Ulric had followed Vivien for a fair amount, and so it was that he was beginning to slack, surely they must have made enough distance between themselves and the rest of humanity by now, surely they must be ok to stop now and she could teach him here. He could see for a fair view in all directions and couldn't see another soul, who was going to report him from here, the birds above them?
And so it was that Ulric uttered the legendary phrase to Vivien as he followed her from behind, "Are we there yet?" And he would continue to say this phrase until either the answer was yes or until Vivien did something to stop him, both of which could very well happen.
He had to admit though, it was quite a nice day, well at least it wasn't raining, the sun wasn't exactly shining bright and there were some clouds on the horizon that looked as if rain could come at a later point in the day, but for now it all seemed rather good.

Vivien glanced cautiously up at the birds, they seemed awfully noisy and she really didn't like the idea of them. The man seemed a little bit slow but she wasn't going to complain as she was getting a little bit tired too. Instead, she saw a little area of trees, and two stumps which seemed perfect to sit on. Walking towards them, she took a seat and motioned to the other one nearby.
"Let's start with this then..."
Pausing for a moment, Vivien began to try and teach Ulric a little bit about poison. Grabbing a weed from the ground, she showed it to him carefully, holding it out in the palm of her hand.
"If we must, we'll get straight to work. You've gotta really feel your magic, and focus a little bit of toxicness. Try to corrode it, try to destroy it, use your hatred if you must, just destroy it how you can."
Explaining magic was tough, but she showed him how it was done anyways. Or not... Nothing happened. Bugger it

The tree stump fit his butt perfectly, in the least weird way of saying that, but it was quite comfy despite the fact that it was a tree stump. Ulric sat down on it and looked at Viven, waiting for her to say something, hopefully he would learn how to do the magic that she had, it seemed like quite an interesting and possibly destructive magic, sounded like something fun as far as he was concerned.
"So...just....focus on the toxicity? Ok, will do." Ulric replied to her teaching, not particularly sure how exactly one focussed toxicity, her idea of focussing hatred could possibly work, that was if Ulric actually had anything that he hated overly. Even his own father who had denied him his birthright and was probably the person Ulric liked in the world, he didn't even truly hate that man.
Foccussing toxicity it was.
Ulric went through his normal motion of gathering power in his palm and picked up a weed, trying to manifest it in a way as to poison the weeds in his hands.

Of course he was completely unskilled in the usage of magical poisons and so it failed completely.

Vivien nodded towards him, she could see the effort but it just wasn't really working out right now as it turned out. Perhaps he'd get it next time. She was being kind of friendly towards him, but only as a fellow magic user, and nothing else. If it wasn't for this factor she'd have just walked away, but knowledge was respectable so she allowed him some time.
"You'll get it eventually I guess..."
She attempted her own magic once again, focusing on the weeds in her hands and hoping to turn them to dust. Focusing hatred into them was easy enough, and even if that wasn't the only part to it, it was all the advice she would give on it. She couldn't quite think of how to word it otherwise. Her attempt, well it failed of course, what was the chance that it didn't really? Magic, her bane and her saviour...

Ulric tried once again, wondering how exactly it worked, his first attempt had been met with absolutely no results and he didn't really expect his second to go any better but he reasoned that he should keep trying, one failure doesn't necessarily mean that it will always be a failure. Failures are a neccessary part of learning.
And with Vivien's rousing pep talk to cheer him on how could he not do it, the fact that Vivien didn't particularly seem to care was lost on Ulric, he was more concerned with actually learning the magic that she was willing to teach rather than her, gaining her as a possible contact would be a bonus to the deal already. Having another mage as a contact would be rather useful, although he wouldn't go so far as to call her a friend, in any meaning of the word, she could be a useful companion if he was able to convince her of such.
Her magic could be invaluable to him should the need or opportunity arrive for it's usage, and even if it didn't the least he could do was learn everything that she knew about magic to better himself in it's arts, that would be rather useful.
Ulric once again focussed on manifesting the power in his hand that would hopefully poison the weeds that were sitting in said hand.

Something must have been up with where they were sitting, some sort of magic dampening spells could have been cast on the forest just to annoy people who wanted to practice illegal magic there. Oh well, she'd deal with it for now, it wasn't like she had a time limit. For all she cared they could spend a week learning, as long as they could find something to eat that was. Sighing a little she looked at the man still failing:
"This is just the easier of the stuff I know. Wait till we get onto the.... other stuff."
She thought that he'd ask but before he could she said:
"Another time perhaps"
Probably not. She didn't really want to become a full on teacher of illegal magic, it was bad enough people would want her head, and limbs and probably anything they could salvage. Although... Hopefully nothing could be salvaged after she was done with the weeds!
YES! It actually worked. She laughed a little and watched as the dust flew out of her hand, caught in a small wind. That's how a mage does it!
Vivien's really trying to kill these weeds now... And still trying to teach of course (Teaching Ulric Poison I)

She had piqued his interest with the promise of other stuff that she would teach him, but the problem was she then instantly cut off any chance of his interest becoming something more and him actually learning what it was that she was talking of teaching with her dismissal of the subject and the promise of another time.
Well it wasn't actually a promise, it was more a promise that Ulric made to himself that he would make her teach him more, that would be rather useful if he could learn all that she knew of magic. She would be useful to him as a contact, possibly moreso if she would teach him her magics. The more magics that he could learn from her the more versatile his usages could become, the more he knew the more possibilites that he would have for usage, the more options he would have in a tight spot.
He got in a lot of tight spots, so the idea of more ways to escape from them was an incredibly good one as far as he was concerned, so he planned to milk Vivien for all she had.
Seeing that she had indeed managed to poison her weed this time Ulric tried once again, hoping to replicate his current teachers work.

His failures still were not taking away from his morale, he knew that he was new to the topic and so it didn't bother him that he was failing over and over again, one of these times it would have to be some sort of success.

She actually sort of hoped he managed it now, he was making her look really bad. Not that anyone was around to look bad in front of anyway... So it was mostly her inner morale. She didn't mind too much though because it was him not doing well, not her so... She'd actually managed something which made her feel happy. Destroying stuff usually did. She guessed she'd need to keep showing him and trying to help him along:
"You kinda just feel the pulse and just... This is like trying to explain a woman... It isn't possible. Just, magic."
She'd seriously given up with words, but she knew her speech would be very beneficial to the man, because he just seemed like that sort of person to her. Maybe he was't though... She grabbed another handful of weeds and took another shot at turning normal stuff to dust. She actually felt something that time, but still nothing which annoyed her a little. Oh well, he should have been getting the idea by now

"You've got it right there, women and men are as different as anything in this world." Ulric said with a chuckle, raising his head up from concentrating on the weeds in order to acknowledge the surprisingly funny joke made by Vivien, he hadn't thought that she would have it in her to make a joke but there he had just heard one. And it was a rather good one at that, if his urge to laugh was anything to judge by.
Ulric wondered how much longer it would take, neither of them were actually having much success with this were they, maybe it was the area. Was there such a thing as certain areas where magic was stronger or weaker? Was that a thing? Being only a newly minted mage himself he had no real idea at all, maybe some areas nullified magic or made it harder to work magic in that area than in others, usually he had quite a few successes when trying to use his magic.
No matter, he lowered his head once again to focus on the weeds in his hand and tried again.

Vivien looked at him, the effort was showing on his face and she was pretty sure that if he wasn't trying magic he had constipation. If he did she wouldn't hesitate to hit him with a rock. He was trying though, and from what she'd seen not many people really did try in comparison. She'd give him that, but only that because he was such a happy person that she couldn't stay around him too long, she'd fall ill with happiness disease or something stupid.
"I get the feeling you're improving. But... Maybe it isn't something that will work very well for you. Lets just see how it goes and if it still doesn't work maybe we could see what else we can do"
Vivien looked at the weeds in her hands, wondering if maybe she could try destroy his instead, meaning he'd see it more close up. She leant across a little and placed her hand near-ish his and a non-weird way, and then proceeded to try this method. His weeds turned to dust in his hands after a few seconds. Seriously he was good at picking them it seemed, but at least she'd gone something done and he might actually learn now.

And once again she succeeded, except this time on his weeds. He had been foccussing himself on trying to poison them, and when it worked he was ecstatic, before looking away from the weeds and realising Vivien was in fact that one that had poisoned the weeds, not him.
He was of course annoyed that he had thought he had succeeded but had in fact failed, but his annoyance faded fairly quickly. At least he now most definitely knew that she was a good teacher as she could do it herself, that and that he had seen the effect of poison magic on the weeds up close.
Listening to what he said he flat out disagreed, it would work well for him if he had to force it to, he wasn't about giving up, rolling over and letting poison magic beat him. He would beat it, he would challenge it to a bar fight and flip a table over onto it, whether it liked it or not.
Ulric focussed once again, hoping above hope that this time it would work.

Vivien looked at him, he sure did seem confident that he'd manage to learn the art of poisons, but she felt like he'd probably need to learn something else before he could go back to it, a distraction perhaps. If he focused too much on it he'd end up messing up somewhere, or maybe he wouldn't. She didn't know him well enough for that yet:
"Let's learn something else... We can come back to it when your mind is refreshed, it's not good to concentrate on it too long. Perhaps we should go somewhere else and choose then"
She stood up, letting her legs click a little as she did so. It made sense to her that a new location was needed every time they tried to learn something else. Then she noticed the weeds still in her hand and attempted to poison them just because she could. The weeds turned black and then to dust, flying to the ground, which made her grin. It felt like she'd been quite successful right there but she didn't know quite why.
"Uh... Onwards."

"You lead the way again" Ulric said, standing as she did and dropping his weeds to the floor, annoyed that they hadn't become poisoned, stamping on them and grinding them into the dirt. It was purely out of frustration though seeing as he had yet to actually manage to poison any of them, but still he would carry on and hopefully soon he'd be able to make some more progress.
Unfortunately it seemed that Vivien had other ideas, she seemed to want to try some different kind of magic now instead of the poison one, and so Ulric would follow her to wherever she was going next in hopes of getting her to teach him another new type of magic that he could then add to his growing collection of them. As they stood she then put him to shame even more, poisoning the weeds in her hand once more.
Ulric decided he might as well try once again, attempting to poison the weed that he had so trampled into the floor, hoping that now he'd had so many failures, a single success might come from it.

The weeds for the first time actually did do as he wanted and shrivel before turning to turning to black dust. Ulric gave a little dance and shout of joy before turning to Vivien with a smile on his face. "What's next then?"
