"The days for sun and ale have come, my bread is stale and... I can't believe I ate some." The rogue girl sang- or rather babbled about.
Pretending to know her way around the lands and recent personal independence handed the girl grueling travels. Days of wandering and surviving brought Syl stumbling upon the land of Sorath. She had started losing her sanity a few days after fleeing Selbrian- the only home she had ever known. Everything outside of her homeland was new to her- except the regions she made some past fur trades in.
Instead of being hung up on her past, Syl could not shrug off the excruciating feelings of her forced solitude. Syl cannot stand to be alone for large increments of time and had been talking to herself for well too long. She immediately saw an Inn that, in her eyes, appeared to be haloed by falling light of the heavens. "Oh my Lord of the Lands have mercy- I need an ale."
She had become so sick of hearing her own voice that she almost did not have it in her to speak. However, as usual, that was not the case.
"I-huh-need-uh-social contact," she huffed as she scraped together what little energy she had left to dash toward the Inn.
The young rogue girl, ratty hair and all, pushed her way through the door and was immediately greeted with relief at the sight of hum- "Woah!"
Syl had never seen a congregation of such diverse races before. Trying to be as casual as possible, she ran over to the table and threw herself down- completely forgetting about her need for food and alcohol. "Pardon the intrusion, but you are the first I've seen for days and must get to know you all- And you're blue!" She said, excitedly pointing at the Kalimbra. "Sorry," she quickly added, retracting her obtrusive finger from the air.

The boy smiled when the Kalimbra forgave him. The smile quickly dropped off when she declined his offer. Jorkahn would have panicked if she did not immediately explain. He looked to Allyria for confirmation and let out a sigh of relief when she explained that it was simply custom. He didn't understand fully, and wished to know more about the culture, but now wasn't the time to ask. Maybe after the two Drokagr's business had been settled. "O-oh! Once again, f-forgive my ignorance." He gave off a quiet, nervous laugh. The Champion was beating himself up on the inside, however, the fact that his company hadn't reacted too negatively and had explained things to him helped. "I-I will keep that in mind."
The bar girl had returned just then with his drink. He nodded his thanks and nervously handed her a few coins as a tip. The boy looked now at the drink and gave it a quick sniff. He could smell the alcohol, but only just barely. Otherwise, it smelled sweet, almost like it would actually taste like fruit. He left it for now simply choosing to listen in on the conversation as he had been doing before. At least, he would have if a human woman hadn't suddenly sat down at the table and projected herself into the matters at hand. She seemed very excitable.
Jorkahn shrunk inwardly a bit at the addition of yet another person, let alone that person being human. He wanted to hide his ears, but it was already too late for that. Instead, he tightened his grip on his glass and swiftly tipped the liquid down his throat. The warrior felt like he was going to need it, badly.

"Neither, we came with the initiative but were left behind on accident. A happy accident however."
Fyrra was not upset about it, she had come to terms with the whole ordeal. Which was perfect because it was her fault that they had been left behind, she had slept in late. Merrake stayed behind out of duty, which she felt bad for. The bodyguard stood up when the new arrival rushed the table, threw herself in a chair, and pointed at Fyrra. Her hand on the hilt of her weapon. Then she sat back down when her brain processed what the new arrival had said.
-"Why is she sorry for stating the obvious?"-
Merrake sputtered about, mumbling something under her breath. Fyrra pinched her under the table for it. There was no need to be rude to guests, even new arrivals. She was a Kalimbra, and thus she more than represented her city and culture. A bodyguard should not sully that. Merrake jumped slightly, then scowled at her charge.
"Oh, yes. I am blue! I like the color, I could be green or red or purple or black or gray, but I prefer to be blue. Though, I'm not sad. I find it has a calming effect on people, the color that is, and that was one of the reasons why I chose it."
She finished her glass and poured herself more. The Vortalcino Black was almost empty.

Oh that was good news. There was no contract in place for her to do any standing for the Serpents Head Inn. Allyria sensed that this was an opportunity she could not pass up. She felt bad for poor Jorkahn, he didn't seem to be handling the social interaction well. Then another person, a human, came up to their table, sat down, failed to introduce herself, and pointed out the Kalimbra was blue. Apparently this person was the opposite of Jorkahn. Where Allyria felt that he would prefer to stay away from people entirely, this one apparently needed interaction.
How curious.
Read her past, do it.
I don't need to.
She hadn't noticed before, but the governor had left the room already. Perhaps he had business to attend to? She noticed he was gone when she looked after the barmaid to get them drinks.
"Miss, another bottle of the Vortalcino Black, a bottle of Maltal White. One, two, three, four, five bowls of river serpent chowder, a plate of muffins, Vandacor Tea, and two Alpine Ales."
"Certainly."
Then the countess turned to the new arrival. She was grinning broadly. This one was certainly going to be interesting to put in a room with Jorkahn for a while.
"So who are you, miss? You seem to have come from the wilds."
Her accent sounds like she has a bunch of rocks in her mouth. Course, mine and the Kalimbra's is definitely Korasuan. Can't place Jorkahn's accent. Western Skaraptican? Maybe? So that puts the new arrival south of the border. She's probably a foreigner.
A few moments later the order arrived. A bowl of river serpent chowder was placed in front of each person. The muffins, a variety assortment, and ten total, were placed in the center of the table next to the two new bottles of wine. A cup of tea was placed in front of Allyria, along with a bottle of the Alpine Ale. Another bottle of Alpine Ale was placed in front of Syl. Allyria paid the barmaid for the food and drink.
"I'll take no contributions. I intended to have lunch when I arrived, and I'm starving. It is only courteous to provide for the table."
Buying all that stuff for the table. Chowders (5): .08*5 = .4R Wine: 2R Muffins: .1R Tea: 0 Alpine Ales: .02R Total: 2.52R

Syl smiled, finally pleased with herself in finding good conversation. Her goal in leaving home had completely flipped into a mission of finding people-and hopefully making friends. Syl was enjoying the pleasant feeling produced from potential companionship. She had a lot of time to think lately about how much she wanted to indulge herself in new cultures and this was the best way to do it. She also felt the need to hide the fact that she is heading down a path of rogue-like ways. Hopefully this does not get in the way of making friends. Trust seems to dissipate with the accompaniment of a thief...that's so bizarre...ha!-
Syl caught herself mid-thought when the elegant, blue lady spoke to her. Syl, still smiling, nodded and exclaimed, "How exciting! You got to pick your color? I think blue was a mighty choice." She stopped for a second and thought about what she had just told Syl; blue has a calming effect. For a brief moment Syl leaned back against her chair in comfort with the thought and gave out a sigh. Not a second later, she sprung back into her proper position and added, "just about as calming as an ale!"
Right after having said that, a barmaid delivered what, in Syl's eyes, looked like shining platters of delicacies. "That was mighty kind of you...and incredible timing!" She laughed, after having just brought up ale. Wait...did she know I wanted an ale? I had only just got done speaking of it. She shrugged off the idea and replied to her question, "My name is Syl Rei." She waved her hand through the air in a circular motion for introductory effect. "I had just...traveled for a while and came upon this city!" Syl looked down at herself and laughed at how ratty she was looking. Wild was the appropriate word.
Spending so much time alone had almost seemed to cure Syl's word filter problem, until she wrapped her hand around the mug, eyes falling on the boy, and said, "You're quiet. What's your name? ...er all of your names!" Her gaze moved from the boy briefly, around to everyone, then back at the boy. She wanted him to introduce himself first, oblivious of how he may feel right now.

Jorkahn stared at Syl the entire time Fyrra was talking. While what she was saying was interesting to him, he made no indication that he was listening, instead looking at Syl like a dog looked at something it wasn't sure it should be afraid of. It wasn't until Allyria had begun speaking and a bowl of chowder was placed down in front of him, which admittedly made him jump slightly, had he snapped back to look at the table. He was a jumpy one today, then again when wasn't he?
The Maltal White had been quite effective, one glass of it and he could feel a buzz coming on. His head felt lighter and his neck was loose, his heart didn't seem to be trying to jump out of his throat either. In a rather delayed turn of events, the boy nodded his thanks to Allyria before pouring another glass of the Maltal White as soon as it was placed on the table. Just as quickly as it was poured into the glass, it was poured down his throat.
The Champion took a few deep breaths to calm himself and was about to put a spoonful of the chowder into his mouth when Syl spoke to him and asked his name. He didn't respond for a while and simply blinked at her in confusion. He almost didn't realize she was speaking to him. The lad quickly put the spoon down and exclaimed, "O-Oh! I am J-Jorkahn Wealddir. S-Sorry, I don't do well around people I haven't met." He laughed nervously, rubbing the back of his head. He wasn't sure why he said that last bit, he didn't normally talk about himself to strangers. He took note of the fact she had been traveling. It was something he was fond of doing himself. Skaraptica forest was his favorite place to explore.
"Where did you travel from?" His eyes widened in surprise, had he said that out loud? It had to be the alcohol.

Blue. A mighty choice.
Fyrra liked that. Blue could be mighty she supposed. It made her think about it. She hadn't chosen blue for that reason. She had thought about it in other ways. Hearing it described as mighty was certainly new.
"I appreciate it. I'm Kalimbra Fyrra Na'Limndra. A pleasure."
Merrake sat in silence until Fyrra pinched her again. She of course fully understood what was going on at the table. She refused to participate. She didn't like the hanneth language. Cruic sounded awful to her. Korasuan was so much more elegant. She chuffed at the Kalimbra, then turned to the table and said her name. Terse, short. Not trying to be a problem but not trying to participate either.
"Merrake Av'Manait."
"She is my bodyguard. Forgive her, she is not feeling sociable. This is quite the generous spread you've provided Countess. We appreciate it wholeheartedly."
She poured herself another glass of wine from the bottle of Vortalcino black, plucked a dragonfruit muffin from the plate, and positioned her bowl of chowder closer to herself. Dipping her spoon in, she stirred the creamy dish. Then she tasted it. It was as good as people said.
"This is very good."

"I am Countess Allyria Allenmorde. A pleasure to meet you Syl. Enjoy yourselves."
The half breed dug into he rown food, choosing a muffin for herself and taking to her bowl of chowder like a Sorathi would. She was curious to see how Jorkahn was going to react to the situation. Apparently he was doing fine, he had seemed surprised when he had asked the girl a question. Allyria cracked a smile as she ate. The food was good, true, but it was better to see the boy spread his wings a bit. Perhaps it was the wine lubricating the social interaction? She would have to ask him later.
"I'm glad you enjoy it Kalimbra. The initiative will come back this way anyway, the Karligar duchy is impassable if you want to keep your gold in your pocket. Those tolls are ridiculous."
It was a semi-current event. No one had done anything yet to put a stop to their extortion. It made Allyria mad, because it made it more difficult to travel to and From Korasus if she needed to. Clearly the Kalimbra was also in that leaky boat.
The half breed leaned back in her chair slightly, tipping it onto its back legs. She was perfectly balanced after a moment. Then she picked up her beer and nearly went falling backwards from the motion. She jerked forwards and with a loud thud her chair was right again.

"It 'tis a pleasure meetin' all of you," Syl said and nodded, passing her gaze around to each of them. "Well, now we have met," she addressed Jorkahn, a smile peeling across her face as she casually slumped her arm across the back of her chair. "I came from Selbria. I did not like my work, or work did not like me. Whichever way it be, I made it here and am tremendously happy to be among people again!" She let out a laugh and grabbed her mug, taking a long swig at the thought of her small rebellion and escape.
She wanted to keep talking, but decided to bite her tongue for once and listen in to what Allyria had to say to Fyrra. Gold. Syl smirked. The thought of gold always sparks the satisfying feeling of plucking some from a passerby's pocket. It somehow made it into her nature. "Many o' places you'll want to keep your money closer to you than your pocket," she couldn't hold her tongue any longer. Her smile never dropped, nor her mug.

The world was starting to become a lot less static. He couldn't say the room was spinning, but it most certainly didn't seem to be standing still. Jorkahn stopped himself from reaching for another glass of wine and instead grabbed one of the dragonfruit muffins everyone seemed so fond of. As everyone introduced themselves he would look between them. He swallowed a lump down his throat when Merrake spoke aloud what he assumed was her name. She did not seem particularly pleased with, or interested in, the conversation they were all having. Maybe Drokagr had a different body language or vocal tone than most Cruinthians? Though somehow he doubted this.
The boy decided to occupy his thoughts to the food and the topics at hand. He carefully prodded at the chowder before tentatively scooping a spoonful into his mouth. The Champion's eyes lit up as he began to dip the muffin in the chowder and feast on the free food Allyria had so graciously given them. Syl addressed the warrior's comment just as he stuffed a spoonful of chowder in his gob. He cracked a smile and chuckled, nearly choking on his food. He couldn't help but find himself wondering about what work the roguish woman was referring to.
The lad's attention was split over the next few moments. Allyria mentioned a rather bothersome toll from the Karligar Duchy to the northeast. The boy had to admit that half of the country was mostly unfamiliar to him. Jorkahn spent most of his time on the western half of the lands of Cruinthe. However, his father did have a few crude maps of what the artists thought Cruinthe's layout was like. Next, he looked back at Syl as she made a rather unsettling comment. Normally the skittish young half-breed would make a bigger deal about the way she said it in his head, but his brain wasn't working like it normally did. In fact, the loud thud of Allyria falling forward in her chair caused his head to whip around. When he finally processed what had happened he let out a laugh, completely forgetting about Syl's comment.
"Are you alright, Lady Allenmorde?" His stutter was gone, now replaced by slight pauses and slurs in his speech as his brain tried to keep up with his mouth. He waited for an answer before continuing, "I had not heard of these tolls, how ridiculous are they, exactly?"

Fyrra was interested in the roguish girl. Selbria? She had never been there much less heard of it. She assumed it was far. Her geographical education was lacking. There must be some kind of story there. The travel alone must have been a trial. Selbria wasn't on the map of Cruinthe as far as she knew. It must have been one of the southern kingdoms. The girl had wandered over a thousand miles probably! How exciting!
"How far is Selbria? What is it like? Are there forests or mountains?"
Merrak wasn't interested in that at all. She was interested in the comment about keeping coin closer than one's pocket. Was this new person at the table a thief? That was fantastic. A thief, and a staring kid. Now she had two people to keep an eye on. Allyria's comments about the tolls through Karligar land did pique her interest however. She broke her strict concentration on her duties to offer a comment.
"Ne'Karligar etue mavalnol. Ce'Salmol."
The Karligar toll is extortion. I am disgusted.

"I'm fine Jorkahn. The tolls themselves are dozens if not hundreds of Ritz high. Depending on your situation it amounts to robbery. Completely legal robbery. A lot of groups have forgone going through their highway and instead travel wilder lands. It's more dangerous though. People die like that."
Allyria stopped, thinking over what she had just said. Many times she had thought and had actually gone around Karligar land instead of paying the toll to go through it. It was certainly safer to travel on the highways, if you were the right race. But for her, it didn't matter. All it took was one person that didn't like the color of her skin to ruin her day, maybe even kill her. It didn't matter. She finished her bowl of chowder and listened to the other part of the conversation unfolding. The girl was from Selbria? How different. Allyria herself was considered a foreigner, but Korasus was within the boundaries of Cruinthe proper. Despite this it was still part of the Dramanae nation.

Syl noticed Jorkahn's gaze. It was revealing the effects of wine which made her smile, laugh and shake her head. Although, Syl had not drank anything but water for a very long time and shaking her head brought similar effects of slow motion. She set down her mug, a look of disappointment sweeping quickly across her face. Syl once took pride in her ability to drink a lot, but that was not the case apparently.
Syl lit up again at Fyrra's excitement toward herself and she jumped on the opportunity to talk more. Letting out a laugh first, she replied, "I have not traveled all of Selbria; all I know are forests! I grew up in the woods, worked in the woods, traveled through the woods. There is a mountain called The Claw not too far from where I lived, but I rarely ever had to travel to it for trade. Everyone keeps to themselves in Selbria and they dislike change or strangers...isn't that awful! Who would hate travelers?! Or new conversations?!" She started raising her voice; it was palpable she was enthusiastic toward her feeling of disappointment in the culture of her land. Her self-indulging rant made her forget to answer how far Selbria is from the Sorath. Althought, she would not have even known. Her travels seemed a blur, especially since she was alone.
She cut herself off from going on any further- especially about her work. Her ears tuned in to the talk about robbery from Allyria and she turned to her. "Legal robbery? Have you been to this Kar-lee-guh duch-whatsit place?" She asked, clearly confused about these cities and lands.

If the Drokagr language didn't sound like gibberish to him before, it most certainly did now. He looked at Merrake as she spoke, seemingly to Allyria. The only word he thought he recognized was Karligar, perhaps she was responding to the comment about tolls? Did that mean she understood and could speak Cruic? Well, at least the former question was somewhat answered by Allyria's response to his question. The boy brought his fingers up to his mouth, palms touching. He was quiet for a moment as if in thought.
"Is there anything that can be done about the tolls? I imagine that would drive away most, if not all trade." Jorkahn didn't need to be his father's son to understand something so basic. Sure, they could bring in a decent amount of income initially from people who didn't know of the tax, but the moment word got out most would avoid the duchy like the plague. He didn't think about it much longer, instead being distracted by Syl's story.
He spoke to her with a smile,"Western Skaraptica has a particularly lovely spot by Tower Rock. It's right along the river. I often go out of my way to camp there when I need to cross. Unfortunately, Skaraptica can be quite dangerous if you don't know the lay of the land." The Champion could certainly understand being wary of travellers and strangers. He was quite wary himself, in most cases. The only reason he could speak so openly to all the people at the table he felt was due to the alcohol. Or perhaps he was just becoming more accustomed to people?
Probably not.

"It sounds like your countrymen are like my companion here. She is not in the habit of being friendly with people she has just met. Forgive her rudeness. Though we are alike in mind. I enjoy meeting new people and having new conversations!"
Forests and mountains. It was likely to be a beautiful country. Fyrra put it on her exceedingly long list of places to visit one day. If she would ever have the time. The world was a big place. The two half-breed women continued eating, letting others have their input over them. Merrake wasn't too keen on discussing anything at the moment. She was not shy. She saw new people as threats.
For the bodyguard, Allyria was no threat. She was a half-breed like them. She shared their culture. She was not going to touch the Kalimbra, not without permission anyway. The countess would know that would mean death. It was the other two that she had worries about, as well as the others in the tavern. There were too many people and too many wild factors. Seh ate tentatively, quietly. Keeping her eyes on everyone.
The Drokagr outnumbered the humans at the table. That was new inside Cruinthe.
"This table is almost like a table in Ne'Serah Tinka."
