Personality: Though largely driven by anger, Rithaleya has learned to keep it mostly under control, as she's learned letting it get the best of her tends to mean that she doesn't get to eat. Though she isn't especially uncongenial, she doesn't like 'having fun', and tends to only tolerate the company of others when they help her do what she'd already be doing on her own, without them. She carries her family's prejudice toward non-elves, though high elves remain a particular source of rage for her.
History: Rithaleya's mother was a wood elf garrison officer, and she was raised by her mother's extended family in their household--which was essentially a military faction--until she was old enough to move into the barracks. As a bastard child, it wasn't an easy life, but it was one with few responsibilities and many freedoms not often afforded to anyone without at least a tangential relationship to the ruling class in her homeland.
She learned to hunt in the wilderness as a way to escape from the taunts, ribbing, and bullying brought on by her mixed heritage, and practiced archery as a means to achieve independence, to defeat rivals in contests, and to dream of someday getting back at those who'd enjoyed more privilege in life than her. Her mother unselfishly helped with this, in private, despite denying that Rithaleya was her legitimate child (a much more impressive feat for a mother than it is for a father.)
Rithaleya wasn't skilled to compete with her rivals, however, and spent more and more time away from the barracks, due to her frustration with her near-constant humiliation at the practice yard. It seemed the closer she came to success, the more attention she drew from many of her kin, other elves, and even jealous humans who did not want her to earn any regular place in the garrison, the household, or indeed anywhere else in society.
When the war began, she wasn't ready to help in any great way. Worse, the empire was turning against those of non-elven blood more than ever. She lingered as a scout and joined foraging parties on the frontier, but it seemed her days were numbered if she stayed to fight to the finish--if her family allowed that at all. She managed to 'accidentally' become separated from her party, and when she'd completed her mission, she went to visit the nearest human settlement rather than tracking down those she knew.
