Roll Results Success
Rithaleya finds that the text is written in two languages. The top text was written in High Cruic, the rest of the etchings are in Arcane Cruic.
"Only those with truly roguish skills in the lock makers art may test themselves here."
The bottom text was indecipherable.

Fyrra looked at the text when Rithaleya had pointed it out. Though she was literate in her mother tongue, Cruic was still a foreign language to her. She had not had any lessons on high Cruic or how to read it. She had picked up her Cruic from people while on humanitarian missions. Sometimes it created a hole in her vocabulary.
"I'm not sure what it says. Looks like High Cruic to me. And I haven't a clue what the rest of it could be in. Elkagr for all I know. Or something else."

"The part at the bottom's in Cruic-for-mages. Up here, it just says this is a test for 'truly ro-gyoosh' lockmakers, whatever that means." Rithaleya stands up and heads for the exit. "I don't think that was the farmer's idea..." She put her dagger away and picked up the farm tool she'd left laying outside, and started marching toward the barn... though after about seven steps she got nervous and turned toward the grain storage, instead. Once she was in range, she set her tool down and prepared a few arrows again to take aim at one of the two salamanders along the way, without cover or a hiding place, this time. "I'll take the one on the right, alright?"

"Strange, none of us have the skills it asks for."
"Still, she's right. Likely not something the farmer left behind."
They proceeded outside. Fyrra and Merrake both spotted the salamanders as they had changed course towards the silo. Merrake held onto her sword while Fyrra motioned that she would this time attack herself. Now that she knew the half-elf wasn't going to lynch her for using magic. This would be a good place to get used to her newfound necromancy powers. She targeted the salamander that Rithaleya was not going to attack, and attempted to shatter one of its bones. She hoped for the skull so that the bone would splinter into its tiny animal brain, but she didn't have that kind of control over this particular ability. It was more or less left to chance. As she did so she spoke.
"I shall take the other one then."

The Salamanders were minding their own business for the most part, until they were approached that is. Rithaleya had fired one shot at the salamander she was targeting, and the arrow just barely missed it. That drew its attention even more than the people's approach. As it turned and began its preparations to charge it took the second arrow in the chest. It died instantly, and fell with a wet slap to the ground where blood began to pool under it. The arrow snapped under the creature's weight. The second beast felt a sharp and terrible pain in its left thigh as the bone snapped and shattered to pieces. It yelped in pain and thrashed for a second before picking a target and charging them. Fyrra was the first thing it saw, and it charged at her as fast as it could with one leg bone shattered. That leg began to swell, as the artery in the thigh had been lacerated by bone. It lunged at Fyrra, but in its bloodlust and pain it missed by a wide margin. Another salamander came on to the field down between the shack and the farmhouse. This one had become attracted to the battle by the dying breath of the one Rithaleya had killed. It approached from behind the group. Salamander LeftHP: 110/160 Sm: 13/16 MP: 53/53 Salamander NewHP: 160/160 Sm: 16/16 MP: 53/53

Rithaleya glanced over at Fyrra as she picked up her third arrow and spun around to follow the source of the new sound. "All under control, there? Another one's coming." Ordinarily, she'd kneel for a better shot against a moving target, but she could only fire her new longbow if she stayed standing. Hopefully, the power of her new bow would make up for it--which was to say, hopefully she would still hit her new target.

"I'm fine!"
Fyrra said as the salamander's lunge missed her by a scant few feet. The creature was dumb, and slow. Fyrra, however, was not going to stop defending herself. She drew her dagger and would attempt to cut the beast across the nose if it came close to her again, as well as staying on her feet to dodge. With her free hand she made a circle between her thumb and forefinger and brought it up to her mouth. A cyclone of harsh flames jetted out of her mouth at the Salamander, hopefully setting it on fire and crippling it more.
Merrake took the opportunity to flank the creature. It was her job as body guard to keep her charge safe, and she was going to do that by putting herself in harms way. She wanted to stay out of the Kalimbra's line of sight, as she had come to realize her charge's spellcasting has branched out from the normal healing and fire breathing. Yet when the Kalimbra attempted her firebreath spell, Merrake started yelling at her, and unleashed a painful slash at the creature with her sword, followed by another.
"Watch it!"

Fyrra dodged the Salamanders attack and drenched it with hot flames from her Firebreath spell, her dagger then skated across the creature's back harmlessly. Merrake got a particularly painful slash in on the creature's abdomen, causing it to yelp in pain and only attack Fyrra once, which she dodged, and Merrake once, which also missed. The new salamander was beset by arrows. Rithaleya had hit the creature twice with her long bow, one arrow in its abdomen, and another in its lower leg. Neither wound was a critical one, and the creature pressed on, getting past her defenses and sinking its teeth into her left side. Her armor protected her from a small portion of the monster's sharp teeth.

This was what Rithaleya had been concerned would happen. She'd spun away from the Salamander to keep it from worrying her, and pulled out her knife, reversed grip, stabbing down wildly in hopes of a lucky hit on the back of its neck, before taking a few steps back to try and knock its jaw aside, so she could plant her blade in its throat. It was a bit larger than the foes she was used to fighting, and she wasn't really used to fighting anything like this...

"This one looks like it's about to fall over."
"Let's help Rithaleya then."
Fyrra turned and noticed that the other salamander had gotten a piece of Rithaleya's side. This other salamander looked healthy. The other was about to die. She focused on healing Rithaleya's wounds first. Kniting her flesh together with the power. Then she turned her wrath onto the salamander, willing it to lose either its eyesight or its hearing. She could not shatter a bone yet like she had with the other, it was still too soon. Otherwise she would have done that.
Merrake had turned on her heel as well, sheathing her sword in the same fluid move. Then she brought up her short bow and took aim at the salamander that was attacking Rithaleya, firing two shots, one after the other, at the creature's head. Hopefully this one would die as quickly as the other she had shot.

Fyrra first healed the half-elf before her subsequent spell blinded the new salamander completely. The spell deprived it of half its senses and half of its ability to react to danger. Still, the dagger jab that Rithaleya had performed went wide and missed the creature entirely. The second dagger jab scraped along its hard scales and did no damage to it whatsoever, despite the direct hit. As Merrake switched her weapons, the first salamander died of bloodloss. The half-drokagr warrior's first shot with her shortbow went over the Salamander's head, it had heard the shot coming, and ducked. The second hit it right in the eye, and passed through the entire skull, and out the other side, leaving grisly and fatal wounds. Both Salamanders that died screamed their dying breaths, but neither managed to gather any attention from nearby salamanders.

The fight had been too short for Rithaleya to get winded, but it had still frayed her nerves. She tested two more strikes of her dagger on the corpse, just to test its futility, before she put it away, dusted off her bow, and retrieved the farm tool--which she also tested on the corpse, once, before she set about butchering it. At least there, it was easier to apply pressure. Afterward, she picked up some gloves out of the dirt and tried them on. "Good thing you were here... want gloves? I only have two hands, there's four.
"I shouldn't take on half of them, if we end up fighting more than two at once."

"I'm just glad we're all in good health after that."
Fyrra said as she looked around, checking on the other salamanders. When Rithaleya mentioned the gloves the Kalimbra first looked to her bodyguard. The gloves look a little sturdy. Perhaps they would make good grips for the warrior? Merrake was looking quizzically at the gloves, as if she was already considering those options.
"Merrake?"
"No, I like the feel of the weapon on my bare hands."
"I'll take them then, they are a little fashionable. Perhaps dyed they can even be pretty."
"Where to now? Continue on to the granary?"
Acquired Light Leather Gloves.

"The way is clear, and the other way... isn't. We'll check it out, first." Rithaleya went to look inside the grain silo, though since windows were even less of an option here, she went in holding her farm tool up defensively. It'd like be dark inside, if the roof hadn't caved in...

The Granary
They would find several things wrong with the granary when they'd enter. Part of the ceiling had collapsed revealing the interior. Much of the inside was covered in cobwebs from the multitude of tiny spiders that had taken up residence. The other thing they would find strange with the interior was that the pile of rubble from the ceiling was a trap door that would lead somewhere else. Strange for a granary indeed. The final thing that was off was the lack of any material inside. Not even rotted oats, or the remains of anything that could have been construed as an agricultural product. In fact, there were piles of bones here and there instead. Upon close inspection they'd prove to be humanoid for the most part, with the occasional skaldi bone in the mix.
