Arthurius almost jumped for joy, or he would of if he hadn't remembered he was in the presence of a Duke, no matter how friendly and common the Duke seemed eh was still a Duke so Arthurius knew that he should behave.#
Arthurius listened to the Duke's thoughts on the sword spear, he had no knowledge of weapons so finding out that a spear could have a bladed end anyway was something that he found rather nice, you learn something new everyday. So a spear just with a bladed end then, that would be useful to him for sure, the extra length to keep him away from trouble as well as it's uses out of combat, a walking stick, something to help him reach objects that he couldn't, it'd be useful. "The spear then would be great if you could make me one of them once you're done with the armour."
The duke then went on to suggest a travel pack, now that would probably be a good idea, more storage space for him to carry his herbs and his equipment, "And one travel pack then please, being able to carry more at once would be incredibly useful for me."
Tyr had turned to his forge while waiting for Arthurius' answer, already beginning to make something, Arthurius didnt know what exactly was being made until he began forming it into the rough shape of a helm, it was exquisite how Tyr worked, he worked with a level of craftmanship that Arthurius had not seen before this day, the helm came out of the forge and it looked rather spectacular, although he knew nothing of metals or their working so for all he knew that could be an absolutely terrible piece.
He was about to ask if it had come out ok, but seeing the reverence and care that Tyr put into handling it, he guessed that it had come out well, Arthurius was over the moon if it had come out well, but he wouldn't know until it was all done and Tyr told him if it had come out well or not. He was wondering, trying to hold himself back from asking.
He caved. "Did it come out well?" Arthurius said, trying to sound as casual with his question as he could eventhough a lot of his other feelings could be so plainly seen.

"It came out very well. It's one of the best pieces I've made." Tyr's voice was calm and level, but under the surface he was barely containing his joy. Making something amazing was a wonderful feeling. It was hard sometimes knowing that other people couldn't fully understand or appreciate what they were receiving. He motioned to the waiting helm, a smile breaking onto his face. "Try it on."
The Duke didn't waste any more time though, it was a large order he had to fill. The body armor would be next, a fine suit of crafted plates to cover the torso. Chains worked better almost, but plates were easier to produce and faster to fit together than chain was. Besides unless Arthurius was planning to travel nonstop for the next year it wasn't like he wouldn't be able to maintain it, or have someone do it for him.
"Would you be willing to do me a favor once all this is made? I need someone to travel to the mountains with me and keep watch while I mine. I've had reports of animal attacks in the area, and mining takes some effort. Would you be interested? I could compensate you well for your effort."

Arthurius stood in barely contained glee, it was one of the best thing's he'd ever made, and once he'd paid for it the helm would be his, it'd be nice to have some quality arms and armour instead of the rubbish furs that he was currently wearing, it'd be nice to have a decent weight on his back and a good sharp weapon at his side should he need it. He had a feeling he would most definitely be needing it at some point. "One of your best? How fortunate I am."
And he was even now getting to try it on, Arthurius figured that he had a fairly decent grasp on what exactly it was like to create something, even if they worked with different materials both of them were craftsmen at heart, and Arthurius could empathise the joy that Tyr was getting from creating one magnificent piece after the other. Arthurius reverently lifted the helm that Tyr had made off of the table it rested on, the metal still warm to the touch, careful not to tarnish the newly forged metal he placed it on his head. The helm was surprisingly comfortable, it seemed to fit onto his head rather well and was incredibly solid in it's design. It truly was a work of art, a work of art for an iron worker that could not be rivalled in any land as far as Arthurius had seen. "The helmet is beautifully made, it seems pretty tough and is more comfortable than i expected, a testament to your skill I should think."
As soon as tyr had set down the helmet he had immediately began to make the next piece, he was making lots of smaller plates, before starting to put them together into a fine set of plate mail, it looked truly amazing to Arthurius, he could see the skill in it even if he had barely any knowledge of iron working himself. Tyr truly was creating him an amazing set of armour and so he made a mental note to amply compensate the duke for his work.
When the job offer was mentionned Arthurius didn't even have to think, of course he'd do it, it'd be worth the time and by helping the Duke in a way he was helping himself as well as if the duke had more and better ingredients he might be more inclined to make Arthurius more equipment, for a decent price of course. "I'd be glad to help you with this, seeing as you're spending the time and effort to make me this amazing apparel i'll happily come and help you gather your materials, I'm sure with the high quality goods you're currently forging me it'll be a piece of cake."
Arthurius placed the helmet back down, still with absolutely unneccessarily over the top care, whilst he knew that he couldn't break the helmet most likely if he was given a large hammer and several hours, it was a new piece of equipment and so he'd definitely be treating it with love and care for now.

Ssryl entered Mardok from the southeast, the road that ran along the forest. The town was rather large, with plenty of new buildings. It was actually quite an impressive piece of human ingenuity. He needed to find a place to stay, a place he could keep Thomas safe. To do that he likely needed to find work, but who was going to hire a Skaldi when they could just take one as their slave? One bridge at a time.
Ssryl wasn't even sure where to start looking for any of the things he required. He just kind of stood there thinking, Thomas standing beside him. Then he heard a familiar ping, it brought back memories both good and bad, but it was something he knew, something that was a part of him. It was a place to at least start. Ssryl followed the sound of metal striking metal until he found himself standing before quite the impressive workshop. Within two humans were discussing their crafts. Ssryl wasn't quite sure how to introduce himself in such situations, he had oft before been treated as though invisible, but that was not likely to be the case now.
Ssryl knocked near the entrance, trying to get the attention of the two within, nearly dropping the iron ingots cradled in his arms. "Ssryl, umm... Ssryl comes looking for work. Ssryl worked forge in south, now here and need work." His voice quite meek, he did not want to appear intimidating, despite his massive frame and the myriad scars that adorned his body. He wasn't sure how to explain the seven year old human he traveled with, perhaps he wouldn't have to.

"Fortunate indeed, it's only recently I've been able to make such masterpieces. You happened upon my shop at a good time." And it seemed like he was rapidly gaining proficiency at making masterpieces. A heavy amount of his crafts the past couple days had all been coming out wonderfully. Maybe he was finally becoming a master in his own right?
Arthurius being on board for a jaunt up to the mountains would be fantastic. If he could mine out a bunch of coal while he was there it'd be so much easier to make steel in the future. He'd just have to make sure he could get a pack ready to go before he went up there. And maybe another one that Arth could wear. Double the haul, double the fun! But armor came first, then the spear, and then plans could be made for a mid-day hike. They could even tag along with some of the miners heading up and gets some tips on places to mine.
But daydreaming aside it was time for some nice sturdy boots. Iron plates everywhere, a solid metal base, everything that could be armored on it would be. That's what you did when you wanted to pack five iron ingots into a pair of boots.
Making boots from 5 iron. Simple (30) + K (20) + Knowledge (Iron III/Armor III = 30) = Threshold 80. dySX2k|S Fail. Skill roll to salvage, DC 20. (2 of 3 for the thread)
Fail, materials lost.
But this time it didn't come together quite right, leaving him with a mess of iron in his hands. He tossed it to the side and nearly started right again when a new voice caught his attention. Looking up at the newcomer, the sight of a giant Skaldi entering his shop gave him a momentary pause before he went right back to his normal self.
"Welcome Sureal. I might be able to find some work for you, though I'll need to be sure you can do it. Come, share the forge fire with me. Make me a knife from one piece of iron to demonstrate your skills." It was odd asking someone else to make something for him. But the weirder part was wanting to help do it. Was this what his old masters had felt when they first tested him?
Tyr will be assisting with whatever Ssryl makes. (+25 because of assistance with higher tier knowledge, +5 from the Fishery's forge upgrade)·

"Ssryl is grateful for the opportunity." Ssryl stepped up to the forge, setting down his ingots. Thomas remained outside, observing as his skaldi guardian began his work. Ssryl took one of the ingots and placed it in the crucible to melt, the forge took care of the billows, a task that had once been relegated to the skaldi.
There were several molds for blades in the workshop, he took a smaller one and poured the now molten metal into the mold, allowing it to slowly solidify on the cooler coals. Once the metal was solid enough to work with, he used the tongs to move the glowing blade to the anvil. He began to work the metal with a hammer, the blade beginning to take its true form. The human pointed out a few points where he nearly made a mistake that would have ruined the blade, and pointed out where any tools he may have needed were. Ssryl was grateful for the assistance.
Each blade began the same, but each had a life of its own, changing, evolving until it took its final form. A form that represented the skill of its creator, a signature that would stay with the blade for as long as it was used. He plunged the blade in oil, and then heated it again, shaping adding the finishing touches. He then looked at his completed work, seeing if his efforts had resulted in a worthy blade.
Weapon Smithing I (+5), Iron Smithing I (+5), K (+10), Simple(+30), Forge (+5), Tyr's Help (+25): Threshold 80 2|m37mtE
The blade seemed adequate to the skaldi, he turned it over a few times, perhaps more than adequate. He checked the blade for any flaws, he didn't notice any so he handed the blade to the human. "Does Ssryl's work please you?"

A skaldi had just walked in, had he really seen it right, the fact that a Skaldi had just randomly walked through those doors. Arthurius rubbed his eyes, he wasn't sure if he was hallucinating or not now, he couldn't be as not a minute after it had walked through those doors Tyr was allowing it to craft. Tyr had failed on the molten lump of metal that remained of the boots he was trying to make for the alchemist, but Arthurius wasn't particularly concerned, he was more concerned that a giant reptilian humanoid had walked into the artificery and no one was even slightly freaking out about it.
Not only was Tyr not freaking out about it, the man had straight away let it forge a knife, without even questionning anything about it other than it's skills at the forge. Arthurius wasn't against Skaldi by any means, for him they were another race to be studied in the same way he would study humans, but it was interesting that in times such as these were Skaldi were so often enslaved and sold that one would just walk up to them and start working...
He was dumbstruck to say the least and it quite clearly showed on his face.

With only minor assistance the Skaldi performed well, crafting a fine blade from the single iron ingot. It wouldn't go slicing through any of the recent armor Tyr had made, but then Tyr couldn't make a knife capable of that from one ingot either. It was a good piece nonetheless, and it was proof the Skaldi could handle at least basic work. This was good, Tyr needed some people to tend the shop and produce decent works. Even better, it meant there was a competent hand to help. Having an assistant to help produce the more difficult works was wonderful, and not having to train them up in the first place sped things up considerably.
"The work is good. Keep it for now, I have one more task for you. When I call for a strike, do so." This time it would be Ssryl assisting Tyr while the latter produced one of the pieces Arthurius had requisitioned. Tyr modified the original request a little bit for ease of production, he wanted to make sure this went smoothly. He sewed up a quick pair of gloves, getting Arthurius' size by rough estimates, then started pulling out some ingots together to make the metal gauntlets that would fit over them. Having someone to help hammer the ingots together though made the job so much easier. He could worry about keeping them aligned instead, and watching the heat of the metal.
"Strike." He calmly called, over and over. The ingots would form together, and once done Tyr would take over the smithing, hammering out curved plates for the fingers and sections for the hands. Fitting them over the leather and smashing the rivets flat was quick and easy too. And just like that, he had working gloves.
Making gauntlets from 4 iron and 2 leather. Simple (30) + K (20) + Knowledges (Iron III/TannerII/Armor III= 40) + Forge (5) + Assistance (10) = DC 105. Auto success. (This does assume Ssryl helps me, but I really doubt he won't.) Masterwork check: 10+40 = 50. Three degrees possible. A2h_I4D9 That's a nope.
War Gauntlets (4I2L): 50 DR, Req 20 Str, 10 Agi, 10 K
They came out well, a good first work for the pair. Tyr set them on the table and smiled. This could work out well.
(If things magically don't go this way during Ssryl's next post, I'll edit this.)

Was it only him that was surprised that a Skaldi had walked in, Tyr just carried on making the order that Arthurius had submitted, even allowing the Skaldi to help him out in making the gloves that would soon be Arthurius'. Measurements of his hands was taken and Arthurius watched again as Tyr went through his process, this time however he continuously called out strike, at which point the Skaldi would strike the metal.
It was quite interesting watching this interracial communication in the workplace, it seemed although they both knew exactly what they were doing even if Tyr was so obviously the one in charge for the moment, probably possessing greater skill than the Skaldi. They worked in tandem like this until the piece was done, it came out looking solid, it didn't appear as if it'd be breaking anytime soon although Arthurius wouldn't know until he put them on and actually did something.
Still he was happy with the work and he was on the Duke's land, if the Duke wanted to invite a passing Skaldi to help then Arthurius couldn't really fault him, "Seems like you have a decent work partner there, he's almost as good as you" Arthurius joked, whilst the Skaldi was good he didn't appear to be at Tyr level yet, this point was also a reference to the fact that Skaldi were usually sold as slaves and so they didn't have much proffession based knowledge, they did unskilled jobs and labours usually. Or rather they did whatever their masters told them to.

Of course Ssryl was willing to help, it was nice to have his work appreciated for once, instead of just being a tool to earn money. He followed the direction of the human, aiding in the craft of a pair of gauntlets, they came out beautifully, but he felt the human could have done better. Not that the gauntlets weren't perfectly fine, but by the appearance of some of his other works that were still around. Ssryl couldn't help but feel he had gotten in the human's way. To atone for his perceived mistake, he took the gauntlets before passing them to the other human.
He attempted to recall the words the mage-hunter had so often used to bless armor, making it even stronger against blows. "Infundo armatura tutela." he chanted the incantation over the gauntlets several times, willing them to be stronger.
Enchant: Thaumaturgy I, Artificing I, Shielding I, K 15 SYAeIpex (61 fails even if it is a simple check) -40mp
Forgot Skill Save 15 (1 of 3)
Regrettably, nothing seemed to happen. Had he not remembered all of the words? Had his intention not been clear enough in his mind? Regardless of the reason, the outcome had been the same, the gauntlets remained un-enchanted. He sat them down, quite defeated, contemplating how he had gotten the spell wrong.·

The Duke raised an eyebrow at the Skaldi's chanting over the gauntlets, but when nothing special seemed to happen he let it go as some form of tradition. Tyr was satisfied with Ssryl's ability to work a forge, and best of all work with him to make pieces. It would be incredibly helpful to future projects to have some assistance, and having a second smith around would give him alternate ways of seeing finished products. Tyr tended to make highly streamlined items, no frills on them and no excess features. He created what was asked for, as simply as he could. Not everyone would like that though, and there might be ways to make it look better without sacrificing function that someone else would see.
"Ssryl, I have a few more pieces to make for my current order. If you'd help me finish them I can pay you for the work, and we can talk about some terms of employment." Tyr had no issue having a Skaldi work for him, it was a step forward for his plans actually. They were a fascinating people that he wanted to learn more about, having one close to him would make it a whole hell of a lot easier. Setting some more iron into the fire, the smith started work on the next piece. If Ssryl helped him he'd call out strikes in the same way and forge Arthurius' boots.
Making boots from 4 iron and 2 leather. Simple (30) + K (20) + Knowledges (Iron III/TannerII/Armor III= 40) + Forge (5) + Assistance (10) = DC 105. Auto success. (Again assuming Ssryl helps me, still highly doubt he won't.) Masterwork check: 10+40 = 50. Three degrees possible. 7qYGKtBl Nope.
War Boots (4I2L): 50 DR, Req 20 Str, 10 Agi, 10 K
The boots came out just as easily as the gauntlets did, and about as well. The process was a lot simple, even if it was taking a little getting used to. He wasn't able to make any masterpieces immediately, but then again it'd taken him years and several hundred crafts to be able to in the first place so it wasn't like Tyr was expecting it to immediately start happening again.

When the gauntlets had came out the Skaldi had started muttering over them, words that to most would sound like Jibberish yet Arthurius could understand what was happening due to his studies, the Skaldi was trying to use magic. So Skaldi were capable of using magic as well, and this one appeared to be attempting to do something to to his gauntlets, yet from the look of Tyr he didn't seem to know what was going on. Arthurius decided for now to keep this fact to himself as practice of magic was highly illegal, but at the same time he had nothing against this Skaldi and nothing harmful was happening from the Skaldi's chanting so presumably either the spell failed or it's effects were ones that they couldn't see.
Tyr had begun again this time making him a solid set of boots, they had failed to be made before yet now he was going at it again, this time presumably with the SKaldi's help instead of on his own.
The boots came out, and although they lacked some of the brilliance of Tyr's earlier pieces they still looked quite tough and perfect for what he'd need them for, it wasn't as if he could fault Tyr if some of his pieces were better than others, it was an different process each time that would produce different results.

Once more Ssryl assisted the human as best he could, striking when/where called for with the best of his ability. The boots came out much as the gauntlets had, lacking some of the skill he was able to observe in the other pieces. Once more the skaldi attempted to place the magical blessing on the piece, perhaps he would have better luck with the boots than with the gauntlets. He chanted the arcane words over the boots, clearing his mind and focusing his intent to make their protection even stronger.
Enchant: Thaumaturgy I, Artificing I, Shielding I, K 15 e85KjeLm (success on anything but difficult, -40mp)
Success: +10 DR.
It seemed that his magic took this time, providing at least a small improvement in the protection the boots offered. He was quite thrilled to have succeeded in his attempt this time. The Skaldi grinned a toothy grin as he sat the boots back down, a slight magical glow encompassing the boots before it faded from sight. His success with the boots led him to attempt blessing the forge for the next piece, once more chanting arcane words, but this time directing them, along with his intent, to the forge itself.
Flames of the Forge: Thaumaturgy I, Fire I, Iron Smithing I, Armor Smithing I, K 15 (Failure on anything but simple, -20mp)
Once had given it his best attempt, he looked to the human, still not quite sure if his magic had took or not, "Ssryl happy to help. Ssryl never get your name, how should Ssryl call you?"

While his original assumption of the chant being something special still lingered, when Ssryl chanted over his forge the Duke started to get somewhat curious about it. They hadn't just made that, it didn't fit the pattern. Could it be something else? There was really only one other thing people chanted for.
"Are you performing magic over the stuff here?" Curiosity bled through his voice. It would be almost perfect if he was. Magic was illegal for the PEOPLE of Cruinthe to use. Those from any of the other four kingdoms could come and go freely and practice it, and Skaldi were never considered people. As far as he knew it was law that Skaldi couldn't be anything other than slaves, and that didn't make them people to be registered for using magic. If Ssryl WAS casting magic, that meant he potentially had a magically inclined smith skaldi who could work for him.
Yeah, things were going amazingly now.
"I am the Duke Tyr Mardok. Please, call me Tyr." He almost cautioned the Skaldi to call him Duke to avoid getting in trouble, but that would have been hypocritical. He couldn't treat them like people then have them act more formally than anyone else because of who they were. If he was going to stand for them, it was all or nothing. Reluctance and fear in the face of the law was giving in. "Now then, I have two more pieces to make. I can make the belt easily enough on my own, but I would appreciate some assistance with the spear. After that if you'd just wait around a moment we can talk." The spear would be a simple enough measure to make though. Three iron for a long staff, one for a crossguard, one for a combination spearhead and sword. It was bladed on both sides but still about the same length as a regular spearhead.
Simple (30) + K (20) + Knowledges (Iron M/Wep II=30) + Forge (5) + Cruinthian (5) + Assistance (10)= 100. tuu5QiIL Success. Masterwork check. DC 40, two degrees possible.
Bladed Spear (5I): 50 Dam, Req 20 Str, 10 A, 10 K
He placed the spear with the rest of the finished gear. Weapons were always a tricky thing to produce, having help made it a lot less stressful to try. ·

The human seemed curious about Ssryls magic, Ssryl hadn't much experience with others witnessing his magic, and he was unfamiliar with Cruinthian law about magic as well. Having been a slave his entire life, he lacked education, but that didn't mean he wasn't intelligent. "Ssryl learn a little magic. Magic make weapon and armor stronger, make craft easier."
After Ssryl's inquiry as to the man's name he responded, "I am the Duke Tyr Mardok. Please, call me Tyr." Ssryl was a bit taken aback, a duke? nobility working the forge here? Treating a skaldi with respect? Nothing about the situation made much sense to Ssryl. He had figured the man for a perhaps wealthy smith, but a Duke? Ssryl did not want to be taken for a fool, but at the same time he did not wish to insult the man if he was in fact the Duke, especially with him otherwise treating Ssryl kindly.
Ssryl was not sure he was comfortable referring to the man by his first name, the sting of the many lashes he received in his youth as a result of being informal with humans, came to the surface of his mind. The man offered it though, part of Ssryl feared it was a trick, but Ssryl went with it anyways. "It is Ssryl's honour, Tyr." Ssryl winced a bit, half-expecting the man to retaliate for using his first name, but nothing happened. Tyr continued on working and asked for Ssryl's help with a weapon, help which Ssryl more than happily offered.
It was a strange weapon to Ssryl, a spear with what looked to be a dagger or small sword at the end. It appeared to be what the customer had wanted though. So Ssryl waited for Tyr to finish up his work, offering up his magic while he waited, "If Tyr wishes, Ssryl can try maybe to enchant one more piece. Magic is very draining to Ssryl, and Ssryl is already drained from gauntlets and boots."
