*Tyr's scouts discover the town is swarming with enemy troops.* *Redgar finds a fresh horse trail. Happens upon an infantry ambush!*
The scout would return to Tyr's forces reporting that over a thousand enemy troops were occupying the town. Most of them a mix of infantry and archers. There were no cavalry to be seen. The town appeared to be in the beginnings of becoming fortified. There was a ditch around the town and a rudimentary palisade wall half completed.
Redgar's forces stumbled upon an enemy infantry ambush on a horse trail they had come upon and began to follow. Once battle was joined, the fighting was fierce on both sides, with the cavalry dominating and taking no losses. The forest was soon littered with hundreds of bodies, and the ground was red with the blood of men.

The scout's report meant it was time to move out. The longer they waited the more fortified the town would become. While it wouldn't be an insurmountable defense, it would still create some problems. Orders were issued and the troops started to move. As they moved Tyr would keep the scouts running nearby, searching for any cavalry that might be trying to circle around and strike from the flank or behind.
Leading the troops towards the town. Easy (15) + Leadership III (15) + Cha (40) = DC 70. qXqCjSc6 29, success. Checking for a trap or ambush. Easy (15) + Tactics 0 (0) + T (40) = DC 55. 98, failure. 24, success.
The army altered formation slightly, with the infantry dividing to the front and back of the columns. It would keep the archers from being annihilated if cavalry did strike from behind, and if they came from the sides it'd make shifting to meet them that much easier. Not quite a box formation, but close enough. If nothing came out to surprise them they'd march straight up to the town. The archers would stay back and counterfire at any opposing archers they found, not wanting to fire into a melee and hurt their own comrades.··

They had stumbled upon an ambush! Battle was joined immediately and blood filled the air and pooled on the ground! Redgar rallied his troops easily, routing the enemy force in kind. The fighting lasted over an hour, as the enemy forces attempted to give as good as they got. They had the advantage of the trees to keep Redgar from gathering his cavalry for a mounted charge, but they still had a great advantage over the enemy infantry.
"BREAK THEIR BACKS! SLAUGHTER THEM ALL TO THE LAST!"
Redgar was having the time of his life, killing these weaklings with impunity. His dire wolf Baalrung, mauled and bit many enemies to death. The lord's halberd bloodied, hacked, and impaled quite a few enemy soldiers as well. When it was all over he gathered his men, took a count, and was surprised he had taken no casualties. He was quite pleased with their performance.
"WELL DONE! NOW LET'S GO FIND THE REST OF THESE FEEBLE WHIMPERING MONGRELS AND PUT A BLADE THROUGH THEIR HEARTS!"

Tyr's troops had clashed with the enemy near the village. The enemy had spotted his men and opted to go and fight on the field of battle rather than within the town. It appeared that whoever was leading this unit had some modicum of honor left. Despite this honor, the entire unit of Lost Battalion troops were killed to the last man by Tyr's infantry in a melee that lasted not even half an hour. Redgar's troops were inspired by his leadership and continued along the horse trail. Tyr's army is attacked by:750 Infantry -T. HP: 750 -T. Dmg: 750 -T. Armor: 0 -T. Battle was joined, albeit briefly. The enemy had come out to meet them, and the fields were watered with blood. When the last infantryman was killed Tyr rallied his troops and continued the march towards the town. They would cross the newly constructed ditch and move towards the town center, watching careful for any potential traps. While the infantry had come out to play, it was entirely likely others might be waiting to strike at an opportune moment. They could even be hiding in the villager's houses.
Checking for traps/ambushes. Easy (15) + Tactics 0 (0) + T (40) = DC 55. s4TfPWtP
At the town center Tyr would find a high place to stand, surrounded by his troops, and declare the town as a new part of the Mardok duchy. It was a short but grand speech about how their lives would be improved under his leadership, meant to win the hearts and minds of the people immediately.
Conquest check. Easy (15) + Cha/Dip (80) + Conquest 0 (0) + Force of Personality (10) = 105. Autosuccess.
The people acknowledged his claim and went about their lives, not really caring who decided they wanted to be in charge. They still had crops to grow, taxes to pay, children to rear. The Duke was somewhat struck by their indifference, but hey if they were going to just go along with it then why not do the same? As his new subjects Tyr immediately put their loyalty to use. Several of the infantry were dispatched to ask townspeople, politely mind you, if they had any information regarding where any other troops might be hiding, or where they commonly went.

Redgar's men had located a horse trail after the melee. They continued to follow it in formation, attempting to keep their profile small. Tyr'd cavalry were well trained however. They did not need much goading despite their number being over a thousand still to stay in formation. The way going was long due to the length of the column.

Tyr would learn from the villagers that the main enemy encampment was about fifteen miles due west in the forest. When further questions they would reveal that the encampment had been there a while and was obviously fortified. None of the villagers dared to go there even when they were bade to go and deliver agricultural goods. They had nothing else to say about the town because they knew nothing else. Redgar's troops would spot a village a few miles off. They couldn't tell if it was crawling with troops or if it was just full of villagers.

Now armed with the location of his enemy, Tyr moved his armies out immediately to seek and destroy. Maybe leave their encampment intact if he could, building fortifications took quite a bit of effort. It was a fairly easy navigational challenge, heading straight in one direction, and the Duke lead the way for most of it. Along with some scouts he kept a wary eye out for any charging cavalry, or archers emplaced for a surprise volley.

The troops would engage any hidden enemies, or charging cavalry, as best they could while making their way across the terrain to the encampment. From there they would immediately engage the camp, archers sending in volley after volley to thin out the numbers. The infantry would form the same protective lines around the archers as before, ready to engage anything that came at them.
Moving to the enemy camp and engaging. Archers firing from outside, infantry staying back to defend them.··

"Lord Karligar, we've spotted a village along this horse trail, what are your orders?"
"Send a squad to scout the village. If we are walking into another ambush, I'd like to know about it beforehand."
Redgar had come down from the bloodlust he had nearly succumbed to while fighting the first ambush. The rush he had felt was amazing. Baalrung had slain many enemies alongside him. The red of their blood had stained the land there, and would probably linger for several seasons. Redgar had brought his cavalry column to a halt, waiting for the report from the scouts to come back.

Tyr's troops fired volley after volley into the encampment, receiving volley's in kind. However, the trees of the forest prevented the enemy archers from being effective at all, and the armor Tyr's troops wore contributed as well. After several hours of fighting the enemy on the ground (as his foes cavalry attempted to break his defenses and cut down his archers) and dozens of volleys, the last of the Lost Battalion had fallen. A survey of the dead did not reveal the whereabouts of the enemy commander, and did not yield a corpse that would match her description. There were no survivors among the enemy troop. Redgar would find via his scouts that the village was occupied by the remaining enemy forces. They had spotted his troops on the first go around and indeed were preparing a defense for him. It would not be long before they would be ready to sally out and attack him.
Tyr's troops suffer 0 casualties. +4 Army points for victory.

"Lord Karligar! We've spotted enemy troops inside the village. We're also sure they've discovered our position."
"Fools! We could have made a surprise attack had they not spotted you! Damn. We will have to attack now before they can fully prepare any sort of retaliation against us. Form up, cavalry! WE RIDE TO BATTLE!"
Redgar ordered his troops to attack the enemy village in full force, approaching from the road in a full on charge, two by two. Hopefully they would plow through the enemy and tear through them as if they were dried leaves being consumed by a bonfire. His men were ready, they were armed and armored with the best available. As far as Redgar had seen the enemy was poorly armed and armored. They were not much of a cohesive unit either. He supposed they would fight better and harder knowing their annihilation was at hand, but that would not be much of a boon over drastic superiority.
Sure, the enemy had numbers. But what Redgar and his men lacked in numerical strength they made up for in actual strength of arms and skill.
So he gave the order to charge. They would kill every foe they came into contact with.

Redgar's cavalry charged through the village and swept aside the enemy defenders like a flood. Blood ran through the streets. Battle was not joined for long. It was as Redgar had thought it would be, though the Lost Battalion had a superior force in size, his troops were superior in the ways it mattered more this time. His men had been baptized in battle. Yet the county had not accepted Mardok as it's ruler yet.
