"No sir, not with a war on. Anything else I can get you?"
Kable said looking the drokagr lord in the eye. Naka began loading her cart with the goods the young noble purchased. Mable didn't have a whole lot of patience for people trying to screw him. That's how he viewed an intermittent shopper asking for a trade deal in a time of war where iron and leather will soon be sold at high premiums.
Kable is a difficult check: -30 Broker does not apply. Roll failed
Transaction complete: 710 gold.

Steeling herself with a long drink of unknown provenance from a canteen, Rithaleya sidles up to Doran Martelli's stall at the caravan, eyes some of his wares furtively, and says, "So... I've got a perfectly good bow, right here, but I've heard you have some that are a bit better for monster hunting, and all that. How about a trade? I'll even give you a bit of gold. It's almost like I'm buying something... spending money to make money, and all that."
She also has her eye on the swords on display, but can't shake the feeling that she's likely a danger to herself and others with any sword that's not made out of wood. The strain of resisting the impulse would surely make her sweat, if the weather wasn't making sure that everyone did all the sweating they needed, already.
She picks up a couple dragonfruit rations and minor healing potions during her visit to make sure that she has these in stock for the next time she goes exploring, seeing as foraging rather than participating in the local economy is more of an invading army thing, and doing it without an army is banditry, and if she was going to become a bandit she'd have to spend much more money on style and fashion.

Rithaleya wasn't happy about giving up her old bow, especially for a pittance, but she figured she'd be even less happy to see an arrow bounce off a monster's hide. Besides, it's not like she ever paid for it... "Fine, two gold it is."
She didn't feel like letting go that easily when she came back the next day, though. Despite having brought back so much gold it was almost absurd, and all the loot she could possibly carry (without leaving anything behind, at least), Rithaleya was still a miser. As she approached Doran's stall again, she pulled out the longbow she'd bought earlier, and waved at him. "Do you do refunds? I bought this bow yesterday and... it doesn't shoot lightning, but I found one that does."
Charisma+Negotiation: 15 dL2LTl6y
She had more to do that just haggle for the gold she'd more-or-less earned back, though. Doran also sold arrows and quivers, and Rithaleya, as it happened, had found a new quiver, too, which was light but carried many more arrows. "I'd like a hundred arrows. How about I pay for 75 and trade you this quiver for the rest?"

Next, stopped by Baila's armour shop to get an expert's opinion on the new salamander scale armour she'd found. While trying it on, she offered up the hardened leather greaves she'd found during her adventure. "These seem to go well with the armour you have on sale. Maybe you could make it a set for the next customer?" This time, she didn't try to get gold for it, all she really wanted was help with the armour... and maybe a business opportunity. "I've got a load of the scales that this armour is made of, and I'll be pawning them off at the caravan, soon. There's got to be a way to make those into more armour like this." She added conspiratorially, "I've got the gold if you need help making it happen."
Charisma+Relationships-5: 10
She had two more stop to make at the caravan. First, to sell off the lot of the salamander teeth and scales--arguing about the price, of course, since she had ideas that would raise the price soon enough! Still, she didn't have much choice, she wasn't the best merchant in town...

The last thing to do before leaving was to buy a large bundle of reeds from Cera Kingsworth. The profit margin was minimal, but it was the only trade good that was in demand in Morith, so far as she was aware, and carrying reeds from here to there over hundreds of miles at least felt like doing something of substance while still turning a profit. Though, she still tried to get a discount for buying 100 units, and by promising she would advertise her supplier there.

After all that, she was ready to spend all her earnings on a drink at the tavern, or five, before heading out...·····

Doran -- "I do not, indeed, do Refunds, go to the pawnbroker if you want to sell the long bow. I'd be interested in your lightning bow though. A hundred arrows I have for you and that's a deal. The price for seventy five is fifteen ritz, and I'll take that quiver you offered as well."
Baila -- "A nice gift indeed. Perhaps the next traveler that enjoys adventure will use the boots. I know of a man that might be able to use the scales for what you intend. I don't have much by way of armor smithing skill, but Duke Mardok is quite the smith from what I understand. Our caravan makes its way up to his duchy often. In fact we occasionally buy manufactured goods like this from him. He might be able to copy it for mass production. He'd be the business partner you'd need to get involved with, we're just a distributor."
Dumail -- "I'll give you six for the longbow. Six point four for each tooth, and point two for each scale. No more no less."
Hard Leather Greaves Received: Free Longbow pawned: 6 Value of Salamander Teeth: 16.00 Each @ 40% (Pawnbroker & bad rolls) 6.4 each.*19 = 121.6 Value of Lizard Scales: .5 Each @ 40% (Pawnbroker & bad rolls) .2 each.*22 = 4.4 20 (4 stacks of wooden arrows) -5 (small quiver returned) 100 units of reeds: 7 Balance: 110 gold owed to Rithaleya.

The pawnbroker was a relatively new addition to Kable's services but Tyr found himself in need of it today. With the creation of his new armor the old pieces were in need of a good home. Sure he could sell them in town, but very few people actually came to buy the stuff he made. A pity, most people seemed to be woefully under-equipped compared to what he could make for them. You'd think he'd be swamped with work. Meeting this new man was a welcome break though, Tyr was always happy to make a new friend.
"Good afternoon sir, I don't believe we've met yet. I am the Duke Mardok, and I hear tell you're in the market for..well, just about anything." Tyr lifted a shoulder as he spoke, shifting the bundle held over it. Metal clanked from within the cloth, a full set of equipment sat in it. "I believe I have some things that may interest you." He laid them out with care and explained what materials went into each one that the broker might make a more accurate assessment of their value.
Negotiating a good deal with the pawnbroker. Difficult (-30) + Rel3/Neg0 (15) + Cha (130) + FoP (10) = Threshold 125. FmnjMvKx Selling: Superior War Helm: 104 DR, 2 Cold Resist (30 Str, 14 Agi, 14 K, 2 Cha) Face/Neck/Head/Heavy(3 steel, 2 iron, 4 leather, 2 cotton) Superior War Mail: DR 147; (Str 30, 17 A, 15 K) Heavy/Chest/Back/Abdomen/Sides/Shoulders/Upper Arms (1 hydrillium, 1 steel, 1 iron, 1 leather) Grand War Boots: 89 DR, 2 Cold Resist (30 Str, 14 Agi, 14 K, 2 Cha) Feet/Lower Legs/Thighs/Heavy (3 steel, 2 iron, 4 leather, 2 cotton) Excellent War Gloves: 96 DR, 2 Cold Resist (30 Str, 14 Agi, 14 K, 2 Cha) Hands/Forearms/Heavy (3 steel, 2 iron, 4 leather, 2 cotton) Excellent War Belt: DR 146, 22 Slots. After coming to terms with the man Tyr would chat idly for a little while before heading off to attend to other business within the caravan. Busy man, lots to do and all. His next visit was to Cera, as always placing a rather large order for crafting supplies. In this case cotton as he'd managed to burn through everything he had. A second retrieval order was left as well, with another hefty tip added on because of the distance he'd be asking them to go just for him.
Ordering 100 cotton from Cera, or as much as she has if not that much. (100 Ritz) Retrieval order from the Delta Seaside Market: 2 Coral (3250 Ritz) 5 Emerald (1500 Ritz) 100 Ritz retrieval fee 10 Ritz delivery fee 800 Ritz tip Sub-total: 5760 Ritz
Next was a visit to Kable himself. It was always good to visit the boss, and with their past business dealings now seemed like a good time to bring up some plans for the future.
"Kable, my friend, I come with good tidings and, as always, good business!" Recently it seemed to be coming to the caravan was only partly about restocking goods. Establishing a good working relationship with Kable and his employees was the name of the game most of the time. "This though, will be a venture unlike one you have undertaken before. I want you..." He let the suspense build slightly, trying to look suitably mysterious. "To cater my party." It was a complete understatement, but hopefully the joke would make Kable laugh.
He went on to explain that he was going to throw a tournament and festival, as he had eluded to in the past, and that he would like the caravan present and the food his land could not. It would give Kable's employees a chance to enjoy themselves, would make the caravan present for a rather large gathering of people, and would probably generate a fair amount of business. It would also, and this was the real kicker, have him in town during a meeting of the Council of Dukes. Tyr had promise to raise the issue of the Karligar border act there, and having Kable on hand to speak if necessary would be wonderful. The Duke did not yet know the law would soon be repealed, but this was his chance to at least put words into actions.
"What say you, will you help me throw a festival no one will soon forget?"
Rolling to negotiate Kable's presence at the festival. Foodstuffs to be provided at a discounted rate, in exchange for accommodations for the entire caravan during the festival. Difficult (-30) + Cha (130) + FoP + Rel3/Neg0 (15) = Threshold 115.
(This is in the past, hence no hacklung roll) ·

"Duke Mardok. I see. You're supposed to be the big wig around here aren't you? Well then. What have you got? Oh... high quality. I can sell these for a good price even at a discount for you. I'll give you eighty percent of what I'll be able to sell it for."
Superior War Helm: 104 x 5 = 520 x.8 = 416 Superior War Mail: 147 x 5 = 735 x.8 = 588 Grand War Boots: 89 x 5 = 445 x.8 = 356 Excellent War Gloves: 96 x 5 = 480 x.8 = 384 Excellent War Belt: 146 x 5 = 730 x.8 = 584 Grand War Claw: 127 x 5 = 635 x.8 = 508 Total: 2,836
After the Duke was paid, he moved on eventually to Kable himself.
"I hear you're sequestering some of my people to play fetch for you. Gemstones? Interesting party you're having then. I'll cater it. The deal you'll get because I like your business so much is eighty percent of the price. Up front of course. Can't shell out and not get paid. Especially with a war on. Some of my other business partners might not like the special treatment, you see. Eight thousand if you're doing what I think you're doing. You want entertainment too? Or are you providing that yourself?"

Entertainment? He didn't really have any of that did he? The tournament itself would provide some, but it wouldn't be a constant thing throughout the festival. If Kable had a way of providing something that would be a deal worth capitalizing on. Tyr pulled out a bank cheque and started writing, absentmindedly hauling up the chest his pawnbroker payment came in.
"Additional entertainment would be wonderful. Take whatever payment you require from the chest, if that won't cover it let me know and I'll write a second cheque." When the eight thousand ritz cheque was complete Tyr would hold it out in one hand, his other extended for a shake. "Eight thousand ritz to cater the tournament, and payment as necessary for extra entertainment. Deal?" He would shake on it to seal it in the oldest of ways, then hand over the cheque to pay for the catering service.

"Deal. Always a pleasure Duke Mardok."
Kable would of course take the orders down and begin making arrangements for the festival to be well catered. He operated as if he had a blank cheque to provide for the party with, more or less. Kable was a frugal bastard though, and he'd negotiate supply deals to benefit his primary client in this matter the most. Good price and good quality. Nothing less was acceptable.

On his way through towards Innorsford Roald stopped off once again at Kable's caravan, the place he'd probably been to most outside of his own home. Straight away he was drawn to the iron ingots stacked up, his own stash having been depleted by his own stupidity, he'd never admit it but in terms of making armour he was definitely rusty, and that was something he'd have to remedy in Innorsford with the materials he'd gathered. Innorsford was now his destination as he'd heard that it was something of a centre to the Alliance, and he was interested to see the changes they'd implemented now they were away from the sorceror king.
That wasn't to say he didn't fear being recognised, but most of those that could recognise him were likely to have passed or at least retired, and in the heart of the Alliance controlled lands he was even less likely to be seen, still he was nervous but fairly sure he'd be ok. Sure enough to go into Innorsford, but first there was the matter of buying some iron. Roald selected six ingots from those shown, examining each in turn before selecting the best and dropping the ritz onto the counter before he continued on to Innorsford.
