 A Great Performance (CST)
« Thread Started on Oct 24, 2009, 12:10am »

Black Magic. It was something that came naturally to Emarion, yet he still believed in practicing. His reason for such was because practice would only increase his natural control on magic, not hinder it. Besides, he enjoyed playing with magic and mana on his spare time. So, why not create some structured exercises that benefited him? The answer was easy: he should. Thus, he did. He composed a mental list of certain spells he would like to work on and he would certainly work on each and every one.

He stood tall and lone in a large room deep inside Helkorth Fortress. He was in an area dedicated to training new recruits, yet he was the only one present in the room. As mentioned before, it was particularly large, which was good because it would allow Emarion the freedom to move around and experiment wherever he wished. Secondly, the room provided him with some basic training assistance, such as dummy, targets and that such. In general, it was a nice room to train in, especially since he was alone.

Accordingly, first on the list of spells to increase his mastery on was Wind Cutter. Though this spell could not be manipulated in any way, it was just fun overall. He took several deep breaths as he channelled his mana all around his body, but mainly to his hands. His eyes had been closed, but now they were open and visible, but small blue sparks could be seen shooting from his eyes before dissipating quickly. In a blink of an eye, Emarion’s hands were raised and he summoned forth a large Wind Cutter that sliced through several dummies in a corner. A wide, sadistic grin was clear on his face as it usually was when he worked with magic because of its sheer enjoyment.

Within moments, he conjured several more Wind Cutters that tore through the room and sent debris flying this way and that. All around the walls, there were clear markings where his Winds had hit. In regards of the dummies, he was lucky they were cheap and easy to make or he may have been in a little bit of trouble from his superiors. Though, he did not wholly care. They were dummies; they were made to be destroyed, right?

No matter, he continued his symphony of Wind as he spun around in a circle, shooting Wind Cutters off in every direction. The mana that flowed through him was like a drug. With one taste, he wanted more and more. If diagnosed, one would see he had a terrible addiction. Nonetheless, he did not mind. It was a fun addiction that caused pain and suffering to those in his wake. So, whatever the consequences, he was not concerned. He was living in the moment of absolute bliss. He felt completely inside his element when he worked with mana and magic for his destructive and corrupt purposes. It was this feeling that drove him to pursue his dark nature and habits. Ultimately, he took pure pleasure from what he did and he would never cease. It was his very essence and he would never give it up.

Before finishing up his little practice session with the wind element, he performed one last manoeuvre. Hands held high as if he were about to conduct an orchestra, he brought his hands down sharply and released two Wind Cutters that tore around the entire room until they ended their devastating path where they started. As the debris and dust settled, Emarion bowed to an invisible audience with a wide grin upon his pale face.

Pretending to check an invisible list of spells, Emarion decided to move from wind to earth. This time, he would focus on the invoking of the limitless powers and strength of the very earth he walked on. Though he was inside, the place contained a plentiful amount of dirt and stone - enough for him to work with effectively at least. Taking his place in the centre of the room, his hands surging with mana, he spread out his fingers, palms to the ground as if he were touching it, but up in the air. Feeling for every molecule of dirt and sand and earthen material, he began to pull a small portion together. Closing his eyes, his hands moved as if they were sculpting some masterpiece. His brow began to furrow as he concentrated intensely. Mana shot from his hands and controlled every particle of dirt he was just searching for. Finally, the earth he controlled began to take shape.

First, it was a relatively flat clump of hard material. After working it and moulding it, he came upon the final shape: a lumpy, but nearly-complete spherical shape. Of course, his geometry was slightly off, but it did not matter. As long as it had the same effect, he was happy. Now that he had a solid thing to work with, he began to play around with it. Directing it all around the room, he felt like he had some string attached to his finger and it was attached to the ball of mud, and he had some sort of loose control over it as he spun it round and around the room. Finally, he ended its seemingly sporadic journey by crashing it into the ground; where the ball, consequently, returned to its prior form before his manipulation.

Taking a deep breath in, he took a moment to plan out his next feat. It surely would be an interesting one. After thinking and ponder, he believed to have the general idea down and he would work out any minor details as he went along. Still standing in the centre, he closed his eyes like he did when he was trying to conjure the mud ball. Now, he would try something harder that required much more attention. Hands flat out, again, he began to mentally sift through the earthen matter at his beck and call. Another deep breath in and out, he was ready.

He began to close his fists and as he did, all over the room, dozens and dozens of mud balls started to rise forth from the ground. His eyes were still closed though as he formed each and every one to a relatively useable shape. Once he had done so, he opened his eyes and to his luck and concentration, he saw his wonder. The room looked like a mine field; several feet off the ground, within one or two feet of each, dozens upon dozens of dirt balls hovered, waiting for further command. And, certainly, Emarion would not disappoint.

With a simple gesture, each individual ball began to spin around. Faster and faster they went as they began to form a tornado around the conductor of magic that stood in the centre of the grand room. Dust, debris, rubble and dummies began to spin around, as well. It was a beautiful scene, though it had to come to an end. Raising his hands dramatically and dropping them, each ball fell to the ground, impacting it hard. It was a good thing no one was around to see Emarion’s theatrics, or they may have questioned his sanity.

Another successful performance, without a doubt, deserves a bow, which Emarion obliged to, bending low to the ground.

With the earth portion over, it was time to advance to his next spell category: lightning. Practically giddy with excitement, Emarion rubbed his hands together with anticipation. He truly enjoyed the pure power and instability of lightning. It was uncontrollable to most men and woman, yet to some, the gifted few, it could be mastered. Emarion was one of those few and proudly so. Hence, it was time to get this show on the road!

Palms facing the ceiling, Emarion stood with good posture and a very proper demeanour. His superb conducting would be humble, this time, compared to the vast superiority of lightning. Emarion could only wish to obtain such immense and devastating power – though, in the end, Emarion would possess it all. Closing his eyes for a brief moment, he began to feel sparks in his palms. He opened his eyes and began to focus and watch the marvels of his power. Blue and yellow sparks hopped around each of his palms. Every time one died, the next grew stronger until at last, a decent sized bolt protruded from his palms. Awe was clear in his eyes as they looked upon the might of lightning, yet it was in his palm! It was he who controlled it and had mastered it. It was he who controlled every essence of it. It was he who had such a ‘shocking’ grip on one of the most powerful and rare elements in the world. Of all the elements, it was lightning that was so unpredictable and hard to produce. Fire was easy. Just light a few twigs and you got a bonfire. Ice, merely freeze some water and there is your chunk to cool down a drink or two. Lightning... Well, lightning is hard to attain because you cannot exactly reach up into a lightning cloud and grab bolt or two when you need it. No, it is nearly impossible or one without any magical ability and it takes one with excellent dominance over their magic to truly influence lightning.

Now, with two bolts of lightning in his palms, what could he do? Well, he could see how much force a bolt really had. With a simple gesture of his palm, one Bolt went flying towards a dummy. Eager for impact, Emarion watched intently. Upon collision, Emarion saw the dummy blow up entirely, leaving only the wood and various fragments of cloth. A low chuckle resounded from his throat. He held governance over lightning! With the second, he lazily threw it at a group of dummies and watched as they all blew up, like the individual one.

He nearly danced around, but like all other spells before this one, he ended with a effortless bow.

He was soon coming to an end of his practice session, however, he still had two major elements left. The second last one was ice: a solid, cold, hit-you-right-in-the-face kind of spell; a spell after Emarion’s own heart. Out of every element, this one had unlimited potential – even compared to earth. This was mainly because it was easily mouldable, durable, an easy distraction and it had the overwhelming potential to freeze anything it touched. The cold and unbiased justice of ice was intriguing. It does not judge, it is neutral, passive. Whatever you want to call it, everyone freezes in the end.

An Ice Bolt was Emarion favoured spell. It is partially why his eyes are blue, because of his cold and icy nature, as well as preference for ice. His control over it was the easiest of all three because of his extensive use of it. Today, he would try something new. He began with his usual spot in the centre of the room. He stood tall and concentrated on the space ahead of him. His eyes shone bluer than usual and his hands extended out in front of him. If one could see the path the mana in his body made, they would have seen all the mana from his body flow to his outreached hands. A few seconds later, Emarion released the mana and into the empty air before him. Beginning to form were three, head-sized Ice Bolts.

Once they were completely shaped, Emarion smirked at the ease. Now that they were prepared, he was ready to have fun. In a millisecond, he shot the forward in a drilling formation and they spiralled around and around. He began to weave them all about the room; they’re very presence and nearness to some objects froze them – which certainly amused Emarion and only egged him on. Finally suffice with the partially froze state of the room, the ice balls did one last sweep before merging into one large ice ball. Now controlling this grand ball of ice, he sent it flying into one of the remaining rows of dummies. He nearly clapped with amusement as they all were smashed to bits. Truly entertaining.

Now that he had his fill of frosty power, Emarion bowed to the invisible crowd. A wide grin upon his face as he thought of the day’s success; nonetheless, there was still one last element.

The last on his spell toy list was a very damaging spell. It was one that could even harm the caster. He would have to be more cautious with this spell because it had the potential to hurt him and it would put a lot of physical strain on him, as well. He had not fully mastered this element, nor did he think he would any time soon. This element was fire. Pure, chaotic, destructive and deadly; those were some words that could describe the wonder of untainted power.

Emarion took a very deep breath; it was so deep that he could feel his lungs expand nearly the entire capacity. This was the only spell that caused him to worry and feel apprehensive. His last encounter with this spell landed his with an extreme burn on his hand and he did not want to experience that pain again. What made it worse was that it was his own doing, not an enemy’s. Nevertheless, it was a formidable; thus he had to put some practice of it in.

Being careful to control the very amount of mana he put into the spell this time, he began to focus on the pool of mana in his hands. He started out small by creating a Fireball half its usual size. He winced slightly at the heat even the small bomb produced, but was relieved as he sent it a few feet away from him. He felt instant comfort now he was not close to the ball of burning death; so he loosened up a bit and allowed more mana slowly enlarge the already existing Fireball. He watched with delight as it gradually got bigger and bigger.

As it increased, however, he began to feel himself losing control of it. In a panic, he accidentally amplified the flow of mana and soon a mini sun was very close to Emarion. He cringed and jumped back in fear and the ball flew towards the opposite wall and exploded in a grand fury. Still shaking a bit, he was thankful for it to be gone. He hated fire, but he still got somewhat of a practice in.

He did not bow because his fire performance was not even close to worth to celebrate. Though he feared it, he needed to conquer that fear so he could ultimately become the best. On the other hand, the day was successful: he got a great couple of hours of quality practice. He walked from the centre of the room to the exit, but before he left, he looked back on his artwork. Debris, burning chunks of material, frozen items, mutilated dummies and large dents were present all around the room. He chuckled and thought, Definitely a good practice. With that, he left the building and made his way for the pub. Tonight deserved even a small celebration.

We lived our lives in our paradise, As gods we shaped the world around. No borderlines we'd stay behind, Though balance is something fragile. While we thought we were gaining, We'd turn back the tide, it still slips away. Our time has run out, our future has died, There's no more escape.
