Arkaegis didn't lower his hood as he crossed the tavern floor, boisterous clamor all around him. Drunks and slightly less drunk drunks speaking as they do, in overly exuberant volumes. He smiled as he passed two men shooting the shit...
"I tell ya Mathias! Her hind quarter's was as ripe and voluptuous as them noble's purses! Just two big pillowy things! I've ploughed her all day if it where not for her da..." The story teller in all his bluster faded against the rest of the commotion in the tavern.
Though he didn't trust people and hated traveling with others, Ark had a penchant for being surrounded by strangers. Some how it comforted him to be in a big crowd. Finally arriving at the bar, he sat in an open stool and waited to be noticed by the bar maid.
"Aye! ye cheating bast'rd! Ya think I didn't notice you slip that dice up ya sleeve? Give me ma share back and I won't gut ya like the rott'n fish ya are!" Ark peered back a moment at the nearest patrons who'd been playing a game of dice. One man had the other player by the collar of his tunic, his fist up to the mans throat pulling him bent over their table. All red faced and shouting spittle with his gruff words.
"N-no! I dun cheat mister! I-I'm not try'n to swindle ya none! H-honest I w-wou-"
"EY! There'll be none of that in me tavern! Take that outside or I'll bring the city guard down on ye!" The bar maid, though a little thing, shouted above most of the noise in the hall. The accuser of the two growled and shoved the other man back in to his chair.
"Go eat Skaldi shit, and get out of me face afore I change me mind... Fucking weasel..."
Ark scoffed and turned his attention back to the bar, only to find the bar maid was now focused on him.
"Ey, tall dark and shady. you going to order a drink? or not?"
Smirking, he nodded and lifted his hood from his head. "An ale, or stout, the freshest please. Oh, and put it in the biggest glass ya 'ave Darlin'."
"It'll be extra if ya want me to crack a new barrel..."
"I don't mind darlin', I'll pay a little more if I have to. Been on the road a little too long, and needing a little luxury..." He winked at her as he smiled broadly.
"Aight, I'll get you yer ale. But do me a favor. Stop calling me darlin', I'm no strumpet." The bar maid scoffed and left into the back to fetch his drink.
Arkaegis grinned over her quip, and leaned forward to rest his elbows on the bar. Finally, a chance to unwind.

Ausoris 24th, 200ATD
Allyria was just stopping by for a quick bracer before heading out for a little bit of monster hunting. It was close to the end of Ausoris. Business was picking up, and she needed a new location to plunder. Some kind of ruin, or dark deep dungeon of some kind. Something to give the Wylmonts something to do. A scouting mission was required for those purposes. But first, a drink, a meal, then setting out.
She strode in through the worst crowd she had seen in the Serpent's Head in a while. Maybe there was some kind of tournament coming or something. She had no idea.
The half-breed was dressed in her Scarlet get up. Hard leather armor covering most of her. Rough leather gloves that left holes for her finger tips. Her Dungeon Rushers were a magical pair of thigh high armored leather boots. Flexible, strong. Gustshade was an overlapping system of hardened leather that worked to protect her torso and shoulders. Her cloak was dyed a deep red. Hanging from her neck was a complicated looking silver amulet. She had a sword hanging from her left hip, and a wicked scythe on her back.
She set her backpack down next to a chair, and sat down at a table.
"What can I get you Countess?"
"I'll have a Light Alpine Ale. That's it for now."
"Of course."
Moments later a light brown bottle was placed in front of her. Allyria passed two cor to the girl. She pulled down the metal plate that covered her mouth to take a drink. The iron had been painted black and red, like some kind of animal's maw, or a slasher's smile.

Ark had his drink now, but only had had a few light sips of it while watching everything happening around him. He didn't want to get quite so intoxicated yet. Most didn't notice him, but when his eyes came to rest on someone looking in his direct, he kept his gaze moving to make it look like he wasn't really paying attention to much anything. He didn't want things to get awkward, or make a spectacle of himself. He wanted it to be, that as far as anyone was concerned, that he was just lounging and enjoying his cool mug of ale. When in actuality he was scoping the scene, looking, as well as listening to the conversations around him.
It'd been some time since he had a contract for monsters, or bandits. Cruinthe was less in turmoil by these things than from where he'd come. Almost every village in Selbria had had some sort of problem; Giant rats, bandits, or other creeps and beasts. Though he was bent on taking the night to relax, his pouch was shriveling. While even if it was not in such a desperate way, Arkaegis was going to need some kind of work to put a few extra clinks in his pocket soon.
Then, the Door to the Tavern opened, and a rather intriguing figure maded their way inside.
It was a woman donned in some rather battle ready attire beneath a scarlet drape. This caught Ark's attention almost immediately. He watched as she made her way through the crowd, and sit a table away. He feigned interest, but kept his peripheral on her as the bar maid engaged in conversation. He caught the word countess, and alpine. The first proving to be the more useful information...
What stroke of luck! a countess had money, and the knowing of what might be plaguing the common rabble. Perhaps she'd have a task or two that needed dealing... or maybe knew of some other fief or province that required a monster slayer.
He turned his head to the woman drinking, making it known his focus was now on her. He stood, a smile on his face as he approached her table.
"Even'n, did I hear right? you a countess and all darlin'?

Darlin'?
Darlin'.
He said Darlin'... that rules out nobleman.
The woman cocked her head to the side at the word. He was seriously calling her that. After she was addressed as a countess. That meant that he didn't know what that mean. Some kind of foreigner perhaps? That drawl he had... it was annoying. Even Allyria had a slight accent to her, it was Korasuan, but it didn't sound like his at all. He sounded like he had a bunch of rocks in his mouth.
"That I am. And you are?"
Perhaps the social interaction could be salvaged somewhat. She wasn't overly snobbish but the Darlin' had made her mind backpedal. It was highly irregular. Which was funny because her skin was gray, and she didn't match anyone else that was in the tavern at the moment. She had another drink of her ale and put the bottle down. As she blinked after putting the bottle down acrid purple smoke wafted from her eyes. It didn't happen again.

Her vision flashed. Red clouds rolled across the sky, light struggled to break through. A tall lithe figure lounged on a mountain of bloody skull. The ground was scorched by fire. The figure laughed, and the vision ended.
She missed no time. ·

She gave him a look. He knew it, scorn and irritation, but it didn't bother him at any rate. Ruffling peoples feathers, even the entitled class, was a guilty pleasure of his. Though if he wanted to acquire what he needed, he'd better back off some.
"Sorry, I s'pose I should have introduced myself first. I'm Arkaegis Talanore, vagabond" He took a step back and bowed slightly, just in time to not notice the purple smoke which had wafted from her eyes. "Mind if I sit with ya? I'm not from aroun' here, and I was hoping to learn a bit about the region... thought to meself, who better to ask than a lady of the state?"

She nodded at him. His occupation, or stated occupation as it were, was that of a vagabond. So he was a traveler that was looking for work. He also said that he wasn't from around here, which made Allyria think that meant he had no family connections to the region. He must have traveled a long way. Longer than she had. Korasus wasn't that far once you had a horse and time.
"I'm Countess Allenmorde. Please sit. This Province has its share of troubles, but I'm not from this province. My only investments here are property and businesses, which as soon as I finish my beer I'll be heading out to scout a nearby location for some work. Where are you from?"
The half-breed held onto her ale and waited for him to respond first. She didn't have much more to add. Though she believed he was looking for work, why else would he be looking to learn more about the area? Unless he was moving in to town of course, which after looking him over again, she thought he may not have the money to do that quite yet.

Her only investments were property and business? yet she was going to scout a nearby place of hers for work? this was an interesting concept to Arkaegis...
He sat as she allowed, and took another small sip of his drink; hardly the head of it had sunk. Little less even had been drunk. "hmm... I'm from Redhilt" he said, though didn't include that he was from Selbia. "Work you say? Times so bad that even a countess needs to dirty her hands in the field?" He watched as she clutched to her beer, obviously still not entirely sure of his presence, but catching on quick to his intent.

"Ha. No. Its part of my business. A & F Ventures is in the recovery business. We go into the dark places of the world and bring back what's been lost. Treasure, trinkets, knowledge."
His confusion was funny. A countess work in the fields? Hardly. She wouldn't be caught dirtying her hands in that manner. But killing a monster, digging up a tome? That's very likely. That's how she wanted to dirty her hands. She had not use for bad business of politics. It wasn't really her concern. Her concern was retrieving lost artifacts and tomes. Which was perhaps a subject that this man from Redhilt knew nothing about. She more or less ignored his statement about where he was from. Only filing it away as information. There wasn't a thought or care about where that was. She had no reason to do either.
She finished her beverage.
"Are you any good with a weapon?"

Her tone expressed that she seemed rather amused with him. So it seemed this silver spooned, iron clad lady found his jesting prod to be entertainment. He smiled genuinely as she elaborated on her business. "Interesting." He took another sip, but a little bigger one this time. He was getting comfortable, a proposition wasn't far off.
"No. I carry one just because I like to look tough" and there it was. He brushed aside his cloak to show his long sword strapped at his hip. "depen's though, on what ye want me to do with it." He knew his place in life, some beasts or high threat contracts were not in his capabilities. Though if she just needed some protection as she traveled from location to location, or needed someone to go retrieve something basic from a rough group, he could most certainly do it.

"I'd want you to kill with it, of course. I've no use for people that wear weapons as decorations. There's a ruin in Hillsfar I want to take a look at before I put together an expedition for the company there. It's about a hundred fifty miles away. Through Skaraptica, which can be quite hostile."
Was he a waste of time? She had said it clearly. Someone that carries a weapon as mere decoration and wasn't prepared to use it was useless to her. Skaraptica could be deadly, she didn't need some coward behind her. She needed someone that could be depended on to use it without reservations on whatever monster or bandit that came at her. For a moment she thought about offering money up front. But that would be a waste. Someone who's courage was gained by gold was equally useless to her.
She finished her bottle and got out of her chair.
"Either way, I'll be leaving for Hillsfar now."
The invitation was implied.

Did she get it? it didn't seem like it. Either this noble woman didn't catch onto tones, or she was just choosing to ignore it. His sarcasm was wasted on her either way. "Heh. If it's someone to watch yer back, then I can do that I s'pose..." just as he finished speaking she'd finished her drink, and stood. He was actually surprised by this, since his own drink was only a quarter drank.
"Wait... now?" he looked at her a little in disbelief. Apparently she'd really only meant to stop in for a brief moment, perhaps it was fate he had chosen her in that moment to consult about the area. Sad though, to have wasted the cor on a hardly touched drink. But if she paid well than it would be worth the encounter.
Ark set his drink down and rose too. "Alright, I'll join ya. But first I'd like to discuss payment. Obviousl' I'm not gonna ask for a single cor until I've fulfilled my end of the bargain. Though I'd like to know what's to be look forward to." He really had wanted to relax tonight, though something drew him to this instance. It superseded his tired aching muscles, and desire to inebriate.

"Yes. Now."
She said as she started to walk out of the tavern. Her hand scooped up her backpack and she slung it over her shoulders. With a deft movement of her hands she removed the scythe from her back and rested it on her shoulder, the crescent of the blade hanging behind her, and the base of the weapon ahead of her. Her right hand had it by its grip two thirds of the way up the shaft.
"You'll get paid what you're worth, if you survive. Let's make it adjustable up to a thousand."
And with that she left the tavern and entered the blazing heat of summer.
(I'm done with the thread in this location. I'll make another one in hillsfar. In about an hour.)

Arkaegis followed The countess Allenmorde to the exit. Her reply was satisfactory, fair even, and he didn't press the matter further. The fact that she was nobility lent him ease of mind that she wasn't just going to stiff him by the end of this. "By all means then, lead the way Countess" He left the tavern with her to embark on their journey to Hilsfar. This was likely to be a rather interesting adventure.
