I hope this letter finds you and yours well. How are things in the city? I hear the Royal Justean Guard has taken over. I hope without too much damage or violence. I would like trade to resume in that direction as soon as possible. Have they still closed the borders to merchants? We're running low on some of the Cahalian and Selbrian goods. Hek'Cruican goods are completely depleted. Forget about Fringothan goods as well.
Unfortunately my caravan and I are in a bind. Karliger has us effectively bound by law. If other letters do not find my nearer allies it will be up to you to assist me.
I'm not sure if you will, but you were one of three people I thought of to help me when I discovered my situation. A law called the Karliger Border Control Act of 200ATD, recently enacted, has my company in a dire situation. We can not leave Karliger duchy until the debt this act generates is paid without fear of repercussions. It is a monstrous amount of money. I have no legal avenues to strike down the law without the intervention of a governing body, such as the Crown.
I believe since you are effectively the Provincial Governor of Viktoria you have direct access to the Crown or whichever pawn he has doing his dirty work these days? Any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated and I will owe you a debt. Duke Mardok may or may not also be helping in that regard perhaps a united front would be the best approach, and hopefully another ally will come through to help me with the financial situation. He is nearer, and it is a great quantity of gold. Not something I'd trust to be hauled across long distances.
I know you have powerful... I'm not sure if friends are the right word, in the Royal Justean Guard. But I implore you not to bring violence here. I do not want my caravan caught between forces, and any violence on my part will sign the death warrants for my men and I.
The Karligers are insane and dangerous. They have a stranglehold on all trade in the north east region. This act could starve hundreds of thousands of people. Not to mention destroy my trade in the region. I'm staring at the man as I write this and he's smiling at me. That sort of bloody smile that a madman has when he's tasted fresh blood. I'm recalling my old soldiering days. They'll kill us with little to no reason.
Again, anything you can do would surely help.
