Ok so maybe he'd lied to himself slightly, Ulfric thought to himself as he wandered through the forest, his stomach grumbling as he thought of the food that he had eaten. The supplies he had taken hadn't been enough for the journey as he had hoped. He had been walking through the forest for several hours now and it almost felt as if the wildlife was taunting him.
The birds flew around above him, the rabbits and deer carried on through, oblivious to his grumbling stomach and the need for food he had that could not be sated by the simple berries and leaves that they ate. What he needed was meat, it was as he had always learnt, a man couldn't be a man if they didn't have a good healthy love of meat, or something like that. He hadn't really paid that much attention to what he'd been taught, it hadn't particularly interested him and he knew he'd probably never use it, being the forgotten bastard son doomed to never be allowed to take his place.
But who cared, he didn't, the life of no responsibility beyond that to himself was the one for him, he found it easier and much more enjoyable to live by, apart from in moments like these when he was hungry as anything and there was no food.
Just then a rabbit bounded out onto the path in front of him and he froze, looking at the rabbit and only seeing a little bundle of meat waiting to be eaten. Crouching his legs slightly he prepared himself, coiling his muscles before leaping at the small bunny, hoping to catch it before it could escape.

Unfortunately for him though he missed, the leap not quite being enough to secure himself a dinner and instead ending with him sprawled on the floor. Ulric groaned loudly in despair at the lack of food and his stomach growled with him, moving slowly out of lack of energy he got up and dusted himself off, trying to pick a new course of action.

Ceon let out a long, extended sigh almost silently, trying not to draw the attention of her prey. She had been travelling in this forest for several hours, and fatigue was beginning to take a toll on her. Well, not necessarily muscle fatigue, since she was fine with a bit of casual walking through the trees and the bushes. Rather, she was just growing hungry. She didn't have any supplies on her, nor did she want to take her chance with some potentially poisonous berries, so she was aiming to go for a small creature.
A creature such as a rabbit, an example of which she could see in the bush just a short distance away from her. She stood behind a tree, doing her best to remain unnoticed by it, so that she could grab it when it finally ran out into the open. As it was, she wasn't going to be able to catch it all that well, since it was in a bush and all the twigs would get in her way. She was waiting for it to jump out, at which point she would leap out and hastily grab it. If she did, she would have secured herself some much-needed food, provided that she could cook it.
Suddenly with no prior warning, a quiet rustle signalled the creature exiting its leafy protection. Ceon wasted no time in making the most of this opportunity, and she immediately leaped out from behind her hiding place to try and snatch the small beast.
But, in addition to the rabbit, something else met her eyes. A man was mid-jump towards the same prey, though from what Ceon could see he wasn't exactly on target to it.

Try as she might, Ceon wasn't on the right track either. Having not seen the man, and thus having failed to accommodate for him, she landed right on top of him with a yelp.

Or rather he would have gotten up and dusted himself off, then carrying on his day as if nothing had happened. That of course being if another person didn't then proceed to land on top of him. Ulric felt the weight of another person settle on him, why exactly they were on there he had no real idea of, but he couldn't really move to get up while they were on there because his lack of muscles made it rather hard to lift someone.
"Hello? Might I have control of my body back? As it is right now I can't really move it with you on top." He said to the figure on top of him, hoping that they were amiable, or that at the very least they weren't bandits or slavers, then things could get very very messy. From the fact that as it stood now he couldn't feel a knife or any blade poised at his back, and that they had yet to speak to him he settled that it probably wasn't bandits or slavers that had come and landed on him.
Ulric's stomach growled loudly, like the roar of some forgotten evil beast, reminding him once again of that rabbit he'd missed, oh how he wished he could have caught it, that could have been his dinner even if it had only enough meat on it for one person, not for the two that were now in the forest.

"Ouch..." The girl pulled herself up to a sitting position after her somewhat embarrassing tumble, stretching her neck to the side to make sure she wasn't terribly injured. Thankfully it had only been a light fall, so she was only going to get some momentary pain before it faded away. Even more to her luck was that she had landed on something fairly soft, which had helped to break her fall!
Actually, scratch that. When she finally looked down to see what this cushion was, she realised that it was more bad luck than good. She was currently sitting on the chest of a man, a man with a colourful mix of hair tones and clothing consisting of mostly earthly browns. Her eyes quickly widened as her mind caught on to what was happening, and she hurriedly pulled herself off the man so as to cause no further embarrassment. "S-sorry! Are you alright?" She asked, patting off her cloak of the bits of dirt that it had been scuffed with.
She wasted no time in getting to her feet, and extended an arm to the still seated man on the floor with the intention of helping him up. "Do you need a hand?"

Ulric lay on the floor for a few seconds, still slightly dazed, of course being dazed was nothing particularly new to him and so he managed to get over it fairly quickly in fact. As soon as the weight left his back he pulled himself into a seated position with his legs outstretched in front of him as he took a good look at the person who had fell on him, intending to make some joke about it before continuing.
But then his eyes saw who exactly had fell on him, a woman wearing a tight bodysuit that left pretty much nothing to the imagination, her skin so pale and pure, not a blemish on it, and her hair just caused him to stop and stare for a second. Seeing the woman a switch flicked in his head, leading him to change his response. "I'm glad that I could soften your fall," He said as he stood with the assistance of her hand. "Are you hurt at all? It seems that we both went for the same rabbit, and that we both missed the mark." He said laughing good-naturedly at the fact that they had both failed.
Ulric began brushing down his clothes, removing any loose mud and leaves, yet still he was left with a few brown stains on his otherwise white shirt which annoyed him slightly as these were supposed to be the clothes he didn't get muddy, he had another pair of clothes for that sort of work.

"No, I'm not hurt." Ceon replied, her cheeks tinting red just a little as she saw the man's eyes travel over her body. She couldn't help what she was wearing! It was the most practical, and it was the only thing that would fit her from her old hut! She laughed weakly at his following comment, scratching the back of her head. "Ah, yeah it is pretty funny..." She couldn't help but notice that the man before her was just a bit taller than her, a few inches, which irked her somewhat.
"It's stranger that neither of us noticed the other until now, though. What were you doing out here, hunting a rabbit with nothing but your bare hands?" Ceon's heart fell with a tinge of guilt as she saw the stains of mud on the man's clothes, feeling somewhat responsible for them. If she hadn't landed on him, he might have gotten away with a lot less. "Sorry about your clothes, by the way... I didn't realise you were there, and I couldn't change where I was jumping in mid-air." She once again laughed weakly, this time more to cover up her awkwardness than due to anything actually being funny.
"Well, sorry to bother you anyway." She bowed and turned to walk off, just as her stomach let out a rather loud rumbling sound that betrayed her hunger.

Ulric listened carefully to what she said, noting that it made sense, how had they not really noticed each other, that was a very valid question, they quite obviously hadn't been that far from each other, they had both jumped on the same rabbit meaning they would have had to be close.
"It's not your fault at all, my clothes were dirty when I missed anyway, would have just landed on the floor, except with nothing on top of me. But no big deal don't worry about it at all, let's just be happy neither of us are hurt." Ulric said, still with a smile plastered on his face. She began laughing, and him being him he could tell it was quite obviously not out of anything actually being funny, he knew the sound of genuine laughter about something funny and this was not it at all.
And then she turned to leave, just like that, assuming that she'd bothered him, why was she so suddenly leaving couldn't they talk a bit more or something, if she was hunting rabbits also then surely she must be hungry as well. Her stomach quickly betrayed that fact to him with a rather large rumbling that almost matched his own a few minutes earlier. "Are you not hungry, surely both of us working together would get more food than us working apart? You don't have to stay with me for long just while we have food as a mutual interest why not double our chances at finding some."

"Just to find food?" The girl slowly turned around the face the man again, so that she could listen to what he had to say. Thankfully he seemed very reasonable, since he didn't hold Ceon responsible for the dirtying of his clothes, which she thought he would have placed her to blame for at least a little. Instead he was more concerned about whether or not they were hurt. Well, nice people did exist apparently, even if they were a little bit rare.
He even offered for them to hunt together, so that they could find food more quickly! As nice as it sounded, Ceon hadn't missed out on the rumbling of his stomach a few seconds ago either, her highly sensitive ears keenly picking up on it. She was well aware that he was just as hungry as she was, so there was no need for her to feel shame in the noises her belly made.
"I think I'll take you up on that offer then, if that's alright..." She briefly looked over the man, and then down at her own body, before looking back up at him. "But we're not exactly well equipped... Are we just going to be stuck catching rabbits with our bare hands? It might be difficult."

"Just to find food." He said, agreeing with her as she turned back to face him, it seemed that she was hesitant but he was sure that she would come around, he had no ulterior motives....that she would know of, so he could see no real reason that she would refuse him. Ulric flashed her a smile, he also knew that she was rather hungry and so the prospect of the two of them hunting with the ability to gain more food if they work together would most likely appeal to her if he was thinking in his right mind and assuming that she was also in her right mind.
And then she brought up a good topic, would they be hunting only with their bare hands, well of course they would, even if Ulric was fairly unsure how to do it himself personally. They had no other means with which to hunt, yes it would be difficult but he was sure that with the two of them doing it they would somehow manage it even if they only cuaght one rabbit between them, one was still enough for a meal.
"Even bare handed with the two of us i'm sure that we can manage to catch a rabbit or two, it wont be that hard of us with two of us working together, we have our natural intelligence over them." He said, seeing that she was still unsure if she wanted to help him out, and he couldn't really blame her, he wasn't sure how they would do it themselves really either.

Ceon couldn't deny that the idea was very tempting. With some help, her ability to gather and prepare food would be greatly increased. Which meant that she would be able to cure her hunger much sooner! Well, apart from the fact that neither her nor this man appeared to be any good at the job. There was a chance that they would just continue to fail, with the only difference being that they failed together instead of individually.
But on the other hand, working as a team had great benefits. It opened up many options that wouldn't be possible alone, such as scaring prey into the other person and their trap, and encircling. It was more likely to succeed, but there was still the chance of simply not succeeding. Still, logic instructed her to choose the option that gave her the greatest chance of getting her food.
"Natural intelligence, you say. But neither of us managed to catch it..." She smirked jokingly, laughing at the incompetence of both her and the man. "It's better than nothing, though. So, what's your plan for this? Do you even have a plan?"

Of course he didn't have a plan, he had only just come up with the idea of them working together he hadn't had time to formulate a plan, and his methods didn't usually involve planning anyway. But he was fairly sure that he could come up with a good enough sounding one right now, if not then she shoudl be able to surely. Double the brainpower should equal twice as good a plan right?
"Well the way I see it we have two options, either we both hide in bushes and wait for something to come along then jump out at it from two different angles, essentially trapping it before we go in for the kill. Either that or one of us finds prey and herds it towards the other who will be laying in wait, at which point both of us jump at it and dinner is served. I'm open to your suggestions if you have any also, mine are only rough ideas."
Ulric was fairly proud with what he had come up with, he wasn't usually a person for planning and would much rather just go in and do something, but if it would help him convince this woman to hunt with him then sure he was happy to this time.

Ceon listened intently to her new partner's suggestions, her hand on her chin as she contemplated them. The first idea was... somewhat lacking, to put things simply. If they both just lay in wait, they would probably never find anything. The area they could cover without moving was just too small, and the chances of an animal walking right in front of them was next to null.
On the other hand, the second idea was a lot more reasonable. By looking for an animal first, which involved searching a wide area, they would almost certainly find something. The only problem was herding it into the other person so that they could capture it, since it would be difficult to get it to move in the right direction.
"I'm not sure about that first one. We probably won't catch anything doing that, unless we're super lucky." She put a hand on her chin, contemplating the ideas. "We might be able to get somewhere with the other, but it's still not very reliable. If we had a weapon, this would be so much easier... If we do that second idea then, who will be out looking and who will be lying in wait?"

"I'm unsure, are you particularly fast? I wouldn't consider myself the fastest person, my skills sit more in being quiet than in speed, maybe we should have a little test and see who is faster?" Ulric said with a grin, hoping that she would take the bait to have a little fun before they got down to business, even if they were both running on empty stomachs.
"The idea is good but it's no use if the slower of us is the one trying to find something, then we wont get anything in the first place nor will we manage to herd it to the other." Ulric said, further trying to goad her into this little impromptu race, it might be a bit of fun, he thought.
Ulric hooked his thumbs into his belt, looking at the forest around them, he couldn't see much wildlife, then again most of it would have probably gone into hiding considering how loud the two figures were being, so it would probably be that much harder to get anything considering how much noise they were making. Oh well though, he thought to himself, I might be hungry but there's no risk of starvation before I reach the next town so no harm in having a little fun, and if I get some food out of it then all the better.

"I'm not too fast either, I'm afraid. Pretty average." She raised her eyebrows upon hearing what followed, her mouth soon stretching into a wide grin of confidence. "But I can't turn down a challenge~"
Despite knowing that food should have been her primary objective, and that running on an empty stomach would only worsen her condition of hunger, Ceon was much to prideful to decline a race. It was a matter of seeing who was the best out of them, and thus who was superior. Since she was fairly certain that she had a decent chance at winning, her mind was hardly stopping her from accepting.
"What are the bounds to this race, then? Start and finish line? And we won't be able to judge very well if we're close, will we? Unless you have someone to act as the referee, who you can just pull out of a hat." She grinned, stretching her arms out in front of her to make sure she was limber for the upcoming contest. She then reached out one of her legs, placing her hands on her thigh to stretch that a bit too. If she was going to race, she was going to go all out with it. "I say from here, to the taller tree just ahead." She got up from her stretching exercises to point forward at one tree that noticeably grew higher than the others; an old-looking oak.

"Sounds good by me" Ulric replied with a cheeky grin at his new companion. The parameters for their race sounded fair, it put them both on even footing as it was a fairly straight shot from the start line to the finishing one. Ulric began stratching his legs, noticing that she was doing the same. It was good to know that she was intelligent, or at least used to physical exercise as she knew the importance of stretching.
Unfortunately for her he had one ally that she didn't, magic, he could use his wind magic to boost himself which would be rather useful for him in order to beat her, it was a matter of his personal pride more than a race to see who it was that would actually be doing that certain part of their hunting plan.
He refused to lose, he would try his hardest to beat his new companion, she seemed to have quite the competitive spirit to if he were to judge from how quickly she took up the idea and the grin she had shown towards him. He enjoyed meeting another person with a competitive spirit to rival his, made life all the easier.
Ulric stopped his stretches, taking up a position on the start line ready to begin, giving her ample time to get into her own starting position, not wanting there to be any sort of allegations of cheating. "Three. Two. One. GOO" Ulric shouted, taking off on the last word and sprinting his hardest to reach the tree.
