Duke Redgar Karligar and 800 cavalry passed into Corday territory via the highway. The first item on his list of conquest was to establish a beachhead in Corday territory. Doing so meant finding the local garrison and executing it's leadership.

Redgar was impressed with the skill his men exhibited in what was essentially the first time they had executed such a daring raid on a stronghold. The garrison in Briacque was taken easily. They had managed to surround it, break in, and capture the entirety of the garrison in one day without ever being challenged in actual combat. Redgar executed the garrison leader himself after reading a list of charges that Katrina had prepared for him. Morale in his army was high, and his cavalry wanted to press on to Cordelay immediately and be done with this war quickly. Redgar, however, did not expect to take Cordelay as easily. The Corday Duchy's central county was heavily garrisoned. It even had siege equipment from what he had heard from the locals in Briacque. They could not divulge such things as the force size or composition, only that there were a lot of them and they had war machines.
That did not bode well for Redgar's troops. He only had Cavalry, and they would only do well in an open field. Urban combat was more suited for infantry and sharpshooters than horsemen. Even siege equipment would do better against an urban environment if positioned far enough away.
He could besiege the town, surround it, and cut off access to the outside. But that would announce himself. Instead he opted to wait until reinforcements arrived from Karligar Rock. He was depending on Katrina to furnish him with more troops and supplies.
It was now a short waiting game. Would Corday's forces notice and rally, or would he be able to make a sneak attack on the heart of Corday duchy and seize control of it all?
After a day of waiting, he could stand it no longer.
He struck in the middle of the night, seizing the town and manor house with ease. No one had expected them.

Corday Duchy Capitol Seized. Player not activated. Defection Roll: 1D4 => 2
2 Of Corday's other counties automatically defect to Karligar's side. Those counties are most adjacent to his territory.
Remaining 2 counties become Lawless.
Conquest Gains:
1. Cordelay County Capital of Corday Duchy Population 8027
2. Pasique County Population 1643
5. Briacque County Population 1014
6. Liminous County Population 1732
Total Population Gain: 12,416 -35% (penalty) = 8,068.45
Tools -Hammer (looted from buildings) -Pick-Axe (Looted from buildings) -Farm Tools (Looted from buildings)
Buildings -Farms (Destroyed) -Fisheries (Destroyed)
Materials Captured -None
Soldiers Captured -None.
Casualties -400 cavalry killed.
Several hours later I've reread my own skill and obviously forgot about the contingency that it can only be used once a thread.
As a self penalty I'm greatly reducing the conquest gains Karligar would be receiving by cutting the pop gain by 35%, reducing captured soldiers to 0 (including those legitimately captured), reducing materials captured to 0, and destroying both resource structures that were captured. This will cost Karligar more in the interim as now he has even more territory that is under famine conditionsn with no additional troops to guard his territory or police his land. I've also extended the penalty to his own men, marking 400 cavalry as dead. I'll do a post putting all this down as narrative as Karligar tomorrow.

He had thought he had made a clean conquest of Corday. He was wrong. After his men had breached the manor and taken control of the duchy, they started executing those in charge. The noble house's servants and administrators were first. Their heads rolled down the manor's steps by Redgar's blade. None of them had provided a compelling argument as to why they should live. They said things like they were capable. They would be good servants like they were to the Corday and to the Farisca before them. None of that appealed to Karligar. They were of no practical use to him and as such their heads rolled.
Then he came to appealed young woman who had been caught in the house. Mariliene DuPasca. A simple looking girl. When it was her turn Karligar asked her the same question.
"Now, what can you say that will keep me from executing you?"
"Nothing. What I can do is different."
"Oh?"
"I'm a smith. The best in the duchy. You could use someone like that."
"I can. Load her into a wagon. We're taking her back to Karligar Rock."
Karligar's men did as they were bade. In the following days before he left the county, more and more of Corday's troops fled their captors. Some set fire to useful industrial buildings. Others murdered their guards and took their families with them into lawless land. When all was calm again Karligar was still pleased with the spoils he had gained from the short war despite his losses. What was more, Katrina would be pleased.
Redgar stationed half of his remaining men in Cordelay, which would soon be renamed again, after only having its current name for a generation. Then the Duke made off with his spoils of land deeds and such to Karligar rock, with the smith Mariliene DuPasca in tow.
