"Favors?"
"Who would you refer her to? I could use some new gear myself."
"What's wrong with your current equipment?"
"Nothing, it's just not great. It's average. A Cresfa saber or Arrek'Nai would be preferable. The ring mail I have is sub par as well. I don't know what the initiative did with my original gear."
"They probably passed it on to someone else that needed it."
"Hopefully."
Merrake's gear was sub par. The shortsword was standard for personal defense, but it was crap against most monsters and hardened soldiers. The Shortbow she had fell into the same category. If she could acquire weapons and armor that was beyond what she had now, she'd feel better about her ability to protect the Kalimbra. Also if she could convince the Kalimbra to actually wear armor or something when they went out into the dangerous situations that the artist tended to force them into. Fyrra had no intention of doing so, but Merrake could occasionally be convincing.

"Favours. You know, 'if you do a thing for me, I'll do a thing for you'. That crap. It usually makes about as much sense as trading a gold piece for a copper one, only there's more who'll say their copper is worth more than your gold." Rithaleya continued drinking, but her mug was running dry, so she turned back to her sandwich.

Jorkahn was so into the conversation about his bow that he didn't immediately notice that the one he was showing it to did not seem the least bit interested. He did, however, frown at her flippant response. It was apparent to him that Rithaleya did not share the same interest in her weapons that the Ritgr did. He placed his bow back underneath his cloak, no longer interested in talking about it when he felt like he was annoying those around him. When he was asked a question he responded.
"Well, it varies from person to person, often with consideration of their talents or interests. I suppose you can always negotiate with him, maybe even pay with money if that is all you wish to part with. He had me hunt some wolves for him as payment for my current gear." A half-truth, but the Champion did not feel comfortable mentioning he was a Ritgr yet. "Admittedly the wolves have been elusive of late and I have not upheld my end of the bargain, yet. As for who this mystery craftsman is? Why that would be Duke Mardok, of course. He is quite skilled in nearly every aspect of the art of crafting, as far as I am aware." The half-breed was smiling for a while again, but that shortly fell off at Rithaleya's final comment.
A look of anger flashed across his face for a moment and Jorkahn clenched his fist. For a short few seconds, he glared at the half-Elkagr unable to control himself. Even if she wasn't directly attempting to insult his lord, Jorkahn took it that way. He very quickly realized how he was outwardly reacting and took a deep breath, his face conforming to a much more neutral expression. Even that expression was eventually replaced with a smile, this one quite a bit faker than the last few.
"Now, Rithaleya, you can rest assured when I say you are misjudging his character. I am certain he would be willing to negotiate terms that would be mutually beneficial to you both." The Champion turned to Merrake and Fyrra. "Same goes for you ladies, of course!" He finished his sandwich in an attempt to occupy his mind with other thoughts.

"I have no doubt, if he's parting with stuff like that for nothing more than 'you should hunt wolves sometime' as payment," Rithaleya replied cheerfully. On the contrary, she didn't doubt Duke Mardok's character at all. By this point it'd have been more accurate to say she doubted his existence. The Champion of Jewels, rich though he was, wasn't making much sense to her.
Then again, was it really that hard to believe Jorkahn had gotten his gear for nothing? Maybe it did make sense.
She was very satisfied with thoughtfully eating her sandwich and not commenting.

"Well, perhaps he can outfit me."
"That would be good! Hmm, but what could we offer in exchange?"
"Not sure. He seems to already have someone to take care of his wolves."
Merrake was just teasing Jorkahn about the wolf thing. She grinned at the young champion of jewels. He was an interesting young lad, and he had certainly changed quite a bit since their last meeting even.
Fyrra had spotted a table that had opened up in the meantime and gestured for them to move to it.
"Let's take up residence at that table over there. Please join us Rithaleya. Perhaps we can also look at the job bulletin to see if there's any work to be done?"
Once they had joined at the table, Fyrra ordered drinks for everyone, as well as a plate of muffins. A sampling of cinnamon muffins to be exact. Supposedly it went well with the Mallon Pilsner. She was not much of a beer person, preferring wine. But the Tipsy Darkling hadn't the coin to be able to purchase wine. And certainly not the coin to buy Hek'Cruican fine wines.
"A round of the pilsner, and a plate of muffins, for my friends."
"Aye ma'am!"
Muffins x10 Cinnamon -Heals for 10 MP -Cost: .01 gold
Mallon Pilsner x4 -Each time consumed the character's threshold for resisting intoxication drops by 15. -Cost: .01 gold
Total Cost: .14 gold

Rithaleya reluctantly picked up her plate and water, and followed the others. She much preferred to stay at the bar, even when in the best company she could find, but even if she didn't like these people, they did seem rich and powerful, so it seemed more than wise not to snub them just yet. After she was seated, she sniffed at a muffin and put it back down, continuing to eat her sandwich. She could always have one for dessert, though she preferred not to eat dessert, either.
The extra beer, she was going to drink inevitably, but she wasn't foolish enough to start right now.
"Right. Sure. Job board. Not that my purse is hurting right now..." The dry season was a good time for hunting, at least for those who could take the heat. Most animals were sluggish this time of year, and they were easy to find, since days were long, and they stayed near the water holes. But then, she was staying sluggishly near a watering hole, too. Well, not everyone could be an elite hunter. She settled for being mediocre, there.

Jorkahn nodded at what Rithaleya immediately had to say. "It surprised me, too the first time around." He turned to Merrake and Fyrra. "I would be surprised if he said no." He chuckled at Merrake's joke and contributed in his own way. "Considering I have yet to solve his wolf problem, maybe you lot will do it first? Would that mean what I wear is now yours?" The young Ritgr returned Merrake's grin before Fyrra gestured towards a table. The lad shrugged and stood from the bar, leaving his dishes for the staff to clean up and a few coins for their troubles.
"Hmm, haven't looked at the board in a while. I wonder if there is anything worthwhile?" The warrior sat down at the table and saw a familiar sight play out before his eyes. Fyrra had ordered food and drinks for the table. "Thank you for the food and drink, Kalimbra!" He took a pilsner and a muffin, taking a bite of the latter before sipping the former. He was surprised, just a few short months ago he hated the taste of most alcohol, now he found the pilsner somewhat agreeable. It made him realize how much he had changed in such a short time, but he chose not to dwell on why. He took a bigger gulp.
"Alas, I fear I have run out of things to talk about. Unfortunately, I can be a rather boring individual sometimes." He smiled at his joke to show he wasn't being serious in his insult to himself.

"The world's worst conversationalists are the ones who always have something to talk about," Rithaleya opines. "But then, I'm seldom interested in conversation." True to her word, she finishes her sandwich. Torn between eating a muffin and drinking a second beer, she dunks the muffin in her beer before eating it. The look on her face suggests this wasn't a great experiment, and she drains half the beer, instead, not so much against her better judgement as in lieu of any.
Carousing... 15? S9o9FJ2A Another failure.

"Ah, a poor flavor combination."
Fyrra expressed before turning on the subject and moving on to something else. So the woman was of the opinion that a poor conversationalist always had something to say? Fyrra was curious about that.
"What makes a good conversationalist in your opinion?"
The Kalimbra had yet to touch her beer. Merreke was already working on hers. The artist did reach for a muffin and began to nibble at it. She did not want to further put Jorkahn on the spot. Or continue talking about a duke that wasn't even there.

"Restraint? That's got to do it. Not just less words, but saying less at a time. Those who say two things at once are a pain, and they don't usually stop at just two." Rithaleya was starting to gesture a bit too wildly with every word that she said. At this rate, she'd soon be sloshing her drink everywhere without noticing.

Tyr had a small assortment of reasons to justify the trip to Innorsford, but in the end it boiled down to him wanting to visit the Hunter's Market for some more bones to work, plus seeing how the town faired after the deal with Kel'Alee went through. So far it didn't seem like much had changed, but progress was on the horizon. Talking with various people pointed him in the direction of the bulletin board and the pending upgrades to the local area. It reminded him of some work he needed to do back in Mardok, but also presented a chance for him to help out once again. The waterworks repairs would be a good project to jump in on, and possibly give him a chance to study their original construction. Such study would be useful when designing his own.
After a short walk through the town, and a side trip to the market, the Duke crossed the street and entered the Tipsy Darkling where Jorkahn was supposed to be waiting for him. As his eyes adjusted from the shifting light, Tyr walked to the bar and put five ritz on the counter while waiting for service. When the bartender would undoubtedly come to inspect why he'd dropped that much money, Tyr would lean over and quietly inform them the next several orders, from anyone really, were on him. At least as much as the five ritz would cover. Because why not be generous when money was the farthest concern from your mind? Leaving the bar with a mug of water in hand, Tyr scoped out his Ritgr and walked up to the table cheerfully.
"Made some friends have you Jorkahn?" Tyr glanced over the gathered people. The other two looked strikingly familiar... "Ahh the.." He'd forgotten the name of it. It was one time, he'd never heard it again, give the man a break. "Performer from the Countess' establishment, yes? Fyrra I believe?" At least he had the name down. "Who might these others be?"

Jorkahn nodded at what Rithaleya was saying. He found himself agreeing with what the half-elf was saying, mostly. "By your standards, I must not be the greatest conversationalist, then. I have a tendency to talk a little more than necessary." He smiled, indicating once again he was only half serious. "Though I personally think the best conversationalists find a middle ground between the two. If what they have to say is interesting, then listening to them ramble on can be an enlightening experience!" He had a few people in mind when saying this. The Champion of Jewels took another gulp of his beer just before Tyr came into the conversation. He hadn't noticed the man come in so it caught the half-breed off guard.
Jorkahn quickly stood up, his face noticeably brightening. He waited for the Duke to finish speaking before responding. "Ah, Tyr! I see you finally made it, My Lord." Jorkahn motioned towards everyone as he introduced them. "Yes, that is Kalimbra Fyrra Na'Limndra, her bodyguard Merrake Av'Manait, and a new acquaintance Rithaleya Kalladysvariamyn." He tried to pronounce everyone's name to the best of his ability. After everyone else was introduced he pointed towards Tyr, addressing those at the table. "And this is Duke Tyr Mardok." He paused for a moment and waited for Tyr to sit down before sitting down himself.
"Would you like a Pilsner or a Muffin, Tyr? The Kalimbra kindly bought them for us." He smiled at Fyrra hoping she didn't mind.

Jorkahn was only a little bit buzzed, maybe it explained the ease with which words passed from his lips.

Ritaleya wasn't sure was the etiquette was for greeting a duke--did she throw her drink, lick his boots, or what?--and she was drunk enough already, so she half-heartedly waved her tankard at him and moved halfway to falling off her chair, then compromised by taking another bite out of her muffin, in toast, and saying something through the mouthful unintelligibly.
"Ngmmf vsh t' rmnge vivvim nrgim." After swallowing, she made a sort of salute with her fingers.

"Indeed, Duke Mardok. I hope you and your kin enjoyed the performance as I wasn't able to stop until long after everyone had departed."
Merrake nodded her head at the duke. She didn't know what to say to the man, or what was appropriate to say. She didn't feel that Jorkahn's casual address towards the Duke or really anyone other than the Kalimbra was appropriate in fact. It was odd. He had addressed the Kalimbra with her title and properly, after having addressed the Duke by his first name so casually. She was befuddled. Fyrra on the other hand had let the impropriety pass by and was already engaging the Duke in conversation. The others had either nothing to say or were full of muffin, so she took it upon herself to move things along. She crossed her legs at the knee and turned to face him fully.
"Jorkahn tells us you're here on business of some kind. Are you a member of the alliance?"

Tyr gave a polite nod to each introduction and sat in an open chair. He waved off the offered goods and raised his mug instead.
"I'm all taken care of for the moment. Enjoy the Kalimbra's treats." The unknown one, Rithaleya, seemed to be caught rather off-guard by his presence. Oh well, it happened. Best not to focus on it, instead he thought about how best to answer Fyrra's question while musing on her first comments. "Why yes, it was quite the show for us all. My mother found great meaning in it, and I must commend your skill. I cannot fathom how one learns to stay so still." Kilian's perspective on things could go without comment.
"As for the Alliance, you must understand I live directly next to the seat of the Kingdom's power, and am a direct servant of the King. To be an open supporter of the Alliance would be...irresponsible." He looked around the bar, judging the occupants. He was most likely safe here, Innorsford owed quite a bit of its current success to the Alliance through the Republic's efforts in Kel'Alee. Efforts in which he had played a key part. He spoke quietly as he turned back to Fyrra, smiling through his words. "I have been known to occasionally provide some...minor support however."
