After visiting the ring market to acquire better armor for Merrake, Fyrra and her bodyguard continued around the market to see what else they could use for whatever adventures lie in their path ahead. She had a feeling that the Initiative wouldn't be coming back for her in any due time. It had been a month. They'd have sent someone by now if they were worried about her. Obviously living it up in Sorath put out the vibe that she was fine, and that Merrake was fine, and that there was no need to worry.
She missed home though. But there was plenty of stuff to explore here in the city. She had never been all the way around the ring market. Most of it was things she found useless, household items, sorathi-style clothing. That sort of thing. She had no interest in any of that. What she really wanted to see was someone that sold fine clothing, or maybe a bookstore or potion shop. Those are the things that interested her.
The ring market was a wide street, in a complete circle in the town. If she kept walking, eventually she'd end up back at the Serpent's Head Inn, where she had been staying recently. Not wishing to be a burden on any of her friends.

Letrune was hungry and afraid. She tried to move but people watched her and it made her unable to really move elsewhere but in the shadows... Until she could steal a bag and tear it to cover her head. The problem is that she has to find something edible.
Oppurtunity strikes when she sees some stand before a butcher's shop, with meat. Sausages, bacon, cut cow and swine and chicken, roasted... A bit of a heaven. She sneaks behind the barrels and start to eat by the haldful. ... Then the butcher and she look into each other's eyes. A small, forced smile later the sobbing and wailing Letrune launches herself from the stand, onto the street, the butcher shouting obscenities and trying to stop her...

Now coming Fyrra's way was a man wielding a carving knife, shouting obscenities at a person that was running away. Presumably for theft of the butcher's goods. The scene was terrifying, she thought that the butcher was going to murder the poor girl for whatever wrong that was done to him. A million thoughts ran through the half-Drokagr's mind. What if the person was just trying to feed herself, or her family? What if she hadn't eaten in a long time. The butcher could stand to spare a few pieces of food. It wasn't like his profits would miss it.
Before Merrake could get in front of her, Fyrra got in front of the girl and the butcher with her arms stretched out and her eyes shut wide, she shouted as loud as she could.
"Stooooop!"
Merrake moved to intercept the Kalimbra, trying to protect her from the runaway butcher train. She first damned herself, and then damned her charge for being reckless.

Letrune crashes right into her saviour Fyrra, losing her "hat" in the process and revealing her more.... Inhuman bits. Letrune tries to sneak off... And can not as everyone watches them. No way she can sneak off... She puts herself behind the grey-ish woman and tries to absolutely fade away - which is impossible, so she looks very silly on the middle of the free space between people.
The butcher moves his way, the stand attended by the assistants whom look for the attraction. Actually, half the market seems curious now. "Stop that thing! It ate mine best meat! Guards! Ruined mah stock! You know how much it costs?" He shouts, not to Fyrra but to their audience in general. He actually stops when she yells at him, with an uneasy expression. "If that an'mal is yer animal...." he starts but stops. "Listen. I ain't want any problems. I got customers to serve... But at least make that thing pay for what it ate." His lands just dangle next to him, seems like he does not wants to commit anything but took the meatcarver with him when the chase started.
Meanwhile, Letrune starts to dispose some evidence, by eating a few sausages she hid in her torn tunic. Amazing, how much it feels... Bad. She feels bad but she is too hungry to think straight.

There was a lot of noise, and then a lot of silence immediately after. Fyrra got bowled into, Merrake out of reactive instinct drew her axe and shouted in Drokagr. People paused. Things were about to get strangely violent. Violent out of nowhere. Fyrra was lying flat on the ground, not particularly sure what to do with herself in her dazed and confused state. As she slowly pieced things together, the bodyguard moved towards the strange person with inhuman bits. There was no tolerance for the taboo. There was nothing to stop the bodyguard now. "Kalimbra Na'Drakka!"Fyrra's honor had to be restored in Merrake's eyes, and in the process her own. For that to happen, the strange person had to die. On the spot. Merrake didn't even know if Fyrra was alive. She assumed she was though, it was a simple tackle. It would be rare for someone to get seriously injured from that. As the creature cowered behind Fyrra, who was on the ground now, Merrake took a swing at the thing's head. She ignored the butcher. He wasn't important. A true crime had been committed here. It needed to be fixed. A petty theft was nothing. Merrake Av'Manait-HP: 300/300 -Stm: 29/39 -10 -5 -MP: 110/110 Actions: -Attack Letrune, Aiming for the back of the head.: Dmg: 22 (Hand Axe)

People just stand aside to watch. The butcher calls dibs on the thief. They wait to see the spectacle. Letrune still munches her food as Fyrra flops down.. Then tries to wake her up, innocently rubbing her snout to Fyrra's shoulders. When the axe raises close to her, she turns there and looks on the weapon, not understanding it. But it looks bad... her legs move, to avoid the attack by rolling aside, but is it enough?

Battle Data Initiative Merrake Letrune
Merrake (Hit Threshold: 52.5 ^53) -Axe Strike @ Letrune (Head) 1D100 => 94 MISS
Letrune -Dodge
Results -Merrake's attack misses.
Merrake's swing went wide. The crowd gasps, someone screams. The clanking of metal begins to occur as guards start to rush towards the scene. The sound was far off however, there weren't any in this part of the market. It would take them quite a while to arrive. In the mean time, no civilians got involved. Instead, they proceeded to distance themselves from the situation happening around the Drokagr women, and the inhuman experiment. Someone started a call out for bets, others left the area, fleeing the impending violence. Turns until Guards arrive:1D10 => 8

The hybrid creature managed to dodge the bodyguard's assault. That was unacceptable for Merrake. Mercilessly, she pursued the Kalimbra's attacker, swinging her axe and following her foe's movement. This time the strike was aimed to just strike the person in any place possible. She was not trying to underestimate them now, they managed to get away from the first attack based on sheer reflexes it seemed.
Fyrra in the meantime attempted to set herself right. She picked herself up from the ground and checked herself over. She wasn't sure what to do, she wasn't sure what had happened after the person had slammed into her. She assumed they were dead. That Merrake killed them for the obvious crime. The Kalimbra's eyes followed the crowd's to what was happening behind her, she backed up looking to give her bodyguard some room.
To stop it or not? There was a crime committed, the thing had to die. That was Korasuan law, that was what was expected. But they were visitors here. She had hoped that it would not be like this. She had expected that if she were to be touched unwillingly it would be a cutthroat brigand, not some inhuman thing.
Things were happening too fast for her brain to catch up and make a decision. Only she could call Merrake off.

Letrune does not understands it at all. The... Creature tries to... Very badly hurt her? She guesses. Not even that, she just decides to make a run for it. A tiny bit in her brain questions it - why is she even chased? Did she did something bad? It is not about the food, this woman didn't cared. She does not connects the dots nor manages to think on the idea of a bodyguard. The best she can do is trying to run away in a zigzagged, ra dom line, towards the least resistance.

Battle Data Initiative Merrake Letrune
Merrake (Hit Threshold: 52.5 ^53) -Move -Axe Strike @ Letrune 1D100 => 11 1D15 => 3 (Neck, Instant Incapacitation) -Axe Strike @ Letrune 1D100 => 44 1D15 => 7 (Back) [Negated]
Letrune -Negated turn.
Results -Merrake's first strike hits Letrune in the neck.
If Fyrra was going to stop Merrake from killing the hybrid beast-girl, it was too late. Merrake first wild swing with the axe after catching up to Letrune found the Hybrid. The blade buried in the experiment's neck. Blood gushed out of the wound, and the creature would collapse on the ground, unconscious and for all the crowd to see. Everyone would believe the strange creature was dead. Someone screamed. The guards were still off a ways, they wouldn't be able to respond in time to arrest anyone if the Drokagr fled the scene. "Oh crap! That gray woman killed that thing!" "What the hells is that anyway?"The townsfolk were scared, generally. No one with any authority was around to tell them what had happened. To help them navigate the situation.
Letrune has been incapacitated and removed from the thread. Fyrra gains 2 stat points. Turns until guards arrive: 1 (reduced due to battle over)

What a damn mess.
As soon as Fyrra came to her senses, Merrake practically buried her axe in the things neck. Blood was everywhere, there was screaming. Fyrra screamed a little. She rushed to the side of her companion. Pulling her away from the scene while talking. Trying to sooth Merrake's anger and fear. She had done her duty, it was over. Now it was time to deal with the authorities. They were on their way, Fyrra was sure of it. It was only a matter of time.
"I'm alive. Merrake, I'm alive."
"Kalimbra! Good... I killed it. It touched you. What under Azuloth's watchful gaze is this thing? SOme kind of monster...?"
"I don't know. Looks like a cat and a human intermixed. Some kind of magic did that."
"What do we do with all these people?"
"Don't know. Don't care. Let's just wait for the guards to arrive ok?"
"Sure sure. You'll explain to them what happened? You're better at people."
Fyrra idled next to Merrake as the warrior cleaned her axe off on the things clothing. What clothing it had anyway. It utterly befuddled her.

The guards arrived in that moment. They were ready to make arrests, crack skulls, and definitely rob whoever was responsible for whatever ruckus was happening. The pair of SKC footmen that arrived were, however, surprised by what they saw. Mostly the thing lying on the ground with a neck wound. The two women standing near it weren't so surprising. Drokagr were a violent sort of people, from what they understood. The women were violent anyway, they had to be to exact dominion over their men. The two soldiers approached the area. One started to address the women, the other looked over the thing on the ground.
"You both speak Cruic don't you? What happened here?"
"I think this thing... whatever the fuck it is... is dead."
"Yeah. Obviously. So your names are?"
"I think we should take the body back to base. Have one of the mage hunters look it over. Looks unnatural."
"Duh. And why did you kill the thing?"

That was quick. The guards arrived shortly after Merrake had attacked the experiment and killed it. Fyrra was standing there and listening to the guards go back and forth with each other. She didn't answer any questions until they were done, she wasn't sure what the protocol was. When the guard was finished she cleared her throat and spoke as clearly and accent-free as she could. Still, her accent was what it was. It was hard to hide a Korasuan accent in the Cruic language.
"Yes, uhm. We do speak Cruic. The thing there, came running at me after running away from a.. butcher. He was chasing it. I think it stole food from its shop. Anyway, she is Merrake Av'Manait, my bodyguard. I am Kalimbra Fyrra Na'Limndra. The creature ran into me, and as my bodyguard's sworn duty dictates, she killed it for touching me."
Fyrra stood there hoping it was over now. Hoping that the guards wouldn't question her more. She didn't honestly know anything else beyond what she had said. She also didn't know if she had actually committed a crime, or if Merrake had committed a crime. The status of the thing on the ground near them was... questionable. Was it a citizen? What was it anyway.
"Um... I think that was made with magic."
Fyrra volunteered, not sure if it would help. She indicated the hybrid on the ground with her pointer finger.

"Yeah. Alright. You two can go. But if we catch you with another body in a situation like this, you'll have to come with us next time. Pack that thing up in a body bag, let's take it back to the castle. See what Palejaw can make of it."
"Palejaw? Alright, let's get this over with."
"Yeah, Palejaw. His field of expertise. Keep your gray noses clean, hear me? I've got no problem stringing up a couple of Dro' bitches."
The footman gestured at them to leave while he helped his comrade pick up the body of the experiment (@letrune ) and carry it off towards the castle.
Several days later the creature would be alive once again with no memory of what happened whatsoever, back on the streets of Sorath. This time however there would be a brand of sorts on its belly. A magical rune that tracked its location. Whatever mage put it on there clearly had no intentions of letting the experiment be free.
Closing thread.
