Badness on the Plains (Epic Battle, Open)
« Thread Started on May 25, 2009, 11:35pm »

Well... you don't have to join if you REALLY don't want to. You can just watch the carnage unfold if you'd like.

Things seemed calm on the plains until General Kimmel and his party of Black Templars came across a squad of traitors. Of course, they showed the filthy traitors what they were made of and killed them, but not without losing a man whom would forever be remembered as one of the finest ever to serve Cruinthe.

"So, Traitor scum, how did you get this far into Cruinthe?"

"Heh, heh heh, wouldn't you like to know, loyalist scum?"

"If you won't tell me... what is that in your hand?"

"Your doom. Augh.. cauhgauhglahfhsaaa."

Before the Black Templar who was holding the traitor could finish him, the traitor broke a seal in his hand, and dropped in the ground, throwing up his blood all over it. With the spatter of demonically corrupted blood, the earth shook. The body of the traitor began to change. His skin became a dark red, and his armor burned. Then he exploded into a shower of blood, rending a tear between the worlds with powerful magic.

The first thing that came through the hole was a clawed hand, followed by an arm, by the rest of the infernal beast. The hole closed up behind it.

"By my bloody hand... the living shall not survive this day."

"Sweet Princess...."

"I've got it my lord!"

"No, don't!"

Before the Black Templar could get any closer, the Greater Demon whirled around, and struck him with it's battle axe. The creature was at least two stories in height. It's skin was a deep red. On it's chest was black armor trimmed with bronze. The demonic symbol for carnage was on it's chest. It's legs were not like normal feet, they were instead hooves, and it's hands were clawed. In those hands was a long handled battle axe, and a long flaming sword. It's head was that of a beasts, and it had long curved horns on either side of it's face. It had no wings, but a pair of long tails existed. They were extremely spikey.

It roared, smoke filled the air.

The templar attacked. A fine kick sent the first one flying. One templar managed to strike a blow against it's leg before being split in two by the monstrosity's sword. The creature swung it's axe down on another Templar, killing him. It raised it's axe to take out another, but found that he body was stuck to it, and began shaking the body off. Then it struck the ground again with the axe, and the body finally was no longer stuck.

The last templar blocked a blow from the sword, but barely. His own weapon was knocked several feet away, and the creature kicked him up over it's own head, watching him come down.

Then hit him with the axe, sending him flying, blood spraying the whole way.

It was just Kimmel, and the Demon now.

"Come Demon. It's time for you to meet your doom."

Kimmel Ran in at the foul demon, charging at it with his sword high. He fully expected to be hit with some sort of attack by the creature, but he wanted to get his point across that he wasn't going to run away nor back down. General Kimmel was a General dammit! He couldn't expect the lowest of his soldiers to hold a line if he himself couldn't!

The demon roared and swung at the incoming general with it's flaming sword. It was a low and wide swing, destined to cut the general in half, or at least do some serious damage to him. The battle had begun, and the demon reveled in the carnage that was about to take place.

The Demon had swung at him as was expected, Kimmel ducked under the swing, moved a few more feet, coming up near the arm of the greater demon. He raised his sword high and swung down hard. Bolts of white lightning crackling off of the weapon before it settled down into a pure glow just before it would strike the blow.

The demon cried out, and roared again. It swung back with it's damaged arm, knocking the general off his feet and sending him several feet backwards. The force of the blow was enough to do serious damage to Kimmel, this match certainly would be quite interesting to see.

The Demon turned as the general got back to his feet. The axe bore down on the esteemed veteran of war, and he was forced to leap out of the way. With a roll the General got back to his feet, and righted himself. Facing the monstrosity with no fear, only grim determination to finish the hell-beast.

"See how you run from me, Mortal? You're nothing compared to my power!"

The Greater Demon of Carnage stomped on the ground with his right hoof, sending a shockwave similar to an Earth Shaker attack at the General. With quick thinking, the General sent his own Earth Shaker attack at the monster, canceling out the one that was directed at him just in time. Large rocks had been churned up and pierced the ground between them.

"Seems like you have a tough time hitting me, hmm Demon?"

"DIE MAGGOT!"

The demon swung his flaming sword in an arc, destroying the rocks that were churned up and nearly hitting the General, whom had ducked just in time, the blade passing only an inch over his head. General Kimmel moved in just like last time, his sword glowing a brilliant white just before his blade stabbed into the thigh of the monstrosity. The Demon backed up a step, and kicked the man. Sending him a few more meters back. Smoke filled the sky as the monster roared.

Some people might wonder why I'm writing this thread, and why I'm fighting 'myself'. There's really only one answer for that kind of silly question. It's because it's......

An EPIC battle.

That's what this is. Kimmel was enjoying himself, as much as a man can enjoy himself when he's been kicked and backhanded by a demon bigger than most people's house's. He felt a little pummeled, but overall, he was a tough man, and tough men don't back down in the face of evil. They spit in it's eye, grab it by the tongue, and punch it in the throat.

The Greater Demon of Carnage was an angry one. It roared again, and continued to blot out the sky with it's smoke. As the general stood up and righted himself, the Demon spat a fireblast the size of a truck at Kimmel. The General took a knee, and raised his shield at the last second. The broad shield took the full brunt of the blast. Just as Kimmel recovered from the blast, he noticed that the demon was bearing down on him, each titanic step shook the earth, and left fire in the demon's wake. The earth cracked under the weight and power of the steps, it burned in agony.

The demon swung with it's sword to hit Kimmel in the left side. The General ducked under the swing, only for his shield to get hit by the swing of the axe. The blow sent the man flying, and left a deep gash that almost bit through the whole shield.

".... I'm too old for this.."

The general said as he got up off the ground, again. The demon closed in on him, and tried to stomp on him. But to no avail. The man leapt aside, and stabbed the monster in the leg. Fire crackled around the Demon's hooves, and it yelped in surprise. Kimmel stayed between the creature's legs for a second, then moved out of the way of the demon's sword as it jabbed it down to stab at him. More grass caught fire, more earth was churned up by the force of the blow.

Kimmel slashed at the demon's tail. It screeched, and turned around, backing away a step.

"Oh, didn't like that did you?"

"By the gods...." Achilles said under his breath, his horse kicking the ground fiercely while he reined it in place. Erron too was skittish, but less so. Scared yes, but trusting of Gunlase not to get himself into the thick of THAT. And into the thick he wouldn't. Bodies of templar were strewn across the ground, and as powerful as Gunlase is, he knew he'd be nothing compared to something that could annihilate Black Templar.

He could do something, however. Recovering from the initial shock of seeing what he was fairly certain was General Kimmel fighting a positively massive demon, probably bigger than even a Wendigo, Gun turned to his left and whacked Knicholase on the shoulder. "Shield the general, both types." As his tongue ignited behind his full plate armor. "Both of you, behind me, be ready to shield me as well Nick." Their horses did as he instructed when they directed them, and both magickal shields flowed across the several hundred foot distance to bolster the General's defenses to their maximum. A light healing spell crossed the distance after that, reaffirming the Generals health levels, even though they'd been barely touched as it was.

Gunlase's actions that had his tongue glowing were simple, he adjusted his shield on his arm and raised his trident, casting blind on the demon. Hopefully nothing backfired on him, but then that's what Nick was there for. In the back of the group, Achilles knocked an arrow, not that it would do any thing to the demon if he fired one at it.

The thousand gold piece question was, though: The FUCK were the doing there?

Hunting. Not even on assignment, they'd heard the sound of battle and had come running...galloping...what ever, only to find the sight before them. And this would be where they stayed, several hundred feet away from the demon, healing The General and sniping in what ever minor damage they could.

Hell, maybe they'd get a commondation from the General for their help.

The Greater Demon then noticed that three morons had come onto the field, and had begun loitering around him. Sensing easy prey, and magic being cast at him and around him, which was easily swatted down by the Greater Demon's basic endowments, it began to chase after the new, less dangerous foes. Of course, with his massive stride and speed compared to theirs, there wasn't much of a way they were going to escape.

First, let's talk about how he not only roared, filling the sky with more smoke which was blacker and thicker than any natural smoke, but fired a fire blast at the trio. The massive, exploding ball of fire would strike just behind their current position, with a blast radius of five meters. Enough force was generated by the blast to knock the men towards the demon if they didn't move. But there was no way they'd be escaping the blast anyway. They just weren't fast enough.

"Come back here you coward!"

After that little number, the General began chasing after the Demon, swinging at it's tail. Clipping it once. The Demon roared again, and preformed a spin attack that not only hit the general square in the side, but tore through earth, leaving fire in it's wake.

The general was definitely feeling that hit. His shoulder was cut, and so was his side. His armor had failed to protect him from that fearsome blow.

Going wide-eyed, Gun ordered them to pull back even as his hand flipped around his Trident to get it into a javelin's position. Achilles and Nick had already begun their retreat when Gun caught sight of the massive fire blast heading for him. His hand whipped down, flinging the Trident as Erron started to wheel around. The other two had gotten out of range of the blast, But Gunlase took the back lash to the chest, almost knocking him out of Erron's saddle as the horse reared and turned away from the flame, scared shitless.

Achilles then turned around in his saddle and fire two arrows at the demon's upper body, or where he thought it to be through the smoke. Gun's belt and helm already got to work recovering the reduced damage he took from the AOE of the blast as his hand reached for his hip to draw his sword. To back this up and cover their retreat, he glanced over his shoulder and fired three doubled bolts through the smoke. Hopefully the demon would be too worried about its tails and the General to deal with the magick. That of course wasn't assuming the blockage was automatic....

His flaming sword drawn, Gun's left hand gripped his claws from his thigh as Erron and the other two sprinted away. Gunlase couldn't see where his Trident had landed, however. Even if they simply provided distraction, as long as they didn't get hit directly by the demon, they ought to survive.

"Ha ha ha."

Gunlase's three doubled bolts would find that they wouldn't be getting too far. The slammed into a magical barrier two feet away from him, and then were reflected back at him. The arrows that were shot at it did negligible damage, it didn't even feel them. It seemed that the Greater Demon was keen on killing just about everything it came across. Including these three warriors.

"Idiots, they're just going to end up leading it to a town."

The Greater Demon of Carnage followed after the trio, running at top speed, probably clocking close to forty miles per hour. It was a big boy, and it was a demon. With it's speed and long legs, it could more than keep up with the horses. In fact, it was just trailing behind them by a little bit. The monstrosity swung it's battle axe at the trio. It carved a deep gash and left a burning scar behind in the ground, just missing the group.

"Run cowards!"

Then it swung it's sword, aiming to take them out with just one slash.

General Kimmel was far behind by now. Practically out of the battle in his own right. But he did stumble upon the smoking and charred trident. It's water was starting to clean the smoke off of it, but it would need to be repaired, or at least checked for damage.

Nick and Achilles were already quite far ahead of Gun and the demon. Gun had turned after having chucked his trident which was now cracked and damaged over by the general. It's magick was revealing itself from each crack in the shaft, where normally the weapon only reacted when it was held by someone. The mana flowing beneath their skin giving it reason to unleash its power to the world. Same was to be said of Gunlase's sword, which was now drawn and burning with all terrible haste. Reacting to Gun's emotions as he trailed behind his subordinates.

All three horses were sprinting at the utmost of their ability. At over thirty miles an hour, they were almost as fast as the demon with their owners on their backs, so it took a short while for the demon to catch up to Erron and Gunlase, tearing the earth asunder. During which time, the General hopefully would have had time to recover and give chase. Several bits of dirt and rock pelted Gun on the back, forcing him to turn and lash his sword out, his mana racing through his body.

With a guttural roar, a {Wind Tunnel} whirled around the blade, flickering the acrid green flames like a bonfire as the demons own sword lashed toward Gun. It's sword wasn't nearly long enough to reach Nick and Achilles some way's ahead, but crashed into Gun's blade, rather than the Arcane Swordsman's head.

The magick of the blade, both natural and applied gave it increased fortitude as the whirlwind shot at the demons face, but the one edge of the longsword cracked and gouged from the massive demonic sword as Gunlase was lifted cleanly out of Erron's saddle, and hurled over a hundred feet, where he crashed into the ground, hard. Blood spurted from his mouth in his face mask even as Erron's speed increased and the horse, not knowing that Gun was missing from its back, began to pull away from the demon, and catch up to the others. With any luck, some debris from the whirlwind would catch in the demons eye, forcing it to slow.

Groaning flat on his back, Gun couldn't feel his right arm, nor much of the rest of his body. The flames on his sword flickered dully now, and the man was on the bridge of consciousness. He probably had several broken ribs, not to mention his arm. It was all he could do to survive as his belt and helmet began working, glowing with their own intensity.

Either way, Gun was going to be out of the battle for some time, and Nick and Achilles were running for their lives, hopefully maintaining their distance from the Demon. They were, after all, much lighter than Gun in his armor.

"Pest."

The Greater Demon didn't even feel the blow of the wind tunnel, and moved on, continuing to chase those two soldiers that were running away on horse back. It would catch up to them soon, and then it would tear them apart. Perhaps after that the Greater Demon would head back and claim the general's head, or maybe it would proceed onward to destroy as much as it could.

To keep things interesting though, the demon fired yet another fire blast at the running duo, probably taking one out. The fire blast arched out of the monstrosity's maw, and collided with the ground in front of Achilles' mount. An explosion followed.

"Ha ha ha ha."

Meanwhile....

"Damn those idiots. Damn this horse."

The general had gathered his own horse and proceeded to chase after the Greater Demon, whom the trio of idiots had lead away from him, stupidly. The general thought it would have been better if they hadn't gotten involved, and if they had just gone to the nearest base and report the occurance. But no, they just had to attack it. Didn't they know that demons had really short attention spans? You can't attack one and not expect it to come after you, even if it's got something else on it's tail.

General Kimmel will catch up with the demon next turn.

The two of them didn't even know the blast had been fired until they saw it blow over their heads. Achilles just started to react, standing up slightly in his saddle before the blast struck the ground in front of his horse, picking him up out of the saddle, and tripping up his horse. Flying back, his bow blew out of his hands and he flew back past Nick as the White Mage's horse kept up it's mad dash.

A sense of weightlessness slowed down time as the smoke and flame rumbled around the Rogue. His reverie was stopped suddenly, not by the ground, but by a quick jerk. The white haired man blinked and looked up to see Nick holding onto his upper sleeve with a pained expression on his face. "Hurry the fuck up and get on!" Achilles was surprised further, and was quite sure he was dead even as his left hand gripped the front of the saddle and he kicked at the fast moving ground to launch himself half assedly into the saddle behind Nick.

...

....

"Holy shit! ...We're so fucked!" He said, realizing he wasn't dead, and he'd been blown off his horse. A horse which had taken off in a whole other direction away from the demon. Problem being, with both of their weights now on one horse, they were weighed down as much as Gun was, the demon would be able to catch up to them.

Speaking of horses, Erron had long since diverted course, realizing Gun wasn't on its back and had started back looking for Gunlase.

Two miles away and galloping at full speed, a unit of Black Templar from the 4th Mage Company headed toward Achilles, Knicholase, and the Greater Demon of Carnage. Despite the bumbling of the three young Knights, another had reported the demonic sighting. A civilian had spotted the action and had made a mad-dash to a local military outpost where This particular Templar Unit of seven, commanded by the Head-Mage of the 4th Mage Company, Jacob Baneguard.

The group consisted of two white mages, three black mages, and two necromancers. One of which being the commander covered in bone armor, the other being a Silver Knight, new to the Templar. They would arrive soon to provide support to provide support to the men who were currently unknown. The report from the citizen included the following:

'It's a &#$%&!@ Demon! Everybody RUN!!'

Naturally, Jacob and the others didn't know of the General, nor the Black Templar unit, nor of the three lower ranking officers. Their only inkling as to where the demon might have been having been the direction from which the man had run. From this point, Jacob had sent messengers to several local outposts calling for reinforcements, and set out to deal with the Demonic Scourge before it managed to reach a populated area.

Reinforcements to arrive next round.

"RUN MORTALS! RUN!"

The Greater Demon of Carnage shouted as it started to catch up to them. It wasn't genuinely surprised that the other human had managed to survive the blast, it didn't aim right for the horse, just a little ahead of it. The Greater Demon had planned on blowing the mortal off the horse, then finding the body, and crushing the man under his hoof before proceeding to find the third mortal, and kill him too.

This time however, it was biding it's time before it could attack them. Wanting to hit the two of them dead on so that it may deliver a killing blow on the first try.

While the Demon was taking it's time, chasing them down, General Kimmel was starting to catch up with it. Hoping that the moron triplets hadn't lead it to a town, and that maybe, just maybe reinforcements would be en route. But that was unlikely, considering that he hadn't sent for any.

"Definitely too old for this."

We lived our lives in our paradise, As gods we shaped the world around. No borderlines we'd stay behind, Though balance is something fragile. While we thought we were gaining, We'd turn back the tide, it still slips away. Our time has run out, our future has died, There's no more escape.

Gun groaned to himself, running his legs rather uselessly on the ground as he tried to push himself into a sitting position. A loud shout emanated from him as his right forearm snapped back into place as his fist tightened around his sword for the first time in several minutes. The flames on the blade roared for a moment before returning to their flickering state. Gun was still only half conscious, not to mention, the blade had been damaged as it never had in the past. The weapons of this world almost seemed to have a life of their own. Especially the magickal ones. At least that's how Gun felt. He hated the fact that he'd let his sword get damaged, he'd have to be a bit more careful from now on.

But the fucking Demon blocked magick. How the fuck did that happen? Had it blocked Nicks white magick too? His mind was too disorganized to form any theories, but he was slowly recovering, his regen gems filling his body with power, but that power quickly culminated in his right forearm and back, attempting to restore the bones, muscles, and joints that had been screwed by the demon and the impact with the ground.

A whinny in the distance revealed Erron. Gun turned his head a bit to look at the horse, but his sight was still blurry, the dull and relatively featureless sky not revealing this fact to the Arcane Swordsman.

As for the others...

...

Well...

"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! FUCK!! Get this damn horse moving!"

"Stop FUCKING cursing in my EAR!! He's going as fast as he can! And look, there's soldier headed this way!" Nick could see the small unit of reinforcements in the distance. If three people had gotten its attention from the General, double that number would sure as shit get it to leave them alone.

...Well...That's what they hoped any way. Fuckin' Demons.

As the unit rode, a deep and gruff voice echoed from beneath the Grim War Bone Visage. "Smithers, Donaldson," The Clerics of the unit. "For The Gods and For Cruinthe, Circumnavigate the enemy and attend to any still alive in it's wake! Plennes, with them!" Plennes was the other Necromancer. A universal 'Aye, sir!' Roared from the three as they broke off from the unit and rounded about to the right. "Templar! DESTROY THIS FILTH!" The roar echoed from the tall man on the pale horse as the dark eyes of the Bone Visage glowed a deathly blue, and the Baneblade Scythe of Necromancy was drawn from behind The Willing Monster.

A battle cry of 'As you command!' sounded from all of the other men in heavy armor as they drew their respective weapons. Maces, Axes, Staves, and Swords alike. The magic visible in Baneguard's eyes cast a massive Bone Wall just behind the horse with the two young knights aboard. Graves of fallen allies and traitors alike rose from the ground and came together to form a fifteen foot tall, five foot thick, and twenty foot long barricade against the greater demon which could clearly be seen from the vantage point of the group of Black Templar.

A meteor a piece from the three Black Mages trailing behind Jacob dropped from the sky behind the wall, aiming for the Greater Demons head and back, the anti-magic endowments of the demon unknown to knights.

Welcome
Welcome to Cruinthe War, a Dark Medieval Fantasy RPG. The game is set in a kingdom on the brink of destruction by untold horrors, monsters made from the stuff of nightmares, and heretical creations from beyond the grave. A legion of bloodthirsty demons, vampires, and various undead threaten to overrun the kingdom of Cruinthe at any given moment. Only the brave defenders of Cruinthe stand in their way, fighting the bitter and bloody battle to their last breaths.

Date and Season
The year is 1053, the month is Ausoris, the season of Summer. Summer in Cruinthe is a season that is hot and humid. Unlike the dry season to come, the air is thick with evaporating water that was left over from the rainy season. Summer is the month where magical creatures are most active, due to random concentrations of magic in the air. It will rain suddenly, the temperatures can get up to one hundred and ten degrees, and the sun shines brightly for many days straight. Happy Hunting Cruinthe!
