Tyr sat in front of his workshop idly chewing on an herb to see if it did anything to him. As smart as the man could be with a wide variety of materials plants were not his forte. Alchemy and herbalism in general were completely foreign to him, the idea that chewing a plant could potentially kill him on the spot didn't seem to register. All in all though the Lord's Glove didn't seem to be doing much other than having a bitter, earthy taste to it. No matter, after a while it'd be gone and he could move on to something else.
Trying to determine what Lord's Glove is useful for by eating it. Tyr's a genius ladies and gentlemen. DC 35. bqAs7YyK Success! Tyr learned the property of Lord's Glove. Somehow.
The more important reason he was outside and basking in the sun was an impending arrival. Na'ka was due back from the old Saurian any time now with a codex he could use to learn the Skaldi language. He was somewhat jittery in anticipation, one leg constantly bouncing up and down with nervous energy. With this he would be one step closer to being able to bring all the peoples closer together, as far as he knew he'd only be missing the ability to speak Drokagr. Maybe Allyria could teach him sometime.

Na'ka had a hard time trying to find the old hermits cave this time. It seemed like Tyr Mardok and her employer Kable, had led her on a goose chase for that old Skaldi. By the time she got there, it had been late in her trip. The old one made her stay a night as he put the finishing touches on the codex. When he handed it over to her the following morning she had taken it with reverence. Her language was contained within its pages. It was almost like a holy thing to her. It felt wrong to give it to a human, but that was the job. When she arrived in front of the Duke's workshop, he was chewing on a flower.
"Did you eat ssomethink bad? Glove of Lordsah, is for the blood."
Na'ka took the book out from her satchel, and scratched around her missing eye in one motion, then passed it to him. She almost didn't.
"This.. this important. When you humanss finally kill us all, it will be all that'ssah left of our language. You might not be able to sstop the great death of our race, but maybe you can sstop the great death of our language."
She believed that to be true. That the human's hate would outweigh their good eventually. That they'd give in to their base instincts like animals, and wipe the Skaldi from the whole of the world. It was not a thought she enjoyed. It made her angry that it could ever come to be. But she had seen them enslave her people. They believed her people to be less than humans. It was a short step to simply devalue the Skaldi as a whole, for the Skaldi's lives to mean nothing. They already meant so little to a person.

For the blood eh? A useful flower then, it would make a good starting point to exploring the herbal side of crafting things. At the very least a badly made potion wasn't likely to poison him when he tested it. Na'ka was acting differently though. Normally she was perfectly profession in her deliveries, wanting a signed receipt and to leave. Here she seemed...stressed about this delivery. Her words gave truth to the his instinct.
"I will do all that I can to stop the death of both, and this book will be what allows me to start. Thank you Na'ka, for going to get it and for giving it to me. I will protect it with everything I have." He took the codex with great care, holding it with both hands like it contained the wisdom of all life. He knew of no humans that could speak the Skaldi tongue, if there were any. This was an honor he barely understood, and so the book would be guarded and kept from others for now. If he found a way to judge someone as a friend to the Skaldi then, and only then, would he share with them the knowledge of the language.
"If there is a way I can repay you for this gift, you have only to let me know."

Na'ka shrugged. She did not understand the Duke Mardok in general. He was a nice man. Good person in general. There were very few of those. Kable treated her and her kind well, but they were servants in a way. They were not in charge of anything. There were appearances that had to be kept up in case someone came asking about them. Being Skaldi was hard. Being good to the Skaldi was hard too.
"Not my gift. Old Skaldi's gift. Would there be anything elsse?"
Na'ka hissed. Straight back to professionalism. The moment was over. She was not about to let a moment like that continue on. It would look bad for Kable to have such an emotional delivery person. She did not want any sort of attention in that regard. If there was nothing else, she would leave the same way she came without a word otherwise.

Just like that the moment passed. There was nothing for it, Na'ka was a consummate professional. Getting under her skin would take time and effort, learning the language would be a first step. Assimilating the culture would help after that, but if what Nockmantool had said was correct then Na'ka might not be the best person to learn it from. He'd have to find another way.
"No, that will be all. Thank you." She'd handed him the money for the warehouse when she arrived with the delivery in the first place, as far as he remembered their business was concluded for now. Once Na'ka had safely departed Tyr would take the codex up to his manor house and head to his barely furnished study. It had gone mostly unused since his father passed. Tyr's apprenticeships had taken place outside the manor, his mother had no use for it, and his siblings were otherwise occupied. Drawing the curtains over the window Tyr gently opened the pages of the codex and started reading.
Reading check. K (35) + Literacy II/High Cruic II (20) + Normal (0) = DC 55 _4l6ijfK Success! Tyr learned Sissak I.
The basics of the language were difficult, but understandable. To a human it would seem like a controlled series of grunts, hissing and other sounds, with the addition of a LOT of body language. Nak'mantul was right, without a tail it would be fairly difficult to copy everything. The best he could do was get close and hope it was understood.
