Personality:
Nomadic in lifestyle and nature, Fabre isn’t one to stay still for long. She is easily bored and has a monotonous, usually uninterested attitude. Her words may seem cold, but she would rather be rational than idealistic. Fabre is blunt, sharp even, and cares little for the “mood” of a situation when it stands in the way of accomplishment.
In dangerous situations, Fabre will selfishly flee without notice or word. She values her own life above others. It is difficult for her to grow attached to any other life because she understands it as fragile, weak, and even a burden. Trust is shaky and words are false to Fabre. Actions impress her, but she is always in a constant state of questioning intent. If she can avoid it, Fabre would go without revealing her true thoughts and feelings to people that she cannot trust – everyone. Therefore, Fabre always hides behind a cheery, flamboyant, and confident mask.
As an artist, Fabre is a perfectionist. She won’t stand for mistakes and often critiques others for their fallacies. Her outward confidence in her own work and appearance seem to be narcissistic, but she actually has many anxieties pertaining to her artistic ability and physique.
Once Fabre becomes interested in something, she develops somewhat of an obsessive personality. She’ll become completely enamored and absorbed in whatever peeked her interest and won’t leave it alone until she has tired the inspiration. This fascination could last a second to years, depending on the situation or person.
Fabre is currently suffering from nightmares and hallucinations caused by inner feelings of shame and traumatic experiences.
History:
Found in a distant land by a traveling artisan, Fabre was brought to Cruinthe at a young age. She was raised by this artist in his small craftsman’s studio on the outskirts of Fordeth. For all of her youth, Fabre grew up believing that the artist – of whom she called “Papa” – was her true father. The origins of her birth were unknown to the man and she had been found in a land that was destroyed, so he accepted the idea.
Their life was peaceful. “Papa” crafted anything the Sovereign asked, from smithing armor to building homes, Fabre was able to witness all of this. Though, she wasn’t allowed out much, as it was a bit odd for a human of her appearance to be seen with a pureblood elf of his status. Over time, the little human developed a strong urge for adventure. She wanted to explore, not be trapped inside.
This led her to leave during a day when “Papa” was out on business. She wandered into Fordeth and lost herself among the winding streets. A young girl around the age of 15 among the dirt of civilization would find themselves in a dangerous environment – of which Fabre learned once dark fell. She was able to escape, but not before gaining some nightmarish memories. The human returned home to a devastated father wrought with worry.
After that, things changed. Fabre didn’t wander anymore and she avoided conversations on most accounts. This concerned her father greatly and it was only after having suffered a light stroke, that Fabre decided she couldn’t let this pain hurt anyone important to her. Fabre rejected what happened to her. She put on a face that would make her father smile and focused distractions. Fabre invested much of her interest in her father’s practice, studying his work. Fabre’s sudden take for the craft inspired “Papa” to share a secret with his daughter. He showed her untouched paintings and hidden journals full of his artistic knowledge.
Fabre used those to keep herself from growing “bored” – or reverting back to the foul memories of her past. For several years, Fabre did her best to grasp the ideas of an artisan. Unfortunately, she grew careless once more. One night, an official from the Sovereign visited the shop asking for “Papa”. The man had gone out on an errand and told Fabre to lock up shop. She had been distracted reading one of his books on “painting”. The official saw this and took the book. He threatened Fabre and would have done more if her father had not returned. The craftsman was charged with treason for the keeping of ancient texts. He was ordered arrested and taken from the home, but not before warning Fabre to leave this place and never return.
Later in the night, when Fabre was packing all she could carry, men came to the house and burned all of the old man’s work. They searched for Fabre, but she had escaped. She watched her home burn as she ran. All that she had tried so hard to keep whole had split in two with one little mistake.
But she never lost hope in fixing the deed. Not until returning a month later to find a crowd gathered around the gallows. The Sovereign were cleaning their filth from the street, a long line of the accused waiting to die. Among them was her father. He recognized her among the crowd despite her disguise and pleaded she do nothing. So she did. Fabre stood there, expressionless - save for the tears filling her eyes – as she watched her father be hanged. At that moment, Fabre lost the courage to care anymore. She cut off any mortal strings she had to this world. Her only hope in this world rest in learning the crafts of her father and increasing her knowledge in the ancient legends he had shared of art. To do this, she must survive. Fabre doesn’t care how she achieves this survival, whether it is with coin or flesh. She simply lives to see another day.
Perhaps, one day her heart will beat again.
