Astris' brow furrowed slightly as her smile fades for a faint moment, watching Allyria. She's a mage, and unafraid to be known as one. So we come around to it then.
Her smile returns as quickly as it faded. "I see. You must have some confidence in either your own ability or our interest to mention it blandly. If there is something like that to find, it would be worth finding."
And dangerous as it gets. For both of us. Still, if what I believe Allyria to be is true, chances are she will be prepared. Better now, given what they might have found. The burning curiosity of what the Countess may have found itched at the back of her mind almost as badly as the humming in the air.
She looks at Ikram with an eyebrow raised. She'll have to warn him, though she suspected that he has an idea of what they're dealing with. "I think we're interested?" She said, deferring to Ikram for the ultimate decision.

Allyria looked back and forth between the two of them. It seemed that the woman certainly understood what was going on. And Ikram didn't seem to be without a clue either. So they could piece it together. Allyria was confident as a mage. But more than that, she was seasoned against some truly powerful creatures. Those crows in Skaraptica for example. They were monstrous and tough. She relished the chance to engage something like that again. Something truly powerful. She had survived, and came out the better for it.
Power was addictive for Allyria, but she truly thirsted after knowledge. That was the ultimate power. To know so much, and then to be able to harness it. That was one of many things she strove after.
It seemed like they were coming to a decision. She had nothing more to say at the moment. Instead the gears were turning in her head as to what to forge for them if they didn't have any specific requests.
Now what to make for them... perhaps for him some medium armor, and longer weapon? And for her... hmm... Light armor definitely, and perhaps a hand weapon. Something that would pack a punch.

"Absolutely." I say. "You mentioned before, outfitting us with equipment useful to our tasks, did you not?" I ask. The prospect was the most attractive thing about today's meeting; having seen the quality of what Allyria had found in her last expedition, I was confident that this was the right decision. But Astris and I had agreed to take the job when we were offered it in the first place. It made everything just that much simpler.

Astris nods at her husband's words, and looks back at the Countess. This next part isn't going to come easy and she could ruin her husband with it if she gambled badly.
"My husband works best with a spear as he was trained. I'd mentioned that I was a scholar and medic and unsuited to physical combat. This is true. However you should know that my methods of medicine aren't...scholastic. Neither are my methods of defense, of which I currently have few. However, I believe that we may come to an understanding. It may help with your decisions on where I would best fit in your expedition."
She watches Allyria for her reaction. Her words left her with some deniability. But the Countess isn't a stupid person.

She listened to them both before making any attempt to speak. It seemed that her thoughts about Ikram were very close. A spear was easy enough. The woman however was a mage if Allyria had to guess. She perked her eyebrows and ears up. Appearing curious about the woman's background. Allyria was formally taught in Korasus.
"Self-taught? Shame, people die because they don't know the theory or mathematics behind what they are tapping into. If you want to discuss all that I'm here. I'll get to work on your equipment though. For you, Lord Wylmont, how does medium leather armor and a trident or halberd sound?"
A pause to allow for an answer.
"And for you, Lady Wylmont, are you comfortable with a weapon? I'm thinkin mace or sword, light leather armor for starters."
Then a thought came to her.
"Do either of you have arrangements for a place to stay or will you be returning to Sorath?"

I look to Astris. I recall her mentioning that Allyria had offered us shelter in her original letter. Perhaps my wife had been mistaken. I shrug in response to the Half-Drokagr's words.
"Halberd would be preferred, and leathers would be suitable. Will we owe you for the equipment?" I ask. My father taught me many valuable lessons. One of them was that there was no such thing as 'free'. All things had their cost, and if it were just coin then that would be fine. It was my suspicion however that the payment would be chunks of my own flesh on a wild expedition. Recalling the thieves made me simmer with anger. I could feel my cheeks warm. With better equipment—there wouldn't be any more wounds.
I should have known better than to trust anything my father'd supplied.

Her heartbeat was thudding softly in her ears. Well look at that. Not even skipping a beat, treating magery as if it weren't risking life itself to learn. She takes a breath, vaguely hearing Ikram saying something. Oh yes payment.
"I am of course an eager student. I will take what you feel is best. I'm sure Ikram will be of help in the learning of wielding it. As far as arrangements, I fear we came directly from travel, we would be happy to take your suggestion for accommodations."
She nods a bit and smiles slightly.

"If it saves your life or mine or an innocents in its service then that is payment enough."
She said that in a tone that denoted it was the end of that subject.
"You both are of course welcome to stay at my manor in the city. You are also welcome to choose an inn or return to Sorath. I will not make you stay. I will need to take measurements for your armor though."
Allyria stood up from the table and walked towards one of the stacks of materials. Her back was turned to the Wylmonts for the time being, and she had gone a few meters in her short strides. It took her a few minutes to find the object she had been looking for. A meter long rope that was marked down to the quarter inch.
"Found it."
She muttered to herself, gathering it up neatly. She then returned to the table.

So this was happening now? I was, of course, suspicious. We would work for these, with no doubt. Still, it was exciting to be on the receiving end of such a thing. This must be costly for her to give away such wares. I stood from the table.
"Whichever would place us as the least burden. In fact, it may be best if you tell us what you would prefer. We are very adaptable, as you will see." This was surely something she'd wanted to here, being that she was employing us. Whatever it was she wanted, we'd need to be ready for. That's what this deal meant. That's what the forty ritz each month meant. I had put a great deal of time thinking in order to separate this arrangement from the loan. It would be, surely, no problem.
I waited to be sized and resolved to move precisely as she'd tell. It was not too different from working with Maosim.

"We would of course be happy to take you up on your hospitality. As you said, you intend to leave sooner rather than later and we would like to be available at your need."
Being measured for arms and armor can't be much different than a ladies' dress. She patiently waited her turn to be measured. Apparently the Countess prefers to do such things on her own. She was a still subject to measure.

Allyria was not shy with the rope. Accurate measurements were a must. She did not bend to ceremony or politeness in this manner. Both of them would feel extremely measured when she was done. The objective was a perfect fit, and comfort in the armor itself. After she had taken the rope to them both she finished jotting down her notes and put the rope away.
"Thank you for your cooperation. You would be no burden to provide room or board for. So long as you don't mind children in the house. We are located on Vayar avenue. Grayson can lead you there to get your things put away if you would like to do that while I set to work. Unless you're inclined to watch."

I nod agreeably. "Thank you... for your hospitality." I look to the boy. Grayson? I suppose that would be his name. Another trek in the rain for the young man. There are worse things. Looking back to Allyria, I say "Thank you for the equipment as well. We will put it to good use." The comment—protection of an innocent struck me as odd. Who would that include? Who would it exclude? What was the point of saying it? Were there men, women that Allyria persecuted personally? It would be hard to say, and I resolved to speak with Astris in regards to that later. Allyria was a strange woman, even for the Half-Drokagr I'd met.
I look to Astris and nod my head to her, before walking to Grayson. I turn back to the lightened side of the room as well, "Good day, Countess Allenmorde." I turn to wait on the youth.

Well. At least that's over. Astris found the entire ordeal nerve wracking. But hearing more about the potential of these endeavors, she can't help but find herself a little excited. Perhaps in time the Countess could be considered a friend.
She picks up Ikram's coat and drapes it around herself. "Thank you. Good day, Countess."
She joins her husband as they leave.

After the Wylmonts leave.
Allyria set about her work to create pieces of armor for them. She figured there would be a need to cover a few basic areas. Chiefly the chest, sides, abdomen, and back for the torso armor. She believed Ikram wouldn't mind shoulder covering or upper arms either. The lady may or may not be able to support the weight. For the arms it would be hands and and forearms. Faulds would be easier, thighs and lower legs. Boots of course. Yes, they would need all those things.
She decided she would work on Astris' chest armor first. She consulted her measurements, selected the leather and set to work. She took her knives and scissors and needle and thread to the material, putting together a layered chest armor with softer leather on the inside for comfort, and hard leather on the outside. A simple design really, consisting of five layered cuts that could easily fit under a loose shirt or a cloak. Of course, she was not going to just craft it by hand. She enjoyed piecing these things together with magic as well.

The chest armor turned out really well. She was certainly getting the hang of using magic while crafting the armor. The half-breed took it over to a rack for display and to rest. The armor was still tinged a slight purple to her eye from the power she used to make it. If things continued to be this productive, she would be done with all of their equipment by the end of the day. Then she could perhaps send it over to them, or have them come pick it up. She still needed to scout a location for the next expedition anyway.
Allyria set to work on Astris' boots then. She was already gaining good momentum with this process, and she didn't want to stop. The boots would be knee high. Designed to cover the entirety of the lower leg without restricting movement. The armor wouldn't close around the front or the back of the knee, instead it would taper away yet still offer some protection. Once the craftsman had worked out the design she set to work. Putting needle, scissor, and knife to the task at hand. She chose to layer the armor in the same fashion as before, using several good cuts.

Failure.
She picked up the boots, and found that her hand had slipped or mistiched or something just barely by the sole. It flopped around uselessly. She had come so close to success and the minor error grated on her nerves. The materials were wasted. She couldn't salvage the materials now. Frustrated, she tossed them into a new pile on the warehouse floor and tried again.
Perhaps it would take longer than she thought.

These came out much better. The heels were good, about an inch high. The sole error from before was not repeated. And the armor itself covered the areas it was supposed to. Light, and tough for its weight, the boots were satisfactory in her eyes. She placed them with the completed chest armor. The set was nearly complete. Just something for the woman's hands, head, and a belt to finish.
She opted to work on gloves first. The design she settled on incorporated a built in bracer, with plenty of wrist maneuverability, and a complete lack of fingers for better dexterity. She didn't have a material that could improve grip at all other than the leather, and half the time she supposed that a grip would only be necessary in dire situations. Such as if they were out numbered, or if climbing was in order. She doubted any sort of enhancement was truly necessary.

And those went straight into the trash. More than an hour had passed. She had sat down to take a break, thinking as to what had possibly gone wrong. She had done the magic properly, there was no obvious flaw in the design. Perhaps she was just tired? She hadn't eaten since she had gotten up and did some cooking.
After a half hour break she went back to the work again. Perhaps it was merely a slip in the hands before. It wasn't a true problem. If she ran out of materials she'd send Lily to go get more.

Now that the main components of the armor were complete, it was time to set about the rest of it. She had set aside the gauntlets with the other completed pieces, and resolved the failures to the trash. Some scavenger would likely eat them, or use them for their own ends. She cared not which. Instead, she focused on new efforts with the rest of the armor for Astris. Namely the belt at the moment. Time had continued to pass on during her work. The day went on without her as she strove to complete this set.
It was a matter of pride.
She selected a few pieces of leather and designed a belt with several pouches for storing small objects. Much like her own. It was simple to cut the strip and fashion a buckle. The pockets were the more difficult part of the task. They each needed fasteners and sewing onto the belt. It was time consuming, and she pricked her fingers a few times in the process.

The belt turned out perfectly. Working in the workshop was a better experience than she had when she was putting together her own armor in her kitchen just after purchasing the properties in the city. That left armor for the head on the list. Something told her that Astris may not enjoy a full helmet, or any sort of helmet at all. She herself did not enjoy them. They were uncomfortable, and cumbersome. It made it difficult to see completely. Perhaps a hood and cloak would work better.
She laid out two bolts of cotton and five patches of leather. Tailoring and working the leather over was a different task entirely. Making armor completely out of leather was different than melding two different materials together into something usable. She had done it before though. This project took over an hour, to get the hood the right size, provide plenty of coverage with the cloak, as well as have the cotton on the correct side of the damn thing to provide warmth. All while trying to not put more holes in her finger tips with a needle.
A trying, but rewarding experience, she hoped. She unfurled the thing when she was done.

She was pleased with the cloak and hood. It provided a decent amount of coverage and allowed for free movement, as well as comfort. The Half-breed dumped the cloak in one of the barrels she had full of dye. This one was a light blue color. She'd come back to it every once in a while and stir it. Later she'd remove it and hang it out to dry.
