Their flight from Sorath had been rapid. As soon as the situation began to look too ugly it was time to leave. Merrake and Fyrra packed their bags, told Thrawn where they were going and left in the middle of the night. They arrived in Innorsford about a week later, tired from the road but no worse off. Supposedly Innorsford was safe. It was Republic territory, ergo, Alliance territory. Initiative members like themselves would be welcome.
They arrived at the Tipsy Darkling, rented a room, paid for two baths. The Kalimbra went first. Merrake held a table.
While Fyrra was in the bath she thought about how they were getting further and further away from home. There was no way back. It hurt.
The dry season was brutal on her skin, to prevent herself from drying out and becoming like a salamander she chose to air dry in the common room. She sat down next to her bodyguard wearing just her sheer silk sarong. Merrake said nothing and went to the bath herself, leaving the Kalimbra alone in the common room.

Thrawn stood at a cross road. The Barbarian did not wait long to follow his friends to Innsoford, he did not want to stay in Sorath and get conscripted, so he told them he would leave as well but he did not specify where he will go. He snuck out of the city without incident and made it to the crossroad.
That was when he had to make a choice. East and Innsford or North and Darthak, home. Thrawn did not know if the Mad King was going to conscript his people as well, but he did know that if he tried they would fight, and they would lose. Yes his people were strong, but there was a reason that no matter how many times they had tried to brake away from the kingdom they failed. They were too divided to fight off the armies of Cruinthe.
What would happen if he went, could he really make a difference, would his pleas for unity finally be heard if he warned them? Thrawn doubted it, but turning away from his people was not easy.
On the other hand he could stay, help fight the injustices of Julgrava's rule. Maybe that way he could make a difference? Either way, there was no clear answer.
Thrawn prayed to his ancestor for guidance and made a choice.
He did not walk into the tavern as much as dragged himself. His body ached and his head was pounding by the time he got there. He immediately went to the table Fyrra was sitting at and let this things fall to his side he himself collapsed onto the chair.
He croaked out a weak "hey" as he drank from his waterskin and spilled the last of it on his head to cool down. He shook himself and cleared his throat. "Any trouble on the way?"

"I wouldn't call it trouble. We did run into an interesting young lady from the sea."
Fyrra fanned herself with her hands. Sweat rolled off her bare chest. She was convinced she was going to die of heat stroke. Merrake came out from where the rooms and the bath is then. She was dressed similar to Fyrra, though she had a propensity to cover up, where Fyrra did not. Merrake also had a cloth covering her top.
"Ah, Thrawn! Good to see you."
"Did you have any trouble on the way?"

Thrawn raised an eyebrow in answer to the comment about the lady from the sea but said nothing. His exhaustion outweighed his curiosity, he made a mental note to ask about the stranger later on, he hoped he would remember. When Merrake arrived in the common room Thrawn could not help but smile despite his state.
"You too Merrake," his eyes lingered on her perhaps a second too long before turning to answer the Fyrra's question.
"No, I..." Thrawn trailed off thinking about the decision he made at the crossroads, about home, about his family. "It was exhausting but uneventful," he said in the end;this was not the time to think about his past decision, it was time to consider the present.
Thrawn got up to the bar to order a pitcher a water and three cups. "So what now?" he said as he set down the tray and began to fill the cups.

"I would like to return to Korasus, but that seems very unlikely to happen now. I think the best thing to do is move forward. There are bound to be initiative members withing the Alliance. We should join them."
The Kalimbra said at length.
"I agree. Safety in numbers. Innorsford is an alliance base, no?"
"I've seen republic troops, but I don't know if it's a shared territory. I'm not well informed on this subject."
"Regardless. I think we should try to be of use."
Both women picked up their water glasses and drank. They had been a little parched. The tavern itself had a sort of dark tone that they were not used to. The weapons on the walls were interesting. Merrake was curious about them more than Fyrra. The Kalimbra's mind was otherwise occupied with thoughts concerning the sudden war against her culture and people.

"I'm all for fighting back against this madness, I'll back you up whatever you decide to do," Thrawn chugged his own drink, and filled another cup for himself.
Thrawn's head was still throbbing, but the water helped him cool down, he started drinking from the second cup more slowly as he regained his composure. "There has to be a way to get the factions to work together, I can't imagine they can afford their petty squabbles while these new laws are in place," finally able to think clearly Thrawn tried to put together some sort of plan while they were stuck in Innsford.
"Either way we ought to get settled here while we gather information, then we can get a better idea what to do next," Thrawn let himself sink into his chair, although he desperately wanted to go take a bath, his body refused to budge from the seat.

"Yes, I agree. We should get settled here. We may be stuck in this town for a while, Kalimbra."
"Indeed, I am of the same mind. We have a room here at this tavern. You should get one too while there is space. I have a feeling that this town is going to fill up fast since it is one of the few free ones left. Perhaps we should look into buying some property?"
Fyrra had never suggested owning property before. She hadn't been back to Korasus in a long while, and she originally lived with her parents. Owning her own property wasn't something that had ever crossed her mind, but it would have been nice to have a place to call home. Merrake looked at Fyrra when she brought it up. Concern played across her face.
"Kalimbra, it will be hard. When your audit comes up in Floras, you'll have to report it. They might take it from you."
"I know but-"
"But I do agree it would be nice to have a place. I've never had a place of my own. Never really had a home."
"It's just a thought. I don't have the money for it, and neither do you. We'll be stuck renting for a while."

"I'll look into getting a place, I've been saving up for setting up a place for myself," Thrawn was planning on settling in Sorath but that seemed impossible in current circumstances.
"If I can afford it I'll try to get a place for the three of us."
Thrawn chuckled at the idea. He had spent most of his life living in tents, huts and at most small wooden houses. The idea of him buying a big place and living with his friends was strange but in a funny way.
"We have to look for ways to make some quick money, maybe check for bounties or monsters to hunt nearby."

"We could probably spare a couple hundred Ritz for this purpose."
"Yes. It shouldn't impact our ability to eat, and will take care of our safe place to sleep need."
"It'll just be upkeep and taxes then. Shouldn't be that hard to scrape up the gold for that. One or two good jobs shold pay for that.."
They mused about the idea of pitching in for a moment in their own language and decided that if Fyrra gave the money to Thrawn as a gift she wouldn't be in violation of any codes regarding property for a Kalimbra when her audit came around.
"Yes, if that is workable for you, Thrawn, we will be fine with helping contribute."

"That solves that problem then," Thrawn said after crunching some numbers in his head. This might be a great long term investment for them instead of having to constantly pay for lodging.
Despite everything that has happened to him Thrawn was glad he made the choice to leave his village and journey south. It was unlikely that life there would evolve past fighting for the sake of fighting, rather than having some kind of cause. Despite his personal quest to uncover the history of Cruinthe was on hold, he had a feeling that his adventures here were likely to get him somewhere.
"Anything else we need to take care of?"

"We just need to find work. And maybe some better equipment. I'm not much of a fighter, but I'd rather not be killed by a stray arrow."
Fyyra said. Merrake nodded her head in approval. The hardened leather armor the Kalimbra wore would do little to actually protect her. It would fall to Merrake to take a certainly fatal blow for the Kalimbra. The thought made her shiver. Though she did not mind dying she didn't give it the religious reverence some Drokagr might.
