Date: some time in 199 ATD.
A while ago, Jakob arranged a meeting with Mr. Gallant.
They met in his office to sign the papers of property transfer. Jakob walked in, shook the man's hand, hung his coat on the back of the chair, sat comfortably in its plush leather. They had a bit of small-talk, but not much.
Cut to the business. "A Manor House will do." He had made his money on the government's salary, and had saved up long for a house fitting his status. Until this point, he'd been living in a rather small cottage outside of town. It had only reinforced his idea that the poor were kept unfairly poor--if you couldn't live inside the city, you had to live outside, and pay the toll at the city's gate to get in for the higher-paying jobs, or take a terrible-paying job outside the city. It was terribly unfair, and one of his first actions would be to get rid of the damn gate toll, if he ever...
Right, the house. "What locations are available for purchase? I'd prefer one near to the castle, shorten my commute." Whatever it was, he had the necessary funds with him at the time--for both the initial deposit and first month's maintenance--and would gladly rid himself of the heavy gold pieces sooner rather than later.

"These twenty pieces of property fit the description you're asking for."
The deposit was taken and added to the coffer.

Jakob looked at the map. He said--under his breath, but so that Mr. Gallant could hear--"You know, we really ought to name all the streets in town. Come up with a numbering system for addresses. Certainly would make getting around a lot easier..." He looked up briefly. The man didn't care, of course. But planting the idea certainly couldn't do any harm.
"Here, this one," he pointed to a spot on the map, one quite near the gates of the castle. "Make that nineteen pieces of property."
He spent the rest of the week moving into his new digs, and gave the cottage away to a sharecropper whose children had grown too old to stay under the same roof as their parents.
