The very day they received the letter from Duke Mardok, Redgar and Mina Karligar set out to join him in his duchy. It was a trip, by road, of about five hundred miles. With their dire wolves they could cross that in about a span of five days. They packed provisions good for a week in case they got lost, their arms and armor of course, and set out on the road. They proceeded southwest first, to pick up the highway and head across towards Morith. They made it to the fork in the road in a days worth of riding. There they started to set up camp for the night in one of the old rings of stones next to the fork. There were other people camped there as well. Civilians traveling the road.
"I don't suppose we need a fire. It's been very warm the past few days."
"Just lay out the bed rolls. The wolves will lay next to us. We'll have all the protection and heat we'll need."
"Good idea."
Redgar did just that, the wolves, Baalrung and Cardag laid next to their riders both protecting them and keeping them warm. The animals woke up several times that night, keeping both robber and animal at bay by their mere presence and awareness. They were huge, and powerful. Their jaws could rip a man to shreds easily. The night was uneventful otherwise.

The following Morning Redgar and Mina woke up to begin their journey anew. The day's destination was the Tesiak crossing between Morith and Sorath. They would have a short layover in Morith on the way for lunch and to restock their supplies. Provided they didn't run into any trouble along the way. The journey wouldn't be too smooth regardless of whether or not anyone harassed them. The terrain towards Morith was mostly uphill as they had dropped into the Skaraptica and Verenald basin from Kushfire to get to the fork in the highway. Now they climbed back up to enter the Navarre.

The party was slowed considerably by the slopes however, losing almost five hours in total to the climb up the dozen or more miles to get to the hill. There as they crested it Redgar began to notice the signs of a battle. Or he thought he did. They looked around for a few minutes before moving on. There was some blood on some rocks, and some scrapes upon the ground, but other than that nothing out of the ordinary. Those things could have been caused by just about any beast this side of Cruinthe.
Five hours out of a good twelve that they could have used riding was wasted on such a short distance due to Redgar and Mina's ineptitude. Not that he would ever admit it, or even thought such a thing. However, they still made it to Morith by the time the sun started to go down. Instead of pressing on to the bridge, they stopped at an inn and spent the night there.

After spending the night over in Morith, Redgar started his next day of travel bright and early. The objective was to make it to Sorath before nightfall. Whether or not the road would cooperate, or his mount would cooperate for that matter, was another thing entirely. He mounted his beast, as did Mina, and they set out of the city before the sun crested the Darthaks in the far east, not that he could see it do such a thing. The Kushfires were much closer and blocking his view of the Darthaks.
They rode along, expecting to remain unharassed and unharmed at all turns. Expecting that no one would bother an obvious noble and his companion. Why would they?

Alas, they would not quite make it to Sorath before the sun went down. The river crossing was full of traffic, and the backups from refugees moving around the highway was infuriating. At long last Redgar decided to forgo the road proper and ride parallel to it across the hills, losing over a dozen miles in the process. There was still some distance to make before they would reach the city. They set up camp and went to bed, with Redgar at first watch.

They both woke up at the crack of dawn. As the sun started to light up the sky they packed back up and moved on. They made it to Sorath and reloaded their supplies for their travels. They left the city shortly after mid morning heading west to cut across the rest of Sorath Province and into the western duchies. Mardok Duchy was in the northwestern part of the country. He knew where he was going generally. The highway would take him there, at least most of the way. Then they would have to cut overland to the north.
They made it about halfway across the province before they needed to stop for the night, not getting the full eighty miles in.

Instead of continuing west, Redgar decided to start heading Northwest so they could get closer to the Mardok Duchy. Mallon forest would come into the picture about two thirds of the way in their new direction, as well as the point where the two rivers converge. He was hoping that they would be able to make the full eighty miles that day. But there were issues with the wolves. They kept smelling things. This flower, that pile of dung. That other thing. It was like they had never been in a forest before. They only made it half the distance they tried to go. As soon as they got into the forest, it was Distraction City, Cruinthe for the wolves.
The Duke was unhappy with the wolves. They only received a half ration for their bad behavior.

They had spent almost a week on the road so far. Traveling to Mardok Duchy was much harder than Redgar had initially counted on. Mina was furious with him. For all the detours and shortcuts. Nothing bad would have come of them if they had simply stuck to the highways, gone north the whole of the way from Sorath, and then headed west from there to Mardok. But no, Redgar insisted that traveling through Mallon was faster. They eventually made it to the river, and began to follow it north, against the current, looking for a safe crossing before traveling any further. On the other side of the river was Mardok. On the side they were stuck on, Fordeth province. That sixth day they made great progress, nearly accomplishing the total eighty miles they set out to do. They reached the bridge crossing between Fordeth Province and Mardok Duchy, and camped there. It was a high traffic area. They had plenty of visitors in the night.

The following morning they set out bright and early to reach the capital of Mardok Duchy before lunch. There was a campaign to be a part of, dammit. Redgar wanted nothing more than to be done with the boring normal traveling that he was involved with. Military pursuits awaited him! He pressed on the wolves. They did not make his lunch time deadline however, but arrived just as the day was over in Mardok.
