The young boy watched the craftsman put together yet another useful item. This time around it was a tent. Having camped before Jorkahn supposed a tent was simple enough in concept, but it looked a little more complicated than he had originally thought it would be. He would never look at a tent the same way again knowing now how it was built. The seams had to be really tight and the walls thick enough to block the wind, rain, and other weather. It also had to be sturdy enough to support the extra weight from the condensation, rain, or snow. Jorkahn was snapped out of his focus when Tyr spoke again. The Duke had a slightly perplexed look on his face.
"Oh yes, it took me years to finally be able to cast magic. Perhaps that was my fault, all of it was self taught. Maybe I should have attempted to look for a tutor. My parents never would have let me, they didn't react very pleasantly when I was interested in it as a kid. So I had to hide it from them. That made things... Difficult." The lad was lost in thought when Tyr finished the tent and then offered it to him.
"I have a bit of room left in my pack, I believe." The fledgling warrior took his pack out from beneath his cloak, shifted some items around, and barely managed to stuff the tent within. Placing the pack back where it belonged he smiled at Tyr.
"Anything else?"

Both sides had some truth to their arguments, but it seemed like leaving it be was the better route to take here. No point in pushing back, it wouldn't benefit their friendship at all. Tyr shrugged and nodded in acceptance of Jorkahn's words, briefly clapping his hands against his legs. Residue from the recently worked leather added to dust from the floor and darkened the underlying portion of his ring mail. Might as well mark himself a shaper right?
"That should be everything for now. If I had the materials I could make use some true travel packs, but right now I don't have the supplies on hand. Soon though, I placed an order to Kable's company and need only await their arrival." The cloth in that order would be wonderful to work. No one had supplied that for a while, and it remained one of the few things he'd been taught that he didn't have much experience with yet. "For now we'll just have to make do. Ready for the road?"
Provided a positive reply Tyr would lead the pair out of the warehouse, locking it up as they left, and guide them north along the road towards the forest. Time to go Saurian searching.

Tyr wiped down his hands and moved to leave as he spoke. In response the boy he was talking to stood up, wiping the dust from the floor off his cloak. While the building wasn't filthy it could probably use a good cleaning. Then again, it was just a warehouse. Unless there was an infestation of some kind or a lot of food being stored, a little dust wouldn't really hurt. Or so he thought.
"I used to have a bigger pack, but I lost it somewhere between here and Viktoria running from a couple of wolves. Lost the few weapons I had on me. Now I keep my pack on me at all times." Jorkahn smiled and patted the pack under his cloak. "But yes a larger pack would sure be nice. It is surprising how much you need to carry to be prepared for any situation." They left through the same door they came in. They were some ways up the road before he spoke again.
"Speaking of running out of space, would it be alright if I purchased a small shack on your lands? I need somewhere to store some extra items that I have not the room to carry."

"That's where being able to make do comes in handy. If we can find the supplies in the wild, I can try to fashion some useful stuff without needing to carry it with us. Also being able to hunt would be good, then we wouldn't need to carry as much food. I should be able to find some dragonfruit in the wild to tide us over though." He was sorely lacking in hunting proficiency, something he should probably learn if he ever intended to take more trips into the wild. The road would lead past the grod in production, and eventually the pair would reach the bridge leading over the river, marking the end of the town and the beginning of a rough path leading up to the mountain. This was the miner's road, and the only path north. For the traveling pair however, it wasn't a path they'd be taking. They didn't want to reach the mountains, they wanted to reach the valley the river flowed from. It would be a more roundabout method, but they'd travel along the river until the mountains surrounded them and then start searching for the hermit Skaldi. Finding him would be...interesting, but it would be it could be a great learning experience. "We can definitely discuss some terms after this. I have no issue with you renting a space, but we may have more to discuss depending on how things go here." If everything went well and the pair could work together to accomplish this task, Tyr might offer the young lad a more substantial position at his side. Maybe the chance to be a Ritgr....

"Well then you brought the right man for the job!" The boy turned to the larger male and grinned, shoving his thumb into his own chest. It was terribly out of character. He looked like an idiot, felt like an idiot, needless to say his face turned red and he cleared his throat, returning to a normal gait as they continued to walk. "I frequent the wilds, so I know what to look for when it comes to food and useful items. At least somewhat. I can also hunt! I learned these things from a book, the hunting more from personal experience." Jorkahn laughed nervously and gently rubbed the back of his head. "But as I said before, I only really know the basics."As they walked the boy looked around curiously at the construction, the layout of the duchy, and the scenery around them. Ever since meeting Tyr the craftsman had been rather busy. And, looking around, it seemed that just about everyone in the duchy was hard at work as well. It was inspiring to see everyone working so hard. It made Jorkahn want to help out in any way he could. "Excellent!" Another smile. But what did he mean by possibly having to discuss more after? The young Wealddir didn't really understand what the Duke meant by that exactly. He didn't think it was anything to worry about, but perhaps it was? He shook his head, no point in dwelling on it for now. He had to pay attention, he didn't know the area very well and didn't want to get lost. "So do we have a plan? Or do we just plan to search in the general area, where we think the Hermit may be?" It was a matter of fact question. Like always he hoped Tyr didn't take offense to the way he asked it.

"For now we follow the river. Understand now that this won't be a short trip, we'll be gone for at least three days, likely more. The first day alone will be spent reaching the start of the valley, and from there we search. All we know is he will be somewhere in the valley, and nothing else. Once we find the Skaldi we'll go from there. To return all we need do is follow the river." As long as they weren't dead getting back to the Duchy would be easy. Follow the flow of the river until you found civilization. Simple. It was the 'as long as they weren't dead' part that could potentially be tricky. "Your hunting will come in handy. If any of the serpent flesh spoils we might need to find more to bargain with. You could even teach me that as well if you wanted to get ahead on that knowledge trade of ours." Not that he would use it very often, but hunting would be a fantastic skill to learn. You never knew when you could apply some esoteric knowledge in a nonstandard way. Learning to hunt could make understanding and tracking some of the more animalistic races easier. In the case of a Skaldi, that would be very helpful right now.

Jorkahn nodded as Tyr explained what was going to happen. He didn't really except for the trip to be short. In fact, they could be out there for weeks if circumstances called for it. What was to say the hermit would come back to civilization with them? If Tyr wanted to learn Sissak it was doubtful that he could learn it in a few days. He didn't think Tyr was stupid, but that was asking for too much. "I am as prepared as I can be to be out for a while. After all I have been travelling on foot from Viktoria the past three or so months. Hopefully that means something to the gods that be." He said the last bit somewhat sarcastically, Jorkahn wasn't a very religious fellow. He didn't fault others for believing, it just wasn't something he partook in. As he was thinking and they were walking the Duke spoke some more. "I hope to be of use. If it comes down to it I can always show you the basics. You know, how to mask your smell, how to sneak around, how to approach animals. Things like that." Though it was apparent the warrior was listening to his companion, he rarely looked at the other man. His eyes were instead wandering around, looking at all that he could see. He looked for out of place movements in the foliage, strange colors and even listened for odd sounds. Sometimes being part Elkagr came in handy. He would continue to follow closely behind Tyr. The Duke of Mardok likely knew the area better than him anyhow.

It was odd to hear a reference to the gods. That didn't happen much these days, most people weren't very religious. Tyr didn't mind much, being tolerant of quite a lot, and just let it go. It was the teaching of hunting that would be important. "The concepts of hunting seem fairly straightforward. Hide, don't make noise, don't let them smell you. Find your prey using what it leaves behind, that kind of thing. It's more of the doing that I need help with. Once we reach the valley you could probably use the same techniques to make finding our hermit Skaldi easier. I'll watch and learn then, but you can fully teach me another time." The trek would already be long enough, what with not knowing how long it would be anyway, so taking the time to be taught how to hunt would just add an unnecessary setback. Leading along the river was easy enough. They'd be walking for a good while beside it until there was a mountain on both sides. That would be the entrance of the valley they wanted, and the search would begin in earnest. It was also a day's walk away so it wasn't like they were going to find it any time soon.
Time skip will begin after Jorkahn's next post. The jump will be up to when the pair wakes up at the start of the valley.

In theory hunting was rather easy, aspects of it often falling into the common sense aspect of life. In practice it was a bit more difficult. It took time to train the body. It was a lot more difficult to keep quiet than one may think. Every creature would react differently to your presence, some were smarter or more alert than others, the age of the animal also played a big role. But at the moment that wasn't really important, what was important was finding the entrance to the valley. "Good thing I have all the time in the world." The boy grinned at the larger man. "Hopefully tracking the Skaldi will be easy. Although, something tells me he won't be the easiest thing to find. If he has been living here long by himself, he likely tries to avoid conflict when possible. My father says slavers can be quite resourceful sometimes." Jorkahn wasn't terribly knowledgable of the outside world or outside of the topics he had been taught or come across of the years. "Or perhaps I am just overthinking things?"
Time skip whenever.

"Oh no, that's a fair point. Since this Saurian has managed to maintain hermit status for so long it's likely he will be difficult to find." The mention of slavers only briefly darkened Tyr's expression. They were very much not welcome on his land but every now and then a group found their way on anyway. Honestly he was fine with them as long as they acted properly and didn't practice their trade. People were driven by coin though, and several had abused his trust in the past. Since then if you were found to be a slaver you could expect to be escorted by sword point from the Duchy. Tyr pushed the thoughts from his mind and focused on watching the land around him. It wasn't often that he got out so seeing his land in person was a rare pleasure. The time flew quickly as the pair traveled and eventually the sun fell from the sky, replaced by the bright white moon. It was a beautiful sight to behold, but eventually the pair had to stop for rest. A fire was made, the tent got set up, the bags came out, and the pair slept. They'd made it most of the way to the start of their destination and the next day would be the beginning of their search in earnest.
The dawn came early and Tyr woke with it. Sleeping in his meager armor had left him somewhat sore, but at least he wouldn't have been dead immediately should something attack them in the dead of night. Probably shortly after, but at least not immediately. With some brief stretching the Duke shook the stiffness from his limbs and climbed out of the bag, rolling it up neatly before stepping out of the tent. It was a cool morning, dew glistened off the grass, and Tyr sat near the remnants of their campfire to heat up a little while waiting for his traveling companion to join him.

Jorkahn didn't notice his partner's change in demeanor. He had been looking away when it flashed across the man's face. When the boy looked back to listen to Tyr speak it had already been replaced with his previous mood. He nodded at the Duke's words, glad that he agreed. There wasn't really much else to talk about until they reached the entrance to the valley. As time passed and the sun began to set Jorkahn started looking towards the horizon and the sky beyond more often. He had become quite familiar with a sunset, he made it a point to witness them in as many different locations as possible. It was amazing how different the experience could be depending on where you were. Some places the light caught the trees or the mountain just right, or different materials in the air could slightly change the hue of the colors. There were many other factors that made each locale's beauty unique. It wasn't very long before the sun set completely. The moons and red rings of Velghast shone brightly in the sky, reflecting light from the sun. The camp was set up rather quickly and it was a bit before Jorkahn finally fell asleep. He wasn't used to sleeping in the same room let alone the same tent as someone else.
Sleeping in full armor didn't help either. The boy gave a great, roaring yawn. At the same time he stretched and heard nearly every joint in his body pop and crack. While the night of sleep could have been a lot more uncomfortable, he had to find a way to make it so sleeping in armor wouldn't make you so sore in the morning. As the wakening warrior exited the tent he saw Tyr sitting by the burnt out campfire. Having more room the boy once again stretched and yawned. It was such a satisfying feeling. Pulling his cloak around him Jorkahn walked over to the fire and sat next to Tyr. He picked up a stick and began to poke and prod at the embers before throwing a bit of grass and leaves atop. When those began to burn the boy dropped a few twigs atop. Nothing big for now, just to keep warm and keep the bugs away. "So, where do we start today?"

Jorkahn joined him shortly after he woke up and starting poking the fire to life. It was a good question really, one Tyr didn't know the answer to. The valley was huge and they were only at the base of it. Where to go from here? "Well, everything needs water to live right? If we keep looking along the river we might find some clue to lead us on. Otherwise we'll just have to search in the places that don't look like wonderful camping sites and hope he's there." Outside of hand searching every single square mile all they could do was look for clues and hope to find one. "If we still have no idea where to go after today, or any solid leads, we'll pack it up and head back. Sound good?"

The boy nodded when Tyr was done speaking. "Sounds great!" Jorkahn smiled and then glanced at the fire. "Shall we get going now? Or would you like to take a moment? Perhaps to eat or for some other reason?" There wasn't really much else to say. Though, he supposed he could respond to the Duke's wonderings. "I suppose the river would be a safe bet. However I can't help but wonder if he realizes this, and in wanting to stay hidden, stays clear from it. We shall just have to see."The half breed kept the craftsman's gaze as he waited for the man's response.

The Duke shrugged. He didn't really have much food packed actually, all he had was the raw serpent flesh he'd brought. Perhaps they'd have to forage some during the day so keep fed. Maybe hunt before nightfall and see what they turned up. If it really came down to it they could cook some of the serpent and try to replace it later. Maybe figure out where this Skaldi was and come back later with packed provisions. The search was important, but not as important as their lives. "I say we head out but keep an eye open for food. We'll probably need to stop about mid-day and see if we can't rustle up some food. If all else fails I have the packed meat we can cook. Can't go hungry for too long after all." If they couldn't find the Skaldi the meat would be useless anyway. Might as well cook and eat it at that point. "As you know more about hunting, please lead on." The Duke shuffled to his feet and stretched, preparing to follow his companion further into the wild woods ahead.

Jorkahn thought to himself for a moment before mimicking the Duke's earlier body language, shrugging that is. "Well, I suppose our first priority would be to search for signs of the Skaldi. Who knows, perhaps we will get lucky and find signs of him right away?" The boy suddenly stood up and pulled his hood down to open his senses as much as possible. "We can always find more food at a later time, besides this place seems ideal for plant and animal life to flourish, so I would imagine we wouldn't have to look hard." The half breed laughed in spite of himself, hoping his words wouldn't come back to bite them all in the ass later. When all was said and done the half Elkagr took in a deep breath through his nose and slowly began to spin his head around, peering through the forest. "Let's start by heading towards the waterfall, we can probably leave our tents set up for when we return. If you want to douse the fire you can." Jorkahn looked a bit more serious and concentrated than normal. He seemed to get by quite well in the great outdoors. The boy would begin walking in the direction of the waterfall looking for signs of the Skaldi the whole way. He would only stop if he found something substantial or some other important factor, like Tyr or fending for his life, should crop up.
