The boy couldn't help but let out a rather boisterous laugh. "In that case let's hope I don't disappoint, Sir Duke!" Jorkahn's already wide grin grew even larger. "Bards will sing our tale! Even the most clever could not embellish the feats we will make, the heights we shall reach! What do you think they will call us?" Yet more laughter from the lad, enough to make him care less about failing to pick back up the trail. With a grin still on his face he continued to search, his demeanor still bright, but slowly becoming more focused. When Tyr mentioned food the Champion stopped for a moment. The sound of his stomach could be heard in the silence and he laughed again. "I suppose you are right. Here." Jorkahn reached into his pack and pulled out two of the Dragon Fruits handing one to his travelling companion. With one last look around the fledgling tracker sunk his teeth into the juicy morsel.

There was some smiling, a bit of chuckling, but at this point there was also heavy breathing. Tyr was getting tired. Endurant he may be, this was far from what he was used to. He could ride for long distances, that was fine. But this foot travel over difficult terrain, all while continuously searching for signs he could barely recognize, was something else. The fruit helped a fair bit, but the Duke was clearly limited in his ability to help with the search. Here on out it would be more up to Jorkahn to find their potential 'friend'. "I'm sure there will be a clever name about hunting. Sadly I am no shaper of words." Rhymes, puns, subtlety of phrase, those were never his gift. He could write mind you, and his instructor had been impressed with how his voice was clearly injected into the words, but his writing gravitated more towards clear and concise over fluffy and poetic.

The boy's eyes lit up upon taking a bite out of the juicy fruit in his hand. It was not because of the taste, however, at least not entirely. It seemed in his last ditch effort to look for prints his eyes glanced over a sign. Jorkahn quickly finished his snack before making his way over to the loose sediment to get a closer look. After a more detailed inspection he determined, with utmost certainty, it was a Skaldi print. Before going any further the lad retorted to Tyr's last comment.
"Alas, neither am I if I am to be honest. However, it does seem I am a master tracker!" The boast wasn't like him and made him feel a bit off, but he was attempting to joke around and maybe walk outside his comfort zone a bit. The Duke was an easy man to talk to, it seemed.
"Our quarry heads off to the west, the print is quite clear." The tracker pointed it out to his companion before heading off in the direction of the tracks. He didn't let the victory get to him, he kept focused and continued to look for more signs to guarantee they were headed in the right direction.
"If you need to rest again just let me know and I can slow down. I will do the same for you."

The small pile of dragonfruit Tyr found got squirreled away into his pack, minus two he started munching on as they went. While not overly satisfying on their own, a pair at a time hit the spot nicely. The food was providing the much needed energy to keep up the search and continue to help Jorkahn root about the rocks for clues, even if at a limited rate. The Duke smiled as the print was found, continuing to look about for more signs of passage. "Then to the west we go!" It was good to see the lad peek out of his shell. If these momentary excursions continued there would be eventual progress into helping him break that shell apart. "I should be able to continue for a while now, these fruits do quite a wonder." It was impressive really, it felt like a bit more of an immediate boost than food should really be able to provide. Made him curious. Too bad he didn't have any training in the world of Alchemy yet.

The pair would come across, in the westerly direction, a sheer face of stone that started to indicate that the mountain was becoming steeper. There on some of the stones were obvious claw markings. Sized just right for a large and old saurian that has been able to keep himself fed for a very long time. Two hundred meters beyond the first claw marking they'd find the first set of bones. Picked clean by either the skaldi, or various carrion. It was not immediately obvious as to which did so. They were close, and heading in the right direction.

Now that the Duke mentioned it the Dragonfruit the boy had consumed earlier did seem to perk him up slightly. It also made him curious as to why that was, the fruit didn't seem magical in nature. Jorkahn mostly came to the same conclusion as Tyr and decided to save these quandaries for another time. "They do seem to help." The boy became a little more excited as he eyed the claw marks in the stone. "We appear to be getting better at this! Some claw marks in the stones, and what looks like some of the Skaldi's prey." The young tracker knelt beside the bones to take a closer look at them. It seemed as if something very large and powerful, not to mention hungry, had picked this clean. Or maybe the carrion were particularly voracious while eating the remains? He assumed it was the former and continued to search for more signs as they followed the direction of the claw marks. "I think we are close. It isn't often that one goes in search of food far from home. The bones are a great indicator of nearby life and the claw marks so close makes me even more certain of that fact." He was glad to finally be done with all the hunting and the hiking. While it was great practice it was rather exhausting. But the worst part about it was he didn't know what they may run into so far into the mountains.

The bones both calmed and unnerved Tyr. Yes it meant they were close, and that this search would hopefully be over soon. However it also reminded him that they approaching a hermit Saurian in the open wilderness. If he didn't take kindly to their intrusion the pair would have one hell of a fight on their hands. Best to go on believing it wouldn't come to blows though. That was a bridge to cross when necessary. Two more dragonfruit went down the hatch and Tyr kept on following Jorkahn, trying to assist in any way with the hunting. "We need to be careful with how we approach the Saurian. I can't imagine he will be too happy we've tracked him down." It was hard to know how far away they were from their goal, or if they were even tracking the right Saurian down. So many possible doubts were started to slink their way into the Duke's mind that he had to take a moment and clear his head. This was no time to lose his nerve, now was when he needed it the most. Walking into this unsure of things would only cause problems. Setting his shoulders and calming his mind, Tyr remembered and applied some of his older teachings. Nobles led in more ways than one and confidence could be contagious. Jorkahn was the tracker, but the Duke could at least set an example by being the image of determination and spirit. "But find him we will. Lead on master tracker."

Finally the two of them found the correct place. It had been there all along of course, but in their searching they had found it. The mouth of the cave was in the face of the mountain, surrounded by large boulders with a small stream running through it. The stream was clean, as the water was clear. There were, however, large bloodstains on the sides of the mouth of the cave. Indications that something inside was capable of extreme violence. The trail had led them there however. It was likely that the old Skaldi they were looking for was here. There was only one way to find out. They had to enter.

The boy continued to head in the direction of the signs the Skaldi left behind as Tyr spoke. He nodded to the man's words before giving his own. "I know I wouldn't be happy if a group of strangers had somehow tracked me down when I didn't want them to. Although I feel it would be for different reasons." They continued onwards as the warrior's companion silently regained his composure before speaking again. Jorkahn began to respond, smiling at the compliment. "I am but a novice, really. I wouldn't be surprised if we nev-"The Champion stopped in his tracks as the mouth of the cave came into view. He took in the surroundings and noticed the blood on the edges of the outer walls. The muscles under his face tensed up in a look of concentration before the boy turned back to look at Tyr with another large smile on his face. "Well, maybe you're right!" The smaller man laughed and looked back at the cave. "Do you want to rest first? Or should we go straight into adventure? If the latter, who should go in first?" Jorkahn understood he was more of the warrior type and probably had a bit more training than Tyr in that department, but he also recognized that Tyr was bigger, stronger, and had much better gear than he did.

The cave had an ominous air around it, probably the blood, but nothing a little self-determination and courage couldn't handle. To have come this far was an excellent showing of Jorkahn's tracking abilities, a talent Tyr had a keen interest in for future projects. Fur was hard to come by these days without significant travel costs, as were good bones. He needed both, and maybe now he would have a supplier. Who better than someone he knew and was starting to openly trust? "I think we should try being polite." Tyr stepped up to the mouth of the cave and called into it in regular Cruic with a powerful voice, keeping it clear but calm. No need to sound angry and risk antagonizing someone. "Nockmantool, we wish to speak with you. We have meat to offer." This was, probably, the Skaldi's home. Who wouldn't be irritated at a pair of stranger barging their way in?

The amateur hunter did not miss any details of importance during his examination of the entrance. It was clearly an animal den of some kind, most likely a Skaldi by the looks of it. Tyr called into the cave, the sound of his voice reverberating off of the stone walls. A low tumbling growl came out of the cave in response. Perhaps a sign to enter, perhaps a sign to stay away. There were several moments of silence between that, and the next noises to exit the cave which was also much like a growl.
"Enter... humans."
The voice had not accounted for any half-breeds. Not that they would matter to it beyond the simple fact that those persons were half-breeds. Nak'mantul would not care for one race more than the other. He had lived a long time. All hated the Skaldi equally. All treated them like monsters.

The smile dropped from the boy's face as Tyr responded. Jorkahn hadn't thought about that, and he felt like an idiot. The boy tried to be as open-minded and polite as possible and yet he had overlooked such a simple courtesy. It shouldn't affect him so much, but the boy was an emotional sort. Good thing he wasn't able to dwell on those feelings for very long. With a start, the young warrior gazed in the direction of the cave where a somewhat menacing growl had escaped from. He swallowed a lump that had suddenly become caught in his throat. For some reason the cave suddenly looked a lot more ominous and uninviting. Jorkahn's earlier outgoing demeanor had changed to his familiar shy cautiousness. He hadn't run into many Skaldi, preffering to avoid them in the wild if he could, so he didn't really know what to expect. He had seen a few at a distance, and some of the other families in Viktoria had had them as slaves. They had always been big. The boy looked nervously at Tyr, his courage suddenly drained. He would wait for the Duke to go in first, or for something else to happen.

The rumbling voice from within the cave broadened Tyr's ever-present smile to the creases of his eyes. They had done it. Jorkahn had found the cave with his adept tracking skills, and the Duke had earned them an audience. Granted there was the idea that the Saurian could just ambush and kill them, earning it the meat they brought and the meat of the guests, but if Na'ka had directed him here then there was nothing to do but trust Nockmantool was relatively honorable. Granted that then perhaps knowledge of the Skaldi language and culture was finally within his reach. It would be one more link in the long chain he'd recently started forging, and one that would hopefully join two sections together. Tyr looked to the lad beside him and clapped Jorkahn on the shoulder. "Well done getting us here. If it's all the same to you I'll lead us on from here." He presented it like a choice to give Jorkahn a dignified way out of his pausing. As a nobleman and leader of soldiers he was expected to present resolute courage in all matters. How could he expect anyone to follow him otherwise? Tyr pulled the lantern free from his pack and lit it, stepping carefully into the cave. The stream would present some slippery footing and he felt it better to avoid that as much as possible. His hands never strayed towards a weapon, in case the Saurian was watching, and he never looked back except to make sure Jorkahn was following. It was time to demonstrate why they called him a Duke.
