Vivien looked at the flame in the man's hand, feeling a little bit wary of it for obvious reasons. If he was from the college or whatever it was, it meant that it could really hit her hard and could also set her on fire, which would hurt, and she didn't really enjoy being on fire, wasn't the most pleasant. As long as the man didn't really question them it should have been just fine, although he was elderly so he might forget about that the very next moment, that or set himself on fire, depending on what he did next. Thinking this she noticed what seemed to be a bead of sweat rolling down Emm's face, and although it was hot she got the feeling she'd been trying something too. The facial expression was clearly telling her to do something, but she really wasn't one for following orders.
"Not half bad, but wait until you start throwing that stuff about. Think you could hit a tree or something?"
She was actually taunting him, because she was almost certain he'd fail and set himself on fire, and she liked the idea of an old man running around on fire. With the fat he had though, it would have certainly been a good exercise. She wanted to take the fire from the old man, it felt like something to be annoying, yet she couldn't because now that Emm had suggested it, it felt like she was taking orders. Instead she tried again with her hair, this time trying to change it to have long dark blue streak in it. Nobody would notice them appear but they might be surprised to fine them there if they'd looked at her hair previously. She tried but felt nothing, which made her feel like the field they stood in was some sort of magic dampening place.

As his fire grew bigger it got more beautiful and it looked great. The fire soon went out and left a horrible burn in it's place. "No worries. I can fix that." Geoffry said. "I can heal too"

The town's name was Morreston, and it was a tiny town on the edge of an unimportant duchy that might as well be ruled by bandits. Of course, because it was ruled by bandits, the SKC had a presence there. A pair of footmen were walking the street and overheard someone say something like "my skills are observing old men failing to use magic" and "I can heal too" for example. The two of them stood there a moment and watched this whole thing go down. They saw the fire get conjured in his hands and realized they had a problem. That's why they approached, drawing their swords. "Alright everyone! Identifications out! Now! Or we start cutting throats!"

Would it be a prank? She wasn't sure. Well, it might have been, but there would be at least some elements of truth in her words. In the end she was just being overly enthusiastic about getting the old man into trouble. Plus, she wasn't particularly sure of the ins and outs of the rules, but was fairly certain that things like she would describe would be illegal.
"Thank goodness you lot are here! This old man just randomly approached me and my friend here..." she reached out and hugged Vivien's left arm to illustrate her point, hoping she wouldn't mind too much. "... and started asking us weird questions about our skills, and calling us 'girls' like some kind of playboy, and then he made fire appear in his hand, and please help us Sirs, I think he has malicious intent!"
She just kind of stood there, and let her statement sit.

Vivien actually kind of liked how this girl thought, because although she was a little bit annoying, she knew exactly what to say, as well as telling the whole truth, which she would also proceed to do too. She wasn't very comfortable with the arm hugging but she went with it simply because it made things a little bit easier. The soldier looked like they would in fact attack if they were found guilty, which they weren't of anything. They technically hadn't done anything.
"I was also wondering what he wanted... me and my friend here were just talking here when he came over. Not quite sure what he's up to but he could have hurt someone I'm sure..."
Vivien rather liked her throat so she told the whole truth, and they couldn't prove otherwise. Apart from the friend part, this girl was an oddball. But... It wasn't like they'd start playing 20 questions, and asking what each others favourite colours were, although she did worry a little. Still she hadn't done anything wrong, and the old guy technically had, so if he didn't have any papers, well then her and Emm could be a little bit troubled. It kind of all came down to the old guy now.

Geoffry looked the footmen in the eyes and thought that if he fought them he would surely lose so he thought it would be best to just show his papers. "Yes footmen. I have my identification right here in my pocket. I went to the academy you see." He replied as he fumbled around in his pocket. "Ah-ha. I've got it." He showed them the identification and waited for a reply. In the meantime he retried healing his hand.

The two footmen look the identification over. One nods to the other one. While he was distracted the one with the sword walked up behind the man and put it through his chest. The piece of iron stuck out of him like a shiny arm. Then the one with the spear laughed and pushed it into his neck slowly.
"Your identification is expired, old man. Just like you."
The bastards laughed as the old mage's blood was spilled.

"Ahhhhh" Geoffry yelled. His life flashed before his eyes, all the way from the beginning. His mum, the bear, the orb and the glowy flashing lights. His master, the brainwashing and the Academy. He got a small chill. His travels with his friends who died in their 30s. Death was near approaching. " GET OF MY LAWN" He yelled in his dying moments. After that was silence as he took his last breath. It was all over as everything went black.

Emm recoiled with a whelp of surprise and - to a certain degree - horror as blood exploded from the Old Man's neck, the spear quickly and brutally penetrating his neck and being removed. Red gushed forth like a geyser, splattering nearby walls, the ground, the soldiers, and Emm as well. It was really messy. Emm heard a gurgling noise coming from him, blood bubbling from the wound, as though he were trying to get in some profound last words (which admittedly seemed unlikely based on how he'd behaved over the last minute or so), before his eyes lost their light, his muscles went limp and his lifeless corpse collapsed to the floor, a large puddle of red staining the grass.
Emm was pretty much hiding behind Vivien at this point, still gripping her arm, only now with a genuine fear of these people. She wondered if she held any fault in his death, having accused him of having 'malicious intent', although it did seem that he'd been killed for his bad ID. She hadn't intended for them to actually kill him. He was annoying, yes, but if that was a reason for death then Emm would have been killed long ago. Regardless, Emm was pretty much certain that she wouldn't be getting much sleep for a while.
Deciding that since the old man was dead and not coming back, there would be no harm in trying to keep herself and Vivien up and standing, she made an attempt to keep up appearances for the soldiers so they (hopefully) wouldn't kill them.
"Th-thank you, sirs. I feel safer already..." She gave a lopsided smile. She was having trouble talking clearly. She was shaking, and her teeth were chattering. She was very seriously concerned that she could die here today.

Vivien watched in surprise as blood spurted out from the old guys neck, like an oozing mess of a wound which it in fact was. The metal tip of the spear followed it, which proved they had for sure killed him. He wouldn't be alive after that one. The spear through the chest might have been possible to survive, but it seemed that he wouldn't after having the air pipes he most likely used completely trashed by metal. She hadn't been expecting the swift and brutal murder of the man, but she wasn't complaining, he'd been getting on her nerves and had done very little in terms of entertaining her. She kind of wished they'd taken his head, she might have enjoyed a game of football with the girl.
"Thank you fine gentlemen. I wish I'd have known his ID wasn't valid, I'd have reported it sooner. Well at least I can sleep sound knowing someone so dangerous is gone from this plane of existence"
She thought about that for a moment. If he was gone from this plane of existence, in theory couldn't she try and bring him back? She almost laughed at that, because she really didn't want to even if she could, as it had been a mere thought in passing. Vivien looked back at the odd girl clung to her, the one that had seemed happy moments ago was now quite a bit scared. Apparently blood did that to some people, although she hadn't liked the old fat guy either so what her problem was she didn't know. All she knew was good riddance of the old guy.
"Sorry, she isn't one for blood it seems"
May as well try to cover for the girl, even if it was completely obvious anyway.

The footmen left the body where it lay. The women had started talking to them but they weren't interested. They looted the corpse, taking the money on him.
"Should just keep your head down and do what you're told, ladies. Now get go--"
"Wait a minute. I know I saw her try to do something with the fire in his hands. Let me see your identification miss."
This was about to get bad. Both of them were apostates, neither had the proper identification that would allow them to use magic. Let alone that they were practically practicing it in the open. The one with the spear leveled his weapon at Emmeryn. The other one gestured that the ID should be handed over or else.

Emm's eyes widened. What were these people? She'd barely twitched her hand and they were accusing her of witchcraft. Her grip on Vivien's arm released in the face of the soldier's bloodstained weapon, poised to impale her at the slightest bad move. Emm was one of the worst liars she'd ever met, but she hoped that now she was on death's door and her life depended on it she might be able to pull through.
"Wh-wha... no, I... I don-" Her voice shook violently, as did the rest of her body. Her legs gave out beneath her and she collapsed to her knees. She brought her hands up to her face, and found that her eyes were damp with tears. She'd started crying. Her breathing had become irregular, becoming slightly raspy and panicked. She could very seriously die here. "I d... don't h-have an ID..." She managed to get out between sobs. She was almost curled up on the floor now, tears everywhere. Her next words would decide her fate. "B-but... that's because I don't... I don't know magic!" She pulled her face out of her hands and made eye contact with the soldier, whose spear had adjusted its angle to follow her head. While her words were false, her tears were true, and she internally begged the soldier to leave her be...

The girl was pathetic Vivien had to admit, it was quite entertaining to watch she had to admit. The girl was having problems breathing and even thinking because she was obviously a mage, just didn't want to admit it because she didn't apparently have ID. It was interesting to watch as she babbled on the floor, but at least she had now let go of her arm, because the grip had been getting a little tight and annoying, and she'd only allowed her to stay attached for her own safety, for she was also an illegal magic user, not that she'd given anything away.
"She probably just had cold hands or something. She doesn't look like she could cook, let alone do something with fire now could she?"
She wasn't completely sure why she'd decided to defend the girl, but she'd been entertaining at the very least, and she didn't really like the idea of having to pay of debts, so it was either let her be killed and not pay her, or try and keep her alive. She supposed she disliked the guards quite an amount more than the girl, so defending her was more of a duty than anything. She was putting a little bit of danger about herself too, so she hoped she would get lucky. It wasn't like she was completely lying, but she would still need a bit of luck for a little bit of it.
"Look at her, she can't manage much in such a deranged state such as speaking, she just doesn't like blood quite clearly."

Well...
No Identification. And pretty obvious lies. They really had no choice now.
"You're both under arrest."
"Come peacefully or you know... we'll do you in like this guy here."
It was simple, either the two mage girls surrendered or you know they died. Or well, they probably would die. Who knows what kind of fighting skills they had, but the odds were they were definitely outclassed by these two footmen.

Emm slowly raised her head to look at the pair. While she was without a doubt grateful that they hadn't impaled her on the spot as the had the Old Man, she was beyond reluctant to just sit there and be arrested. She professed herself to be something of a free spirit, and being shut away behind metal bars and stone walls sort of defied that description. The main problem she was having was how to avoid such a fate. Combat would likely prove fatal, as lacking any weapons or elements to channel she could fight only with her fists, which packed about as much of a punch as a mashed potato, and she had no idea whether Vivien could be counted on to effectively incapacitate the two footmen.
That left running, then, as her only option - still not the best, though, as it would likely entail leaving Vivien to her own devices if she were to do it effectively as well as the fact that these two men were likely much faster than her and would definitely not take too kindly to her trying to leg it, resulting in premature death being her future once more. She would need something that would give her an edge, some kind of distraction. Given that Vivien was being arrested as well, one of the guards would stay while the other chased after Emm, and if they both came after her then Vivien would get a surefire escape, and if both stayed then Emm did. Emm decided that she was to throw off the guard that would chase her with an illusion of herself that would run in another direction, increasing her chance of escape from zero to fifty-fifty, which was much better odds. Presuming she could create the illusion in the first place. Yes, she would risk that.
She pulled her legs out from underneath her and slowly began to stand up, hands raised. She took deep breaths to calm herself, and focused to create the illusion and darting to her right as she tried to create the illusion running the straight away from the nearest footman. Sneaking a glance out of the corner of her eye as she ran, she saw the illusion darting into the trees exactly as she'd wanted. An uncontrollable grin arched across her face. She'd done it! Now she just had to hope she wasn't chased, and outrun the soldier if she was. She brought up her right hand and wiped the tears from her eyes so she could see properly, and sprinted as fast as she could out into the field. Hopefully the soldiers would think Emm would've taken the far more effective escape route of the forest than the field and hence pursue the illusion, but she couldn't be too careful.
Emm tries to create an illusion of herself to serve as a distraction.
