Innorsford Town Square, -Noon
Vilkan Justea sat on the curb, surrounded by Republican Guards. Men and women he didn't believe were even necessary. Who would want to kill him other than his dear Cousin Avaline ver'Justea. She believed she was heir to the throne of Cruinthe. There was one thing he agreed with her about. Julgrava had to go. His reign was a blight upon the land. Her method, however, was not something he could agree on. Violence wasn't the answer. The people had a will. They should exercise it by ceasing to follow the sorcerer-king.
"Chairman Vilkan, it's time. The whole town is here."
"Thank you, Arthur. I'll start now."
The young platinum blond man went over to the dry fountain and climbed atop it. His guards surrounded him.
"People of Innorsford, people of Cruinthe! For too long have you buckled and broke under the terrifying rule of the Sorcerer-King Julgrava! For too long has his mage hunters kidnapped your children and forced them to kill for him. For too long has he robbed your towns and villages! It is time you take your government into your own hands! It is time to be independent from Tyranny! It is time to form a republic, by and for the people. We will begin here with the Province of Innorsford. The local governor has been missing, and while the so called Royal Justean Guard take control of poorly defended province after province with violence, it becomes more and more apparent that the leaders of this country don't give a damn about you. It is time to take back control before everything spirals into chaos once again. We will fight if we have to! But first we will talk, and we will cast a vote. We will show everyone that our way is the better path."
After his speech the young man stepped down. Arthur patted him on the back. The people were cheering, chanting the word 'Republic'. They stormed Innorsford's tower. The current SKC footmen did nothing, they simply defected. They were tired of fighting and killing for no reason.

Blending into a crowd was hard sometimes, especially when you're a rich noble dude amidst a group of people clamoring for democracy and the fall of those appointed to power without their approval. It was an...awkward situation to be in considering he'd inherited power from his family. As far as he could tell that inheritance went back hundreds of years, if not thousands, with the people simply submitting to it. The great houses were known, even with history having been erased. Suffice to say he was wearing very simple clothes and staying quiet. The only identifiable thing on him was the signet ring on his left hand, carefully concealed by his right hand.
The Duke smiled throughout the short speech, if nothing else the people here seemed to be in relatively good hands. The other factions vying for control of the country were speaking through violent actions, the Republic had started off trying to make sure the people of Innorsford could survive on their own. That was why Tyr was even here, he'd returned from his trip to Kel'Alee with the good news that a trade agreement had been secured for the people. After the speaker stepped down Tyr moved away from the crowd, walking slowly and calmly towards the speaker and his guards. With his hands in plain view Tyr approached and spoke to guard closest to him.
"I wish to meet your leader face to face. I am Duke Tyr Mardok. You are free to search me for weapons if you need to."

The Glaive Trooper that Tyr approached nodded and patted him down looking for weapons. Duke or not, a potential threat was a potential threat. When he was satisfied he waved the man through. Vilkan was talking with an advisor at the time. The advisor was giving a report on the situation in the province.
"A lot of the local troops are defecting. Some are deserting. There hasn't been any resistance so far. The surrounding counties are more or less without leadership as well. They're rife with bandits and mercenary bands."
Vilkan looked thoughtful for a moment.
"We will have to do something about that. Having the Guardian corps. sweep throug won't do much other than kill a lot of people. We need to establish leaders out in that territory or we'll just have more issues."
"Sir, Duke Mardok is here to see you."
"A duke? Isn't he one of the two dukes that helped us secure our relationship with kel'alee?"
"Yes, he is. Greetings Duke Mardok. I am Chairman Vilkan Justea. What can I do for you?"

Tyr looked the lad up and down, trying to get any sort of feel for who Vilkan really was. He looked young, almost too young to be trying to rebel against the government. Maybe that was better though, he would bring a young man's ideals to the world he lived in. He'd been going about it the right way already, trying the diplomatic route first.
-"The moons cross on us."- It'd been so long since he spoke the Justean language. It was a difficult thing to grasp sometimes, finding the right meanings was tricky. The Duke viewed it as a properly formal greeting however, especially considering this was, probably, a Justean in front of him. In case the others didn't speak the language however Tyr switched back to regular Cruic.
"It is good to meet you Chairman Vilkan. I came to learn of the man leading the Republic I'd been helping. Strange as it may be, my title and power being ancestral in nature, I can appreciate the ideals you lead with. I wonder though how you will take control of those provinces that the Royal Guard and Kingdom control. You do not seem eager to fight."

The nearest glaive trooper looked confused by what the duke said. He looked to his pal, and he shrugged.
"What the fuck?"
"No idea. Something about moons?"
-"As sparrows flit tree by tree."- Vilkan cleared his throat. "I appreciate your support. Honestly, the kingdom and royal guard are tending towards violence. I'd rather not, but the Guardian Corps. has been formed with the idea in mind that we might need to protect ourselves. The idea is to enter each provincial capitol and start building support within the civilian populations. A ruler can't rule a people that don't let him rule them. People will see what we have here, and they will want that too. That is the plan."
Vilkan's plan was crazy in this sort of world. It was almost like there was no plan to combat the Royal Justean Guard or the Sovereign Kingdom of Cruinthe. Or the Empire for that matter. What was Vilkan going to do when the empire rolled in with its troops, killing every human they find?

"Using force for protection is good but it leaves you little choice if the people do not completely support you. If you cannot win over the entire country, will you secede from it with those who will follow you?" The division could create some serious issues depending on specifically which areas followed him. The more that did the harder it would be for anyone else to seriously challenge him. Sure they could have a greater military force, but if he controlled the agriculture, trade, and economy in general they would have a hard road ahead of them indeed. After that they might lose control anyway as the people saw what Vilkan had and wanted their own piece of it. It was an attractive idea, but it remained to be seen how well it was put into action.

"You pose an interesting question, Duke Mardok. But I am not the man to be asking that. If it comes to that we'll ask the people what they want to do. There will be a vote cast, and whatever is decided by the vote is what we shall do. If that means seceding from the rest of the country, fine. If it means going to war with them, though it would pain me to do so, then that is the will of the people. If it means our movement gets snuffed out by violence then so be it. I know we are doing the right thing. The people deserve to be able to decided for themselves what their future will be. Whatever that future is."
Vilkan had looked thoughtful for a moment before answering the Duke's question. He had worked it over in his head, making sure that he didn't misstep. There was a balancing act at play here. He could say what he wanted to do, or what he would have done if the time came that a decision had to be made about it. But he didn't want that kind of power. He just wanted the power to do what the people wanted. He wanted to serve, and serve them well. That was all. Vilkan was not so naive. He knew how the world worked. If the Royal Justean Guard saw him as a threat they'd try to eliminate him again. If the crown saw him as a threat they'd try the same thing. So far he took comfort in the fact that the Republic of Cruinthe has remained unharrassed.
"For now, we'll be using Innorsford as our base of operations. We have the majority of the people's support here, thanks to your efforts. It is a shame Duke Karligar couldn't be here today."

The Duke nodded as Vilkan explained his plan of action. Through and through a man of the people it seemed, he wouldn't even take control of the country to defend it unless the people wanted that. It was admirable in a way, even if Tyr saw it as a bit potentially dangerous. The people had little experience as a governing body, it seemed likely they would take whatever option seemed most immediately effective in all situations. Also as likely was the possibility of them being led astray by rogue voices powerful enough to convince them. Vilkan wasn't the only person capable of drawing a crowd.
Then again, everything could also go perfectly. While home to many powerful individuals, Cruinthe held one of the hardiest groups of humanity ever known. Given some of the toughest situations they could still surprise you. The city itself was a great example, after having their land rendered almost completely unlivable the people decided the Empire could go suck on their thumbs and stayed put anyway. They'd needed some help along the way, sure, but they were still there and still very much living.
"I am glad to have been of service to the people." The Duke gave a very formal half-bow, measuring it to the point that it showed neither subservience nor superiority. "If I may be of service again, you have only to let me know." It was about as much of a conclusion to their meeting as he could provide, informal as it had been. Tyr was left with quite a bit to plan for. If he intended to fully support the Republic then he'd have to make sure his own people followed him of their will as well. Even with the work he'd done to bring prosperity to his people, who knew which way their support would go?
(Tyr out.)
