After Rith has surveyed the place, she says to the others, "I think I figured out why this farm got attacked! It wasn't a farm. Thieves, bandits, soldiers? It looks like somebody's hideout, anyway. At least they're long-gone. Maybe they grew crops here before, but there's no signs of it. Do you want to head down? I'm not leading the way, underground. That never ends well."

"Understandable. Merrake, if you would?"
"Certainly."
Merrake went over to the pile of rubble and stood in front of it for a few seconds, looking it over and working out the best way to clear it. She then sheathed her weapons and rolled up her sleeves. She'd try with all of her physical strength to lift the rubble and clear it in a timely fashion, not straining too hard whenever possible. The first attempt to clear the rubble was met with a failure that made the rubble a little worse. However, as soon as the warrior got herself situated things proceeded with efficiency from there on out. She had no issues beyond the first one. Sooner rather than later the trap door was cleared and she was opening it up, inspecting the shaft that would inevitably be below it. If what Rithaleya said was true, there should be a deep enough shaft for it to be difficult for an earth mage to sense a hidden base.
"So if this was a base of some kind then who do you think burned it down? Obviously no one has lived here for some time, so it must have been a war forgotten?"
Fyrra was less interested in going underground and more interested in what Rithaleya's theory was.

The Granary
The shaft was short. Perhaps a few meters. Inside there would be a series of interconnected rooms, abandoned obviously. There were piles of bones here and there, as well as furniture about. There were a few beds in one room. A forge in another, with several iron ingots ready for use once the dust and cobwebs were brushed free from them. On top of that there was an office with stacks and stacks of papers. None of them bound, all of them incredibly delicate to the touch. Time had not been kind to the papers, as even the harshest of moments would render them into dust.

"Could have been anybody. People who use secret hideouts tend not to be popular with torch-wielding mobs, for some reason." Rithaleya was being a bit coy, but never having been north of Cahalia before recently, she never had much of an interest in this region. She climbed inside and searched around.
The ingots seemed somewhat valuable, the papers just hard to deal with. One touch confirmed she couldn't pick them up, and would have to read them where they lay. "Odd place for a forge, isn't it? Or an office. Maybe this was just for a hermit who wanted privacy." She hadn't found anything she wanted to take, yet.

Fyrra began inspecting the desk, while Merrake was looking over the forge. It appeared that it would be functional if someone just knew how to stoke life back into it. The ingots were probably usable too, if Merrake knew how. Alas, she found herself shaking her head. A waste of good iron. Fyrra was busy examining the desk, but she was not going to let it go. Some of the writing on it had to be legible, even after all this time. She searched it thoroughly with her eyes, not yet willing to touch any of it lest it crumble into dust.
Merrake came back towards the threshold from the forge area.
"A waste of good iron. Perhaps this was just a private place for a person to pursue their passions. Shame it was all destroyed. I can't do anything with that forge. It's beyond me. Any luck here?"
"If I could make out some of this text, maybe. It's all messed up from age. Oh, here we go! Looks like High Cruic? I can't read High Cruic yet."

"Alright, let me have a crack at it..." Rithaleya (hadn't yet started tutoring or attending classes in Innorsford, but) had been instructed in High Cruic so she could find her way around in Cahalia, and it served just as well in Cruinthe. She peered over the documents, taking care not to breathe too hard. She thought it strange to find papers that startled as easily as rabbits, but she didn't usually spend much time around them.

Roll Results
The papers appeared to be about agriculture and best practices. The letters in high cruic were descriptive about agricultural products and how much of this or that was present. Most of it was nonsense to Rithaleya. Some of it was about how best to go about planting, caring for, and harvesting various types of wheat and vegetables. It would seem very dry and boring, and at the same time be very over Rithaleya's head.

"This doesn't say anything about a forge, it just goes on and on about crops. I don't get it, farmers don't write books about farming, do they? This place just keeps getting weirder.
"I don't think we have anything else to do down here. But before we check on the barn, we should figure out how to deal with five of those things at the same time... I'm going to need help to fight more than one of them at a time, maybe two if I'm lucky, but you're going to need help, too, won't you?"

"I have a spell that might be able to kill most of them if I can kill one of them immediately with a different spell. The poor beasts, they have done nothing wrong."
"Other than be in our way."
"Yes, true."
"Also, they might try to eat us."
"Also true."
"Let us head up then. Neither of us can read high Cruic, and it sounds like there's nothing in it anyway."
"Indeed."
A shame really, Fyrra thought the documents might provide some insight into the fate of this place. The only thing left to investiage was the barn. Merrake would ascend the ladder first, keeping an eye out for any salamanders that might be in the way. Fyrra would wait for Rithaleya to go up the ladder and then she would follow. Once they were back outside and barring any horrendous beasts in their way, Fyrra would turn towards the barn to make sure she had the count right, and try to analyze the situation appropriately. Merrake would draw her bow, as the distance between the group and the animals was long enough that she felt she could get a few arrows off before needing to draw her sword.
"Everyone ready?"

The Field
The salamander counts had replenished in the time they spent under ground. It was as if the kills they had made had done nothing at all. Though the bodies lay there still, with their brethren feasting upon the corpses. Blood was on their mind, and more blood they would have.

"Alright, choose your targets and fire on my mark, then. You two aim for the center and I'll handle the right flank, again. Ready?" She drew her longbow, leaving her arrows in her quiver so she'd be free to move if she had to. "Fire!"
She launched arrows at each of the salamanders on her side of the field, to clear the way to the barn, the first meant for one's exposed flank, her second aimed at the nose of the next on the left as it turned, and took a few steps back as they'd come to retaliate, preparing to pull her improvised weapon out of the dirt if a melee seemed unavoidable.

Merrake took up her position and marked her target. In the interest of teamwork she did not rail against being ordered around by the other woman. Typically she got her orders from Fyrra though, and it seemed the Kalimbra was willing to be accommodating to this half elf. She drew her bow back and took careful aim, then loosed her first arrow at the center Salamander, then she loosed her second arrow at the same salamander to make sure it died.
Fyrra would defer her action until both of the fighters had taken their actions at the salamanders. Then she would see if any of them had died, taking stock of their numbers. If she spotted none that were dead then she would chose the one closest to center and shatter one of its bones with her powers. If it subsequently died she would follow up with a more powerful and deadly spell to the detriment of the other Salamanders. If there was already a dead salamander on the field there among the five, she would focus her energies into that same deadly spell. The bones and flesh of the deceased creature would heat up and then explode in a wave of fire, burning flesh, and flaming bone shrapnel, likely killing the others instantly.

(I'd rather not RP a reaction to something that couldn't have happened, so if we're keeping it as-is...)
Rith splits the jewelry they found, taking a ring and an amulet for herself, and dons the headband, before investigating the barn.

Fyrra and Merrake gathered what they could. The latter making sure each of the salamanders was dead before progressing on to the barn. Fyrra picked up a silver ring and a silver amulet herself. She wiped the gore off of them both and put them in her sarong for later us. They were basic jewelry, and would do nothing for her in a situation such as this without enchantments. She didn't know any enchanters though. The Kalimbra would keep close and would move on the barn at the same time as the others.
Yeah, my bad. I should have taken the time to double check it before finishing it.
Also Necromancy II from Shatter.
