The Royal Justean Guard just strolled into Viktoria like it was theirs on the first of Junipos, 200ATD. Five hundred warriors with a small retinue of officials entered the city via the east gate. They overtook the guards that were on duty, killing them before they realized what was going on. Before long the Provincial Governor was dead, the Trade Commissioner, and the Defense Minister, and their households were all dead.
The City's Mayor was missing from her dilapidated home. Troops patrolled the streets looking for her in threes. The city was locked down to all traffic until they found her. Guinevere Lyethe. Some civilians were killed in home searches. Some business owners were put out temporarily by the same.
Three Royal Justean Guard soldiers entered The Dusty Drapes, a tavern and inn in Viktoria. They sat down at a table and looked around. Not a single drape in sight. They were aghast with the irony. One of them maintained a serious look on the tavern's people. The others were busy ordering lagers and waiting for their leader's command to move.
"So where de'ye think she is, Corp?"
"I don't think soldier. She's in this city somewhere. We'll find her."
"Anyway, I hear she's pretty. I'd like to see what she's like."
"You'll do no such thing, scrub. She's to be treated fairly. She's the only one of those officials that's an actual, honest to gods, noble. You touch her, you die."
"Alright, Danath. You don't have to be so mean. Shit."
Their drinks arrived, with another for Danath despite the fact that he didn't order one. They drank for a minute, and waited on their Corporal's queue.
268 killed in take over.

" Let me out!" " Lady Lyethe no!" " I can't watch this much longer!" " They'll kill you or worse!" " Tell that to those who are dead!" Tom really did have good intentions, keeping his Lady locked up at first. Guinevere had gladly went with it for the first few hours. Rationality had set in on her, and the reports of death. The half-elkagr could pretend not to care, but it twisted at her stomach. Things like this could only come to hurt those she had sworn to be a steward over. What was one, rich stuck up life meant to a city anyway? He had done what he could to assuage her longer, and force into staying behind the doors of her room. It was bit amazing already that she had not been found, she had been living in the drapless Dusty Drapes for over a month...Though had stayed there still less than a fortnight all together. With a heave the door was open, and the Lady Guinevere had started down the stairs. Her eye make up just looking slightly off, as a last streak had not been corrected from earlier emoting. Eyes just slightly more sunken if a person had known the Lady Mayor for quite sometime, these had not been good nights. Hair up in a high bun, and her dress looking as freshly pressed as ever. It was purple, with little golden designs. The sleeves long, and ending in a triangle over her hand attached by a string around her middle finger. The top of the dress was tight and corseted, the neckline cut in a square shape. Guinevere's skirt was just slightly flowing, with a slit reaching just above her knee. Now the Lady realized she had walked into the main bar area of the Inn without much of a plan. Surrendering was rather a dull ordeal. After all the stress of deciding to do nothing about the Royal Justean Guard in the end, fear wisely or unwisely kept her from acting in either direction to pull the vote. She could not decide to let her people die. Guinevere still felt quite too inexperienced for this. " Do I owe all your men a drink?"

"Who da fuck are you lady?"
"Shut up. You can pay for anything you want lady."
"'Ey, Danath. She's got pointy ears."
The three of them stood up from the table and made their way to surround her. Danath stood in front of her. He looked her up and down.
"Do you know who we are, miss?"
Did she know she just walked up to her executioners and asked to buy them a drink? Did she know that the Royal Justean Guard hated the Elf and their filthy half bloods? What she didn't know could kill her. No one in the bar moved. No one else breathed. They all stared and watched what was about to unfold. Would someone intervene? Most likely not. The crowd was waiting to see some blood.
Meanwhile out in the streets of the city some resistance was mounting. But the Royal Justean Guard's ritgrs were too much for them in such a small number. The resistance group was stamped out, as were their extended acquaintances and families. Several buildings were burned to the ground with people still inside them.
Total killed in take over: 1101.

So they don't know who they are capturing? Smart.Guinevere grinned, probably a little too devilishly as she thought of her inevitable death. It was exhilarating, but all in the wrong ways. " Most half-elkagr do have pointy ears, good observation." Guinevere might as well go out with some of the sass that almost permanently invaded her mind. Never a better time to say anything than one was to die. Or she was pretty sure she was going to die. Especially now, she'd just be killed walking out into the streets. Because they didn't know who they were looking for. The one red-headed mayor wasn't enough of a description. They had said something earlier of not harming her, so that was half the reason she came out. Well, not really that just added a small percent to it. " Soldiers of the Royal Justean Guard, invading my city without attempting to reason with us first." Her tone turning slightly more cross. Though she grinned, the half-breed was not at all happy with this. Guinevere was again losing the ability to be rationale about this and not cry. " Now, I am turning myself in so that this killing of my people can end. I am perfectly fine with going peacefully. We are all citizens of Cruinthe, and should treat each other as such." Not knowing how far patriotism would affect the men. It was worth trying, they could just easily kill her too. The Lady Mayor just wanted the death to end.

"Your city?"
"Her city?"
"You're Lady Mayor Lyethe?"
"Go tell the commander. We've got her."
"Aye, sir."
One of the boys went running out of the tavern. He told everyone he could that they had captured her finally. The struggling started to stop. The people knew they had lost. Their city was in the hands of the RJG now, completely. There was nothing they could do about it now that the mayor had surrendered. Hope was dying everywhere.
Danath looked the woman up and down again and gestured at the table he had been occupying.
"Please, sit. The commander will be by in a bit to discuss your situation with you. Until then, you don't leave our sight unfortunately."
The barmaid came by and asked if they needed anything. Danath shooed her away.
Danath was a hard looking man without his helmet on. His head was shaved and he had a well groomed full beard. Blue eyes, and some teeth that look like they've been biting too much metal, testing whatever coin was handed to him.
"Bet you wanna know why we haven't gut you yet."

Guinevere did nothing but nod as the men came to realize who she was. She would love to go out swearing, if she could choose her death. To at the last moment lose the demure, prim, and proper facade that was shown to everyone. If she started mouthing off now, her tongue may be cut from her mouth and that would end any dreams of going out more colorfully. At least amusing thoughts could keep the calm going a but longer. " Understandable." Guinevere slid into the chair, crossing her legs and her back straight. Her hands folded into her lap. The lady completely decided to ignore how Danath, or any of the RJG soldiers looked. Staring potential monsters in the face didn't seem wise. The half-breed was hardly holding it together as it was. She trembled pretty violently, thought disgused it in a pose that was tightly together. She was too vulnerable. Having a better grasp on magic would have been nice about now. Perhaps mistakes to prevent in the next life. " I am somewhat curious, if it remains that way." Daring to look in his direction briefly. Perhaps they want my riches first, perhaps to make me an example, to make me a toy for the soldiers... Hopefully something not dull. Tom crept slowly down the stairs, glad to see that his lady still had a head. She wasn't the worst person to be around. Thinking it better than making a scene, he quietly edged along a wall into the eyesight of his lady. Folding his arms obediently.

"Should, so long as you don't do anything particularly stupid. I'll let the commander clear up the rest."
Danath stayed standing, his hand rested on the hilt of his sword as he continued to keep an eye on the woman. The other soldier did nothing but survey the room every few moments. Between sips from his drink that is. After a good ten minutes the person that was presumably the commander appeared followed by six more soldiers. The soldiers came through and started clearing people out.
"Alright, everyone out. Yeah you too lady. Go on, get. Before you get carved up like a holiday lizard. Move that ass. Come on."
"Move along. Go on move along. You want to get stuck? Move it. Move it!"
Eventually a soldier came to Tom. A run of the mill grunt tried to bully the man out of the tavern like all the others. He was a no-faced goon. Clad in helmet and armor, the only thing visible that was distinctive about him was a scratch on his armor on the shoulder. That was it. He was shiny, like he was new. Tom looked like a hard man compared to him. To keep himself in the power he pulled his shortsword free of its sheathe.
"Alright buck-o. Get out of here."
Meanwhile. The commander sat across from the mayor. He also appeared to be a no-faced goon with his helmet and visor obscuring his face almost completely. Green little eyes in his helmet were the only thing visible until he jerked the visor up revealing his uncommonly handsome face.
"You were quite the trouble to find. The liberation forces were troubled by quite a few of the false king's supporters out there in the city. One would think that you support him."

Tom gave the man asking him to move out a look. He was heavily considering fighting with the man to maintain his position, but just before the handsome commander would have sat down. Guinevere intervened. Even with the man's sword pointed at him, and unarmed himself Tom hardly considered it in his want to remain. " Please, Tom, I'll be fine." " Bunch of cowards cornering a Lady!" Tom was too much heart, and not quite enough brain. " Tom!" Her voice hit a note higher and shriller than usual, and like a mutt with his tail between his legs...Tom finally left the building. As the man sat, she felt compelled to offer an apology. The guard still needed to learn when his tongue needed to be held, or perhaps that was the reason why she liked his company so much. It was a welcomed change of pace. Different. Guinevere's throat caught itself, she wasn't quite expecting the man to look like that. Well, that was different too. Though sadly not her type, the man was not horrible to look at. At least it is a pretty little monster." Oh?" Held up at the same Inn I have resided at for over a months time now? So difficult to find. That, or her people had just not decided to give her up that easily. She liked that thought much better, it was much much much more positive. Her face drew a questioning glance, as he spoke against the King Julgrava. She didn't fancy herself any sort of revolutionist, or strong supporter for that mark either. It was a wicked idea to say such things, blushing in the audacity of the statement. It grew as he spoke of his 'liberation' forces. What was this? Trying to paint her a pretty picture of the new captors of her city? Well, likely hers no longer. " Some heavy handed ruler, about a week away by the fastest horse is hardly someone I consider to factor." Drawing out her words, as she was unsure of what to say. She wasn't going to say what he wanted to hear, Guin doubted the man would believe her. " The influence of those that support my station, are the ones that I truly care to support." That was enough reasoning for her, and vague enough to suit. Though it was really a revealing statement, she had been honest. " What do your liberationists want with your new city?"

The commander smiled. The woman was smart. He was trying to downplay the violence that occurred and paint the whole incident in a color that wasn't red. He wasn't going to take her bait about how Julgrava was a tyrant. The sorcerer-king was a tyrant all-right. Taxing his people to death while allowing them to just starve and fend for themselves. Villages everywhere were falling apart. And not just in Cruinthe. In Selbria, Cahalia, Fringoth, and Hek'Cruica too. It was too hard to make a living.
"Maybe the only good thing that ever came of his rule was the opportunity it presents us. Either way, your question is a simple one to answer. Viktoria lies in a strategic location. We already have control over it's trade routes to the southern kingdoms, and with command of the city we'll be able to keep Julgrava from receiving any reinforcements from Hek'Cruica or Cahalia. A similar fate awaits Delta City. Troops are already on their way."
The commander took a moment to pause.
"See, we're not out to kill the half breed, or the elkagr like some people claim we are. They just happen to be the ones that are more likely to be supporting the current status quo. Which is not something that Princess Superior Avaline ver Justea can oblige. As true heir to the throne of humanity, she can not just allow some Elkagr Sorcerer-Puppet to sit on the throne while her people are destroyed. If some people must die for that to be accomplished then so be it. Humanity, and Elkagr kind could use some thinning out in Cruinthe."
One of the soldiers brought over some drinks for the two of them.
"Now, Lady Mayor. We'll dictate the terms of your surrender of the city to us. You come from a noble line, an actual line of true noble Cruinthians. As opposed to your colleagues who were Julgrava's appointed thugs. Your support is going to put the city into line and allow us to turn its resources into a productive direction."

Delta City too? Well, this group had quite the plan in mind. They weren't stupid, to say the least. Guinevere had half the mind to warn Delta City, but didn't care for their particular governor enough to try. That would be a particularly foolish move, they would likely watch her for any sort of attempt. Besides, Guinevere wasn't exactly the type loyal to the Tyrant. It was his treatment of the people that had caused a stain of disdain for the man. Even without yet meeting him. " Hopefully you, or your soldiers can see that race does not always depict loyalty." His statements about the general support of all those with Elkagr blood was likely supposed to assuage her from thinking her city was free from a culling, but it rang as a warning. Further than just her own mixed race, which she had suffered far less than those of her mixed blood, it was the general number of half-breeds that walked in the city. Guinevere knew many, employed many, and over saw many. The handsome face before her was pleasant enough, but the way the his men had looked at her had her worried. " I know your handsome face is here to just assure me that everything is fine, and that Viktoria can go on living in a happy bubble. But the duality of your statement regarding my blood worries me- for the sake of those I govern, and care about." All Guinevere could see was Cassius in this moment, and worry about his intentions. Guinevere liked specifics, and this man was not giving her enough of any of them. " What part am I to play in this?" Asking as she eyed the drinks. Was it safe to take from them? She didn't want to become intoxicated by any means.

"Oh a compliment. Much appreciated, Lady Mayor."
The commander said. He mulled it over in his head and decided that this Lyethe was very much a power player in the realm of politics. It would be interesting having her on the Royal Justean Guard's leash. The deal was simple. She would be allowed to live, as would her people, so long as she let the Royal Justean Guard do what they wanted. Of course, she probably wouldn't like what they were going to do, but if she wanted to keep her head on her shoulders she'd be quiet about it and not do anything... rash.
"You are to play no part in this other than what we tell you to do. That's the deal. You sit on your hands. You go to your home and you do nothing. You raise no banners against us. You do not speak out against us. Basically you give us free reign to do what we want."
The commander smiled at her then.
"The alternative is we make you watch as we systematically execute all of your citizens with elkagr blood, any dissidents or rebels, as well as every girl-child in the city. When we're done with the executions we'll take your head from your shoulders and put it on the walls as a reminder to the rest of Cruinthe. Then we'll just go about our business like we would have in the first place."
He chuckled. He imagined he had put her in quite the bind.
"Really. What we're about isn't all so bad as to risk all of that ugliness. We just want to control the trade routes that your city has influence over. Shore up our forces, improve the city's fortifications and security, and use it as a staging ground for some of our troops. The impact on the lives of your people would be minimal. In exchange for the security we'll provide we get a share in your crop yield to feed our troops, and some of the mineral resources that your province can provide. What you'll do while all this is happening is accept the position of Provincial Governor, publicly pledge your support, and provide some moderate financing. It's the basics of supplying an army. We need food, resources for arms and armor, and space to train and live so we can free this country from tyranny and put the true heir to the Justean Throne on it."

" Seems a good deal but du-" Never so quickly had her opinion of a person changed. Usually it came quickly to her, how to think of a person. Perhaps it was the pretty face throwing her for loop. Guinevere had gleaned that the man had a very dual nature to him, just by the standards laid out by his words. A threat so straight forward wasn't expected, Guin was accustomed to a veiled threat. Nothing quite that extreme, or that brutal from the man. So this group was not going for the angle to be loved? Executing those of Elkagr blood would go without too much fuss, but spilling the blood of every female child would make all balk. Two 'nevers' happened in this short moment. Never had Guinevere so much wanted to kill a man. I will end you. Thoughts, though not words, were not thought lightly. This she was sure of. This man would die. Not today, a week, or a year from now. When her people were safe, or free from harm from her consequences, it would happen. " Ahh," Guinevere forced a subtle gulp of her throat, " Your offer is more than reasonable." Letting herself play the damsel wasn't a trick she was too proud to try. The half-blood even shuffled in her seat a little, gripping her dress tightly enough to let it visibly scrunch beneath her grip. " I would just inquire to changing of laws, and trivial things like taxes. While functioning as a 'liberated' city, I fear the repercussion from the current 'Tyrant' sitting on your throne. I understand to keep the city functioning in trade, you will keep Viktoria protected, but having a relationship with other cities is vital to Viktoria surviving as well. How in ts new position am I to keep the city stocked? I'll need education for my people to fulfill the jobs no longer provided by the current King, and what about any new or young mages born into my city?"

The commander smiled for a second and looked at her with an eyebrow raised. "I thought you hardly consider him a factor. Whatever the repercussions let them come, we'll crush them."He smiled and sipped his drink. "All of that we can decide at a later time. You know your city and province best. We don't want to break it. It would be useless to us if the people that were to support us started to starve. Do we have an accord?"The commander stood up and struck his arm out for her to shake on. Some high ranking looking Ritgrs started to enter. About five of them. They were colorful and various in their arms and armor. They must have been his main squad. His elite troops. The logic followed of course. They stood out, ergo if they were still alive they had to be strong. "I'm Commander Valenstride, these are five of the Ten Companions. One of them will be shadowing you until we can trust you." Commander Valenstride

" We have an accord." Striking out her own hand to shake his, though she remained seated. Not yet feeling comfortable enough in her emotions to stand. It was a lot to take in, and her mind raced behind a somewhat pleased seeming face. Much worse could of happened. Especially if she had reacted rashly. Just hopefully those inhabiting the city understood, what worse things could have befallen them. Her eyes easily drew to the rainbow of soldiers that filed into the room. It was strange for soldiers to be so decorated in fanciful colors. They could probably be seen from miles away. They stuck out, but the gist that they were well trained and provisioned didn't escape her. Guinevere just found it prudent to mock their dress in her mind. " Oh?" Urging the man on further to expound upon his plans. Which one of these poor souls would have to play babysitter to her?

"Good to hear that. Let me introduce you to five of the Ten Companions. Adrian LaShar, a warrior of much renown. Baast, A summoner. I hope mages don't scare you. Drasorath, a shadow assassin from the Darthaks. Ragkar Dhumaiin, the Dragoon that conquered a Drakagr. Rubina Iceblood, Commander of the Frozen Bolts. And Ryder Vel Kalin, the Soundless Slayer."Each of the five stepped forward when named. "Lady Lyeth. It would do me a great honor to be the first to serve in this capacity."Adrian LaShar. The first and foremost of the five, and their defacto leader spoke up first. He was clad in armor that had seen better days. He was a hard fighter, clearly, forgoing shield for a quicker approach. And his hair was purest white coming out of the back of his helmet. A direct man, and a heartfelt chivalrous Ritgr, Adrian was honorable and just. He would treat the lady with respect. Five of The Ten Companions-Rules of Usage: -Free usage up until the point of combat. (Do follow their personality, usually given through narrative). -Upon combat or an attempt to escape the active companion reverts to the Administrator. -The Companions are Archon-Class NPCs, and will only engage foes if attacked first, have the skills First Defense, and The Imperative (see below), and will pursue to destroy. *First Defense* -Negates the first attack on their person or the person they are protecting (or first round of attacks) *The Imperative* -The Companion, while protecting another, always acts first.
