto a craft that didn't require the forge, although the promise of adding in a small bit of iron to the bow so that it would hold enchantment did slightly brighten him up. It seemed unnecessary to use a forge in order to shape a small piece of iron to go onto a bow but he did so anyway, he really was a bit like a child with a new toy, despite his grumbling of how his old forge would have done the job just as well.
"Let's get it going. I'll carve the limbs from Ebony and we'll have the grip and rest from metal so you can work you're magic crap on it." He seemed quite uncomfortable at the mention of magic, which was understandable but did bother Kell slightly still.

"Do you mind if I begin the artificing process? It makes sense to me that if I can't be to helpful now that all of the actual making is done that I begin on the work I can do." Kell questionned, he knew that Kevin was quite uncomfortable with the idea of magic so had thought it better to ask first than simply begin to work.
"I'd rather you kept all that magical crap away from me, I want no part of it. What you do is fine by you just I'll have none of it myself nor in my forge."
"I understand, I'll happily take it to the manor to work it's no problem." Kell shook hands with the smith, feeling that things had become slightly more frayed between the two of them, and gathered up the latest crafts to take back to his own manor where he could begin work properly on them.

Once again Kell found himself in his own manor with the various pieces of armour and weapons on the floor in front of him, with himself sat cross legged on a pillow facing them. It was becoming quite a familiar place for him to utilise his power purely because it worked for him, it allowed him relative privacy where no one would be able to see him working nor come in and disturb him, and the fact it wasn't to uncomfortable did help.
For the enchantments this time he wasn't going to go too far off track, he had no inclination to experiment with anything more powerful nor more complex than what he had before. That and seeing as his own abilities had been lessened from his encounter with the shade he didn't have the capability anymore to create anything much more powerful than what he'd already possessed. For now he was just going to go once again with some simple shielding once again. He hadn't yet found how to shield magically and so would have to forego it, not that magic was such a common thing that he'd encounter it again, if he was lucky then he should manage to stay away from opponents who could also utilise wellspring energy and stick to those who would only try to physically assault him.
The helmet though he was planning to do the same as last time in that he hoped to use it to attract more wellspring energy towards him to be absorbed into his own pool, if it worked right again then he'd be able to passively gain back some of his used energy and go that little bit longer before he ran dry.

The helmet had a bit of trouble, the enchantment didn't stick on the first attempt, it seemed infact that by trying and failing to place wellspring energy into the helmet had instead rendered it inert. How exactly that happened was beyond his knowledge, maybe it was the saturation of useless wellspring energy that had overloaded the metals capacity. Whatever it was that caused it, the end result was simply that it wasn't going to hold an enchantment anymore. That sucked, he didn't have any wing leather left to make a new one either.
Next up to the block was the chestpiece, once again he was just going to put the same enchantment as he'd had on his armour previously. Although he'd never had a chance to actually check if it worked it seemed as if it would be useful to help him keep his feet.

The chestplate took easily enough, maybe it was something to do with how the iron was placed. That was unlikely as it wouldn't really effect it's ability to hold wellspring energy, although maybe with a thinner piece the energy would saturate easier. It was something he would have to test in order to get a true answer, and right now he wasn't interested in testing it.
The gauntlets, Legs and Belt armour pieces were all getting a shielding boost for his whole set so he figured just doing them in quick succession would be easier, after all they were just the same enchantment put on different pieces of armour

It helped him build up his confidence in his power once more. After the shock of having lost so much to the shade it was good to know that he was still capable of doing what he had before, now he just had to manage it once again with his new weaponry and the new rings that he had obtained.

Kell stood up and gathered up the new weaponry. A warhammer and a sword, the rings also he picked up and brought back to where he'd been sitting on his pillow. It was a bit old and he probably should have gotten a new one, but it was comfortable enough and so he was fine with it for now, who cared if it didn't quite fit the lordly aesthetic that Kevin believed he should have.
The warhammer was a new attempt. It seemed as if it should be easier to use than a sword, with a sword you could just swing in the general direction and hope for the best, but in order to use it right you had to have your cutting angle correctly lined up with a target. Kell didn't have it in him to be much good with weaponry, but if he could sort his magic out then he wouldn't need it hopefully, there would be situations when he'd need a weapon and a good old simple warhammer seemed the best bet. The beautiful thing about a hammer was that you simply aimed it at the target and let the weight of it do the work for you, no need to worry about a correct cutting angle or anything of the like.
It was going to be a bit of an experiment here. Not much of one considering it was something that he had used before, but this time he was going with a more complex version. The hope was that with the addition of this enchantment, when the hammer was swung with enough force it would not only hurt the target but also throw off people that were to close, so far his few monster encounters had been in low numbers but a swarm of lesser creatures could sometimes be no less deadly than one tougher creature. This way if he were to be so heavily outnumbered then he could at least disorient some of the ones he couldn't directly deal with at a time.

He wasn't willing to try it within the confines of his own house but he'd felt the energy go in, and as far as he was concerned it seemed as if it had worked properly. It was something he couldn't really test as he was now, once he was done he'd go out and test it all but other than that for now he just set it down very gently, careful not to hit it to hard on the floor and accidentally trigger the effect.
For his longsword he'd opted for something a bit more simple, just a slight bit of added damage, nothing fancy just a simple boost to the damage it could output, this part being able to go through regular armour however as if it wasn't there at all which was good.

Once again it seemed to have came out fine, but with this one he had no way of actually testing it without physically being able to hit something, and he had nothing about that he cared so little about that he was happy to completely ruin it just to test out his sword.
All that was left now were the two rings, and they were simply having more wellspring enhancing enchantments on them, he'd forgotten how much wellspring energy his pocket would drain over a longer period of time when he wasn't supplimenting his energies so was looking to remedy that as quickly as possible.

Now there was just the last ring to go. The fatigue always crept up on him after a long day of crafting and then artificing, it was then that he hit the wall and wondered if it were even possible for him to do anymore. He needed however to surpass this wall, it was the last piece left and it was only a small ring that he was putting an enchantment on that he'd done more times nearly than any other now. Surely he had the energy in him for this one last expenditure of effort before fatigue took him. If not then he'd have to do it tomorrow, and why put it off till tomorrow where he'd drain himself so early in the day when he could do it now before he was going to be going to sleep most likely after this anyway.
Kell looked at the ring and willed it to take an enchantment with no energy required. When no god or greater being decided that would they'd do it for him or something similar Kell picked up the ring and placed it on his lap to begin the work himself.

The half-Drokagr let out a long sigh of relief, now he was finally done with all of the artificing. He had a brand new set of armour, a brand new sword, a new warhammer, a new bow....A new bow. He'd forgotten the bow. Of course he had. Kell's head slumped into his lap as he realised he still had in fact left out the bow, how could he forget the bow when it was likely the most beautiful piece that had been made that day. It would also likely be the most useful, he had no wish to get up close and personal in combat. How he had forgotten it was beyond him but if he wasn't already too sluggish to do so he'd likely smack his head against a wall.
He'd just do the same as the warhammer. It would be effective still for sure, fire an arrow into a clump of monsters, watch one die and the others be knocked about and disorientated. It would work fine and he had no mind to come up with something new now.

Kell awoke suddenly, his sleep had been less than satisfying and a nightmare had been the thing to eventually wake him. Reaching up to rub his head it was only then he remembered the lack of hair on it, or for that matter unruined skin. The crows still haunted his dreams, and were only slightly less of a worry during daylight. They'd proven they could appear seemingly where they pleased, he had no plans of losing to them a third time, next time he encountered the blackrock horrors he would be the winner. Of that he was confident. He just had to make the right preperations and seek them out on his ground rather than letting them ambush him again.
Today however the crows were not a primary concern. He'd been to Kel'alee and seen the fantastic mounts that they offered, each able to travel far more miles in a day than he was capable of covering on foot. That and a wolf or land drake could both hold their own should it be needed. It was so tiresome to walk so far by himself for several days, especially when mounted he could make the journey in one or two only, it wasn't as if he was lacking in coin he had enough to buy himself a mount.
It wasn't until a few hours later once he'd properly dressed and washed himself for the day that he posed this idea to Kevin. "It would make travel so much easier if I had something to ride. Preferably something that will be able to defend itself. In Kel'alee they sell wolves and land drakes but to get there will take more than a few days. Are there any horses locally or anything else that can be ridden?" Kevin seemed to have to think it through. Presumably if there were any horses locally Kevin would have already suggested it, or rather he'd have hoped Kevin would have mentionned it considering how much travelling he knew Kell had done. "Could always ask the farmers? They've domesticated a few animals so might have something big enough for you to ride. I'd doubt it though. Go and ask them." It wasn't a fantastic answer, it was likely that anything the farmers had would either be in use or far to small for him to ride properly. It was worth the try surely though and so Kell packed together some supplies, "I'll be back late today or tomorrow, depending on how the travel goes."

It wasn't an overly difficulty journey for him to get to the farms, he just had to walk south until he reached the edge of the forest and then keep going south till he could see the farms. It took him most of the day to get there for no reason other than the distance, the forest provided very little hindrance and at least kept the majority of the sun off of him and his body cool. Without the cover of the forest he'd likely have roasted by now, the fur cloak he'd taken from his warehouse was unnecessarily warm, yet it would hopefully serve it's purpose of making him look more important. If it would help him get the answers he needed then he'd submit himself to wearing uncomfortably warm clothing.
Once he did get to the farm he quickly asked around until he got to the man in charge. While technically this man was one of his own employees he didn't know it, so he likely wouldn't be too open to Kell just demanding to know what he was looking for. Instead he approached the man and reached an arm out as if to shake his hand. "I've come because I've heard you might be able to help me in getting something to ride. I've heard that in your farms you sometimes domesticate animals to work for you? I was wondering if you might be willing to share how you tame and train the beasts? And if you have anything large enough for me to ride that would also be appreciated. Of course i'd compensate you for sharing this information and also if you do have something I could ride."
Hopefully they'd be able to help him out, if not with a mount then with some training on how to get one of his own.

The old man was cranky, hateful, and not exactly happy that someone he didn't know came onto his worksite demanding things. The most they domesticated here were chickens anyway. Who rides a chicken into battle? No one. Squirrels maybe. Who knows. This wasn't something Ol' Clyde knew or cared about. He just wanted to get this Drokagr off his property and get back to work.

Visiting the farms had certainly not gone to plan. The racist old farmers were not at all happy at his visit and certainly hadn't treated him all that well. He was of half a mind to speak back to the farmer but was reluctant to cause trouble with his citizens, whether they knew they were his citizens or not. Instead he just bore the insults as they were given and offered a polite nod to the farmer before turning and leaving to head back to his own manor.
It seemed that the idea of getting himself any sort of mount animal was out of the question for now unless he was willing to go to Kel'alee to buy one. Either that or see where there was another stables, although from what he understood Kel'alee was the only place to sell the more exotic mounts. For now he'd just have to settle for something a bit more normal it seemed or at least moderately exotic like a wolf or land drake, neither were ideal now that he had his heart set on something else but they'd definitely suffice as a mount for now. It was more a question of him getting one than anything else as he had no desire nor need to travel all the way to Kel'alee to gain himself something to ride, it was a long way to go for simply this one purchase even if it could potentially turn out to be useful in the end.
For now at least he was more looking forward to a clean bath when he got back and a change of clothes, he'd travelled a fair bit and definitely wasn't as fresh as when he'd started out, unfortunately it had been for nothing but he'd known this was a potential outcome from the get go so it hadn't hit as hard.

When morning broke Kell was already awake. His sleep had been relatively short, he'd always had trouble sleeping but today it seemed to have come in force and so he'd barely slept at all. Still he was functioning well enough, one day of very little sleep wouldn't impact him to badly surely and he could always make up the sleep debt tomorrow or another day.
The morning found Kell at work practising, he'd not had as much time as he would have liked recently in order to practise his magecraft, and so now while he couldn't sleep anyway he thought why not dedicate some more of his time to the art. He'd recovered a lot of what the spectre had taken from him through hard work and practice but still certain areas were weaker than they were before. If it had been something less necessary then maybe there wouldn't be so much of an issue, but his ability to create shields seemed to have diminished to a point he could not allow. Especially considering the fact that his main method of survival currently was shielding himself from harm with magic.
Kell took a deep breath and sat in the middle of the lounging room that he seemed to do most of his work in now. It was a quiet and calm place so worked well to help him focus. Stretching his arms out in front of him Kell attempted to manifest his power into a line that he would then slowly broaden out to form a shield, not dissimilar to the exercise he'd run through so long ago to test his power.

Once the first shield had been formed Kell cut the flow of Wellspring energy to it and allowed it to dissipate, placing his right arm over his left instead and circling it.
