"Hm. Typical."
Allyria shook her head again, Lily had given up. Having thought over Jair's response on the Lady Killer comment she could see how that might be a colloquialism. She had seen some human women swoon over the thought of some human man. It wasn't a thing that she had ever suffered from. She had never seen someone sufficiently swoon worthy she guessed. Tyr interrupted her thoughts for a moment with comments concerning the cordite suit. She looked up from what she was doing to watch him speak, better aiding her listening. When he was done she thought over the proposal.
"Cordite isn't tough enough of a material to be life saving. At least not conventionally. But with the right properties imparted onto it, it could be. I think I could work something out for you, Tyr, if you'll provide me a suit. I could, truly, grant properties to any material that can hold it. Even something as simple as iron can hold a little bit."
She refocused on her work. Now thinking about all the things she could do with a suit like that. Grant it a shielding property, or a healing property, or both. Among others. Cordite could hold quite a few.

The boy listened quietly as the different conversations were carried around him. He only made a quiet, "Hm" sound as Tyr spoke to him. Jorkahn was a strange boy, not very enthusiastic about some of the things he should be, and overly enthusiastic about some of the things he shouldn't be. One thing that interested him greatly, and rightly so, was maximizing his effectiveness and chance of survival in combat. It was one of the few areas in life he was somewhat good in, it benefitted him to sharpen his edge whenever possible.
The Champion continued to listen to the technical speak between the two, although the specifics of how things worked were lost to him, he still found it rather intriguing. His relevance in the current conversation had passed, mostly. However, the boy didn't want to be outdone. "The only s-service I could provide would be a bit more physical. B-but if there would be some form of payment you would need in exchange for a suit of my own, I-I would be happy to oblige my friend." The Countess seemed to believe the Duke's invention could prove more useful than Tyr seemed to imply. Jorkahn knew his friend's ingenuity and merit more than most, so he was inclined to agree.

The business proposition being thrown about was a strange one, magic was such a controlled thing in the country these days. To meet someone who freely practiced it, and who wasn't in the service of Julgrava, was something Tyr hadn't planned on. Magic held the power to make a great many things possible. With such a colleague to work with, especially one who was also familiar with crafting things, a good number of possibilities opened up.
"We have a working agreement then, services for skins. If you have the cordite here I can make it, otherwise when next we meet at my Duchy I can work there." That would work for Allyria though, Jorkahn didn't have a service to immediately offer. Although he had completed Tyr's trial task quite well, getting the pair of them to the Saurian's cave and back. "As for you Jorkahn, we can work out our own deal later on. You will then have to barter with the Countess here for the magical side of things."
His patching of the leathers was finally finished and the Duke pulled them back on. Comfortably dressed once again he left the armor sitting on the bench for now. He didn't have the materials to fix it yet, nor would he attempt to do so right now anyway. Being sociable was good for the lot of them, and the repair efforts would be too involved and noisy for proper social engagement.

He could do it now? She was amenable to the idea, she had Cordite here in the warehouse. Under lock and key of course.
"I have some Cordite here in the warehouse. Grayson, pull the Cordite and bring it here."
"Uugh... fine!"
"Don't sass me boy!"
"Sorry!"
Grayson came by a moment or two later with a box with metal bands around it. The lock was a combination key. It would only open if the right numbers were placed in order. Allyria input the combination and opened it. She pulled out two units of the crystals. The crystals were red, and thrummed a tad with power. They were obvious. A thief would know they're valuable right away.
"Would that be enough, Tyr? Jorkahn, you can accompany me on an expedition to pay off any enchantments I put on yours. Sound fair?"

Jorkahn glanced between the two as they spoke. First to Tyr as he hashed out the specifics of the agreement between the two, and then again as the boy was spoken to. He gave a nod to indicate he was listening, and then another to show that he understood. The Champion kept his mouth shut, for now, allowing the others to converse. When Tyr was fully dressed Jorkahn turned back around to face him, having only been taking furtive glances up until that point. Nudity didn't make him too terribly uncomfortable. He did believe, however, that it was rude to stare. Not that he was.
He looked over towards Grayson as Allyria sent him off to fetch some cordite. They really were like mother and son, it put a smile on his face. The half-breed's eyes widened when he saw the crystals. They were very pleasing to the eye and indeed looked valuable. He almost didn't respond to the Countess in time, his head snapped into position to face her. "Y-yes! That is fine!" He regained a bit more of his composure after being surprised. "In fact, depending on what we find I may end up walking out with the better end of the deal in this. Whatever you deem to be satisfactory I am a-alright with." His stuttering had dropped off sharply. "What can you o-offer in the way of enchantments?" He had no idea what to expect. The young warrior had never held or worn enchanted arms or armor before.
Seen them? Yes. Held? Worn? No.

"That I can definitely work with." Tyr started the setup immediately, gathering tools and the like from the immediate area to work with. The awkward stage would come much later, right now he had to do the raw grunt work of reducing the crystal into a workable state. Generic forging wasn't really applicable here, he couldn't form a billet then hammer that into shape. This required the making of several thin, pliable layers that then underwent something closer to splicing than welding. With tongs, hammer, and the judicious application of forge heat Tyr went about turning one chunk into several, and then flattening it out from there.
"I could use your expertise here as well though. The handling of the Cordite itself in a raw form is still somewhat difficult for me with my lack of experience." He briefly detailed his process for making mesh patches while heating the metal in the forge. It was exciting having someone to bounce ideas off of and not have them question what half the words meant. Plus having her help would make things easier and seeing as this wasn't the awkward part yet it'd be nice to catch a break early on.
Making 1 Cordite into a Second Skin for Allyria. Difficult (-30) + K (35) + ArmorM/Hyd0 (20) + Skillful (17) + help (25) + LotJ (10) = DC 77 5ItbRcKX 16, success! No masterwork available. Item will be made throughout the thread.

"Fire, shielding, limited healing, the general arcane. Wind. Those sorts of things. I could do a combination of those. Such as fireproofing, or something."
She left out that she could work planar magics into materials as well. That wasn't something she was comfortable with, not quite yet. She didn't fully understand planar magics herself, and she didn't want to throw someone else into armor bound with it. That was far too risky.
"Anything else would be too risky for your health. Or beyond my skill. Think about it for a minute. Let me know what you want. I'll tell you if its possible."
Allyria came up to Tyr to examine what he was doing. She had worked with hydrillium, and knew the properties of its various crystal forms. He was right, it was tricky to work with. Hydrillium behaved like a metal in a normal way. Cordite didn't, at least not in a structured form like it was now.
"I've found that breaking apart the cordite into a powder prior to shaping is the best way to get it to behave. It may be simpler to make it into a powder, shape it into thread, and weave it like you would a cloth. Most that work with Cordite and the like tend to just carve the crystal into the shape they want, but again they are using it almost like a gemstone. Grinding it down without losing some of the material isn't as hard as one'd imagine. Grind it, fill the basin with water, strain it. Then you have your raw working material. Use the same furnace temperatures as you would for hydrillium.

Jorkahn took what the Countess said to heart and took a few moments to think about what he wanted on his second skin, or maybe even his armor if that was an option. In the meantime, however, he decided to watch the two work. Though he felt like he would never be able to get his head around the concept and techniques required to make something so advanced, he always loved watching Tyr work. And, now that that Allyria was helping, he could watch them work off of each other.
Shielding may be a good idea? That little bit of extra protection against an attack could be the difference between life and death. Or, hopefully, between breaching his armor and harmlessly gliding off. However, the Champion was no stranger to injuries. Unless he was misunderstanding what shielding meant. He has bled more times in his life than most of his family combined. An enchantment to passively heal any minor wounds could give him the edge in battles of attrition.
The boy's mind was made up, he waited for Allyria to finish giving advice to Tyr before speaking himself.
"U-uhm. A combination of shielding and healing sounds like it would be useful."

Huh, turn a powder into thread. Well there was an idea that would make things a lot simpler. That would make the fitting process a little easier too, cloth was a lot easier to manipulate than small metal plates. Wouldn't be any less awkward though, it still required matching someone's body exactly. The tricky bit now would be making a powder into some form of thread or cloth. Perhaps a method similar to paper crafting? That was plant fibers rendered into a pulp and aligned in a flat sheet, why not try and make powdered Cordite into a paste and do something similar? If nothing else it would put it into a flattened form, and he could cut the stuff into something thread-like from there.
While working Tyr mulled over some of the possibilities in his head for an enchanted skin-tight suit. Shielding would normally sound great, but you could just wear regular armor over the thing. Why not get something perhaps a bit more useful in the mean time? Allyria had mentioned combinations. Perhaps a different type of shielding?
"Could you enchant it to shield against magic itself?"
After straining the broken up Cordite Tyr got to work on making a thread out of it for weaving. Turning a crystal into thread, who would've thought?

"Uh, yes. You can enchant something to shield against certain kinds of magical forces. Making something prismatically shielded isn't that difficult, but it is far easier to shield against an individual element. You'd receive a much stronger effect. Like fireproofing for example. A very common shielding enchantment that is used because fire is a common weapon even for those not magically inclined. A fireproofed piece of armor would resist fire on a much larger scale than a prismatically shielded one. On the other hand, the fireproofed armor will do nothing to save you from lightning, where the prismatic one will mitigate some of the deadly energy. Momentum transfer is still a drawback though, and sometimes you run into what's called... I guess the closest word in cruic is slippage? Where the shielding is too intense and then you can't get enough traction to come to a full and fast stop, or change direction or even hold onto objects."
She had realized that she had said more than she intended to say, and when she was finished she wasn't even sure she answered the question. But she did enjoy the word slippage. It was fun to say out loud. She tried it out a bit more.
"Slippage... slippage. Fun word. Hmm."

Jorkahn took in everything that Allyria was saying, musing it all over in his head. Prismatic shielding sounded more versatile even if it wasn't as powerful on a single element. However, it was important to take account of what elements he may run into more often, or elements that he could use himself. Fireproofing gave him some ideas, but first, he would have to develop the correct spells to bring these ideas to fruition. Healing was definitely a must in this situation, as though he was a capable fighter he had been injured in nearly every battle he had taken place in.
"F-fireproofing and healing sound nice... Y-yes, let us go with that!" The boy smiled warmly and turned back to watch Tyr work as he always seemed to do around the man. He only turned back around once to briefly glance at Allyria. He tried not to laugh at her new found love for the word slippage.

"Focusing makes it stronger, simple enough." Useful to know really, that could drive both ways though. Enchant a weapon with strong enough damage of one kind and you were likely to punch through whatever shielding someone might have on their armor. Made it hard to properly prepare with the amount of elements that were probably available to be used. You know who would know that for sure though?
"What all elements can be used for such enchantments?" As he listened Tyr hammered out some quick frames for small-scale cloth making. A small loom would be fantastic, but he didn't know if Allyria would happen to have one just sitting idle in her warehouse here. The elements weren't the only curious bit though. The sorceress had mentioned before that iron could hold a 'little bit' of magic. That seemed to mean things had differing tolerances to enchantments. Knowing limits was highly important for proper planning.
"And roughly how much could you enchant this cordite with before it refused to hold any more?" Frames built he started sliding strands of thread through slots in each end, creating the beginning of fabric. He had fashioned a second frame as well for Allyria to use if she was so inclined as to help. The process would be simple enough to understand just by watching. The product would be small patches of Cordite cloth, intentionally small to allow for easier fitting of the cloth. Cutting up large sections to fit would be wasteful.

"I can fireproof some stuff for you then."
She said in response to Jorkahn's decision. Watching Tyr work was nice. For once she wasn't the one swinging the hammer and shaping the material. Though he was the only one with hands on experience with cordite. The material was rare and so theory was all she knew. He had asked a logical follow up question.
"Let's see. Fire, water, cold, wind, earth, and lightning, are what I'd call the classic elements. I rely more heavily on arcane personally."
Then Tyr asked an interesting follow up question about Cordite. How many enchantments. She knew it was a hell of a lot more. And cordite could hold a ton of raw energy too.
"I don't know the exact number. Iron can barely hold onto one. Cordite and the other crystals are used in Korasus for heavy industry and such usually. Powering water pumps and moving platforms. If I had to guess, depending on the mass and purity it's probably six or seven times more capable than regular metals. With a stabilizing crystal like a stripped diamond, probably more."

There was so much knowledge and intelligence in the room right now, Jorkahn felt a little out of place. Here they were talking about theory and the science of enchantments as well as the art of smithing itself. All he could provide to the conversation was a few nods, maybe an awkward smile here and there, and a few questions. The half-breed looked over his gear, then he looked between Tyr and Allyria.
"T-thank you! U-uhm, I ask that we hold o-off on any enchantments for a while. I would like to u-upgrade my gear." He turned to Tyr, eyes wide and an apologetic look on his face. "I-I-I'm not saying your work isn't good enough! I'm just s-saying I know you have improved quite dramatically of late and... And... Oh, I'm sorry. I really don't mean to sound mean, p-p-please don't take it that way!" The boy had turned into a bit of a bumbling mess at this point. His normally white skin was flushed red and he couldn't look his friend in the eye.

Magic was a strange new thing to wrap his brain around. While the concept had always been there as something to potentially be worked around, never before had Tyr had someone who could actually give him actual information about it. The few questions he'd had answered so far had sparked dozens more, and the amount grew rapidly from there. But that was a conversation for another time, and a different place.
"Of course lad, it's only reasonable you would grow accustomed to that equipment. The armor was made for what I expected you could wear at the time. You're stronger now, you could likely handle more material forged into the armor. Come by the shop some time and we'll get you sorted out right away." He worked as he spoke, forming cloth from crystalline threads. "As for you Countess, I would like to invite you to my shop some time as well. I have a great deal of questions about magic in general. I believe your expertise with it, combined with my shaping prowess, could make for a very interesting partnership."
When the patches of cordite cloth were all set Tyr stacked them to the side and prepared some thread for sewing it all together. With a steadying breath, he locked a serious gaze with Allyria and tried to properly form the words into a polite sentence.
"Now then, this skin will fit as the name would imply. It will fit under any armor, or any clothing. To do so however requires that I match it perfectly to your current skin." He was being indirect, that wouldn't work. "To be plain, I will need you to be naked and ok with my touching you at times." Nothing overly intimate there of course, he just had to match the cloth to every curve of her body and that was nearly impossible with sight alone. "If there is some place with more privacy you would rather do this at, I can work anywhere so long as I have decent light."
