It took a moment for Tyr to piece the whole thing together, but when the concept eventually dawned on him he was conflicted as to how to deal with it. If that was indeed to be a requirement for Redgar's aid, it needed to come from him as Tyr wasn't overly eager to make such an arrangement. And yet he knew Redgar didn't care for such a thing, the man was just chasing the thrill of an exciting battle. Katrina was starting to take shape as someone he wanted to heavily oppose, it seemed she was using her siblings like chess pieces for her own gain. Destroying Redgar's reputation with the border control act, risking her sister's well-being by having her champion an idea to Redgar out of turn.
And yet from what he knew of the Karligars, they were a family of strong personalities. To convince Mina to do something that would clearly aggravate Redgar, what was the leverage there? He doubted it was kindness or loyalty. Nervous as Mina was, it seemed more like something born of fear. Tyr pinched the bridge of his nose for a moment, mind racing to come up with a good solution to the problem he'd been presented. Everything he came up with seemed a risky endeavor, and none of them with large payoffs in the end for either side. In the end though, Tyr's strong disdain for being used won out.
"Your sister Katrina means to set up a marriage between our houses, using my urgent need to secure my compliance." There was no reason to be anything other than blunt about it. It was an incredibly clever tactic, but it was an overreaching move. Tyr had requested assistance to keep civilian casualties at a minimum, not because he actually required the help. Tyr looked up at his counterpart, face a stone mask of calm. "Do you support this outside requirement for your aid, Duke Karligar? Will you let someone else dictate the price of your actions?" It was a dangerous game he was playing now. His words would likely end up pitting Redgar against Katrina, and there was no telling how that would go. Redgar was a good soldier, but Katrina seemed the cunning one. Mina would be the unfortunate sibling caught in the middle.

The Castle is On Fire!
Smoke has filled all the rooms and is heading towards any open window or high point in the castle. Flames begin to consume all of the flammable materials. Servants are heard shouting that there's a fire. A freak lightning bolt struck the newly constructed grod, lighting the dry wood on fire. The fire will destroy everything in side the structure and consume the structure if it is not dealt with. Those currently inside have minutes to get the fire under control, evacuate the non-essential firefighters, or people will die.
Player characters must roll first to resist the smoke's effects. (Vitality check) If they fail they are wracked with coughing and lose 10% of their HP.
Player characters can combat the fire by directing npc's to battle the flames, or by using their own skills and talents.

Mina felt extremely guilty for bringing up the demand that Katrina had issued. She could feel the tension in the room. Much of it building off of Tyr and Redgar. These two men were powerful, and though she was a mage, she had been too busy traveling with Redgar to begin truly practicing her magic. It had come as a surprise when Redgar didn't assault her.
Redgar's mind was a bit slow to catch on. The situation was far more complex than he was used to dealing with. Katrina was supposed to just administrate. She wasn't supposed to act like an authority. He was the authority. Though a permanent alliance did sound good, and the best way to make alliances was through marriage, he did not like being played either. Not even by his sister.
He thought about it for a moment longer and decided that he wasn't going to do what Katrina wanted him to do simply because she was trying to tell him to do it. She could be manipulative, but he had a tendency to dodge her machinations by not being where she expected him to be.
"If there's going to be a marriage between our houses it will be our decision, Duke Mardok. Not Katrina's. I will deal with her overstep. And Mina you shoul-- what the screaming hells was that crash?"
"Do you smell that?"
"Smoke?"
Then they heard the screams about the fire. Smoke billow ed into the room. Redgar ducked down, but Mina was too slow and she had inhaled, singeing her nose, throat and lungs. Her body wracked with coughs, she almost lost consciousness until Redgar pulled her down.
"The fire is spreading. We will die if we remain inside too long. Best to leave now." Redgar grabbed the map from the table and started moving towards the exit. "We can direct the firefighting effort from outside."

RBRDzCjJ Roll 42, fail.
Redgar handled the situation a lot calmer than expected, a good surprise in this case. Hopefully the anger from such a situation would be deflected off of Mina and onto Katrina, the rightful bearer of such a burden. The idea could of a permanent alliance could be handled at their level now though, whenever they chose to pursue it. Not forced into action by the manipulations of a somewhat uninvolved party.
When the sudden crash of thunder rang out Tyr stood from his seat. He couldn't hear much until the ringing cleared from his ears, but by then the smoke billowed into the room and he caught a lungful. The coughing fit that ensued brought him to the floor, and he could finally catch his breath a bit.
"Agreed, everyone out. We'll direct the firefighting efforts from outside!" Had he not been brought low by smoke he might have gone running into the castle to find his family and get them out. As it was he would be a liability doing such a thing, likely to get others killed trying to rescue him from his own efforts. As Redgar was on his way out the door though, Tyr would drag himself around the table and move to assist Mina. She seemed to be suffering from the smoke more so than anyone. He had years of experience around forge fires and smoke, his body had developed a small tolerance to the effects even if it was still painful. The Duke scooped her up in his arms and walked low out of the dining room. It was a short way to the front doors, and then out into the open air. Once safe Tyr would lay her down against one of the trees in what would eventually be the courtyard, then start directing the firefighting efforts.
Directing/Inspiring the people in their firefighting efforts! Unknown difficulty. Cha (35) + Leadership II/Inspire0 (10) + Noble Garments (30) + Force of Personality (10) = 85 +/- ?

Difficulty assessment: Difficult: -30
The local population is fighting panic and the fight or flight response. Attaining compliance is difficult in this situation.

Redgar followed behind Tyr as the Duke Mardok led them out of the castle and into what would become the castle's courtyard. He grabbed anyone he could along the way and would pull or carry them to the best of his ability.
Mina did not resist Tyr carrying her out of the burning structure. She watched the structure burn, only a little bit entranced by it. She was thinking about what she could do with it if she could harness it's natural energy and combine it and control it with her own.
Redgar would of course continue to assist Tyr in his efforts to whip his people into shape and convince them to battle the flames.
"Put that fire out you dogs! Listen to your lord! Do you dare defy him?! Fight!"

The Mardok family came running out of the constructed grod shortly after everyone else, soothing Tyr's worries a bit. A building could be rebuilt, things replaced. People were much harder to get back once lost. With everyone now safe, mostly, it was time to redouble the efforts on getting the fire put out.
"Get some buckets and form a chain to the river! Focus on the ground floors then move up! You built this thing, help me keep it standing!" Words alone wouldn't help, Tyr moved to join the bucket brigade he was trying to form. Buckets would soon go back and forth, dry ones to the river and filled ones to the flames. Whether they would be quick enough to save the place, who knew.

Given the situation, and that Tyr had managed to get his people moving along and putting out the fire, Redgar made it his personal mission to make anyone who was slacking off in this task miserable. He would call them names, he would berate them for being slow. He would run along side them and help them keep pace if they were slowing down. He would give them an additional bucket at the river if he thought they weren't carrying enough. He would also make them feel bad for spilling any.
"You! DO YOU WANT YOUR LORD'S HOME TO BURN DOWN? WHY ARE YOU RESTING? ARE YOUR LITTLE LEGS TIRED? MOVE YOUR ASS SCUM NUTS. GET UP. HAUL THAT BUCKET UP THE HILL. MY GRANDMOTHER'S REMOVED SPLEEN CAN RUN FASTER THAN YOU. IT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE LEGS BECAUSE THAT WOULDN'T MAKE SENSE! AND YOU! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! ARE YOU A SALAMANDER? ARE YOU DRAGGING YOUR BELLY ON PURPOSE? KEEP UP. COME ON. PUMP THOSE LEGS PEASANT! ONE TWO! ONE TWO! ONE TWO! WHAT?! WHY AREN'T YOU CARRY ANY BUCKETS! NO! DON'T SHOW ME YOUR BUCKET! HERE'S A BUCKET! SEE HOW IT'S FULL?! SEE HOW IT IS FULL OF FIRE QUENCHING WATER?!"
It went on and on like that.
What an ass.

With Redgar...guiding his people towards more enthusiastic firefighting, Tyr stepped out of the line and moved up and down assisting people. He was helping in a way that ran counterpoint to Duke Karligar's more aggressive tactics. Taking over spots in the line to give some people a break, offering encouragement to those still going. Together the pair brought the peasantry to bear on the flames and the structure was soon soaked with water. Steam rose as the last flames fell away, with the building sustaining only minor structural damage. Sure a fair amount of furniture would need to be replaced, but the repairs to the building itself could be wrapped into the fort construction already ongoing.
As everyone went back to their normally scheduled evening routines, Tyr had a nearby empty building prepared as a mock living quarters for Mina and Redgar. There wouldn't be much, decent bedroom furnishings but no bath or kitchen ready to go, but it would do for the night.
"I thank you for your assistance Redgar, you have helped me save my ancestral home from falling into ruin yet again." Tyr inspected what he could see of the castle, reconstructed and ruined parts alike. This could have been a massive setback, instead things would continue almost right on time. "I think it would be best if we rested this evening, and started our campaign in the morning. We can talk about additional arrangements, if necessary, before we split up and head out."

Once things had calmed down and the fire was out it was well past a good time to leave on the campaign. At the suggestion of starting in the morning, Redgar was amenable. He had tired himself out by chasing Tyr's peasants around the castle all evening, intimidating them into doing what they were probably going to do anyway. Mina was also happy to receive the rest, as the smoke inhalation had done some damage to her lungs and it would be a little bit of time until she felt full and whole.
"These accomdations are quite fine. We will set out on our campaign tomorrow morning! Any additional arrangements can be mentioned on the campaign trail. If it is alright with you, I would like to leave Mina here. She is not feeling up to the task of marching off to war."
Redgar also didn't want to bring along someone who he thought would be largely useless in battle. He knew she was a mage but she had received no education on the matter, so as far as he was concerned her abilities were limited to lighting candles and things like that.
