Having satisfied his personal crafting craving for a little while Tyr found he had to actually sit down and get to governing a little. There were petty disputes to deal with, people who wanted things changed, officials who wanted a direction to work towards, future social plans to be drawn up. It was a stream of tedium with one bit following another. The Duke eventually just tasked someone to follow him around with the individual things demanding his attention while he went about trying to improve his Duchy. They were in serious need of buildings and infrastructure. The roads were cracking and falling apart, no economic places had managed to continue to function. His father had left him a shitty situation but he intended to make it better in a hurry.
First was the local farm land. The barn had collapsed in upon itself, the fences were broken, and none of the fields were tilled. With the recent acquisition of wood and stone supply lines they finally had the materials to rebuild it all. Rounding up a few of the unemployed people in his land he made an impromptu building squad, a bunch of men and women following his directions to get things working again. The fences were taken apart, good posts being left in and bad ones being replaced. The barn had been cleared away and a new structure was being formed before getting raised up. Tyr was hammering away at the wood with the rest of them while dealing with his new aide's endless list.
"The miner's guild have once again asked that something be done about the collapsed tunnels. They say that their only profitable veins of ore have been cut off." Collapsed tunnels. Gravity thou art a heartless...thing. Tyr nailed one of the wall's beams into place then wiped the sweat from his brow. The mine would be good to get going again, but the farm took precedence.
"We'll head over there and see what we can do after this barn is raised." Stepping back to observe the process the other citizens finished the basic structure and prepared to life it. If they could get this right Tyr was confident they'd be able to proceed without him.

The frame held together when it was lifted and the building crew took to securing it together, putting a ring of ropes around it while hammering nails in at the same time. From there the work was simple. Stack stone blocks between the frame to create solid walls and nail some planks around it all to hold it together neatly. Boom, solid barn that wouldn't be falling apart any time soon, and with the fence being remade that about handled it. Any decent farmhand could take the tools Tyr had crafted and till the land. Things were starting to look up. Handing his tools off the Duke started the brisk walk towards the Duchy's mine. This was going to be a fun challenge too.
"Sir, I don't think this is a good idea. What if the walls collapse on you?" The aide was speaking in that shrilly voice of his again that made Tyr want to throw him in a hot springs for some relaxation. Worrying never got anything done, and harping on safety didn't make things any less dangerous. Actually practicing it did.
"That's why we have these logs. We'll dig this side tunnel, reinforce the ceiling as we go, and hopefully breach into the mine..." The Duke scanned the map, trying to plan the best route for this. The map helped a lot in avoiding taking a shot in the dark, but it still wasn't perfect. What he wouldn't give for the ability to see through the mountain itself. Tyr pointed to a bend in the tunnel, intoning "Here." with the cold confidence of a man who'd done such a thing dozens of times. If only. Several of the miners nodded in agreement though so he couldn't have chosen too bad a point to dig for. They packed up and headed towards the mine entrance, carting several loads of logs with them. Once they reached the cave in the teams started digging diagonal to it, punching through rock and dirt to hopefully find some uncollapsed section of the old mine. They were avoiding digging through what had fallen in the hopes of avoiding an unstable ceiling that might drop on them again should they clear out the tunnel remains.
Beams went up as they went, shoring the ceiling up against another potential drop. Tyr stayed at the front of the tunnel, smashing away with his pick. His presence and endurance gave strength to the miners, inspiring them to try and keep up with him. Years of smithing helped here, though not as much as the other's years of mining. He set the pace as long as he could, eventually stepping back to catchhis breath, arms shaking as he dropped the pick for the first time in an hour. Water was brought and he observed their progress. They'd gone several dozen yards, they should have breached the old tunnels by now...

The stone wall in front of the miners collapsed forward and timbers were rushed in to reinforce the old tunnel's roof before it too could come crashing down. There were cheers all around, several claps on each others backs, and Tyr shook more than one hand as he leaned back and watched the miners go about their business. With the mine reopened his land would once again produce ore to use and trade. It was a good first step towards restoring the economy of the Duchy, plus it gave him some spare materials to work with every now and again. Speaking of materials, why waste a good opportunity? Hefting the pick for a little while longer Tyr took to the mine itself and started smashing away, looking for anything of value.
Used Gather.
"Duke Mardok there are still some thi-" Tyr held a hand up to stop the lad, gulping down the rest of the water in his cup.
"What have I told you?" Calarus, as Tyr had found out he was called, looked visibly distressed. He was a boy of tradition, fond of all things proper. He would make a good ambassador if Tyr could ever get through to him.
"Your name is Tyr, your father was Duke Mardok, and I need to relax." The list came out in a hurry, covering the slightest sigh of concession. Maybe there was hope for him yet. "There are yet more things that demand your attention sir." Maybe.
Off the pair went out of the mine and back to the forest. Across the river from town there was yet another group in the process of setting up a lumber mill. It was incredibly useful to have the forest right by the river, they could just float cut trees down it and they'd get picked up at town. Putting a mill right ON the river would make it even faster, they could float down right into the place they'd get chopped apart. Efficiency at its' finest! The trouble was getting the water wheel to work quite right. It seemed there was some difficulty with the rough gears that had been produced, they were having a difficult time lining up properly and fitting in. Tyr's inner engineer took over and started having teeth filed deeper, pieces slotted in in various orders, and people holding the wheel to get it to turn in a slow, controlled manner. With a final clunk the main gear was engaged for the crude saw and Tyr ordered the wheel released. If everything worked properly the blades would move and the lumber industry would get oh so much easier.

The wheel started spinning with the current of the river and the gears clunked as they all collided together. The stress built and....they turned. There was a brief jerk as the motion started and then things continued smoothly on, the blade turning and a small chain catch bringing a log up from the river. It was brilliant and Tyr was impressed that his people had made most of it themselves, only a little design input coming from him.
Calarus stopped being amazed a moment later though and brought Tyr back to Val'Ghast quickly as well. The Duke had more places to be today, and the sooner he got there the quicker he could be free of his aide. Maybe. Who knew with this job really, stuff could happen at a moment's notice and that was just life. Next in line was the actual Fishery. The river provided more than just power, it gave them a secondary source of food. They just needed to actually set it up.
Tyr found the group handling it in the midst of trying to portion off part of the river. They'd split part of the river off with stone and were setting wood slats in a diagonal grid to create a sluice gate fish weren't likely to get out of. It would keep the water flowing and the fish inside. Boom, instant reserve of fish to harvest every now and again instead of some random people trying for the luck of the river. The trouble was it wasn't a whole lot of space and that meant not a whole lot of fish.
Tyr started dragging a spade in a large swath around the river, marking a section to be dug out. A small man made pond would allow for more fish, packing the dirt and clay before lining it with stone would stop it from draining down much, and creating a second gate at the end would allow for the water to flow. Once the marking was done Tyr got to actually digging with the people. Might as well help get it done faster.

Tyr failed to inspire his men to any great lengths in the construction of the fishery. That does not however mean that they failed to build it. It simply was no great endeavor. With the labor and materials bought and paid for the fishery was constructed with no problems at all.
