In the more seedy part of a market, a trader shows off his ware - special pets and possible butlers, companions for lonely cold nights and meat shields for large group operations. Slaves of flesh and mind, all priced by the interested buyers. Some are taken, some just sent back, as nobody wants them. Letrune is sent back a few times, as nobody wants to pay out the price of 500 coins... And after a few times, as her price sinks, she is moved out from the minimum of 50 coins. "Ladies and gentlemen!" The trader goes. "This is an exotic pet for a bargain! She can clean and serve, even dance; for a mere 50 coins we start to sell it. Look on her! Might not look much, but she can learn!"

Duke Redgar Karligar was not a man that minces words. Nor was he the man that doesn't pick a fight when there's a fight to pick. So what did he do strolling through the seedier part of Morith's markets? He picked a fight. With a guy that was apparently selling a woman. Now he had seen people that sold a prostitutes time before. He never needed to pay for that kind of service. But this person he stumbled across, while looking for shady characters to employ for murder and such, demanded his attention just by being strange.
"Good man, what in the screaming hells are you trying to peddle here. Is this a human slave you're trying to pass off as some kind of pet?"
If there was one thing Redgar was against, it was probably slavery. Probably. Don't quote me on that. He's generally not a very nice person. Who knows what his motives are for getting involved here other than starting a fight.

The merchant stops during a very interesting part about the offer he has. People slink away by the sight of the Duke, avoiding his gaze as children would when caught with the honeyjar. "My dear sir, your words hurt my heart! I would not sell any of my kin!" He says and gets a broad smile on. Not natural, but he knows the trick. "Come close and see, this is not human any more than those mudliving lizards or the thrice-damned Elkagr! This is more like selling a cat that can talk than selling human!"
Letrune herself got a very different sight on the events - some consider her human? She got no idea what to think... the sensory overload and the mere inability to guess that she is being traded away for those shiny bits make her even more uncomfortable... She then decides on to use her most charming idea ever -looking with big eyes on Duke Redgar. Maybe he can move her away?

"Alright, I'll agree with you about the fucking elves. But I've never seen a Skaldi play in the mud. That's just a myth. And they're besides the point, it's legal to own Skaldi. That right there. That is not a cat. That's a person. Fairly sure that's a person. I think that's a person that some rogue... mage... has..."
It started to dawn on Redgard. It took him long enough. He was sort of an idiot about a lot of things. The woman in front of him was weird looking now that he had a good look at her. She was... furry? Kind of? And was that a fucking tail coming out of her backside? Human or not, this slaver was selling something that had been experimented on, in a magical sort of way. Sure potions were fine. But this kind of magic... this kind of magic was definitely illegal. What was it his dad used to tell him?
Son, if you see a mage that's not with the crown, you kill him before he knows that you know. You shove your sword right through his head. Don't even think about it. If he gets a thought off at you, you're dead.
Redgar unsheathed his short sword, slashing to split the slaver from hip to shoulder, then following up with a horizontal slash to the head if he wasn't already down or dead.
He was panicking, he just tried to slay a person that could be a mage in broad daylight and he wasn't even sure in that very moment he got him.

"See? This is wh-" the slaver starts, then he sees Redgar reaching for the sword. It seems he got some survival skills, because as the Duke hands the sword, the trader seems to disappear, or at least teleport to a very different position, outside the reach of the blade. Not actually, using magic, just showing an unfitting fast response to the sword. "My lord, mercy! Not my fault! I try to make a living!" He says while not stopping with the avoidance. "I was told to sell this crea-" he says when the horizontal cut slashes him during backing away, cutting his left shoulder and arms. He shouts for help and tries to cover himself, groaning that he has a legal trade paper - mostly gurgling it in pain. The people just disappear, some even trying to call the guard. The guard that is not even near this part, hence the trade could start.
Letrune is horrified. This is something she never saw in her short new life... Two creatures just jumping on each other and drawing blood. Well, she were on the receiving end of some whips and canes, but this is different. She tries to back away too, but the heavy lead chains and shackles are not really letting her to run. The creature seems to be very afraid of the Duke, but is more afraid of the bleeding man that kept feeding her. What would she do now?

There was no way Redgar could have missed. This man somehow moved out of the way of his first attack, and it wasn't by using his legs. The trader had seemed to disappear, he had been right in front of him. Redgar's mind wrapped around that fact. The man in front of him had to be a mage, and if he wasn't trying to arrest Redgar for attacking him then he was a rogue most definitely, and needed to be put down before he hurt someone else. Redgar wasn't about to be reasoned with due to the situation, instead of stopping to hear the trader out, he lunged forward, looking to plunge his blade into the man's heart.
If it was over then the Duke would look to the experiment.
"He's a mage, you saw him move unnaturally didn't you?"
Redgar had no idea what he was in for. Not a single idea.

The trader dies as no trick and luck can stop the blade now. Letrune stands as she is left, but she tries to make distance between herself and the blood. Only they are left and any passerby around. The felinoid tries to move away as much as the shakles allow her (which is very little), and whimpers on the thought that she might die as well. Her brain does not understands why as the concept is a bit high for her...

Redgar felt the blade pass through his foe's skin and into his organs. How he missed killing. Having soldiers do it for you was a different kind of satisfying. He twisted the blade while it was still in there to make sure, then he pulled it out. He cleaned it on the merchant's clothing. That was it, he had survived the encounter. So had the... experiment. He looked it over really quickly. Definitely looked like a woman. She was still chained up too.
"Now what the fuck do I do with you? Can you speak Cruic?"
He sheathed his sword and looked her over again. Where was his sister when he needed her? She would know what to do with this thing. Killing it crossed his mind briefly, to put it out of its misery. Then he thought about it, and really didn't feel like taking the effort to kill her. After all, she wasn't going to fight back. Where was the fun in that?

Letrune looks over her "saviour" as well. If only she could flee... But she is chained. The rest of the "wares" seem to have been taken or just fled... But she is unable to understand it. Might not even know. The creature tried her chain again and they are just as indestructible for her than before... Then she gets a direct question. She nods and combats the lump in her throats to answer. First it is just a weak mewling, then she tries to form the words "yes" and "master", only to flub it and fail miserabely, producing a groaned "yeter" or something similar. If only she could just run, her legs vibrate it upwards her bones and refuse to move, not a small part coming from the lead on them.

"It was over there!""I see them. You with the weapons! Halt!"A villager had finally found a guard willing to stop the murder-in-progress. Two SKC footmen came running down the seedy alleyway, drawing their weapons and pointing them at Duke Redgar Karligar. They did not know who he was, they were there to arrest him for murder. "Cruic, motherfucker, do you speak it?!"Redgar said, before the guards came. Then they rushed him with their weapons drawn and pointing at him, demanding that he go quietly. This was all a little too much for just one experiment, but he had asked for a challenge. Footmen, huh? He was sure he could take both of them, even though he was under armed and under armored. "I am Duke Scyld Redgar Karligar, and you're in my way."He felt the need to introduce himself, it was the gentlemanly thing to do. Then he unsheathed his sword, slashing at the swordsman first, and following up with two quick jabs, once for the footman's face, and second for the other footman's heart. She is backing a bit as the Duke shouts on her, then she tries to reply with a nod and a "yes". She manages to produce the nod, then... More iron and steel and such comes in, and the people shout to each other. She considers her options, and tests her shakles on the leg, moving slightly away... Then tries to look as invisible as she possibly can, moving her was towards the dead merchant for the keys. The body is just outside her reach, so she strains her entire body into an uncomfortable pose to slip closer.

Battle Data Initiative SKC Footmen Redgar
Non-Combatants Letrune
SKC Footman A(Swordsman) Hit Threshold: 52 -Dodge/Block -Attack 1D100 => 26 1D15 => 8 (Abdomen) 32 -10 = 22 -Attack 1D100 => 1 1D15 => 1 (Head) 32 -15 = 17+250 = 267, bleeding, -30 Kn (cognition Damage)
SKC Footman B (Spearman) Hit Threshold: 52 -No Actions Taken
Redgar Hit Threshold: 48 -Unable to take actions, Knowledge below 0
Results -Redgar takes 289 dmg, is Bleeding (50 dmg per turn), -30 Knowledge
Redgar had tried to get the jump on the swordsman, but the Footman was too fast for him. He put his sword through the lord's stomach before he drew his weapon, then clocked him over the head with it, causing a large fissure to form in his skull. The young lord would bleed out before help could arrive. The other footman fiddled with the experiments chains before putting the spearhead in the loop and using it as a lever to pop the chains off. She would be free. "Duke my ass. Probably looking to buy the woman and keep her as a slave.""So, we leave him here then?""Absolutely."The two footmen left him there, after taking anything of value in his pockets.
No Resurrection options left for Redgar, he is incapacitated and removed from the thread.

Before he could get his blade out something went squish. He looked down and it was his own stomach. The swordsman had put a blade through him. He swore internally, unable to get his diaphragm to move properly so he could swear externally. That was his one regret in the situation, not being able to swear loudly at his enemy. Instead, he spat blood on the footmans face. The response the guard had was appropriate, he slapped him upside the head with the sharp side of his weapon, and Redgar went down, bleeding out into the street.
Shit, he thought, this means Katrina gets to be Duchess.
We're all doomed.
Redgar -HP: 0/300 -50 (Bleeding) -INCAPACITATED, removed from thread.

The chains come off... Letrune had seen the spearhead by her pheripherial sight but did not recognized it as a tool to become free, still trying to reach the keys when the guards set her free... She notices it when she can get them. She turns to see what happened and only see the guards going away. "Thakyou." She says after them, then turns to free the other few slaves. She does not understand the idea, but they sure dislike cages as well! They leave very fast and some even start emptying the pockets of the two bodies.
Now she is free... She got no idea what to do. Standing on the roadside, she looks all around and feels even more insignificant than ever - she never had such huge areas outside of cages or such... She goes to the first direction sees. Who knows what waits her?
