After escaping from Karligar Rock and proceeding dozens of miles to Hillsfar, a region unbeknownst to the two half-breeds to be a SKC territory still under their control, the two women stopped less than a mile outside of town by a hill. They were utterly exhausted, and at wits end. They were woefully unprepared to travel. Without horse or camping equipment they were doing their best to walk the distance. They still had over a hundred miles as the crow flies to their destination. Telle'Korasus was far, but it was home. It also meant safety. Yet here they were, in an isolated SKC territory.
A territory whose garrison was likely becoming desperate. On one side there was Karligar, on the other, another duchy. The eastern lake, whose name neither of them remembered bordere hillsfar to the north. To the south was Skaraptica, and the New Skaldira territory they had heard about from the Alliance when they were in Innorsford.
An argument broke out between them on their next destination. Telle'Korasus was close, but there was a lot of land left to cover, and they had no transportation or food or water left. Fyrra and Merrake conversed in their language.
"Stopping at Hillsfar is the obvious choice, of course. However, Telle'Korasus is quite a ways off and there's no guarantee that we'll reach it in one piece without horse or map. I cannot navigate, it is luck that we are even this close to Hillsfar."
"Which may be an SKC controlled town. Listen, if we head south we can meet up with the Skaldi. They are at least known allies in this war."
"And how far is that from Hillsfar?"
The Kalimbra looked incredulous. She knew about how far it was. A few more days. Where ever they were going was always a few more days away.
"Two and a half days by foot, through Skaraptica to New Skaldira."
"And Telle'Korasus is more than a hundred miles away."
"I'll never make it two and a half days. We're out of water, and we're out of food. Let's see if I can at least procure that much in town."
"No way you're going alone. Not this time."
"And pray tell, what disguise will you wear for the potentially hostile town? At least I can go in with a disguise. I can appear to be one of the Hanneth. You'll obviously appear as yourself, and they'll see right through you."
"If they're friendly we won't need disguises. If they're hostile, we break for New Skaldira."
"And if they have cavalry to run us down?"
"Listen, Kalimbra. There's no point in arguing like this. We're getting nowhere and we have places to be. We can argue back and forth all day and waste away the sun about how this might happen or that might happen. Nothing will happen if we stay here. Nothing for certain but death."
"Fine, we're in agreement then. If we can't stay in Hillsfar to replenish our stock and maybe acquire transportation to Telle'Korasus, then we go south to Alliance territory."
"Thank you. I'll lead."
Merrake stood first, and the Kalimbra followed. They walked towards town at a brisk pace. Both were afraid in their own way of what was going to happen.
