"And it's not just the non-humans they have to worry about, I doubt my people will bend the knee and willingly serve as part of the army, I hope they give them a good fight if try to march up the Darthaks," despite his words Thrawn was worried about his people getting dragged into a war with the non-humans, they do love to fight but they always had a strenuous relationship with the Cruintheian government and being told what to do.
With the corpse in front of him Thrawn got started with the gutting and skinning using his axe. He was a bit rusty at it but he manage to clean the beast and remove all its useless organs. When the messy work was done, there were three slabs of meat ready to be cooked.
"If you're done cleaning up could you fetch us some firewood?" Thrawn asked as he himself cleaned the blood off his armor, weapon, and hands.

"I hadn't realised the laws effected those in the north also, I've not seen the official letters only heard from others so I've yet to get the full picture of how it's going to effect everything else other than the Drokagr, Elkagr and Skaldi."
Thrawn seemed to know what he was doing with the gutting and skinning, Kell looked over from the water as he washed himself and observed how the organs and parts they couldn't eat were separated from the edible meat. It was only then he remebered the knives he had, now sitting along with his drying clothes, he probably should have offered one to Thrawn, cutting the corpse and getting the meat likely would have been easier with a knife than it was with an axe. Oh well, it was to late now, and he seemed to have done it well enough.
Kell waded out of the water, hanging his leather vest and top from a nearby branch along with his bow and arrows, putting his sash around his waist and securing his sword to it. He wasn't going to go far from the bank to collect wood but there was no harm in keeping his sword on him at least just as a safety measure. "Sure i'll get us enough for a bit of a campfire, might as well dry our clothes while we are cooking." Kell began picking up smaller twigs and dry leaves, carrying several large bundles back before he progressed to bigger pieces of wood, it'd be easier if they had some sort of oil or other firestarter to get things going but it looked like they'd just have to do it the simple way.

"From what I've read, every citizen who doesn't report for conscription is a traitor, which is why I fled Sorath, also I have no intention of giving them my weapons either, I worked hard to make that mace," Thrawn said a little proud of his handiwork.
Once Kel had brought the wood, Thrawn would start putting the campfire together. He had to make a few during his trip from Sorath to Innsford but he still had not gotten the hang of it and it would usually take a while for him to get a fire stared. After setting up Thrawn attempted to light the bundle of twigs and leaves. Nothing came out of his first attempt with the two rocks that he tried to use to make a spark. That was what he expected, so he tried again anyways. He was more lucky on the second strike and the spark flew out from the rocks and started the fire.
"Ha! Who needs magic am I right?" Thrawn said as he fanned the flame so it spreads to the rest of the wood that was stacked on top of the tinder.
Once the fire got going, Thrawn realised something that he should have discussed earlier with Kell.
"You don't happen to have a bowl, or anything we can use to cook with? We can use the twigs as skewers, but that limits our options to eating mostly burned salamander."

"Quite right, why should you be forcibly conscripted into the army of your oppressor, at least here in the South we are somewhat free. I've settled in a small county down here and I've definitely got no plans of going off and fighting for him. Against him however is another matter." Kell examined the mace that Thrawn had, it seemed a sturdy enough construction, most likely it appeared to be made of bone. If it was made of bone then it was a good thing he'd given Thrawn the remainder of the bones, he could likely make better use of them than Kell could. "If I had a mace like yours I'd say the same, I have no skills at making things unfortunately, there's a blacksmith where I live but I'm not even sure if he's capable of working bone." He'd have to ask Kevin that actually when he got back, it'd be good to know his capabilities.
When he came back with the next load of flammables Thrawn had managed to get a fire started, it'd be nice to have a bit of warmth, not least because it meant that Kell could dry his clothes off, the food also would be quite nice. Kell selected several branches from nearby trees and cut them off, sharpening one end into a stake and jamming them into the ground near to the fire, hanging his bits of clothing on them so that they were spread out and would hopefully dry quicker.
The commend he'd made about magic was slightly concerning, he assumed that it was just an offhand thing and Thrawn hadn't meant anything by it but he resolved to still be careful around the subject. WHen Thrawn asked about a bowl however they had a slight issue. "Ah, a bowl? No...I hadn't expected to need one. Well that makes the salamander stew a dream only I guess."

"Bone is rather tricky to work with, but I think it makes for a really good club or mace. I'm not much of a smith so I'm glad it didn't fall apart when I tried it for the first time," Thrawn said as they got set up to eat.
The fire got going with some fanning and blowing the heat was just right for them to cook on. "Well I guess we're roughing it then," Thrawn said when he found out there was nothing for them to cook with. With a shrug he took some of the twigs and washed them in the river before using them as skewers for the meat. Thrawn passed two along to Kell and kept one for himself. He tried to delicately rotate the salamander meat around the fire but he might as well had dropped for it was burnt almost instantly.
"Wel...shit." Thrawn said with a sigh, he was glad no one from his clan was watching for he would have become even more of a laughing stock. With shrug Thrawn continued to try to get the meat somewhat edible.
"If you don't mind me asking, what was that tension about with Fyrra and Merrake during the mission?" Thrawn asked his curiosity getting the better of him, despite him already getting an answer from the Kalimbra he wanted to know Kell's side of it as well.

They soon had quite a nice fire going which suited him just fine as the wet clothes were beginning to become slightly bothersome. Kell scooted slightly closer to the flames in hopes of drying out his clothes a bit quicker, still retaining enough distance though that he was safe. "Roughing it, sure."
Thrawn had taken only one of the meat slabs and passed Kell the other two, threading his own onto a makeshift spit and holding it over the flames, it was unfortunate but the piece of meat burnt near instantly. Kell wasn't entirely sure what the problem had been, he had very little experience with cooking over an open fire like this so it was going to be interesting for him as well it seemed. The first skewer he dug into the ground to hold it there for the time being while he held the second over the fire, turning it gently to try and cook it evenly. It suffered the same fate as Thrawn's, burning up so quickly that it felt like he'd blinked and it'd turned black.
Kell turned a sheepish look towards Thrawn before picking up the second, holding it further away from the flames and watching it far more carefully, turning it gently to evenly cook the meat, this one fared a lot better and didn't burn, instead, it seemed quite edible so far.
He did almost drop it in the fire however when Thrawn asked about the tension between him and the other Drokagr at the last time they'd met, it was quite an unexpected question and so took him by surprise. "Amongst my kind the females hold the power, males are seen as a lower form often and are seen as lesser, often viewed with distrust by our women." It was quite disheartening really, but that was the way things were, at least out here in the rest of Cruinthe it wasn't really the case, instead, his kind was just illegal on a whole. He let out a great sigh and shrugged at Thrawn as if to say what can you do really.
