Ulric woke up, arching his back and hearing the vertebrae pop, stretching out his arms at the same time also to clear the rigidity and the way that his muscles were aching slightly, what'd he do exactly that made had caused this.
It was at that moment that he noticed that he was not wearing any clothes in this bed, and also that he wasn't alone in the bed, Ulric let out a slight groan as he saw that in bed next to him was a woman, why exactly they were in bed together he couldn't remember, the fog of sleep was still clouding his mind.
He slumped back, his head back on the bed as his eyes closed in annoyance, annoyance not at the fact that he'd ended up like this, but that he couldn't remember how it had happened or what had happened. Ulric swore to himself under his breath, trying not to wake the other occupant of the bed.
Beginning to pull back the covers he slowly slipped from the bed, but got only one leg out before he heard a voice coming from beyond the door, "Jane? Jane? Are you decent?.....I'm coming in." Ulric froze like a deer in the headlights, one leg out of the bed and the other barely covered.
The door creaked open with a sound that to him sounded almost as if the grim reaper himself was coming into the room, and although the man who came through the door obviously was not, he wasn't much better. A rather large man, corded with muscle and wearing a brown tunic with a soot stained leather apron walked in. Of course....the blacksmiths daughter....the blacksmith of all people....of course it would be....
"You...You...What have you done!!" He shouted, spittle flying from his lips as he slowly advanced towards Ulric slowly, squaring up to his full height. Ulric slowly backed away, hurriedly struggling to pull up his trousers whilst holding his waistcoat and shirt in hand.
His back hit the window and he almost fell through it, it was open and there was a metre drop to a smaller house on the side of this one, Ulric being on the first floor currently. "Not much, we fell asleep quickly, i promise" He said back at the father, even in a situation such as this being unable to say anything serious. "Jane, till the next time." He said, with a cheeky wink as he swung himself around and jumped out of the window. Hopefully he could land himself on the roof without hurting himself to badly.

Ulric hit the slightly lowered roof well, rolling to absorb the shock before standing at the edge of the next roof, looking back to see the red faced blacksmith at the window, a vein on his forehead throbbing dangerously as if his head were about to explode. From this point the man looks slightly like a tomato, he was so red that it seemed as if all the blood in his body may have gone up to his head.
Ulric couldn't help but look back and chuckle at the man, even if it meant that he wasted a precious few seconds in what could have potentially been more time to escape, he knew how exactly this would go should the blacksmith catch him. It wouldn't be pretty, a man that spends his days beating iron and metal into shape with a hammer was someone that you didn't want to mess with ever if you could help it. Even if he did like to take risks sometimes, Ulric was rather fond of his life and keeping his life with him instead of letting someone take it away.
Sending a quick wink at the blacksmith he then proceeded to jump off of the ceiling of this now lower roof, although lower was saying something as it was still several metres off of the floor, if anything it was a harder jump from this roof to the floor. "Have a good day sir." He shouted back as he leapt off of this roof, realising that he'd pretty much made his escape here.

Once again he hit the floor, this time instead keeping his legs moving as he hit the ground to transfer the leftover momentum, running a few steps then jogging and stopping fully. Quite happy that his escape seemed to have been successful. But he wasn't completely out of it yet, the blacksmith would know how to use stairs surely and in a small village like this it wouldn't take long for him to rouse his friends and neighbours and for the pitchforks and torches to come out.

Ulric carried on down the street, keeping down the back alleys and such where he wasn't under constant view from anyone who happened to look down the street. Instead sneaking around behind the houses trying to make as little sound as he possibly could whilst still moving at a decent speed.
He quickly realised that as soon as he broke into the open he'd be noticed, he began looking for a disguise, relieving several washing lines of various items of clothing, ignoring the feeling of wet clothing on his skin as a necessary evil. He might just be being overly paranoid but he'd learnt to expect it, things had gone south like this before.
Pulling a long black cloak over his current clothing after pulling off his brown waistcoat and bundling it up, keeping his hair up and tucking the ponytail into a small black riding cap filched from a particularly overburdened line.
Ulric took a moment to stand still, pulling the cloak further around himself, pulling the hat down so it covered his brow and changing his posture from his usual confident open way of standing and moving to a more shy conserved person. Disguising yourself was about the disguise but was also about the posture and how you behaved, stood and acted.

He got around well enough, none of the vendors knowing him as he walked to the various stores, purchasing what little supplies that he could afford, small rations, enough to get him out of here.
Feeling that he'd gotten out free, the minute he was out of sight of the village he exploded, his reserved disguise posture dissapearing and him turning back into his normal ways. He let out a maniacal laugh, the adrenaline pumping at the risk that he had taken and had somehow managed to get through.

Ulric walked at a fair pace for a good amount of time before coming across a small forest, so small that he could practically see the other side of it, more a gathering of trees than an actual forest, a baby forest if that's what you wanted to liken it to. To Ulric it instead presented a chance to rest in the shade of the trees and have himself a small break for some food and water.
Upon reaching the edge of the small collection of trees he sat down on a small stump under a low hanging branch, the branch being just out of reach. Luckily enough though that just out of reach branch did present a fairly good amount of shade for him, enough so that the sun was out of his eyes as he drank from his waterskin, nibbling on a small piece of bread to keep him going.
Looking around at the trees he figured that they could be useful for his particular skills, he was fairly out of practice and even though he could traverse treetops well enough things wouldn't always be that easy. Ulric brushed his hands together to clean off any crumbs and swallowed his mouthful, standing from atop the tree stump and moving to the tree, seeing several handholds that would make this tree incredibly simple to climb, at least for about halfway up. It was a hulk of a tree, a good fifteen metres tall at an estimate, the handholds would only take him five metres off the floor though. Oh well, he'd have to improvise.
Ulric placed a hand in each handhold and pulled himself up, just after reaching the floor he dug both feet into holds as well, moving slowly and methodically to climb upwards.

He got as far as the handholds would take him easily enough, slowly moving himself off of the main trunk of the tree and shimmying onto a large branch protruding from it's side, enjoying the feeling of climbing once again and wondering if he should go higher.

Ulric's eyes were stuck upwards though, wondering if he could make it any higher, the next branch large enough for him to stop at was another five metres or so up, the handholds weren't a problem they were still few enough that he could easily climb, the problem infact was that he wasn't sure if he wanted to go up higher when he wasn't sure how sturdy the tree was, he didn't fancy breaking the branch so that he went flying out of the tree and killed himself.
Unfortunately, Ulric wasn't really a man of caution, he preferred to risk it instead and so he decided he would have to make the climb, however he did sit on the current branch for several minutes, taking in the small view that he had from this branch, it wasn't bad, a bit green and boring but not bad.
He knew he should by all rights just carry on going and not waste his time on a distraction like this, but he needed to keep his skills sharp (or at least that's what he told himself the reason was, it totally had nothing to do with him just wanting to have some fun.)
Ulric grasped the trunk of the tree again, once again moving his hands and feet into position to continue climbing.

EQogjOb2 Once again he scrambled up the drunk with barely a care, now sitting pretty about ten metres from the ground, the height not fazing him in the slightest as he came off the trunk and sat on a branch with his feet hanging off the edge.

Unfortunately he knew he couldn't go any further up of course, the trees trunk became to narrow and the branches to thin, this was the furthest that this tree could take him, yet if he could he wanted to much further, but not today obviously. Ulric stared up at the higher branches, wishing he could be up there yet knowing that was to big a risk, even for someone such as whim for whom risk was an old friend.
Ulric stood on the thin branch that he was on, holding himself up by placing his arms on close by branches to support himself as he felt the wind genrtly hitting against him, it was good. Whatever thoughts a man might have in life, a healthy fear of the elements and the power of nature would be something that any would be good to have. People thought that man were the strongest things, yet time nad time again we were drawn back by nature, and nature was much less advanced than we are or will ever be most likely. The simple raw power of it appealled to him, especially that of the wind constantly brushing against him up here in the tree how it would.
The wind though was something that he liked, it had so many different aspects to it, it could be calm or harsh, bring life or take it away, it felt good that the wind was blowing against his skin, almost as an old friend, it was a comforting aspect of life for it to be there.
Without his realising, Ulric felt something in him stir, a feeling came over him as he felt a small trickle of something come loose in him, something that he'd only felt once before when he'd almost been killed by a knife wielded by an angered man who'd lost money.
It was his magic, was this what it felt like, warmth rushed through his body, filling all of him with warmth, should he try something or should he just leave it. A grin spread across Ulric's face, of course he was going to try something, he'd have to be a stupid craven not to. Ulric let the power suffuse his body, allowing it in instead of fighting it, he could feel the power raging around inside of him looking for a channel for release. It's strength inside him was growing like a storm brewing, he needed a way to release it.
How do you cast magic though, he'd only ever done it once and that was completely by accident, even if it did save his life. Ulric, tried willing the magic into his arms and it complied, the main force of it slowly travelling into his arms. He tried imagining wind, some mages could create elemental magic could they not, hopefully he was one of them. Ulric concentrated on the wind running through him and past him, focussed on the idea of it and willed it to appear, hoping that he'd be able to not just do something but release the magic stored in him.

Ulric held his palms out in front of him as he focussed, and was glad that he had when a sudden burst of air released from his palms and the knockback forced him back against the trunk of the tree. The burst of air had been momentary but strong, and you could physically see it due to it's ferocity.
After having been forced back against the tree Ulric slumped to a seated position, panting heavily, feeling considerably drained from even that small amount of magic that he had done.

The power still was in him, he could feel it, yet it had settled, becoming a warm feeling within him that blew around inside of his body, not unlike a calmer version of the wind that he had just somehow managed to control. The extent of his power he did not know, but he knew that it was there, and that it manifested itself in more forms than visions.
Ulric carefully made his way back down the tree, his legs shaking in anticipation, he had to try that more, the rush of strength and power that he had felt was something he wanted to feel again, he had felt so powerful at that moment, so in control of the powers and forces of nature, the wind had been his ally at that point.
Upon reachign the bottom of the tree he stepped away from it, instead going back to the trunk where he had initially sat, pacing around it for a few seconds thinking of what he could do to test this newfound power. Ulric paused, when people tested their archery they used targets, so why should he not test it on an object, something to aim for. Something big to begin with, then he would see if he could hit anything more. the tree stump seemed perfect for the task.
Slowly he backed away from it, walking approximately three metres from the trunk and settling into a low forward stance. The force of his power had almost knocked him from the tree before, so this time he would be ready for it, Ulric dug his feet solidly into the ground and set both hands in front of him, his right supporting his outstretched left hand. Once again felt the power inside of him, it was calmer now and so he struggled to reach it, but when he did he felt a new warmth wash over him as he suffused himself in magic. He then drew as much of it as he could into his outstretched left arm, holding it there and trying to release it from that one point, hoping that the pure concentration of it all trying to escape at once would be enough to force the wind out at a high enough pressure.

He felt rather than saw the power leave his body, the sudden lack of it causing him to feel empty as it all went shooting out in front of him, flying straight and true and clipping the top of the stump, making a few splinters of wood fly off but lacking the strength of a direct hit. The problem wasn't the wind, it was his aiming, it needed work.
Still though, Ulric grinned at his newfound power, already thinking of the possibilities of the things that he could do with this.

Ulric grinned continuously for about five minutes, staring at his hand and wondering once again wht had come out of it, but then the reality set in, although for him even that wasn't to bad. Using magic was illegal, if you were found to use it without a licence from the crown, you were screwed. People found to use magic without a licence would usually be met with a blade through their body, capture not being an option, and if you were captured torture and imprisonment till they broke you down and killed you anyway. So there were some bad sides to the skill, eventhough he was already thinking about how to combat these.
The first and foremost idea would be to not use it around people, if no one ever saw him actually use his magic then no one could tell that he had it, unless of course there were mages who could sense other mages, in which case he stood no hope, but he would burn that bridge when he got to it so for now he didn't consider it overly. Another option was wearing a disguise, a fake name and some apparel that would cover his face and any other noticeable features, that could work so long as he was never actually caught and he took pains to keep the alias as unlinked as he possibly could from himself. But what should he call himself, he wasn't to sure about that. Geoffrey? Kaine? Tyrion? Lionel?...Lionel....that sounded good enough, and so that was what he decided his alias would be called.
Ulric did a little dance on the spot, quite excited about the idea of having an alias that he could do his magic with, the fact that if he was ever cuaght it wouldn't matter if he had an alias barely even appeared in his mind, the danger in his head being outweighed by his natural sense of adventure and willingness to take risks.
For now though he needed to make sure that he could control his power properly for when the time came to use it, so once again he gathered the warm breeze blowing through his body, focussing it into a single outstretched palm pointing at the tree stump. While he was a fairly carefree person he did understand the use in learning how to use his natural power at least, but only because the opportunities for it's use were better if he better knew how to use it.

The power left him once again, although this time he was more ready for the sudden sensation of it leaving and so slumped fractionally less, and the wind once again flew out, hitting marginally closer to the middle of the stump, this time solidly hitting the top of it instead of only skimming it. "It's an improvement I guess" He muttered to himself as he felt the emptiness in him already filling once again.

Again, he thought, I must try again. The power was quite addictive for someone such as him who had never really wielded any power in their life, the mageling wanting to try more and more magic in an effort to improve his skills in a topic he had finally found that he was good at, well one of the things that he was good at would be more accurate. When one had travelled as much as he had and done what he had they acquired certain other skills that almost became a necessity for them to live more than anything.
Ulric though was just revelling in this newfound power, to him it was a whole new angle of his life to explore and exploit, and it was one that not just anyone could learn, he was special at least in this factor, and no manner of annoyed tutors could tell him to give up on the thing that he liked this time because they weren't here. And even if they were here, any power they had over him had been an illusion, they couldn't tell him what to do now anyway, he was his own man in charge of himself now.
Ulric felt it swirling in him, it recharged so quickly, he wondered if that was normal or if it was a trait other users didn't have, he wouldn't know until he met another user though, that would also probably be the best way to learn. But in a land where it was illegal how would he be able to find and approach another mage knowing they could well hand him over.
Oh well, for now he was focussing on the actual magic, he could focus on other things later on, for now...Ulric gathered it once again in his hand, finding that the easiest focuser for him to use, and so that being the one he would use, he'd had a good success rate so far.

Once again it came barrelling out and he let out an uncontrolled laugh as it flew into practically the same spot as the last, he must be getting the hang of this if it was working so much now, he felt as if there was progress even in such a small time as it had been.

Ulric had spent time practising his magic, and as such he had in fact forgotten that he was trying to get somewhere as people quite often do when they get very involved in something to the point where they forget all else that they were supposed to be doing before it. He was supposed to be going to the next town along of course, after having to flee the last one due to reasons.
Staring at the stump that had been his practice post he realised that in such a short space of time his life had changed so much, it had brought a large chance for adventure, mischief and fun of the kind that Ulric enjoyed anyway, but at the same time it brought with it a rather large amount of danger should he ever get caught using his magic. For now though before he even thought of that he wanted to gain proper control of it, and that in itself could only be gained through hard work, which even if he enjoyed the topic, was not to fond of.
He looked back at the stump, intending to simply walk off, and almost succeeding, but then he failed. "Ok, one last time then I guess before I go," He said, rubbing his hands together gleefully like a child after having convinced himself to go one last time.
Ulric held the power in his hand before thrusting it outwards at the stump in the same way he'd been practising so far, hoping it would work as usual.
