Duke Mardok,
It is hoped that this letter finds you well. I trust that your most recent supply order has reached you well. Naka has returned unharmed.
Summer has found us all well, luckily. Hopefully the harvests will be good. I'm currently in Milltown of Karliger Duchy. A wonderful little town that is just provincial enough to be charming. Of course, it's losing its charm as I hear more and more about the violence that this part of the country had suffered the two prior months.
Otherwise we are well.
In matters of trade however my company is in a bit of a bind. Karliger has enacted some sadly legal and highly enforceable laws that will ruin trade in this part of the country.
Unfortunately the pressure that needs to be applied is not military. The Crown will not tolerate an army moving across its major provinces. Especially after the mishaps in Sorath.
Any influence you can impart upon the crown to overturn this vile law that Karliger has enacted, the Karliger Border Control Act of 200ATD, would be greatly appreciated. Only a higher authority of the realm, as you know, can do such a thing. As there's no provincial governor of this region, it falls to the King.
I hear he has been unwell. Perhaps whatever pawn is in his place will be more pliable. I am for lack of a better term trapped until another ally comes through for me. Karliger has me and mine effectively bound by law. We won't be able to make deliveries or conduct any trade until then.
Some notes about the man.
He seems to be exceedingly clever, or someone who influences him is. I also heard from the local population that he murdered his father to acquire the Ducal throne here, and that his confederates were his siblings and cousins. They helped him murder his parents and uncles. That's just conjectured, but after seeing him I believe it.
If it were not my business and if his Duchy was not on a major highway, I would stay far away from him and his land. This is a dark place. If you can help it, go around Kushfire. It is not worth it entering this land.
Your Friend,
Kable Voss
