Jonathon walked out onto the Fordeth plains, Gabriel hopefully behind him, his mind moving at the speed of sound as he ran over how much exactly he would be willing to show her. Even if she was completely in the dark about how illegal his magic was he needed to be careful about how much he showed her of it, certain techniques he wouldn't even bother with but if he revealed the extent of his strength then he was giving away valuable information.
He didn't intend to stay in Fordeth forever, at some point he would have to leave, yet right now he was comfortable there so he didn't have to leave so soon, he'd use Fordeth as his current home-base and arm and supply himself before he left to go out into the rest of Cruinthe. He had no real idea of what he'd do once he got out of here, there was lots to see and do for a man such as himself, but one of the few things he did know was that he wanted to become stronger. Of course his first stop would be his parents bu tafter that the world was his oyster, he could do as he pleased.
A knot of emotion threatened to break forth at his thoughts of his parents but he suppressed it through an effort of superhuman will, if he began down that track again then nothing would be done at all today.
Jonathon turned to Gabriel after about 10 minutes of walking at a rather brisk pace, "It seems as if we are fine here, I can show you more of my shield magic here with no members of the public to run in fear at the display of magic."
Jonathon chuckled quietly to himself and waited for Gabriel's reply.

Gabriel had met Jonathon again in town, they quickly spoke and then Jonathon said for Gabriel to follow, Gabriel didn't know where they were going but followed Jonathon. There must be a reason why they had to go somewhere.
Jonathon walked quickly but reasonably. At least he wasn't a slow walker though Gabriel, god slow walking was so boring. You could cover double the ground in quicker time if you walked fast and then you could do more in a day. They walked out of town for a while without a hint of slowing the pace. It was nice to get out of town for a while, you forgot how packed the town was and how the air was stuffy being in the crowded streets. Now, out on the outskirts the air was nice and fresh.
A dark thought then occurred in Gabriel's mind, what would happen if Jonathon was taking her somewhere or would hurt him. Maybe he was a cultist and was going to sacrifice him. He would have to be careful. "Jonathon, I hope you are not taking me somewhere out of sight was a stupid reason or to trick me." Gabriel, even though slightly worried, played this off in a joking manor trying not to be rude if he was wrong.
"It seems as if we are fine here, I can show you more of my shield magic here with no members of the public to run in fear at the display of magic."
"Why did we fully have to go out of town? I mean couldn't we have met in another alleyway again, I mean that was nice and out of sight," and close enough for if he tried anything tricky Gabriel thought.

Again she brought up a solid question as to why he had done something, this woman was absolutely full of questions it seemed, and in some small part on some level of him, whether he would admit it or not, he kind of liked these questions and answering them. She was the first real human contact he'd had outside of the academy and if everyone was like her then he figured that he could learn to like the world now.
"No it's quite simply that the shield magic is a bigger magic and is a lot more noticeable than the manipulation of some shadows, and people would panic if I did such a big magic within the walls of the city so out here is a lot better."
Jonathon calmed himself, taking a second with his eyes closed, "Even if at it's core shield magic is for nothing but defence, it is quite noticeable, and most people cannot tell what type of magic a mage is performing so they have no idea that what i'm practising is defensive and wont harm them. People are afraid of what they don't understand."
Jonathon felt the magic in his blood go through him, he dug one finger into the soft flesh of his palm until a small wound was open and blood rose to the surface, although Gabriel wouldn't be able to see this as he kept his fist closed. Jonathon felt the natural power in his blood, he worked it into a shield in front of him, a large one tinged with red that would seperate him and Gabriel, although they would be able to see through it.

"This barrier is more for show than for anything else, this barrier is good for keeping out rain if you wish, or for stopping small objects, I haven't really tested it yet. Feel free to test it if you like although I believe it will probably be rather weak." Jonathon stepped to the side incase she did decide she wanted to test it by running her sword through it or however she saw fit to do it.

Gabriel could see the logic in the mans thinking. People do have a tendency to worry and cause panic when there is no need too. Gabriel couldn't wait to see some more of his magic though, he was intrigued but worried at the same time with the hairs on the back of his neck standing on end.
Then all of a sudden Jonathon started making a big red tinged barrier separating the two of them. Gabriel was in shock, the shield looked beautiful in a weird way. Magic really was a fine thing. "Wow, it's beautiful. What type of magic is it may I ask for this red tinged, or is it just a special thing you can do?"
Then when Jonathon said about testing the shield Gabriel had already drawn Sally without thinking. It looked like he had been more desperate to get Sally out then he thought. "Guess I could try a swipe or two." With that Gabriel quickly let out a volley of three swipes on the shield. First lunging at the shield for a stabbing attack, then quickly flicking his wrist to beautifully bring the sword back to swipe across the shield. Then, in a slightly showing off manor, span around with a spinning slash on the shield to finish off his volley.
Gabriel stood there facing away from the shield hoping that it had came down and waiting to see what Jonathon thought of the routine, Gabriel thought he had done it perfectly. Jonathon was the person who decided if it was.

Jonathon looked on at Gabriel's display of her prowess with the blade that she carried. His eye was quite untrained in matter of swords and other weapons, he could use them adequately but was much more a man of magic than of might. She fired off what seemed to be three rather quick strikes, all of them executed rather well with little room for error, although the last one showed a slight flair that could get someone killed in a real fight.
The shield, being a fairly weak one, cracked at the first strike and shattered completely as soon as the second touched it, it wasn't designed to take stress or any sort of work it was more of a weakened demonstration piece. Gabriel wouldn't know that though, she could take it any number of ways but he was hoping that she'd believe him to be weaker than he actually was as that would help him in the long run.
Considering her question for a few seconds he tried to come up with a convincing answer and was rather proud at his attempt, "It's a special magic afforded to me by position in the SKC." He hoped she'd take that bait as she knew nothing about magic anyway so it shouldn't be to hard to fool her.
"My magic can have a good amount of uses, I can shield as you have just seen, I also possess the ability to manipulate shadow which you have also seen, I'm not to bad with a bow or a blade should the need arise, although magic is by far my speciality."

Gabriel turned round and slotted Sally into its sheif. Wasn't exactly first blood, but the first time Gabriel had used her. Just from that little aray Gabriel knew that Tyr had made a master sword; perfectly balenced, and light, but strong enough to work well. Gabriel couldn't wait to try it on someone. Gabriel then thought to how strong Jonathon was, maybe he had came across a strong partner who could shield him to tank the attacks while they cleaned up after. It could be the start of an unstoppable team.
Half way through thought Gabriel caught onto something that just didn't seem right, "It's a special magic afforded to me by position in the SKC." Even though Gabriel didn't know barely anything about magic, something wasn't right. Maybe if she just asked Jonathon if he was lying he would crack under pressure and just say.
"Jonathon, are you sure about that. Something doesn't seem right here. Are you trying to lye to me." Gabriel hoped that he would find out if this was the truth or not. He didn't want to be being played around with.

She was on to him, it seemed that his lie was nowhere near as good as he had first thought. She had seen straight through it, it seems that even if she didn't have any actual knowledge of magic, she could in fact tell that what he was doing was not exactly normal, she must have observed a mage at work at some point to be able to tell this. He would have to be careful about what magics he used around her in case she would see him for what he actually was.
He considered killing her right here, he could already see her blood poured all over the ground, great puddles of the stuff as her life slowly drained away, it would be an amazing feeling as he coated his hands and weapons in it, the pure joy that it would bring him. His bloodlust rose, threatening for a few moments to break through his common sense, his eyes clouded over as he imagined the scene that could be before him.
He had been seen leaving the gate with her, if he killed her and she was found he would be suspect.
He reined himself in, the bloodlust now simmering under the surface, he would have to resolve this peacefully, "It is not SKC magic correct, it is a magic of my own devising that I use for my work, It is unusual and not known by many so I would prefer if it stayed that way."

This was just getting a little stupid. He may of been a good mage, (well maybe) but Jonathon definitely was not a good lier. "This is just getting a bit stupid, what is the actual answer. Its not like I'm going to go running and telling others." Gabriel hoped the man would finally give her a good answer. Hopefully his answer wouldn't effect her too much.
This only made Gabriel think more. Gabriel's mind was going crazy, but he knew he would have to wait for Jonathon's answer. The only answer that would hopefully be correct.

Jonathon stood by, trying to keep a hold of himself, it seemed that he wasn't able to lie to her, she kept seeing through every excuse that he made even though he personally had thought that they were rather good.
He needed to change the subject fast if she wasn't buying his excuse, hopefully she would drop the subject if she saw that he really didn't want to talk about it, but somehow after talking to her he severely doubted that. Jonathon stood for several seconds, weighing up the outcomes for a few minutes in his head, trying to think of a course of action that wouldn't force him to kill Gabriel.
"There is no other answer, I don't see why you wont just believe me, there's no reason for you not to."
Jonathon faked exasperation, as if he was getting tired of Gabriel not believing him when she clearly should. Hopefully he could convince her now or this potential alliance of there's could all go and crash and burn.
Maybe if he changed the subject....."So I've seen your skills on an inanimate object, care to find out how you fare against a living thing? We could go hunting?"

Jonathon was really starting to annoy Gabriel. He could feel the anger welling up inside of him and he wanted to let it go, but for the sake of trying to make a friendship. He kept it in, Jonathon could not see. Gabriel had to be the good boy he always had to be. He had to conceal and try not to feel, and definitely not show. Gabriel hated liers, but for Jonathon to keep going (and Gabriel was sure he was lying) it must have been something big. Maybe he was a cross dresser just like Gabriel. This could get interesting.
Then Jonathon made the anger come back to Gabriel. It was like he had just been sold an over-ripened dragon fruit for normal price. Gabriel was just about to let it go, but then he heard something that interested him. He had kept a very straight face during this to hide all his emotions. "Hunting? Is that what you mean? I mean from what I have seen you do, it's just some shielding magic. Show me something that will help us. Then we can decide about doing this and sort out the little details." Gabriel did not want to go hunting into the dangerous world with this random stranger. The wild didn't bother him anyway, but he knew that going alone could be dangerous.
Gabriel could only think back to his past when he thought of the wild, It was a scare that he would always had. The first couple of days alone in the forest was the hardest. It was like a kingdom of isolation, depressing and terrifying. Gabriel had to run from many monsters in the dark, and had to try and find a way to stay safe. Gradually he had to learn, he had. Still the scare would always make him think twice about the wild no matter how safe it seemed

Jonathon sighed slightly, this was the problem of course with people that couldn't use magic, they thought it was all point and shoot, it was far more complicated than that it took time to get right and there were stipulations that had to be followed before he could do anything if he wanted to do it properly that was.
"It's not as simple as that, i'd need a target of some sort for my preferred magics, anyway I'd much rather use my weapons instead of magic, magic drains me whereas weapons are fairly easy to use. That's why I brought the idea of hunting, I can use my shields for protection and we can both use our respective blades. Should work well right?"
His real reason for hunting was a test, he had yet to see the effect of his work on a living target, as it stood now he'd only practiced, he'd never used it for any force and thought it'd be a good chance to gain some experience while hunting. He was equipped for his travels south, but that same equipment would be fine for his use here, he would just need to replenish anything he used up while they were hunting.

All this talk was making Gabriel excited. He had wanted a hunting partner for a while. Now he had one, well a strange not really known man but it could work. Jonathon seemed up for it and hopefully if this turned out good they could carry on. His skills still seemed to make Gabriel worry, but hopefully that would change. His shields, if they were up to what Jonathon said, should be good enough.
"Well if you are ready why not go now, we r here together now so what's a better time. I mean do you know any good spots for where we could go. If you do then just take the lead."
Gabriel knew some spots, but wanted to see if Jonathon knew anywhere. Their next adventure was sure to be an exciting one. Finally a sign of a fight was in store, but the wilderness was a very dangerous place. Where nothing was as it seemed. Gabriel knew this a lot, and always kept it in the back of his mind

It was interesting to see that this woman lusted for blood so much, she obviously seemed to want to go hunting. It was intriguing for him, having been brought up surrounded by mild mannered women who did household chores and not much more, it was interesting to see a woman such as this who stood as a complete anomaly, unlike any others he had encountered before.
Was this what most women were like, had his short sheltered life before the SKC given him an altered perception of life and left him out of touch with the rest of the world or was it that while he'd been away the world had evolved. It wasn't a large point more just a slight musing. No matter, he planned on leaving Fordeth soon to head south, he'd see more people in the south and hopefully would be able to find an answer to this question.
"Hunting? No I haven't had much time for leisure so I'm not particularly sure of the best hunting spot, by all means if you know a good one lead on, i'll follow where you lead for now." A live target would be a much better test of his skills, and there was no way he could use this woman as his live target, she looked as if she might put up a fight and until he was sure of his own skills (and her usefulness) he wouldn't make any decisive action.
