Karligar Duchy
Description--
Karligar Duchy is split into five original Counties and four conquored counties. Its borders stretch from the north western edges (including these edges) of Eastern Skaraptica to the plains within a few miles of the Kushfire Mountains. On the North Eastern border are its neighbors, Corday Duchy (most of which has been absorbed), and Hillsfar. On its South Eastern Border is Rosterford. On the other side of it's western border is the technical eastern boundary of Sorath Province. It's South Western border touches the counties that have the highways to Morith and Helkorth. Karligar is a major corridor for shipping from and to the Eastern Duchies, the South, Sorath, Morith, Rosterford, Hillsfar, and Korasus. It's strategic economical position grants it a vice grip over the area, or a route of free trade, depending on the disposition of its Duke. Without free passage through Karligar, there are no roads to Hillsfar or Rosterford from the south, reaching Morith or the south from the Eastern Duchies becomes a time consuming and costly affair, and vice versa.
Karligar Duchy's geography features a single mountain where the Karligar seat of power, Karligar Rock, is located. Around Karligar rock is a forest known as Wargwood by the locals and the family, though officially it has no name. The Jenkirt river runs from north east to southwest through the Duchy, which divides the fifth and most remote county from the other four. The south eastern county consists mostly of the edge of Skaratpica Forest, with a remote hunting village west of center.
Harnswaith village is the oldest village in the duchy, and is also the one most closely tied to Karligar Rock, being just twelve miles down the road. It has the largest population out of all of the villages, with Dartgrad and Karthford close behind. Skarwood village is very isolated, and typically left alone by the Karligars. Salas is a nice sized fishing village but is otherwise unremarkable. Darkholme has no villages and only hunters and farmers live in that county in scattered lodges and cabins. Milltown is exactly what it sounds like, a town of mostly mills, though it receives decent traffic from Karthford. Nordwoad being on the main highway between the rest of the North Eastern Duchies and the south in general is a decent way station for travelers.
