The sorceress continued down the street, leading Rithaleya towards the warehouse district and away from the markets. The lantern was bright, and perhaps to some it was so bright that it'd leave every other light source look snuffed by comparison. They were actually snuffed by the lanterns presence. It brought bad luck.
For Allyria, that had only ever been expressed in a comical fashion. A tree branch here, a trip there, a sandwich in her lap instead of in her hands. It had its quirks but it wasn't dangerous. Not for her.
"You can afford it. Depending on what you want. I've lived here a few months. It may seem a little posh but it won't be the two ladies down the street at that fancy hat shop killing each other tomorrow. I'm talking about the war. It's coming here. It's the next step after what happened in Sorath."

Rithaleya considered asking what happened in Sorath, but she'd heard so little about the place (and had so little idea where it was, or what it was worth) that it didn't seem likely to interest her. "Alright... What can you do? I found some jewelry, not that I need it for anything. I figured some enchantments could make it worth wearing, instead of just selling. And it's the same story for the sword and axe that I have, I haven't used either once. I figured you could tell me about them, after I made it here.
"The bow I found shoots lightning, I found that out by mistake. Maybe you could tell me more about that, also. The quiver I found with it seems magical, too. It's more lightweight than it should be, for one thing." Rithaleya wasn't sure what 'the war was coming here' meant, but she didn't ask. She was more interested in hearing about magic, at the moment.

"Sounds like you have quite a few objects that need identifying, and a few that need perking up. There are a lot of things I can do with enchantments. Did you have any ideas yourself?"
Allyria continued down the cobblestone streets of the city without interruption. Her pace was fast. She did not want to be caught in the open by any enemy elements that were already in the city. That would make things awkward for herself and her customer. Speaking of whom, Allyria was intrigued as to how she managed to acquire these items she spoke of. It begged a story to be told, and they had plenty of time until they arrived at Allyria's warehouse. At least a few more blocks. Curiosity was Allyria's downfall. She would poke her nose into any interesting story, ruin, or landscape just to know more. It was a curse.
"Tell me about how you came to acquire these things. I'd love to hear about this."

"Maybe a... light? For the amulet, and a barrier for the ring. Most enchantments I know about are destructive, and those seem difficult to wear." Rithaleya didn't know much about minor magics, and those were the only kind she could afford, or likely, carry around with her. The fast pace didn't seem to bother her.
"I just found them. Most of them just appeared when a ghost vanished, apparently ghosts can have deep pockets." The details of what happened hadn't been very clear to Rith, even at the time. "Then Fyrra's bodyguard aimed at my head and I gave her the dagger I picked up. They let me keep the rest."

"What color light? Can do any color you want. The barrier won't be hard. To be honest it sounds like like a misunderstanding and that you got a good deal out of it. A bow that shoots lightning, two enchanted melee weapons, an enchanted quiver. Some jewelry. Not bad at all."
That was the extent of Allyrias comments on the matter of the incident. So far there hadn't been any thieves or bandits in the street. Nor any other more official undesirables. She was quite happy with the conversation though. And outright cheerful about the opportunity to inspect more enchantments.
"Only a few more blocks."

"...White? Something to see by." Rithaleya wasn't aware of any reason to favour one colour of light over another. "Windfalls are always good deals," was the extent of her thoughts on the fairness of her finds. "All we did was fight a few lizards. And that was... mostly easy. I needed their help a couple of times to light up dark rooms and keep those things off me, so it sounds like that's all I need. (I'm guessing enchantments to open locks and decipher strange texts would be a little more difficult to put into jewelry.)"

"White then. Here's the warehouse."
She opened the door to the warehouse and stepped inside. The forge's fire was low. The braziers were unlit. Allyria went over to the bellows and pulled the lever a few times, breathing life into the furnace and heating up the forge. She went over to the work table then and stood there, laying the reeds on the floor and the scythe against the table.
"Now let's see what you've brought me."
The warehouse was a very large building with stacks and stacks of materials. There was was a laboratory in one corner, the forge, furnace and chimney in another. There was the work table, and another table and chairs off to the side for guests. There was also also a desk either papers on it, all written in drokagr.
Switching status to a home thread. We're off the street now.

Rithaleya set down her axe, sword, ring, and amulet on the work table, taking off her gloves to do so, though they weren't anything special. Then, she took her bow and quiver off her back, and set those down beside the other weapons. She hesitated about showing Allyria the diamond. "That should be all, for now."
She was familiar with forges, but not so much with any magical workshops. How it was done was likely to be a surprise.

"I see. I'll detect the effects of these items first. Then I'll impart the enchantments you asked for on the jewelry."
Allyria looked over the items and chose the emerald quiver first. It was the one that was likely to give the most trouble in identifying the properties. The gemstone in it was large enough to be a carrier for a magical spell. The difficulty laid in whether or not that spell was the natural effect or an effect imparted on it after the fact by a skilled sorcerer and artificer. She examined the gemstone with her powers and took a few notes down in a journal.
Artificing M.: 20, Thau M.: 20, Jeweler (Unlearned), Knowledge: 60. Difficulty: normal. Threshold: 100 GWHESI3C
Discovered Natural Effect of Emeralds: Heals for 25 HP per turn.
Before speaking she double checked her notes. Once she was certain everything was in order she told Rithaleya what she had learned.
"The quiver carries an emerald with its natural property of healing. Overtime the emerald's magic will make you whole again, so long as you are still alive. Don't be overconfident, if you receive trauma sufficient to end you, the emerald won't save you."
After that she moved on to the bow. It was next closest to the quiver. She picked it up, tested the string, looked over the arches, checked the grip. It seemed to be inlaid with some metal that could hold an enchantment. It wasn't an overly strong enchantment either from what she could tell by just holding it. The sorceress opted to be thorough, however, and poked around the bow with her powers, looking for anything beyond its ability to shoot arrows imbued with lightning.
Artificing M: 20, Thau M: 20, Knowledge: 60, Simple: 130
No other properties discovered.
The countess put the bow down and wrote down some notes about the bow before relaying the information to the client.
"Nothing out of the ordinary other than the fact that it shoots lightning, as you put it. How did you say you were going to pay again?"
Allyria asked before stepping any further. Two freebies was enough before discussing compensation for her efforts. Sure, it was actually effortless for Allyria to search for the properties on the objects themselves, and she was taking notes as a benefit. But she would do that anyway with any object she came across. Yet she did not feel the need to go any farther without the discussion. The melee weapons could be more dangerous, and actually imparting enchantments onto an object was energy consuming. ·

Rithaleya was confused by the assessment. She'd expected the quiver's magic to help the arrows somehow, not the wearer. Not that she could complain about it.
"With... gold, I assume. The only other suggestion I've been given is hunting wolves, and there don't seem to be many of those in this city. I'm not paying to be told nothing, though... What's it worth?" That was the main thing she wanted to know about the items, and the bow in particular, if there weren't any more secrets to discover. "I spent half my gold on the way here, but if the other half isn't far more than enough, let's just stop here. I don't need magic that costs more than a house. Unless I can afford it, all of a sudden."

"Gold is fine. The emerald quiver is worth at least three hundred gold, probably a little more because the quiver itself is of good construction. The bow probably about a hundred by itself. It is twenty five ritz for each identification. The enchantments you asked for are simple, they'll be fifty ritz each. If you can stomach two hundred ritz, then I'll continue."
Allyria said standing over the table. She had yet to enchant anything, and she had yet to do any reading on the two melee weapons before her. She wasn't going to go farther without payment either. It seemed the woman was more interested in how much the items were worth rather than what they could do. Which was interesting to her. Most adventurers would relish the chance to hold magical items in their hands. They wouldn't consider pawning them, such objects could save their lives. Perhaps it took all types to make the world turn, or Allyria was entirely wrong about this Rithaleya.
"I wouldn't pawn any of it if I were you."

Rithaleya grumbled about the cost, even though she could afford it. She thought it was outrageous, even though she also thought it was fair and sensible, because the two overlapped all the time when dealing with any competent trader, and she'd seen plenty of those. "Fine. Fifty ritz for a light..." She shook her head. "It better not burn out on me. Though I suppose I should be more worried about that with the barrier.
"If I hadn't gotten this money from Fyrra in the first place I'd be wary of having her vouch for you... I don't carry that much on me, I could leave the quiver here as collateral." She carefully removes the arrows to stow them in her pack without damaging the fletching. Apparently, she's more worried about losing those than the quiver itself. "Then I'll bring the money back and pick it up. Unless you'd rather wait until I show it to you?"

"You're welcome to try to find an openly practicing mage in the business of enchanting things for lower prices. If you'd like to leave the quiver as collateral I won't stop you."
Allyria thought for a moment about the transaction that was taking place. She watched the girl pack up her arrows carefully. Allyria brought her hand up to the edge of her chin and played around with the fit of her mask. She considered this person's behaviors. Maybe she was trying to get out of the adventuring life.
"So let me get this straight because you're a bit of of a mystery. You want to know the value of the items, you also want two enchantments. You have to go get the money to pay me. You don't want to bring the quiver that may save your life along to your stash. I'm not sure if you're trying to pawn these enchanted items and get out of the adventuring life or if you're trying to get better equipped for it."

"I can already get out of it if I want, though I don't see what else I'm going to do." Once more, horrible visions of tending gardens, whittling, and pottery danced through Rithaleya's head. "But then, what am I risking my life for if I found all this on my third day? I don't need magical gear to fight monsters, or anything, it's just convenient. I wouldn't even consider keeping them if I had something else to spend my gold on."

"Hmmm. Sounds like you're in search of some kind of purpose to fill your life with. I could use some competent adventurers for my projects. I like to go searching in ruins for artifacts like these. I pay a fair wage and a cut of the haul. You're a half elf, right? You need to think about how long you'll live. If you'll live through the war that's coming. And take steps to make sure that you can live that long life comfortably."
Coming from someone who could technically live forever, that was some perspective. Allylria wasn't sure she could remember exactly what she was paying Jorkahn by way of wages, or if he was paying her for enchantments through service. She also couldn't remember what she had paid the Wylmonts before they disappeared. Whatever it had been was fair. And the gear she made for them was good too. Outfitting Outfitting someone that worked for her was normal. She believed Duke Mardok did that as well.
"All your choices though. Maybe that's the problem. Too many choices and no one telling you what to do."
