Arthurius had been surprised by the fact that there were guards on the gate here, then again it was his first time actually going into a major town such as this, Fordeth was a completely new experience for him, the size, the sites....the smell....the smell was a masssive and not very welcome new experience. It was the smell of many people in one place all at once where a percentage of this population refused to wash, or if they did then they did not wash well at all....it wasn't a good smell.
But it was kind of interesting to be in a place bigger than a village, sure he'd been in a large village before but never a city such as Fordeth was, it was a completely different experience, but it also meant that hopefully there'd be more shops and craftsman, possibly one that could teach him or a place at least where he could buy some decent gear or ingredients.
For now though he was just strolling down the street, enjoying the feeling of being in a town, it was quite interesting the fact that there seemed to be an endless amount of people who were seemingly appearing from nowhere and everywhere at the same time, just a tide of people going about their own business similar to him in that respect.
Now where would he have to look to find a real estate or an alchemist or something to help him to get started on his goals.

" We shall not stray for long Tom." " But Ma'am!" " Lady Mayor, Milady, Lady Guinevere, or Lady shall have to do!" Correcting him in the softest way she could, being called 'ma'am' made her feel too old. Another nick-name was added to the list of names she detested. " But, Milady, your injury and -" " Oh, shush, your face is much cuter shut." With a blush, the brown haired guard behind the lady dressed in a yellow dress went silent. He knew better than to argue with the Lady a second time. He may have staved off being fired a few weeks later, but the Lady could always force him to leave sooner. Firing was bad, but being dismissed on the job was worse. He looked around the streets warily. His eyes seeing a strange figure, black hair was normal but even from a distance the eyes were weird. The dragon shoulder made him think Julgrava, but that was much more an serpent eating his tail not the head of the beast. Tom didn't immediately like this stranger. Guinevere stopped dead in her tracks, admiring a shiny bauble that had caught her eye.

There wasn't a particularly large amount that caught the Alchemist's eye in this part of the city, he wasn't interested in the baubles and rough cut gems that were set out around this part, they had no function other than improving the aesthetics of ones person or house, they were an utter waste of money as far as he knew.
But what did catch his eye was the lady in the yellow dress, it seemed that she had her own personal guard following her around like a hound, it set her apart from all the others as someone of possible nobility or importance, if she needed a guard that would mean she had some importance otherwise everyone would be walking around with guards. Either that or she could afford one, meaning she'd have a lot of money and probably a lot of influence as well, but Arthurius didn't have a clue who she was.
The guard though, didn't seem to like the look of Arthurius, he seemed to be looking at him with an expression of distaste, was it his clothes? Was it his eyes? Was it the fact that he was casually sauntering along while everyone else seemed to be in a hurry to get somewhere. He didn't know, but all he knew was that the guard was looking at him, so being how he was Arthurius smiled and gave a half wave at the guard, resisting the urge to stick his tongue out at the man.

" He looks suspicious." Super tingly guard sense, ahoy! Though Tom could be a little annoying, and over protective Guinevere liked his company. He wasn't as stuck up and moody as the other guard her parents have previously placed her with. Tom was new, so he could be molded into the type of guard she wanted. Guin liked a little personality, so he would not yet be corrected on that. Though a time and place conversation would need to take place. " He looks harmless." The lady had turned to look at the man Tom had been pestering her about, smiling warmly. She looked fearlessly, and directly at the 'suspicious' man. This irked Tom a little, as the guard folded his arms. Looking a little muffled. Though Guinevere couldn't completely disagree with her guard's statement, there was something quite unsettling about his eyes. Something so unnatural caused a little discomfort. " We should be careful." Tom muttered darkly. Guinevere just shushed the guard.

So it seemed now that by responding to her guards show of attention he had attracted the attention of the lady herself, who instead of looking at her with distrust like her guard did, looked directly at him quite openly and with none of the hostility of her guard. It was nice to see that she did not treat him immediately hostile. She was even smiling at him which he had not been expecting in a million years.
Arthurius watched her and her guards exchange words as they looked at him, where they talking about him? They probably were considering they were looking directly at him still, whether they were talking about him in a decent manner or not he didn't really care, other people's opinions of him were something that he'd learned to ignore long ago, only his own opinion mattered.
Deciding that if he'd waved at the guard he should wave at her as well he gave her a smile and a wave as well, wondering what exactly they found so interesting about him.

" Now that we have caught his attention, we must call him over." Still pretty sure that the man was looking at them, and now paying attention. Well it was pretty likely, Tom was starting to cause a scene around them. Not many people knew who she was, so she was lucky that way. She could relax just a little in the streets of Fordeth. There were also witnesses all around them. Besides this man was not the one she needed to look out for. So maybe having even more people around her was wise. " Milady, why?" Guinevere gave the man a harsh look, blue eyes telling him to shush immediately. " Sir, if you would not mind humoring us for a moment." Part guilt went into this decision. She had made quite the stir around him. Guinevere waved back, while Tom frowned softly. Like this he did not. But the Lady had the final say in everything. Now she was just tormenting him. But it was a lesson. " I apologize that he can be so unfriendly."

They were still talking, and by now he was certain it was about him, both of them were still looking towards him, what was it exactly that made it so that people decided to pay attention to him even when he generally was not that interested in having their attentions. The guard still looked at him in a way he did not wish, almost as if Arthurius was an enemy or a threat, yet the lady showed none of this hostility still. He wondered what exactly was going through their minds and what was in their conversation, if only he could read minds or read body language, both of those could serve him rather well in this situation.
"Sir, if you would not mind humoring us for a moment."
It was assumed that she was talking to him, but what he had actually done that would merit a conversation with her was yet to be known, he had never met him before in her life and unless he was mistaken she had probably never even seen or heard of him. As oblivious as he was to his surroundings he had yet to notice the slight stir that this was causing around the two parties, but it was apparent to the lady and her guard apparently. The guard frowned at him and the lady smiled, this was going to be interesting.
Arthurius moved himself towards the lady, unsure whether he should bow or anything so deciding to do nothing at all, it was easier that way he tended to find.
"I apologize that he can be so unfriendly."
Arthurius assumed that the lady was talking about her guard, but he thought that he shouldn't stir things up between them so settled on a safe response. "It's no worry, i'm assuming that he was just looking out for your safety if anything." Hopefully this way the guard wouldn't be quite so hostile if he pretended to sympathise with the man when in truth he wasn't really bothered about what he thought or how he was. He gave a small smile to the guard before turning back to the lady, she seemed to be the dominant one out of the two.

"Trying." Managing a slight but if forced smile.
"You worry far too much, we are in Fordeth!" Lifting her arms up in emphasis.
"Didn't mean much yesterday-"
The look Guinevere gave Tom shut his mouth immediately. Her smile had turned into a tight frown.
"Ahh, I am Guinevere Lyethe- Lady Mayor of Viktoria. Who may you be?" Forcing back that smile from earlier. Now she was even more interested in seeing this man. His weird eyes were very interesting to look at. Even more as he was up closer to her. She wanted to ask, but wouldn't be quite that rude. It would be like the man making comments on the splattering of freckles across her nose. Even though the rest were hidden by make up, her eyes were colored with a pale green. And her bared shoulders did not show her freckle covered skin. As her hair was worn down and curly.

It seemed that his comment had done some of the work, it had loosened up the guard slightly, he seemed fractionally happier as he put on a smile that was almost certainly forced. The lady seemed rather happy though, especially of the fact that they were in Fordeth, although why that would make her so happy was beyond him. Sure it was a nice city, and it held lots of wonder, but for someone like her who'd presumably been to lots of cities, this one was just another stop, the same as any other.
And then the guard put his foot in it.....He said something that she didn't like which caused her mood to switch in a second and her to frown at him, instantly shutting him up in the process.
"Ahh, I am Guinevere Lyethe- Lady Mayor of Viktoria. Who may you be?" She said, switching back to her smile, although what her guard had said lingered in the air slightly, causing Arthurius to wonder what exactly he had been meaning, but it'd be impolite to ask so he didn't.
He'd known she was someone important, he'd been thinking it since the start and now his suspicions were confirmed which was rather nice as it meant he was right, he enjoyed being right. Arthurius stood as proudly as he could even though his name would mean absolutely nothing to these people in front of him. "Pleased to meet you, I'm Arthurius Vallance" Then realising that she had named her occupation as Lady Mayor of Viktoria he should probably name his.....but he was out of work so..... "Out of work Alchemist."
His non-existant title and the fact that he had no job made him sound particularly bad next to the Lady Mayor, but that was how he was and he had no interest in bigging himself up to others, he was how he was. Maybe if things went well enough anyway he wouldn't be out of work much longer, that'd be good, he needed the money for sure.

Was it too unkind to ask him if he had blown the place up? Probably so. She drew up the theory as to why his eyes were that way, but would keep that to herself. Tom turned his back to the two and walked a couple steps away, deciding to watch the crowd. Rather than paying attention to the two. He still didn't really like this, but he could at least watch for any other sort of threat.
"I hope not out of work for long! it is a pleasure to meet you, Arthurius!" Smiling at him again. But now it was time for business? Was this entire point of meandering close to her on the street?
There were letters he could send, city offices that he could bother to find a job. But Guinevere supposed he could just be over eager to find some source of income. Though why he was shopping was quite the question to her, unless it was all herbs and such he was searching for. Just not in this district of town.
"Are you looking for a place to work?" She asked, generally interested in what he had to say. Viktoria may be one of the smaller cities, but they still needed good workers.

"I hope not out of work for long! it is a pleasure to meet you, Arthurius!" She smiled straight after saying this, she seemed like a rather smiley sort of person, it was interesting considering he'd just seen the expression she'd shown to her guard that she was smiling so much now like nothing was happening.
Speaking of her guard in fact, he had left the two of them and instead was scanning the general public around them, presumably looking for danger and whatever else it was that guards did. But as far as guards went Arthurius had not seen many so he wouldn't know, but he presumed that this one seemed to at least be fairly good at his job otherwise why would he have been set to guarding the Lady-Mayor of Viktoria. He was not particularly sure where Viktoria was exactly but surely it was a decent sized place if it had a Lady-Mayor.
And then things went to business, he supposed that seeing as he'd mentionned that he was out of work it had probably started this conversation, so he should just expect the question of why he had no job exactly and what was wrong with him in that respect at least. But instead to his surprise she asked a completely different question, "Are you looking for ing a place to work?" Well of course he was looking, he had a 2125 ritz debt over his head, he'd be stupid if he wasn't looking for some sort of line of work, but of course the Lady-Mayor was not to know about his debts so it was a fair question.
"Yes I'm currently in the process of looking for work, but demand for Alchemists isn't particularly high nor are ingredients to easily come by nowadays meaning i have very little ingredients to work with and very little prospect to most employers. I have a small workshop to the west of here but....."And that that point he realised he was rambling massively," In short yes I am currently trying to find work"

" Do you run a store?" Asking a simple question. How could be out of work then? Perhaps that was a foolish question to ask. Despite how she may look and act for the moment, she was ill at ease. Not because of Arthurius, but it was unusually for her to have less than one guard at a time. Usually there was three, not just the one at her side. Tom was feeling it too, feeling a bit more nervous than usual. Tom was far too new for this, though Guinevere was throwing it off as no big deal, Tom was worried. " If you do run a store, I may have little reason to offer. But if you can fashion me a simple restorative, or toxic potion. My city has need of refilling our store fronts with such potions." Getting down to brass tacks was easy, and it was a genuine need. As mayor she saw what was needed for her city, and this was something she needed. Guinevere couldn't just trust the man based on his word, after all he could of done something bad to be fired.

"DO you run a store" It seems that his words had been misunderstood by Guinnevere, he'd probably phrased them badly in all fairness though so he went over it again. "Unfortunately no i don't run a store, i have a small workshop to the west where i do my work right now but i have no store or anything, just a space in this workshop." It was sad really as running a store would probably be rather nice, he could make money doing the thing that he loved.
"If you do run a store, I may have little reason to offer. But if you can fashion me a simple restorative, or toxic potion. My city has need of refilling our store fronts with such potions." A restorative potion? Well he had dragonfuit aplenty that he could possibly use for this, but as of this moment he had no base ingredients to add those dragonfruits to, toxins on the other hand were completely out of his territory, although if he remembered correctly a man called Ethan was familiar with them and could possibly be called upon for that job. Ethan had said he was running low on funds so it could be good for him.
"Unfortunately right now i'm in a position where i am running incredibly low on any sort of ingredient unfortunately meaning that I can probably create a restorative for you if you give me a long enough time period and a place to send them to. Toxic's however i have no knowledge of, toxicology is an interesting subject for sure but not one that I have learnt so I am unable to help you with your second request."
The lady looked rather unsettled, what was it that had her so on edge, surely she'd got past him and realised he wasn't particularly a threat to her hadn't she? Surely???

" A restorative is fine then." She gave him a minute to talk, listening to him carefully. Yes, that was all fine. After losing his job he likely had no money, and probaly had no supplies to speak of to do anything with. She expected him to need some time before finishing her request, Guin had nothing to loose if nothing came from this venture. After all, he had to supply something to her first. A shop, and further could be discussed at that point in time. " I understand that you need time, just send a sample to Viktoria. Send it with my name, and it will find me." Flippantly waving her hand. She would just need to warn somebody ahead of time, that she was not being poisoned or that it was a dangerous flask. That could be awkward, though somebody else would need to test it. Maybe a convict, something like that. Those were petty details. " If you can read that is, or can write. I forget to ask." Offering just in case. That happened sometimes.

It seemed that Guinevere was fine with just getting a restoratvie instead of both, which was great as Arthurius had no means to create the toxic's she required, they were not his speciality nor something that he currently even had an inkling of knowledge about other than knowing it was vaguely similar to alchemy in how it worked.
Arthurius nodded at Guinevere's comment about sending it down to Viktoria, it'd probably take some time to get there but it was fine by him, as soon as he had figured out how to make one himself he'd send his first success straight down to her and hope that she would reward him well enough so that he would have some funds, if things were looking up on him he might even get a job. But before that of course he'd have to actually make the damned thing which meant more gathering, he might need to get an assistant to help him as the amount of work he was doing would soon be to to much for one person, although the assistant would be unpaid as he couldn't afford to give them a wage, he was never going to find an assistant willing to work for free.
"If you can read that is, or can write. I forget to ask." Arthurius chuckled slightly at this, were there really that many illiterate's around that she had to ask him about something as basic as this, how would he live in his line of work if he couldn't read labels or recipes as well as without being able to record results.
"As soon as the restorative is made it'll be sent straight away to you, with your name to Viktoria, and I am fully able to read and write, those who can't do so in my job tend not to get to far."
