Tyr was hosting a party!
...Well, in a little while. And only really for his people. Maybe less of a party and more of a regional shindig
The Mardok manor was bustling with activity as the staff prepared. There was a hefty amount of cleaning to do, the building was rarely used since the Duke lived elsewhere, and even some additional last minute construction. The kitchens had fallen into a state of disrepair, the only remaining function being that the stove could still burn the whole place down if you lit a fire in it. The whole bit had to be torn down and redone, and the Duke grabbed a hammer with glee. Out went the back wall, down came the shelves. A few additional hammer swings and the stone stove was in pieces, being chucked out the open back onto the rubbish pile.
All that was left was the floor, support beams, and side walls. Rebuilding the wall and cabinets would be easy, but Tyr wanted a bit of an improvement. A stone hearth would be built into the new back wall, with an open area on bottom to act as an oven, and a flat top to use as a stove. After that he could build racks and cabinets and shelves all he wanted, but the hearth was the big project to be completed.

The thing had been shaped, but upon the first attempt at lighting a fire the stone cracked. Hard. It went right up the middle, with little cracks splintering out the further it crawled up. The top ended up falling backwards over itself into the rubbish pile. At least it was a considerate piece of broken masonry. Demolishing the rest Tyr went about trying again. No point in doing anything else right now, he needed this completed or it would be a very hungry gathering later. Maybe he could try a different design though this time. He'd heard some interesting reports about a hearth with an open top outside, letting smoke vent easily. It seemed a bit odd, you'd be letting the heat escape freely, but his cooks had mentioned that the stone tended to hold most of the heat anyway so they wouldn't be losing much. Might as well give it a try eh?

This time the new design seemed to work perfectly. The heat didn't build up so much that the stone cracked, yet everything burned hot enough to cook with properly. Success! With that the Duke went about fabricating the wooden things that the cooks asked for, seemed like a better idea to ask them over just making what he felt they might need. Once again his home had a fully functioning kitchen!
